Features and prices
During its history, the bike has undergone one major restyling generation change. Which one do you like best?
Suzuki GSX 600 Katana – until 1997.
Suzuki GSX 600 Katana - since 1998.
In addition, individual suspension and chassis components were changed several times. Despite the fact that the bike is over 30 years , the model is still in demand. At the same time, the price for used motorcycles in the Russian Federation is quite affordable and starts from 60 thousand rubles .

Hello motorcycle brothers and sisters, as well as all those who are partial to motorcycles. I want to share my impressions about Brosik. I skated on my season - I got a little 3600. Before that, under me there were only Soviet models of the motorcycle industry, such as Minsk, Voskhod. I traveled a little on Yavka. But a Japanese is a Japanese. There can be no comparisons here. Over the entire period of operation, Bros has never let me down. Started in any weather without problems. Doesn't consume oil, consumption is from 3.5 - 4.5 per hundred square meters. If you drive well (for 150) then 5.5 liters. In the city it is simply ideal - narrow, nimble with excellent acceleration dynamics from low revs. Lightweight, which is important for lightweight guys and girls. They can handle it without stress. For me, it’s generally like a bicycle) Pleasant vibration, at speeds above 4500 it feels like there’s a jackhammer under you, but it didn’t bother me. But what a sound this song is. Still, the V-twin is power and roar. Even the deaf can hear this sound in traffic jams, between cars) Gears shift without problems, neutral is caught well. The track is not good for him. After 130 - 140 it starts to blow away (you have to lie down on the tank, but this doesn’t help much and is inconvenient), the flow from the trucks also makes itself felt, potholes, pits and other irregularities are perceived very poorly by Bros. Therefore, it is better not to drive on a bad road above 90. Mostly I traveled alone. Sometimes there was a second number in the back, but... Throwing 650 didn’t really strain even with two (although the difference is certainly felt), but the main disadvantage is that it becomes very cramped (especially for the passenger) and it wasn’t very comfortable for me. Drive in this position for over 50 km. It’s very stressful and dreary; long-distance travel together is out of the question. There are legends about the reliability of Brosov - I confirm it. I got into such downpours with it that the cars flooded and they stalled, but I drove without any problems. Everyone remembers the summer of 2010 - it was + 30 and above, the city stood still, the cars were boiling. I'll give it a whirl))) There wasn't even a hint of heat in the engine) In general, for the radiator fan to work on it, when you're just standing in the heat, you have to wait 15 - 20 minutes, and this is with the engine warm, and at the same time rev it up a little , and if you move at least 40, then you won’t hear the sound of the fan at all)) But.. I want something bigger and bigger, both in cubic capacity and in volume. So I decided to take a liter, sports class - tourist. It’s sad, but I’ll be parting with Brosik. I recommend it as a first motorcycle, for trips in the city, and for those who can’t go further than to the country (even with a passenger).

Since the motorcycle was primarily positioned as a tourist, they did not reinvent the engine. The air-cooled inline-four from the GSX-R 750 was taken as the basis
It was redone, reconfigured, and reduced in volume. The result of all operations was a fairly friendly, high-torque, and simple motor.
The Katana engine, which has four valves per cylinder, is capable of producing 80 l/s and 55. Not so much for a sports tourist, but not little either - the figure is rather average.
The solution turned out to be so successful that later this engine, without significant modifications, received the Bandit 600 (Suzuki GSF 600 Bandit).
Transmission and clutch
In the style of the tourist canons, the bike receives a 6-speed gearbox.
Users say that it shifts clearly and there are no problems finding the right gear. “Everything works so well that my left leg thinks about switching more often than I do.”
The main drive is standard - chain .
Brakes
Front brakes.
Rear brakes.
There are conflicting opinions about the braking system . Some owners notice that they can only use the front brake, others write that the front brakes are weak and to stop safely, you also need to use the rear one .
Disc hydraulics are installed on both axles, in both cases there is a 2-piston .
The diameter of the rotors is 290/240 (front/rear) mm. During restyling, the size of the rear disc decreased by 10 mm .
Installation of additional systems is not provided.
Review of Yamaha FZ1-SA (2009)
Good day everyone!
I have owned a Phaser since May 2009. Bought new with ABS. Now the mileage is 12,000 km. Additionally, I installed arches with sliders.
I was choosing between the classics Honda CBF 1000 and Yamaha FZ1-S. I bought it for traveling around the city, to and from work. I can’t afford something smaller, because... I weigh 120 kg and height 192 cm. I couldn’t imagine a chopper around the city in the aisles. The sport-tourist is heavy and not the best option for the city. At first I was leaning towards the CBF 1000, but after studying the characteristics the choice fell on the FZ1-S.
