BRP Ski-Doo MX Z Renegade 800R is a new generation snowmobile, used for a variety of tasks in any environmental conditions. The machine has proven itself well in the world market and has been produced for quite a long time. The model was developed by the Canadian brand BRP. After entering production in 2011, it became clear what BRP representatives should strive for. After all, as a result, they got a powerful and practical device, time-tested. It perfectly combines great speed and efficiency.
The snowmobile of the same name is developed on the REV-XS platform, the features of which include an aluminum track tunnel and a rigid pyramidal frame. This arrangement had a positive effect on handling. Moreover, we must recognize the fact that the REV-XS “trolley” made it possible to significantly lighten the weight of the snowmobile and make it more maneuverable. The single seat is designed in such a way that the driver has the ability to move his body a significant distance, which is very important for different driving styles.
The model received a durable chassis that is resistant to high loads. Thus, the front suspension is based on A-arms with HPG Plus R gas shock absorbers. As an option, you can install a quick-release anti-roll bar link. This “earring” is easy to put on and take off without the use of professional tools.
The rear features the proven rMotion suspension, which is adjustable thanks to the company's HPG Plus/KYB Pro 36 shocks and can be adjusted in just a few minutes. Moreover, as practice and observations of the users themselves have shown, this suspension has the greatest travel among its competitors. This is not surprising, given the fact that during its development the main attention was paid to settings that are aimed at a comfortable ride over uneven surfaces, as well as when performing jumps from small springboards. Of course, such a chassis is the most resistant to breakdowns on difficult terrain. And at the same time, the rMotion suspension is endowed with good stability on hard-packed roads.
Especially for the snowmobile in question, you can install a special PowderMax mountain track, which can also be found on Summit mountain snowmobiles. Such tracks seriously increase geometric maneuverability.
The powerful powertrain found in the BRP Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade 800R snowmobile provides optimal power and traction under high loads. The motor is designed to quickly gain speed, even when starting from a standstill. With such high-speed capabilities, the developers could not ignore braking efficiency - for this, by the way, safe racing brakes are provided.
The BRP Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade 800R is distinguished by its stylish appearance, characteristic of all models of the Canadian concern BRP. Let us note an interesting combination of different colors that can be personalized (selected) at your discretion. This appearance greatly attracts attention, and such a snowmobile cannot go unnoticed.

2013 Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 Review
New reckless driver from Ski-Doo
The snow is approaching, people are getting ready to ride, and one thing is becoming clear: the idea of a powerful hybrid (sport/mountain) snowmobile has changed a lot in recent years. Fans of fast driving are no longer looking for a nimble car with a short track. Such snowmobiles are still in service, but newfangled hybrid machines combine the style and power of their “short” counterparts with an extended track and new elements in ergonomics and control. And that's where the Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 comes to the fore - at full throttle!
Ski-Doo promotional materials cover what their fans already know. The Renegade combines the impressive performance of the base MXZ with the off-road capabilities of a long-track mountain sled. Of course, there were some compromises. The MXZ, with its short track, corners a little better and faster, and is also generally more agile, which real snow riding aces will appreciate. But still, the Renegade X with its 137-inch track is a chic combination snowmobile.
The Renegade X 800 with its extended track is one of the representatives of the new generation of currently popular powerful combination snowmobiles.
The secret to the popularity of this new type of snowmobile is simple. They perform just as well as the MXZ on well-packed trails, but the increased track length and wheelbase give sport-riding enthusiasts the ability to confidently overcome those bumps that arise after snowmobiles have been driving along the trail all day. And in sharp turns, these machines are almost as nimble as aggressive snowmobiles with smaller tracks. We like that the increased snow traction area helps keep the track from slipping and acting up if you give it too much throttle in corners. Young, hot riders may not notice it, but snowmobile veterans will appreciate the extra traction.
The rMotion suspension is easily and quickly adjusted using footpeg-mounted adjusters.
In fact, the X version of the Renegade may not be available now as it was an early order sled. However, if you can find it, don’t miss it under any circumstances. The sled features the same "XS" styling as the MXZ "X". This means you'll get a chic, aggressive new body style that makes the 2013 model stand out from its predecessors. But more importantly, the Renegade X features the latest version of the rMotion rear suspension introduced last season. The 2012 Renegade lacked it, a Ski-Doo marketing mistake that has since been corrected. Of course, BRP might not have known that the extended track would become so popular, but on the MXZ and Renegade it is a success. The setup definitely works, and the rMotion suspension and footpeg-mounted adjusters make this sled something truly special. With them, setup is much easier and faster. Plus, this is a good opportunity to respond to your friends - especially those who ride a Polaris Rush or the new Switchback. Essentially, rMotion and the Polaris suspension do the same thing, just in different ways. Plus, we're confident that rMotion is much easier to adjust on the go. And without tools!
