Honda Tact AF 30/31 scooter review

Scooters Honda Tact AF 30/31 , produced 1993-2001, are Japanese 50cc scooters designed for comfortable transportation of two passengers, both in the city and outside the city. The TACT AF 30/31 scooters are developed on the basis of the TACT AF 24 model. The motor on these scooters is of the same type and provides good traction characteristics, which makes it possible for two passengers to travel safely, even on a country road. The front wishbone suspension makes driving on uneven roads comfortable. We present to you a review of the Honda Tact AF 30/31 scooters, with a complete description and review of these models.

The manufacturer is constantly improving the parameters of the models and therefore Japanese 50cc scooters that went on sale at different times have different technical data. For example, for AF 30 the torque is 0.70 at 6000 rpm, and for AF 31 it is 0.65 at 6500 rpm.

On the AF 31 model, for better driving around the city, the brake design was changed - it is disc. The oil and fuel tank volumes are increased in the AF 31 model compared to the AF 30.

In Russia, mainly used Japanese 50cc scooters They are repaired and have a 1 year warranty. Often these are scooters that have undergone technical tuning, so their technical parameters may differ from those indicated in the passport. Sometimes the engine power can be increased and the speed indicated is 70 km/h, instead of the nominal 60 km/h.

Technical characteristics of Honda Tact AF 30/31 scooters of the latest years of production:

1655 mm length 640 mm width 1025 mm total height 1175 mm base 725 mm seat height AF24E engine model cylinder one stroke two 49 cc displacement 39.0-41.4 mm piston diameter-stroke 7.3 compression ratio 6.1-6500 (hp .-rpm) power transmission-variable gearbox ignition-electric starter 60 km/h rated speed drum brakes (front disc on AF31) 1.2 liters - oil tank volume 5.0 liters - gas tank volume 74 kg - total weight of AF30 68 kg - total weight of AF3 .

According to reviews of many scooter riders, the 30/31 model, like all Japanese 50cc scooters, is a very reliable unit. They are easy to use, and in case of repair there are no problems with spare parts, since even parts from Honda Dio will do. The good design of the shock absorbers ensures a soft ride for the scooters, which is especially appreciated by passengers when driving on country roads. The ground clearance of the AF 30 is 105 mm, slightly higher than that of the 31 model. The weight of the 30 and 31 scooters differs slightly.

Advantages and disadvantages of Honda Tact 30/31

Advantages:

  • High capacity.
  • Practicality - suitable for people of all ages.
  • Load capacity – 150 kg.
  • The front wishbone suspension is ideal for driving on country and forest roads.
  • Possibility of installing a basket and panniers in combination with two built-in luggage racks.
  • Disc brakes on the AF 31 make it possible to drive around the city.
  • The location of the gas tank is under the floor.
  • Excellent handling.

Flaws:

  • Gluttony of oil and demands on its quality.
  • The front wishbone suspension is not suitable for city driving.
  • Low top speed.
  • Typical unattractive design (models from the 90s).

The owners note that the AF 30/31 is an economical and reliable scooter of Japanese quality, ideal for comfortable travel on rough roads.

The sixth incarnation of the Honda Tact

The sixth generation Honda Tact scooter (produced under the factory designations AF-30 and AF-31), which debuted in 1993, was very slightly different in technical equipment and even in appearance from its predecessor (models with the designation AF-24).

But in fact, this is a completely new scooter - completely unified with another popular family of Honda scooters, the Dio model.

Model features

The main difference in the layout is that the tank on the AF-30/31 was moved under the floor (previously it was in the underseat tank), which increased the volume of the luggage compartment. As for the volume of the gas tank, it remained almost the same:

  • for AF-30 – 4.5 liters (0.3 liters less than AF-24);
  • for AF-31 - 5 liters (0.2 liters more than AF-24).

The AF-30 has drum brakes on both wheels, while the AF-31 has disc brakes at the front.

Externally, the sixth generation Honda Tact does not stand out from its classmates. Even in comparison with the previous generation model, in terms of design, there are minimal differences... except that the AF-30/31 looks more streamlined and modern.

The engine remained the same - AF24E, but it was slightly modernized, increasing power to 6.1 hp.

The main goal that Honda engineers pursued when creating the new Tact was to unify the production of the Tact and Dio scooter range in order to reduce costs.

Advantages and disadvantages

Main advantages of Honda Tact AF-30/31:

  • quite modern appearance (the Chinese still produce similar models);
  • excellent handling;
  • simplicity of design;
  • high reliability;
  • prevalence in the secondary market (which makes it easier to find “body” parts);
  • placement of the gas tank under the floor.

This model has no significant drawbacks, unless you purchase a “rolled” copy that has not been properly cared for.

Specifications

  • length: 1675 mm;
  • height: 1025 mm;
  • base: 1175 mm;
  • engine capacity: 49 cm³;
  • engine type: gasoline, two-stroke, single-cylinder;
  • cooling type: forced, air;
  • maximum power: 6.1 hp at 7000 rpm;
  • gas tank volume: 4.5/5.0 l;
  • oil tank volume: 1.2 l;
  • fuel consumption: 2.04 l./100 km (at a speed of 30 km/h).