Aluminum frame, 150 hp power, inverted fork, more aggressive design and little things. At the same cost when equipped with ABS.
Comfortable seating position for city trips. The tank is 18 liters, enough for 200-250 km in the city. With the low fuel indicator blinking, you can drive at least another 15 km. The odometer countdown in kilometers begins.
Speedometer and odometer (two odometers) are electronic. Pointer tachometer with cut-off at 12 thousand revolutions. The cutoff is triggered by dropping the speed somewhere to 11 thousand revolutions. The panel displays fuel level, engine temperature, air filter temperature, clock, direction indicators, neutral, ABS, high beam. There are additional adjustments in the submenu.
A fairly smooth increase in speed up to 5-6 thousand revolutions. After 6 thousand revolutions, the acceleration dynamics increase significantly and 150 hp are already felt. During operation, there was a lack of dynamics from the very start to 5 thousand revolutions, I decided to change the drive sprocket to 16 teeth (standard drive 17, driven 45) to increase dynamics, but of course, lose maximum speed. The engine is quite noisy, there is a lot of extraneous noise.
The box works clearly, but with little effort.
The brakes are powerful enough, quite enough for aggressive driving. ABS works in the most extreme cases and intervenes on the verge of blocking, while working on the principle of an automobile. ABS is not combined, separately front and separately rear. Reinforced hoses.
The suspension works well, there were no breakdowns, but I still decided to tighten it up in the coming season, make it stiffer, I’m just getting used to it. The suspension front and rear is fully adjustable. You can pinch it if you want.
In addition to the side step, there is also a central one, which is convenient for cleaning and lubricating the chain.
The wind protection works well up to 180 km/h, then I just lie down on the tank. If desired, you can install the glass higher.
You can fold the mirrors by hand if you can’t squeeze through somewhere. The mirrors do not shake when moving.
The muffler really muffles the sound, so it was installed in forward flow to at least somehow be noticeable to other road users.
Both headlights work for low and high beam. H4 lamps. They turn on automatically when the engine starts. There is enough lighting.
It comes with a Yuasa gel battery, which lasted me for a season. During storage, it should not be allowed to discharge below 7-9 volts, because then he does not take on more of these values. I changed it, the battery is expensive.
The standard Danlop tires are quite hard, but they were enough for 11,000 km. True, lately I have often driven with number two, the tires could have lasted longer that way. Front cylinder 120/70, R17, rear 190/50, R17.
The tax when accounting in Moscow turns out to be quite high - 7,500 rubles.
Driving performance
The maximum speed indicated in the documentation is 210 km/h . The owners say that it is possible to dial it up, the acceleration is confident, but the motorcycle gains speed above 190 km/h extremely reluctantly.
Dynamic performance (acceleration and cruise)
- Comfortable cruiser - 130-150 km/h .
- Acceleration from zero to 100 km in 4.2 seconds .
According to users, these are excellent indicators for a tourist.
Fuel consumption
Consumption, according to the manufacturer’s documentation, is 5.4 liters per 100 km . Users note:
- on the highway 5 l ,
- in the city 7-8 l .
It all depends on your driving style. Provided that the tank is as much as 20 liters , the average distance at one gas station is quite impressive - around 400 km .
Review of Suzuki Katana (2002)
Well, guys, I’ll tell you about this unit, which gave me a lot of sensations)) And so, I got this unit in excellent condition, as they say, I sat down and drove off. Before that I rode a VFR400R, I realized that I wanted something more powerful, more comfortable and more beautiful. Of course, the riding position on the bike is great, especially for tall people (I’m 196 cm), but it will also be comfortable for people of average height, as well as for a passenger. Your back doesn’t get stiff when riding for a long time, the wind protection on the motorcycle is quite good, at cruising 140-160, it doesn’t tear your head off, and in cool weather it allows you not to freeze (if the grips are heated)))
Externally, the motorcycle looks quite attractive. In my opinion, the design is quite modern, and it looks more attractive than the Honda F3 (I have nothing against this motorcycle and my opinion is personal) or other motorcycles in these price ranges, so for a katana in good condition 1998-2004 years old with low mileage of 22 thousand (without mileage in the Russian Federation) with pre-sale preparation they usually ask for 130-170 thousand. In my opinion, it is difficult to find an alternative for that kind of money. Well, with the acquisition of me!!! )) Of course, it was scary to change from 400 to 750, but the motorcycle turned out to be surprisingly understandable, not very aggressive, with locomotive traction (I somehow forgot and started off from 3 without any problems).