The Ski-Doo Renegade X 800 features a 16-inch-wide track with 1.25-inch-high lugs for improved traction and flotation.
We admit that we like both of these suspension systems: the new Polaris system and the Ski-Doo rMotion. The rMotion installed on the X version is very easy to use and literally provokes the driver to adjust it to suit himself. The concept is reminiscent of the simplicity of early Ski-Doo Torque Reaction, equipped with multi-level adjustment units that adjusted the torsion spring settings. rMotion is a more advanced system, of course, but just as easy to use. Quick adjustment of springs, shock absorbers and connecting block can be done without tools. rMotion is a great addition to the flexible nature of the sled.
Renegade embodies a new subtype of snowmobile, from which drivers expect serious high-speed performance and excellent handling in corners. In addition, those who like more aggressive riding will appreciate the good maneuverability of the snowmobile with its single-ply 137-inch track. By comparison, the MXZ track is 17 inches shorter and one inch narrower.
Rotax engineers worked with Evinrude to create a direct injection engine aimed at snowmobiles.
The only right choice for true reckless drivers is the 800 cc 2-stroke 2-cylinder engine from Rotax with direct injection. Say what you want, but this is a masterpiece of engineering. Working with Evinrude, a team of Ski-Doo and Rotax specialists adapted technologies provided by BRP to create a sled capable of producing 163 horsepower. at 1 gallon/19 miles! Other benefits we noted include good oil consumption, responsive throttle, and smooth power delivery worthy of a 4-stroke engine. So 2 stroke or 4 stroke? If you've been thinking about the latter option, the Rotax E-TEC might make you reconsider.
Among other things, the 2013 Renegade X boasts one nice feature - a heated glove compartment. The idea of a small storage box near the windshield is not new; Polaris and Arctic Cat have already done this. But here, the heat from the engine helps keep an extra pair of safety glasses or gloves dry and warm.
Among the external changes, it is worth noting a windshield with side deflectors, as well as dual air intakes near the headlights and improved protection from wind and snow. The multi-function instrument panel displaying speed, rpm and temperature has also been updated.
The Ski-Doo Renegade X features a 137-inch, 16-inch wide Ripsaw track for superior flotation.
We can't say we're crazy about the straight aluminum handlebars and J-bars, but they get the job done. It would be nice to see a more modern and comfortable handlebar design like Yamaha or Arctic Cat, but the current design handles this powerful sled effectively.
The 2013 Renegade X 800 E-TEC marks the beginning of what we believe is a new and one of the most popular types of snowmobiles. The overall design promotes race-like riding on packed snow with the ability to handle large bumps. The Renegade X is a great example of a combination snowmobile that combines the benefits of sport and mountain models. With a powerful Rotax 2-cylinder engine and rMotion suspension, the Renegade X is an excellent choice for serious drivers. If you can't find the X version, check out the publicly available Renegade Adrenaline with rMotion and 800cc twin-cylinder engine. It's not built on the XS platform, and it doesn't have the high-end HPG Plus R shocks. But it's a worthy alternative if you don't want to wait and order a 2014 Model X.

Engine
The performance of the BRP Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade 800R snowmobile comes from a reliable two-stroke unit that runs quietly and smoothly. This engine is characterized by smooth and uninterrupted operation with a pleasant sporty sound. The level of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere from such an engine is at a record low level, compared to other competing machines. The engine is equipped with a modern injection system, which has a beneficial effect on fuel efficiency. According to test measurements, average fuel consumption reaches 15 liters per 100 km. Other advantages include easier starting in any weather, as well as a perfectly tuned throttle handle with light pressure. This handle allows you to more accurately dose the gas supply. There is no need to prepare the engine for automatic preservation - thanks to the presence of an automatic preservation system. With a displacement of 0.8 liters, the engine develops 137 horsepower.
The two-cylinder in-line engine has the following features:
- Fuel injection system
- Liquid cooling
- Electronic ignition system CDI
- Emergency shutdown system for internal combustion engines under critical load (for example, in case of overheating)
- A spacious 40-liter fuel tank, as well as a 3.5-liter oil tank.
Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade 600 HO E-TEC. High tech
Until recently, E-Tec technology was used primarily on Evinrude outboards. Today it has migrated to snowmobiles manufactured by Ski-Doo, a company that, like Evinrude, is part of the BRP concern.

Two words about E-Tec technology. It involves direct injection of fuel into the combustion chamber of a 2-stroke engine under very high pressure (up to 2000 bar). The combustion chamber and the upper part of the piston are designed in such a way that the mixture of air and fuel is evenly distributed throughout the combustion chamber, which is very important for the most complete combustion of fuel. The combustion process itself in most engine operating modes occurs “layer by layer”, that is, evenly. In theory, this process is reminiscent of the “stratified combustion” that occurs in diesel engines. Installing E-Tec injection on a 2-stroke engine can significantly reduce fuel and oil consumption, thus bringing it closer to 4-stroke engines in terms of efficiency, and also maintain all the advantages of 2-stroke engines, such as fast acceleration and low weight . Of course, this description is very brief and simplified as much as possible.
