The development and improvement of the BRP Can-am Outlander Max 800 ATV has been going on for quite some time. It is due to this that the new specimens are as versatile as possible and adapted to a wide variety of operating conditions.
The first model created was the BRP Outlander 400 ATV. This model quickly gained popularity and many reviews, most of which boiled down to the fact that the car did not have enough power.
This feedback served as some kind of goal for creating a more powerful engine. Thus, in 2005, the manufacturer introduced a model with a Rotax engine designed for 800 cc, which is often used in modern ATVs, in particular in the Outlander Max 800.
This ATV has very excellent handling parameters, which made it possible for inexperienced drivers to use the equipment or as a first vehicle to get acquainted with motor vehicles.

Typically, models with the LTD designation are indeed, if not exclusive, like suits from the best couturiers, then at least produced in a limited edition and fully equipped “for all occasions.” The Outlander Max 800R LTD is a little different from its previous brothers. First of all, the engine power, which is 71 hp. With. versus 67 that were previously. The engine, as before, is 800 cc with a V-shaped camber of two cylinders. In principle, engines of this design are respected by chopper fans for their high torque and good traction at low speeds.
Of course, the Outlander Max 800R LTD is equipped with a CVT transmission with a well-calibrated CVT designed for high traction. If you follow the technical description, the weight of the trailer that this quad can pull behind itself on a towbar with fully loaded luggage racks and a passenger is 590 kg.
What's new? This year, in addition to a more powerful engine, the Outlander Max 800R LTD is equipped with a new, faster Visko-Lok QE system, which almost instantly reacts to changes in traction on the wheels and automatically turns on the lock. The differential lock is activated without the need to reduce the speed of the quad, that is, as we were driving, we are driving, and the system itself works at the right moment.
The air pressure monitoring system in the suspension elements has been updated (Air Control Suspension). It can change the stiffness of the suspension elements depending on driving conditions. The new Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) system has two positions and provides precise control of the ATV both on the highways and in off-road conditions.

Fans of traveling in the wild will appreciate the new GPS navigator, which is similar in many functions to the car nuvi 500, plus it has good protection from various types of mechanical influences. And finally, new wheels created specifically for the “limited edition” Outlander 800R. Each disc reduces unsprung weight by almost 300 g (compared to last year's discs) and still looks very impressive.
The right 3,000-pound (1,360 kg) winch will get the Outlander Max 800R LTD out of virtually any sticky situation when needed.
In fact there are more updates. These can be obtained from the distributor or dealers.
Today, the Outlander Max 800R LTD automatically turns out to be one of the most “packed” ATVs and at the same time one of the most technologically advanced, if we consider the issue of production, of course.

Technical characteristics of BRP Outlander Max 800
The company's first ATV was the Outlander 400, but the device lacked the power to overcome difficult obstacles. Therefore, in 2005, the brand developed the Rotax engine, which is used in all modern BRP all-terrain vehicles. The Outlander Max 800 model is equipped with a 71 hp engine, providing excellent dynamics and high cross-country ability.
Key features of the all-terrain vehicle:
- 800cc Rotax V-twin engine cm.
- Liquid cooling of the engine.
- Electronic fuel system with two injectors.
- Electronic ignition.
- All-wheel drive operating in 4WD and 2W modes.
- Kick starter and electric starter.
- Transmission – CVT variator.
- Independent torsion bar (rear) and double wishbone (front) suspension.
- Oil shock absorbers FOX Performance S 1.2 Podium RC 2.
- Cast aluminum wheels.
- Dual-circuit braking system.
- Dynamic power steering.
- Gas tank with a capacity of 20.5 liters. Fuel consumption depends on the route, driving style and speed. On average, the device consumes 14 liters of gasoline per 100 km.
- The dry weight of the device is 362 kg.
- Load capacity is 135 kg and towing capacity is 590 kg.
The package of the two-seater device includes: powerful LED lighting, two luggage racks, a durable bump stop, a winch, a trunk, a tow bar, and hand protection.
If desired, the buyer can immediately tune the device. The manufacturer offers to strengthen the luggage racks, install a winch with a remote control, install a differential lock, three-range power steering, gas shock absorbers and Carliste ATV tires. In addition to factory tuning, the buyer is recommended to bleed the brakes, since due to the heavy weight of the device, its handling suffers. It is also possible to retrofit the ATV with a snow blade.