Overall, the scooter turned out to be excellent; at the moment, this particular Tact modification is considered the best choice in terms of price/quality/ease of maintenance/reliability.

If you choose between the Honda Tact AF-30/31 and the AF-24 model, then it is better to choose the AF-30/31. With approximately the same price, there will be fewer problems with finding spare parts for the AF-30/31, although you still need to take into account that Tact of any generation in Russia is not as widespread as Dio.

Honda Tact 30 scooter: general overview

Honda Tact 30 is a scooter that was first released in Japan in 1993. Since then, this model has become widespread and has become extremely popular due to its excellent characteristics. Despite its almost worldwide popularity, the Honda Tact scooter is the most popular in Russia. The reason for this is its endurance, reliability, strength, relatively low fuel consumption and excellent handling. The special design of the steering wheel of this unit allows you to ride it comfortably even on bad roads.

As mentioned above, the technical characteristics of the Honda Tact are quite remarkable. We should start considering them, of course, with the engine.

So, this model has a two-stroke engine of the AF24E type, the volume of which is 49 cubic centimeters, the power is 6.1 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 7000 rpm. The engine has one cylinder.

In the Honda Tact scooter, the fuel and oil tanks are separate, the volume of the first is 5 liters, and the volume of the second is 1.2 liters. Of course, this is quite a bit, but the fuel consumption of this scooter is not at all great.

The maximum speed of this vehicle is quite low - only 60 kilometers per hour, but on country roads more is not needed, and the Honda Tact is usually taken specifically for driving on bad roads.

The scooter is equipped with drum brakes on both wheels. It also has very soft shock absorbers, which allows you to “dampen” almost any bumps. The steering fork is also very noteworthy - thanks to its special design, it makes it easier to control the scooter and dampens steering wheel vibration. Thanks to these characteristics, the scooter has a very smooth ride, which is sure to please the driver, whether experienced or novice.

The dimensions of the Honda Tact are quite small. Its length is slightly more than one and a half meters, and its height is equal to a meter. Moreover, its weight reaches only 71 kilograms, which makes it extremely easy to control even for weak people. The ground clearance is 10 centimeters, which makes the scooter very passable.

Honda Tact is equipped with a durable trunk, which makes it indispensable when going fishing or picking mushrooms and berries. Its spaciousness will also come in handy when going on a picnic. In addition, the scooter has two glove compartments in which you can store the most necessary tools.

One of the main differences between the Honda Tact 30 and previous models is the location of the tank - while previously it was located under the seat, in this model it was moved to the underground area, which significantly improved weight distribution.

In addition, this scooter is equipped with excellent powerful crystal optics, an anti-theft system and a catalytic converter. Front and rear brakes are combined into a single system.

The Honda Tact has a one-and-a-half seat that can comfortably accommodate one overweight person or two of average build.

Externally, this scooter is very attractive - small, neat and sporty, it will certainly attract the attention of any person.

This model has its downsides, but they are not many. Thus, it has a fairly low acceleration speed and, despite its excellent road behavior, is characterized by slight rolliness at low speeds.

Appearance

A little about appearance. The scooter looks like most of its competitors at the time. Manufacturer Honda has not brought any innovations to the line; there are no distinctive features from other “Japanese” brands. The model has a plastic body and a slightly inclined front part. The plastic used is of fairly high quality, because even after 25 years you can find decent specimens. The turn signals are located on the steering wheel, with an oval headlight located between them.

Looking at the elongated seat, the orientation of the scooter is immediately noticeable - it is designed to carry two passengers. There is a traditional trunk at the rear that can accommodate panniers. A basket is installed in front.

The photo shows the Honda Tact AF30 dashboard, compartment under the seat for hand luggage.

Under the driver's seat there is a trunk where hand luggage and small items can be placed. The dashboard has a speedometer, odometer, turn signal indicator, fuel and oil level sensor. All symbols are large and look nice.

Parameters of the Tact AF 30 scooter

The total weight of the scooter is 73 kg, which is not considered low among its competitors. Full list of dimensional characteristics:

  • Length – 1675 mm.
  • Width, (AF30/31) – 615/625 mm.
  • Height – 1025 mm.
  • Wheelbase – 1175 mm.
  • Ground clearance – 100 mm.

Front brake type, Tact AF30 – drum, AF31 – disc.

The scooter is quite compact, but for its purposes it has a rather low ground clearance. The AF 30 is equipped with front and rear drum brakes; their advantage over disc brakes is that they are well protected from dirt and moisture. This is very helpful when driving on country roads.

The weight of the Honda Tact AF30 scooter is 74, AF31 – 73 kg.

The scooter can withstand up to 150 kg of weight. Compared to the previous Tact AF24 model, the overall dimensions have been increased for more comfortable movement with a passenger. In terms of dimensions, the AF 30/31 can be compared with the Honda Lead.

Difference between Tact AF 30 and AF 31

The Tact AF 30 and AF 31 models have some differences in the braking system. Different sizes in width and weight of 1 kg. The AF 31 has a disc brake at the front, the AF 30 has a drum brake. Therefore, the Tact AF31 is more suitable for city driving than for use outside the city. The width of AF30 is 10 mm less (for AF30 - 615, AF31 - 625 mm.)