So there are 50 km ahead along the highway, the best thing is to get used to the bike) Well, after sports, the gears are of course a bit short, but it picks up speed very well, although it is inferior to the same F3, after 120, but does not lose traction in the entire range, up to 170 it picks up well, but then the dynamics drop, and after 200 it becomes sad, but it goes to 270 (according to the speedometer), it was not possible to accelerate further, and the road situation did not allow it.. Getting a motorcycle stuck is a very difficult task, so you can unscrew the throttle to full without fear of tipping over.. The brakes, of course, were disappointing with their sluggishness, especially after sports, but the rear ones, on the contrary, are too sensitive and with a slight pinch the wheel locks tightly (I almost flew off because of such a miscalculation). The sluggishness of the brakes is not eliminated even by replacing the pads with Bremb ones, you have to put up with it.
The comfortable speed on it is 120-140, it feels good on the highway, the oil cooling system successfully copes with the task on the highway, but it doesn’t feel very good in the city, and with our temperature over 40 and traffic jams it becomes difficult for it, the engine begins to adjust, but never overheated (although he told me about his ardent love, mercilessly frying his feet). But on the other hand, there are no problems with replacing antifreeze and other “pleasant” little things. But if the oil leaks (thank God it didn’t affect me), then nothing good will happen, and you can shut down the engine. True, for this you need to underfill the oil, keep it at a minimum and the hole must be large, and the motorcyclist must be blind, etc.)) In the city, of course, it is not very comfortable, the motorcycle is quite wide, but it wedges between cars without any problems. The mirrors pleased me; I could see everything and everyone, not just my shoulders.
Well, here we are at home. LeoVinch installed the original exhaust, the sound became simply fabulous, the need for a signal disappeared - a menacing roar and you are immediately visible and audible. Well, Bonusov won the competition as the loudest bike of 2013) Since we had to ride often and in very different weather, and our Kuban climate loves surprises, so a temperature drop from +20 during the day to 6 with the wind in the evening is not uncommon, I installed heating, the handles were short and, in order to at least slightly increase the information content of the brakes, I installed fittings on both wheels, then there was a feedback signal. And the daily trips began.
The engine pleases with its unpretentiousness and reliability; if you change the oil on time, then it is probably impossible to kill it. Excellent traction from the bottom and throughout the entire range, you don’t feel the passenger behind your back. The suspension after sports is quite soft, but in moderation. Gasoline consumption averages 6.5-9 liters depending on driving style. In my opinion, the bike is suitable for lovers of not too aggressive riding, for beginners (in replacement of zizers and other rubbish from the 90s, which in normal condition can be found like visiting Narnia) for more than one season and as a fairly good tourist (budget option). Right now I’ll change by a kilogram, but the motorcycle is definitely good, if only it had better brakes and it wouldn’t be priced in its segment.
Modifications
The developers did not get carried away with modifications of the model; they limited themselves to the fact that after the change of generation, the dimensions of the motorcycle changed in all respects.
and competitors
Yamaha FZR 600.
Honda CBR600F.
The model did not arouse interest among competitors either. The first to introduce an equivalent replacement was Kawasaki, offering its GPX 600 .
Noticing his gesture, other Japanese also introduced sports:
- Yamaha has fielded the FZR 600;
- Honda - CBR600F (first generation).
Review of the Honda CBF 600 motorcycle
An excellent motorcycle for everyday trips around the city and long-distance trips. One of the advantages I saw in my motorcycle was the presence of 3 panniers when fully loaded + the motorcycle passenger behaves confidently and does not feel overloaded. The presence of ABS definitely made me happy when braking on our bad roads, the next bike will be bought only with ABS. The behavior of the motorcycle on the road is confident, the suspension absorbs road unevenness normally, the light is good. The wind protection showed excellent performance when the tuning glass was fully raised. With my height of 186 cm and the saddle raised all the way, the seating position is very comfortable. 300 km with a passenger without stopping is not a problem at all. Acceleration dynamics are good, comparable to the dynamics of a well-tuned 400, but with one body on board, with a pushover, the 400 is immediately inferior, while the SBF pulls confidently throughout the entire rev range, both with two and with one rider. My consumption usually turned out to be 6-6.5 liters. per 100 km. 92 gasoline, 95 engine is certainly faster, but with the free 92, I naturally drove the free one. Of the minuses, the motorcycle wobbles when leaning heavily in turns, which seems to me to be due to the soft fork. The exhaust pipes are located low, I hit them a couple of times when crossing rutted roads and running over little hunchbacked police officers. Well, if this can be called a minus or not, the moto is completely uncontrollable on a dirt road, every weekend I went to the village and there I couldn’t do without falling into the mud))). In terms of starting the engine on cold autumn mornings, +2-3 degrees, it became capricious a couple of times and did not start, the reason is still not clear to me, everything seems to be normal, but something is not to its liking. Well, this is probably just an expression of a request for wintering until the next season.
