Review of the Can-Am Defender 6×6 ATV
Among the 2021 Can-Am lineup announced last week, there was one vehicle that warranted a deeper dive: the 2021 Can-Am Defender 6x6 DPS HD10.

The model has wide and large wheels, which, in addition to cross-country ability, also significantly improves the appearance. The Outlander Max 800 BRP uses a rather interesting design that protects the driver’s body in the event of a fall with special shields.
It should be noted that the ATV initially has a double seat, but if this is not necessary, it is fashionable to install a spacious luggage compartment instead of the passenger one. But such an opportunity did not arise immediately, since the first models had several configurations with a choice of seats, and as practice has shown, it is the two-seater versions that are in greatest demand, which later established such a standard.
The device turned out to be quite maneuverable. To a large extent, this indicator was influenced by the increase in power, thanks to which the equipment can climb almost any slope without much difficulty. However, descending is a little more difficult, since the mass of the ATV gives it even greater acceleration. Therefore, at first, this can cause a loss of composure for inexperienced drivers.
The equipment is suitable for any operating conditions, due to its impressive reliability. This was achieved through the use of second generation space beam technology. In addition to reliability and safety, this also had a positive effect on the appearance of the ATV, making it even more stylish.
In 2015, and it was then that a deep modernization of this model was introduced to the motorcycle market, the ATV was one of the most anticipated, which is explained by the combination of high comfort, durability and speed.
In many of its parameters, the BRP Can-am Outlander Max 800 is quite close to the sports versions, and thanks to its reliability, the equipment has proven itself to be a multifunctional station wagon.
As additional options, the manufacturer offers installation:
- Additional reinforcement for the front and rear bumpers. It is worth noting that this option is often used by travelers.
- New Carlisle ATV tires, identical to standard sizes.
- FOX PODIUM high pressure gas shock absorbers.
- New alloy wheels made of aluminum and equipped with beadlocks.
- Three-range dynamic power steering.
- Quick-release locking front center differential of the front wheels.
- Roller cable laying mechanism with winch and remote control.

Comparison with competitors
Buyers choosing an ATV face a difficult choice. The BRP company has released two similar series: Can Am Outlander 1000 and Renegade 1000. The devices of both lines are very similar in technical terms, but differ significantly in price. The utilitarian 1000 XT, released in 2021, costs around 1,500,000-1,600,000 rubles, and the Renegade can be ordered for only 800,000 rubles. However, the Outlander has better cross-country ability. The Renegade Sport model is not designed for rough trails or wet terrain.
The BRP Outlander 1000 ATV is also seriously competing with the Scrambler XP 1000, created by the American company Polaris. A stylish device with a predatory design, more powerful than Canadian technology. Under the hood of the American lies 89 hp, which is 7 hp more than in the 1000 XT model. The Scrambler XP 1000 has another tangible advantage - price. The Polaris device costs approximately 1,250,000-1,300,000 rubles.

Operating experience and advantages of BRP Outlander 1000 XT
The Outlander 1000 ATV has proven itself when driving off-road and on difficult trails. The owners noted that the device handles confidently on any road and can even drive through a small swamp.
Users also rated:
- Build quality. Plastic parts can withstand even strong impacts and sudden temperature changes. A durable frame and high-quality shock absorbers make the off-road ride soft and smooth. But before operation, it is recommended to check all bolts and, if necessary, tighten them.
- High cross-country ability. The BRP Can Am Outlander 1000R ATV is capable of driving on any off-road terrain, climbing a small hill, crossing a stream or swamp.
- Specifications. The manufacturer stuffed the utility with first-class parts that provide high power and versatility. The vehicle can accelerate to 110 km/h and tow a load weighing 500 kg.
- Reliability. The Canadian device can skate for several seasons without the slightest breakdown.
The only drawback of Outlander is its high cost. The device from the showroom will cost 1.5-1.6 million rubles. A used ATV can be found for 900,000-1,200,000 thousand rubles.

The machine is equipped with heavy-duty plastic skis, thanks to which you can move over rough terrain
Let us once again pay attention to the ergonomic seat with the ability to adjust its height. The passenger backrest provides a comfortable seating position for all crew members
A small trunk under the front seat allows you to carry hand luggage, accessories, spare parts and a fuel canister. The car received impact-resistant glass, a feature of which is an increased height that protects the protection from headwinds. A large range is provided by a 40-liter fuel tank, which is enough for long trips of several hundred kilometers.
The snowmobile's rugged design comes from the REV-XU aluminum platform, which is designed to withstand various deformations in the event of a rollover. This platform increases vehicle stability, reduces overall weight and improves handling, making steering responses more responsive.
