Sports snowmobile “Polaris 800 Assault RMK 146”

Snowmobiles that were originally created only for extreme sports can be counted on one hand. One of them is “Polaris 800 Assault RMK 146”. You don’t even need to think about buying it for leisurely tourist trips or using it for other utilitarian purposes. This device was created only to increase the level of adrenaline in the blood of its owner to the maximum.

SPORTS snowmobiles are an endless topic of conversation. Especially if real pros have gathered over a glass of tea.

– Why do you think the developers chose a two-stroke engine for the RMK 146? – I ask Mikhail Kufarev, the head of the Brand company’s service.

I know the answer myself, but it’s interesting to listen to a famous specialist.

“They just haven’t come up with anything better for sports yet.” Bend your fingers: lightweight, compact, repairable..

That's right. Indeed, any four-stroke engine is heavier than a two-stroke engine with similar characteristics. But in sports, every gram counts! In addition, the specific (liter) power of a two-stroke engine is always an order of magnitude higher than that of a four-stroke engine. It is also important that the two-stroke bike easily fits into the chassis of a sports snowmobile. Moreover, there is enough space left for access to it during maintenance and repair.

And if the conversation turns to repairs (and they are inevitable in sports), then any mechanic will tell you that repairing a fairly simple two-stroke engine is a pleasure compared to a much more structurally complex four-stroke engine.

– Listen, what about the environment? After all, one of the reasons why the popularity of two-stroke engines once declined was the emissions of incompletely burned oil into the atmosphere. With a separate lubrication system it simply cannot be any other way.. – Maybe. A modern two-stroke engine has a very precise dosage of oil supply - not a single extra drop is wasted. In addition, after the oil has completed its task, it burns almost completely in the cylinder and almost nothing enters the atmosphere.

...While we were talking, the mechanics started the engine of the snowmobile that I had chosen for the test. It has not yet warmed up, but there is no trace of the characteristic blue smoke from the exhaust pipe.

“You see,” Mikhail continued, “this is the merit of an engine with CFI fuel injection with two injectors per cylinder. It ensures very high cylinder filling efficiency and complete fuel combustion. Do you remember how the old two-stroke machines worked? We would already be choking on smoke here...

Engine

The Polaris RMK 800 snowmobile is equipped with a Liberty brand power unit. This engine has two cylinders, the total displacement of which is 795 cubic meters. The diameter of each cylinder is 85 mm. The piston stroke is 70 mm. The rated output power is 154 horsepower.

The liquid cooling system with bypass allows the machine to be operated at high temperatures. The average fuel consumption for every hundred kilometers is about 16-17 liters. The vehicle is started using an electric starter.

Technical characteristics of Polaris 800 DRAGON RMK

The engine used by Liberty was traditionally liquid cooled; with 2 cylinders, the indicated engine displacement was 795 cc. This allows for 154 horsepower, making the snowmobile's capabilities limitless. With a dry weight of 214 kg, the snowmobile is quite maneuverable and handles well; it also uses a disc brake and a modern variator.

The length of the snowmobile declared by the manufacturer was 327.7 cm with a width of 118 cm. Now you can ride this vehicle for a long time; the Polaris 800 DRAGON RMK has a fuel tank with a capacity of 43.5 liters. Comfort is created using an adjustable IQ RMK front suspension and a standard RMK rear suspension. Professional high-quality Walker Evans shock absorbers are used to ensure maximum suspension comfort.

Review of the Polaris 800 TITAN snowmobile

The idea of “crossing a bulldog with a rhinoceros” is not at all new: long before the birth of the POLARIS 800 TITAN, the cult Lynx Commander with the two-stroke Rotax 800 E-TEC was successfully sold on the market. It was the only option for a symbiosis of a utilitarian and sports snowmobile. But finally the Americans have prepared a symmetrical and, possibly, competitive response to the Canadian monopoly in this segment.

