This diagram was scanned from an old (born in 1986) instruction manual for the IZH PLANET 4 motorcycle. Having looked at the colorful diagrams for Izh Planet5 and other motorcycles, I decided to “tune” (in the Paint.net graphic editor) the diagram of my native IZHP4K. NOTE. On the IZHP4K motorcycle, the rear light of the sidecar is connected by connecting the green and red wires from the rear light of the motorcycle (shown with a dotted line in the diagram). The sidecar turn signal is connected to replace the right rear turn signal of the motorcycle. The right front turn signal must be turned off.

While maintaining much of the continuity with previous models, the IZH Planet 4 motorcycle featured new design changes. And first of all, this is 12 volt equipment, which previously appeared on two-cylinder Jupiter models.

New items also include improved appearance, European lighting technology and a new ignition switch.

Features of electrical equipment

The wiring diagram of IZH Planet 4 is almost completely copied from the Jupiter model that was the first to appear on the factory assembly line.

The only differences are that:

  1. The Planet family has one working cylinder, and accordingly the ignition system is designed to ensure its operation;
  2. The IZ Jupiter family, unlike the Planet, has 2 working cylinders; accordingly, the wiring diagram has additional repeating elements.

For reference: the possibility of operating a motorcycle with a trailed sidecar is also taken into account. The wiring diagram on IZH Planet 4 has a connector for connecting the right turn signal repeater and side lights.

Headlight

IZH Planet 4 is equipped with more advanced lighting devices:

Contactless ignition system

The motorcycle used a new contactless ignition system, the operating principle of which was based on the following operating algorithm:

The electrical wiring of the IZH Planet 4 motorcycle, due to the peculiarity of the contactless ignition system, has differences in the layout of the main components:

In addition, the use of a 12-volt circuit led to the division of the ignition system into three electrical circuits that differ in voltage levels:

  1. A high-voltage circuit consisting of an ignition coil, a spark plug, a spark plug tip and a high-voltage wire;
  2. Storage capacitor charging circuit, consisting of a charging winding, connecting wires with plug connectors, BCS and the primary winding of the ignition coil;
  3. The sensor circuit, consisting of its winding, connecting wires and plug connectors.

Generator IZH Planet 4

A more advanced generator began to be installed on the new model of the Izhevsk Motor Plant, capable of serving the increased needs of the electrical equipment system, in contrast to the wiring diagram of the IZH Planet 3.

Among the design features it is worth highlighting:

  1. Eight coils placed in the stator slots;
  2. Serial connection diagram;
  3. Coating of coil windings with insulating varnish;
  4. Original fastening to the stator, made using washers and bent petals.

For reference: The rotor is made in a traditional manner, has the design of an eight-pole magnet placed in a special magnetic alloy. Installed on the cone of the right axle and secured with a segment key and an M7 bolt. The generator stator is located under the cover on the right side of the engine and is secured with three bolts.

To identify faults with your own hands, you need an ohmmeter or a universal tester, which can be used to measure the resistance of the windings:

  1. If the values ​​of the measured resistances differ significantly, it is necessary to inspect the generator stator to detect broken winding leads;
  2. The reason for unstable operation may also be their short circuit. If possible, identified faults are eliminated by soldering.

Engine - disassembly and assembly

Complete disassembly of the engine is necessary if serious damage to the connecting rod, crankshaft and its bearings is noticeable. This happens, for example, when the engine jams, or general severe wear of parts (rumble, hum during operation). The engine has to be completely disassembled ("halved") also in case of wear of the left crankshaft oil seal (drop in power, difficult starting, increased smoking due to oil leaking into the crank chamber from the gearbox).

Disassembly

1. Remove the cylinder and piston from the engine (see p. 44).

2. Drain the oil and remove the power unit from the motorcycle (see pages 25, 42).

3. Having removed the left crankcase cover, remove the motor transmission, clutch and trigger mechanism (see pages 69, 72, 77).

4. Remove the right crankcase cover. Here you should remove the generator along with the right crankshaft oil seal (see page 50).

5. Remove the main drive drive sprocket (see p. 80).

6. We disassemble, as far as possible, the gearbox (see p. 81).

7. On the right side, use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws connecting the crankcase halves and unscrew the nuts of the two bolts.

8. Using a punch, we knock out two installation sleeves to half their length.

9. Apply light blows with a mallet to the plane of the connector of the crankcase halves and, using a mounting spatula, (putting it into the grooves of the front and rear of the engine), separate the halves.

Attention!

Do not push the crankcase halves apart with a screwdriver inserted into the connector. This will lead to damage to the joint planes and leakage of the crankcase.

10. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the screws securing the locking plate of the gearbox bearings.

11. Remove the plate.

12. Remove the adjusting rings-washers, writing down their number and location.

13. Remove the left half of the crankcase from the crankshaft, tapping it with a mallet if necessary.

Attention!

Be careful, the aluminum alloy of the crankcase is quite fragile.

14. Using light blows on the outer ring, knock out both ball bearings of the gearbox shafts.

15. We knock out the rolling pins that guide the gearshift forks from the crankcase.

16. Using pliers or pliers, remove the outer retaining ring of the crankshaft ball bearing.

17. Remove the adjusting washer(s).

18. Use a soft metal drift from the side of the crank chamber (through the oil seal hole) to knock out the ball bearing.

19. Use pliers to remove the inner retaining ring.

20. Take out the split spacer ring.

21. Select suitable mandrels for pressing out the left crankshaft oil seal.

22. Through them, with light blows, knock out the oil seal along with the figured washer and the main bearing ring towards the crank chamber. We remember which side of the oil seal was facing the crank chamber.