Test drive BRPOutlander 800 R
Don't trust tuners? Then just for you is an ATV, already factory prepared for the toughest trophies - the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr... The Arctic Cat Mud Pro ATV, which debuted a couple of years ago as a “mud professional”, was not long the only one in this category.
This year the class of factory-made mud stirrers was replenished with the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr, which we nicknamed “the bogeyman” because of the consonant index. Although, in essence, there is nothing new in it. All changes relative to the basic utilitarian “eight hundred” have long been known and worked out by tuning firms.
We started with the fact that among the “pros for the trophy” the monster produced by Can-Am is not the only one, but its competitor Arctic Cat cannot boast of one very important technical solution - namely, a radiator placed on the front trunk. Can you imagine the heat dissipation from a powerful motor of such an immodest volume? How quickly do the radiator honeycombs become covered with dirt if its normal place is behind the front bumper? Then the following happens. Insufficient cooling leads to constant overheating of the engine, which calls for repairs. And this is unpleasant, time-consuming and expensive, because spare parts for branded quads are very, very expensive. However, enough theory. Let's move on to the test.
THE MAIN THING IS WHEELS
The cross-country ability of an ATV is largely determined by the tires, so there are 30-inch wheels, identical on the front and rear, 9 inches wide. Although the lug size of Gorilla Axle Silverback tires is simply monstrous. I couldn’t even believe that such rollers were capable of providing at least some controllability on hard ground. The reality exceeded expectations: this heavy quad rode normally at speeds typical for advanced touring. Moreover, thanks to the electric booster, it turned out to be surprisingly easy to control. And the amplifier here has the correct algorithm: more speed - less gain, and vice versa.
To be honest, for some time now the thought that, for example, you could get stuck here doesn’t make me feel any optimism. Although with experience comes a certain sense of the ground. I see that ahead there is grass, characteristic of swampy swamps, and the relief is dropping a little - yeah, it smells like a winch here. So, what are we going to cling her to? But such thoughts appear only when driving standard ATVs, because this yellow all-terrain vehicle gives rise to a feeling of permissiveness. And what’s nice is that the elastic arch extensions prevent dirt from flying onto the pilot. True, when you turn the steering wheel, small scraps still reach their goal.
The most interesting tests were on the edge of a flooded swamp. Despite its impressive weight, the quad most likely has positive buoyancy due to the huge and relatively light wheels. But it’s not worth sitting on it when crossing water obstacles, because, firstly, it’s extra pounds, which also increases the center of gravity, and secondly, it’s very unstable. A small current is enough for the quadric to proudly float upward with its toothy wheels. As for protection from water, the snorkel system from the variator and engine air intake is located at the highest point of the front trunk. And in general, everything was thought out, so after numerous swims the headlights didn’t even fog up.
It looks like even a beginner who buys this device will immediately become comfortable in the company of experienced mud diggers. The main thing is to decide to pay more than seven hundred thousand rubles for it. After all, in the “most expensive serial utility vehicle” category, our test subject is wearing the leader’s yellow jersey.
CAUTION TECHNICAL DETAILS
The engine of the Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr is an already well-known two-cylinder 800 cc fuel-injected engine. The transmission uses a CVT with reduction gear. The front differential is equipped with Visco-Loc QE locking. The drives are reinforced, as are the hubs. To reduce unsprung masses, brake mechanisms are installed on the drives at the point where they exit the gearbox. Winch – BRP XL3000 Warn. The suspension uses four Fox Racing Shox gas shock absorbers, providing six options for adjusting stiffness. Moreover, you can change the stiffness on the fly. There is also a hose for inflating the wheels.