Motorcycle '04, from England. The holding period is six months. Bought with about 30 thousand mileage. The motorcycle was chosen for tourism. I chose it because it was the only one with three luggage cases included and a central stand. I can’t say anything bad at all; on the contrary, I’m singing an ode! In six months I traveled 11 countries and 20 thousand km. Sometimes for days in the rain or sleet - not a single breakdown!
For tourism, I think it’s an ideal car. In Turkey, gasoline costs 2 euros/liter, I saved as much as I could and reached 4.6 liters/100 km. So, the usual consumption up to speed 120 is 5-5.5 liters. 140-160= 6.5 liters.
It was used quite harshly - I went on a trip on November 1, when snow fell in Moscow, a good half of the adventures took place in near-zero temperatures. At first it started badly in the morning - it turned out that the seller had installed a battery from a scooter. After the replacement, it started up to -5 without problems, but you need to conjure the choke.
When turning, I lie down (again, for a tourist) quite low, my boots are worn out. This is fully loaded: three panniers and an “occupier’s bag” in the back seat, the total weight without me is about 300 kg. Two seating options - up to 100-120 I ride upright, then I move my butt back and lie down on the tank, up to 200 km/h without problems.
After the purchase, I immediately changed all the consumables and did a deep maintenance, so to speak. Not a single breakdown during the entire period of ownership. Comfort, convenience and ergonomics at the highest level. The engine on this model is derated (from the CBR of previous years of production), therefore it is durable and not power-hungry, and the oil level does not drop at all between changes. I got the carburetor version, although from next year there will be an injection version, it would be better.
The heated OXFORD handles are worn out, they break all the time, but they don’t work well with the motorcycle, they were installed as an option by the previous owner. Finally, on the road, I unscrewed it and closed it directly, turning it off by pulling out the fuse. I installed a very useful cigarette lighter, I charge everything in the world.
No special driving skills required. On the first day of purchase (I had not ridden a motorcycle at all before) I drove 300 km, including through a big city in the rain and hail.
It’s impossible to drive without hands, the steering wheel is wobbling, I probably need a damper, but I get by just fine. Willie, stoppie on this motorcycle (they say) is not even worth trying, so I don’t try.
I consider it mandatory to install arches or sliders: when I fell, I broke my leg in two places and other such joys as dislocations of both legs and a cranial injury (a man in Tbilisi stepped under the wheels). The plastic is strong, scratches, but does not break. If the brake/clutch handles and footrests broke in a fall, they are welded with argon.
I think the motorcycle is very beautiful, the appearance is muscular, the sharp muzzle makes it aggressive.
The dynamics are smooth, it’s enough for my eyes, but the transmissions are short. Sometimes you want to leave only the first and sixth. Excellent light. Clear gear shifting (this is a Honda). The seat is comfortable and there is no discomfort in the saddle all day. Purely subjectively, I didn’t like the brakes very much.
On a tank (18 liters) I drive 200 miles before the light turns on. I’m reluctant to go on a country road or into the mountains, you have to understand that the motorcycle is heavy, and if there is no support under your feet and the bike starts to fall, you can’t stop it, this is one and two – low ground clearance.
Cruising speed with load 120-160. You can do more, but I don’t like to strain my attention on the road, I look around. The rear passenger is as comfortable as in a chair. But he sits noticeably higher and gets a lot of wind and bugs on his helmet.
I recommend it with pleasure as the most reliable and very suitable motorcycle for touring for little money.
A motorcycle with a classic seating position is irreplaceable for lovers of motorcycle touring and everyday riding; it is very suitable for beginner motorcyclists!!! The pilot's seat is height adjustable in 3 positions i.e. you can adjust it to your height. The ABS system also works perfectly in accordance with the motorcycle, saving me more than once at high speeds during extreme braking. In general, judge for yourself! I give this motorcycle a solid A!
I admit that initially I wanted a chopper. There was a sin
