A few years ago we witnessed the emergence of a new class of snowmobiles—crossovers. The first cars in this segment were middling; it was impossible to choose a chassis. For several years, Arctic Cat had only one line of Crossfire or Mountain M chassis with wide-spaced A-arms, a high and extended seat, a tall windshield and Cobra track with large lugs. This was enough for many buyers, but not all.
Arctic Cat's crossover segment today includes a diverse XF lineup that offers three chassis options: ProTour, ProCross and ProClimb. The ProTour and ProCross platforms are better suited for on-piste riding, but they aren't as good off-piste. The Arctic Cat XF High Country, built on the ProClimb chassis, is closer to a mountain sled, so it handles bumps and bumps very well.
The XF High Country is built for the midwestern driver who spends most of his time behind the wheel conquering tough off-road terrain and sometimes even climbing mountains. Of course, this snowmobile cannot be called fully mountain.
Sometimes drivers choose a mountain snowmobile for driving on the trails, based only on the fact that they sometimes go to the mountains. In fact, a crossover would bring them much more joy, especially the XF High Country. Another reason to choose the XF High Country over a mountain sled is that it comes factory equipped with extended heat exchangers that cool the engine faster and easier. On early frosty mornings, mountain snowmobiles heat up quite quickly due to the fact that they have shortened heat exchangers. In order to correct this situation, you have to use ice scrapers. They are mounted on runners and during the ride they dig into the track and throw snow onto the heat exchanger to keep it cool.

The heart of any snowmobile is its engine. In the XF 8000 High Country, the blood is pumped by a two-stroke 800 cc Suzuki HO engine. This engine has a proven track record of many years, during which it has proven to be the most reliable 800 on the market. It produces approximately 160 horsepower. Crossover snowmobiles Arctic Cat XF
The line of Arctic Cat crossover snowmobiles is very diverse, and anyone who is planning to purchase a snowmobile from the Arctic Cat XF series will involuntarily ask two questions: what are Arctic Cat crossover snowmobiles and how do they differ from each other?
In order to answer the first question, it is necessary to plunge a little into the history of the creation of snowmobiles. Historically, snowmobiles were used for utilitarian purposes, for sporting competitions on special tracks and for mountain riding. Each of the groups of snowmobiles, whether utilitarian or mountaineering, performed its own narrowly defined function - utilitarian snowmobiles required cross-country ability and comfort, while mountain snowmobiles required lightness and power. Unfortunately, not all snowmobile lovers have the opportunity to ride in the mountains, and riding in the middle zone on huge lugs is not always convenient. As for utility vehicles, many are not satisfied with how they steer, and the power of these snowmobiles does not satisfy everyone. Thus, crossovers combine the advantages of different lines - from sports they offer ease of control, from mountaineers they have an extended track and power, from utilitarians they offer comfort and options related to convenience on long trips. Of course, a crossover will not be able to replace a mountain bike in conditions of steep slopes and fresh snow meter deep, but they cope perfectly with the tasks that most snowmobilers encounter in plain or hilly conditions. Likewise, crossovers cannot completely replace a utility vehicle for hunting, but they are much more fun to ride just for fun.
So, we've answered the first question, now let's look at the Arctic Cat XF line. Since 2014, Arctic Cat has changed the designation of engines, so now the four-stroke turbo engine with a volume of 1056 cc and a power of 177 hp is now called 9000, instead of the previous name 1100. The two-stroke engine with a volume of 796 cc and a power of 160 hp. Instead of the previous name, 800 became known as 8000, and the index 7000 was assigned to the newest four-stroke engine with a volume of 1049 cc and a power of 128 hp. Accordingly, if you see one of the indices 7000, 8000 or 9000, then you can immediately understand which engine is on the snowmobile.
Let's move on to the Sno Pro, CrossTour, Cross Country, High Country, Limited and ES indices, what do they mean? The Sno Pro index in the Arctic Cat XF snowmobile line means that the snowmobile is equipped with FOX FLOAT 3 shock absorbers, which give the suspension greater elasticity, a track length of 137 inches and a lug height of 32 mm. If the word CrossTour is present, this means that the track length is 141 inches, the lug is 34 mm and the snowmobile has “native” Arctic Cat shock absorbers (IFP), which are softer compared to FOX FLOAT 3. Also, CrossTour models have iron bumpers in the front , rear luggage area, mirrors and luggage storage bags.
On models designated Cross Country, the lug is already 41 mm, the track length is 141 inches and there are stiffer FOX FLOAT 3 shock absorbers. On High Country models, the mountain lug is 57 mm high, the track length is 141 inches, FOX FLOAT 3 shock absorbers and, unlike all other snowmobiles in the XF line, a mountain seat is installed and the steering wheel is adjusted differently. Electric start is present on all models with four-stroke engines 7000 and 9000, but on two-stroke models with 8000 engines, electric start is only available where there is an ES designation. If the model index contains the word Limited, then this indicates that the snowmobile is equipped with a compartment for storing glasses, a rear luggage bag and a heated seat. As a result, we can conclude that the main criterion that divides the entire line into several categories is the height of the lug and the length of the track, and, of course, do not forget about the other differences. In practice, with crossover snowmobiles it is believed that the higher the lug height, the easier it is in virgin snow, but less comfortable on compacted snow, so the choice must be made based on the purpose of riding.

PowerClaw Track
The XF High Country belongs to the crossover class, which means that it is more designed for driving off-road rather than on highways. But like all Arctic Cat mountain sleds, it is equipped with the PowerClaw track. It is 141 inches long, 15 inches wide and has lugs that are 2.25 inches high. This track makes the High Country incredibly maneuverable. Of course, the relatively short track will prevent the XF from struggling in very deep snow, but overall it will handle moderately deep snow just fine.

Clutch TEAM
For 2021, Arctic Cat went with the TEAM clutch. The XF 8000 High Country is equipped with a TEAM drive clutch and a TEAM BOSS driven clutch. The biggest benefit of this partnership for Arctic Cat is that they now have a wide range of springs, weights and tools at their disposal. TEAM systems are widely recognized for their ability to reduce belt slippage. If this happens, it leads to an increase in operating temperature and rapid wear of the belt.