Polaris 800 Titan Price: from RUR 1,149,000 (on sale: from 2018)

Characteristics

Dimensions (length/width/height) 3280/3280/3280 mm Ski track 991 mm Fuel tank volume 53 l Engine 795 cm'. 2-stroke. 2-cylinder. with liquid cooling, injection. 154 hp CVT transmission with high and low ranges, reverse and neutral. Front suspension Axys. Polaris IFP shock absorbers. travel - 236 mm Titan rear suspension, Polaris IFP shock absorbers. stroke - 419 mm Disc brake with hydraulic drive Curb weight 273 kg

TITAN is built on the Axys platform, on which all the most sophisticated Polaris mountain models are successfully produced. Three versions of the Titan are available to the buyer: SP, XC and Adventure, which differ from each other in equipment and configuration. The new modern chassis features Axys front suspension with FOX QS3 shocks with 236 mm of travel and Pro-Float skis. The rear chassis is equipped with a Titan articulated suspension with a FOX QS3 center shock with 419mm of travel and a Cobra track with a 20x155x1.8-inch "near-mounted" track. Thanks to the combination of these engineering tricks, the new American station wagon drives much more pleasantly and interestingly than its Canadian competitor.

According to all the canons of the genre, the snowmobile is propelled by the two-stroke power plant 800 Cleanfire N.O. with a power of more than 150 hp. pp., which we see on all Polaris sports and mountain vehicles. The engine is coupled with a utilitarian Alpha gearbox with low gear and a P-85 CVT from Team. So Titan can quickly and comfortably transport not only two riders, but also their luggage weighing up to 38.5 kg in an optional trunk, and also tow sleds with a load of up to 544 kg! The rich equipment of the new product is not entirely typical for an American brand. Here you will also find a multifunctional LCD dashboard with GPS navigation. And an automatic voltage regulator that ensures maximum power supply at idle and low engine speeds. And heated handles for the driver and passenger, a high windshield, and in the Adventure package an optional winch. And, of course, the Lock8cRide platform, which allows you to easily install a trunk and other accessories for storing and transporting cargo. The test of the new universal snowmobile Polaris Titan took place in the vicinity of snow-covered Kandalaksha. The treacherous “intersection” overgrown with young animals, long roads and steep slopes of the hills surrounding the city made it possible to experience the new product from completely different sides. Thanks to the Axys Titan platform, it is very comfortable during maneuvering, especially with a rider and additional cargo in the sled. The 300-kilogram vehicle navigates slopes and turns with the grace of a short-track crossover. On long straights, a powerful two-stroke engine allows you to keep up with your sportier “colleagues”. So the owner can use this snowmobile not only as a purely utilitarian machine, but also as a comfortable modern “tourist” - to a feast, to the world, and to good people...

But I want to talk about one more aspect of the Polaris 800 Titan. Driving past the hills on which the brand new Polaris Pro-RMK and SKS were frolicking, I couldn’t resist and drove the rather heavy snowmobile, by the standards of “mountainers,” onto the slope. And I’ll tell you what: even the Adventure version with ski extensions installed was very confident in traversing and storming fairly steep slopes. Of course, Titan will not be an alternative to specialized models. But you can be sure that if the need for such extreme techniques arises during your trip, the new Polaris will not let you down! With the right rider skills, the Titan can get out of most sticky situations. Will the Polaris 800 Titan be able to push the time-tested Lynx » Commander 800 E-TEC on the market, especially in our difficult times? I think there are all the prerequisites for this! The 800 Cleanfire engine has been in production for quite some time and has practically gotten rid of all its problems.

And the new, excellent, I must say, balanced Axys platform has already proven itself on the most positive side. But, unfortunately, the main trump card of Polaris - the price, alas, is no longer there: today the importer is asking from 1,149,000 rubles. for the simple SP version up to RUB 1,369,000. for the Adventure package. The price of a competitor from Lynx starts at RUR 1,399,000. The difference is small. So the buyer will have to choose a snowmobile based on the combination of reliability and its technical characteristics. Or according to a more attractive design and color. (Yu. Solonovich, D. Galchun, 5th wheel)