So, E-Tec has made its way to snowmobiles. The new MXZ Renegade 600 is equipped with a 600 cc 2-stroke engine producing 117 hp. For the “six hundred” 117 hp. - a good indicator, you agree. The manufacturer himself gives an example of fuel economy. For example, the well-known Rotax 600 HO SDI engine, which is considered quite economical, turns out to be as much as 19% more power-hungry than the new 600 HO E-Tec engine. At the same time, the recruit manages to eat half as much oil. The new motor comes with a 3-year warranty, the same as Evinrude E-Tec outboard motors. True, the manufacturer gives a 10,000 km guarantee on spark plugs. But with our average mileage in the modern winter, this is no longer so relevant. Few people in North-West Russia will “run” such a distance in three winters, except perhaps the residents of snowy Siberia.
The Renegade 600 HO E-Tec is based on the REV-XP chassis, which will appeal to active drivers for its rigidity and easy handling. Light weight, good weight distribution, excellent maneuverability and excellent dynamics - all this makes the Renegade 600 HO E-Tec a tasty morsel for those who know a lot about winter fun. A fairly long and wide track (3487 by 406 mm) with developed lugs (31.8 mm), as well as large suspension travel, allow the new snowmobile to be used both on pistes and in deep snow.
Another interesting feature of Ski-Doo snowmobiles equipped with engines with E-Tec technology. The 600 HO E-Tec motor “automatically” preserves itself after the end of winter.

- Sergey, Nizhny Novgorod region. The 800 model snowmobile was purchased in 2015. The car gave me a pleasant experience, but as always it was not without problems. So, after 140 km, the spark plug suddenly burned out. I didn’t have a spare one, and the engine refused to start. It was in the middle of nowhere, and I had to call a tow truck! After another 100 km, a noise appeared when accelerating slowly, then I noticed a cracking noise under the seat. If you accelerate more intensely and quickly, then these extraneous sounds seem to have never existed. The service center claims that the snowmobile just needs to be warmed up, and there will be no such problems. Of course, I listened to the servicemen, but nothing helped even after I put the car in the garage and warmed it up well - the noise persisted. Fortunately, these sounds then disappear (as the speed increases), and this does not affect performance. And yet, I would like such an expensive snowmobile to not have such “whims.” The acceleration potential of the snowmobile is delightful, and this can be seen from the results of fuel consumption - it does not exceed 20 liters even under heavy load.
- Igor, Vladivostok. The Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade 800R snowmobile, for me, turned out to be not the most successful model, although before the purchase I had completely opposite hopes - they say, a cool Canadian brand and all that. I used the car regularly for two winter seasons (in 2018 for the third season). After the first 500 km the spark plugs failed. I was alarmed by the uneven operation of the engine, with an unexpected drop in speed - for example, in case of overheating, although the load is usually average. In this situation, the tachometer needle drops to the minimum mark, but the internal combustion engine continues to operate. When I start moving, I feel strange clicks in the area of my left leg, and there are also strong vibrations at high speeds. There are no complaints about handling. Suitable for leisurely driving. But when you pick up speed, you get the feeling that the car will soon fall apart. Just recently I had to install a new belt.
- Yuri, Leningrad region. The car was purchased in 2021 from a friend who bought it in 2014. In principle, the supported version is also not bad, but there is not such a pleasant feeling as in the case of a new device. The snowmobile was in good condition, and therefore the friend could not sell it cheap. At an average driving pace, the car consumes 14 liters. I'm glad to see support for 92nd gasoline. Once, after a collision with a snag, the device received minimal damage - although the ski was a little crumpled, but everything was fine. I like the handling - the steering wheel is light and listens to the driver, allowing you to quickly maneuver and avoid forest obstacles. Overall, I'm pleased with the technology so far.
- Boris, Irkutsk. The machine has been in regular use since 2013. The MXZ Renegade 800R snowmobile has traveled 2500 kg to date. The device is not bad, but very expensive. This also applies to the cost of service. Some repairs have to be performed at the dealership due to poor maintainability. But replacing consumables is not a problem; you can do it yourself. The snowmobile has good load-carrying capacity, rides smoothly and without a hint of failure. It has decent dynamics and high fuel efficiency - on average about 15 liters per hundred. Options include heated grips, a powerful battery, and additional headlights. By the way, just recently, when I put the vehicle in reverse, the taillights did not turn on. Then we came to the conclusion that the fuse had blown - a little too early for it. In general, I decided to change it, installed a new block, but after that the engine stopped working. In short, now I drive without a fuse (the taillight does not turn on). Well, let's see what happens next with the car. There have been no serious problems yet.