Similarly, we press out the outer race of the right main bearing.

23. If the crankshaft main bearings need to be replaced, remove them with careful blows of a chisel or a suitable puller.

Assembly

1. We wash all parts in kerosene or white spirit and inspect them.

There should be no cracks on the housing parts, no signs of scuffing in the bearing seats or broken threads.

Attention! The right and left halves of the crankcase can only be replaced as a set.

2. Clean the mating surfaces of the crankcase from any remaining sealant and gaskets.

3. Polish the gearshift forks to a mirror finish.

4. Using a scraper and sandpaper, remove burrs and other production roughness from the crankcase halves. After this, we additionally wash the body parts with water and detergent.

Attention!

Repair of the crankshaft is possible only in a specialized workshop.

5. Fill the left oil seal with grease and install it together with the bearing ring, split spacer ring and shaped washer in the left half of the crankcase.

6. Install the internal retaining ring.

7. Liberally coat the main bearing rollers with grease so that they do not protrude from the cage.

8. Having cut it out of a plastic bottle, roll it up and install the mandrel for the left oil seal.

9. Place the crankshaft with the left end up on the supports.

Rocking slightly, carefully place the left half of the crankcase onto the crankshaft. The crankcase connector should be in the plane of symmetry of the connecting rod.

10. Take out the mandrel.

11. Install the lubricated ball bearing on the shaft.

Using a 19 mm tool head, we press it in until it stops.

12. Install spacers and retaining ring.

13. Lubricate the connecting rod bearing with 4-6 drops of engine oil.

14. Check the ease of rotation of the crankshaft.

15. Further assembly of the engine is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. At the same time, we apply a heat-resistant (not lower than 200 ° C) sealant to the grease-free planes of the crankcase connector and the threads of the bolts. However, first we assemble the engine without sealant to make sure that the crankshaft and other parts rotate freely. All bearings, their seats and gears must be lubricated.

The sealant should be applied in a thin bead without breaks.

16. When connecting the crankcase halves, carefully tap the parts with a mallet.

It is enough to cover the paronite gaskets with a layer of grease.

Motorcycles IZH 3, 4, 5 and 6 are equipped with 12-volt electrical equipment. The wiring of IZH Planet 3 and 5 consists of standard 12-volt incandescent lamps, a set of instruments and switches.

The electrical wiring is single-wire, there is no negative wire, its role is played by the bike frame. The wiring diagram for IZ Planet 4 is similar to the electrical diagram for Planet 5.

The electrical circuit includes the following main components:

  • generator;
  • turns and side lighting;
  • Headlight;
  • contactless ignition system.

The power source on both IZh 5 and 6 motorcycles is a battery and a 3-phase alternating current generator. In the generator, alternating current from the windings is supplied to the rectifier and converted into direct current. Power is supplied to all consumers through the ignition switch (video author: altevaa TV).

The head light circuit of the IZH Planet 5 motorcycle consists of: a headlight bulb, a blue turn-on indicator light, a parking light bulb, and a rear brake light bulb.

The following control devices are installed on the bike:

  • tachometer, on which there are indicator lights for the headlights and turns;
  • speedometer showing total and daily mileage;
  • power engine temperature indicator;
  • voltmeter.

Maintenance

Those who love their bike regularly monitor its technical condition. During operation, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the gap between the breaker contacts. To carry out this operation, you need an electrical diagram of the IZH 5 motorcycle, which shows the connection of devices, and the corresponding tools.

The procedure consists of the following steps:

  1. The motorcycle should be placed on the stand and put in neutral.
  2. Next you need to unscrew the spark plugs.
  3. Then remove the cover from the crankcase.
  4. At the next stage, you need to ensure that the contacts are as open as possible. To do this, we need to turn the crankshaft.
  5. Next, you need to loosen the locking screw using a screwdriver.
  6. Using a feeler gauge, the gap should be set to 0.35-0.45 mm. Fix the gap with a screw.
  7. We do the assembly in reverse order.

When the clearance is correctly set, the engine idles stably.

The electrical circuit of IZH 3, 4, 5 and 6 is quite simple and any driver can figure it out in order to repair it with his own hands if necessary.

This need may arise in the following cases:

  • operating the bike in wet weather (contacts oxidize);
  • movement through areas overgrown with vegetation (mechanical damage to wiring);
  • trips in winter (dirt sticks, which can damage the wiring).

On both IZH 5 and 6 bikes there may be problems with the sound signal; it may sound weaker. To adjust it, you need to loosen the lock nut, turn on the ignition and use a screwdriver to adjust the tone. Once the desired tone is achieved, the locknut must be tightened.

Maintenance Features

Often during operation it is necessary to correctly set the gap between the contacts of the breaker. To do this, you need tools and a diagram to see which elements need to be dismantled.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. place the motorcycle on the stand;
  2. turn on neutral;
  3. unscrew the spark plug from the cylinder;
  4. remove the engine crankcase cover;

  1. turn the crankshaft until the contacts are as open as possible;
  2. using a screwdriver, loosen the locking screw;
  3. using a special feeler gauge, set the gap to 0.35-0.45 mm and fix it with a screw;
  4. we collect everything in reverse sequence;

  1. turn on the ignition and start the engine. Its stable operation at idle indicates that the adjustment has been correctly performed.

In general, all the wiring of IZH Planet 5 is very easy to do with your own hands.

The need for such work often arises when operating a motorcycle:

  1. in wet weather, driving in the rain for a long time (oxidation or dampness of electrical contacts);
  2. when traveling over rough terrain, replete with vegetation and bushes (mechanical damage to wiring);
  3. when used in winter (snow and slush stick to the wires and can damage them).
