Is it possible to install xenon on a motorcycle and how much will it cost? Read on.

Allowed or not

Before you begin choosing and installing xenon headlights, you need to understand the issue of the possibility of installing this type of lighting on a motorcycle.

In accordance with the clarifications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which were adopted on February 20, 2010, the following types of headlights are currently allowed on motorcycles and other types of vehicles:

Thus, the installation of xenon or bi-xenon lamps on a motorcycle is only permitted if a certain type of headlight is used.

All other situations, for example, installing a xenon lamp in a headlight intended for a halogen one, are considered a violation of the established rules and are punishable in accordance with Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses by deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 6–12 months with the confiscation of devices that do not meet the requirements.

If for some reason (darkness, poor visibility, etc.) the headlight cannot be seized at the scene where the offense was discovered, then traffic police officers have the right to completely ban the use of a motorcycle in violation of its design features.

The issue of deprivation of rights will be considered in court.

If the design of the motorcycle does not provide for the possibility of replacing the lamp with a xenon one, then it is possible to completely replace the lighting devices on the vehicle.

To do this, it is necessary to carry out the procedure of re-equipping the motorcycle and adding xenon headlights to it.

The process of legalizing xenon is not particularly difficult. However, to legalize lamps of a different type, it is necessary to spend approximately 3–4 weeks of time and about 5,000–8,000 rubles (depending on the region of residence of the motorcycle owner).

The process of legalization itself is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • the motorcycle is sent for a preliminary examination, at which the issue of the possibility of installing xenon on this particular vehicle is decided;
  • with the result of the examination, you must contact the traffic police and obtain permission to install xenon;
  • Next, equipment is selected in accordance with the recommendations of the traffic police and the priorities of the motorcycle owner;
  • The equipment can be installed independently or at a service center. After installation of the equipment, a declaration of compliance with established standards is issued;
  • A technical inspection is carried out at the traffic police, on the basis of which the changed data is entered into the PTS and the registration certificate.

Important information

Most motorcyclists, as well as motorists, prefer xenon headlights in their vehicles, as they provide better visibility of the road and emerging obstacles.

Before choosing xenon headlights, you should figure out whether they can be installed on a motorcycle and how to do it correctly.

After all, if xenon is installed without the consent of the traffic police or technical experts, then this will not only interfere with other drivers and create an emergency situation, but will also be classified as an offense.

If a traffic police inspector discovers that xenon headlights are present on a vehicle, but they were not structurally provided for, and the driver does not have documents on conversion, then he can not only arrest the car, but also deprive the driver of his license for up to a year.

This also applies if the headlights are certified, the bulbs in them are installed legally, but the adjustment is made incorrectly or is incorrect and the light blinds oncoming and ahead drivers. In this case, there is also a violation punishable by law.

Initial data

The installation of xenon lights on motorcycles must be carried out according to the law; this will require a lot of time and money.

If a motorcycle headlight is designed for a halogen bulb, then under no circumstances should a xenon bulb be installed in it, as it will scatter the light instead of directing it to the space in front of the vehicle using a lens system.

Thus, the light simply spreads forward in a cloud, not providing a proper view, but looking nice without delivering results, and some lamps without a battery additionally strain the main power, so the motorcycle may perform worse.

To install xenon on a motorcycle that is intended for other lamps, you need to do a lot of work, registering everything in the technical department of the traffic police and obtaining permission to work there.

It should be noted that certificates for headlights and light bulbs will need to be provided in any case, so when purchasing these devices it should be noted in advance that official documentation is required that will confirm the origin of the technical devices and their suitability for use.

Separate classes of lamps

In general, for motorcycles and other vehicles, in accordance with the recommendations of the traffic police, there are several types of light bulbs that are suitable for specific headlights and can only be used with them, but only such lighting devices are found in vehicles.

Lamp typePurpose
C, R, CRDevices that can be used for low, high or dual-mode lighting, and are also equipped with incandescent lamps. They represent the oldest version used in headlights, and they are the ones that can be found in older domestic cars
HC, HR, HCRThe designation is used for halogen lamps for low beam, high beam and dual-mode beam, respectively. Provides a good source of bright light, which is used in most modern cars
DC, DR, DCRGas discharge lamps, which are divided into single and double xenon. The newest version of lamps for vehicles, which provides a bright and penetrating light, but requires a special type of headlight, which is equipped with lenses, and does not work quite correctly with other types of reflectors

What regulations governs

The main article that defines the violation is 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

It states that if a vehicle is equipped with red headlights or reflectors of the same color, and the main lighting equipment is made of devices incompatible with the car, or is adjusted incorrectly, then this is considered a violation, which is subject to punishment in accordance with the administrative code and even threatens with deprivation of rights, although in In some cases, it can be reclassified to another paragraph of the same article for payment of a fine.

Specific clarifications regarding the recognition of xenon as illegal are contained in the clarification of the traffic police, which states that if xenon lamps are not provided for a car, then they cannot be installed there, unless the headlights are legally modified with all the approvals, after which they will become quite suitable for installation of xenon lamps and will not violate the rules, as well as dazzle drivers, this is checked using special equipment directly by independent experts.

Where to buy xenon for a motorcycle

You can purchase motoxenon in specialized stores:

  • in kits that include all the necessary equipment (headlight, lamp, lenses, ignition unit, and so on);
  • separately, that is, each device is selected separately in accordance with general recommendations.

The cost of optics for a motorcycle, scooter, etc. depends on a number of factors:

  • equipment manufacturer;
  • lamp power;
  • region of residence.

The cost of xenon headlights in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as the addresses of companies where motorcycle optics can be purchased, are presented in the table:

How to install xenon on a motorcycle

Here's what I dug up. A man tells from Ufa.

“Of course, I don’t know about you, but our guys dig right on the road if they see that the lamps do not correspond to those previously installed by the manufacturer. They also look at the exhaust pipe if tuning, then admin. protocol. In addition, it is very easy to find out what should be in the headlight according to GOST. There is a marking on the headlight glass indicating which lamp should be installed.

The category designation for halogen incandescent lamps, shown on their base or bulb, begins with the letter “H”. Gas-discharge light sources (including xenon), the category marking of which, indicated on the base, begins with the letter “D”, in accordance with the requirements of UNECE Regulation No. 99 and GOST R 41.99-99 “Uniform regulations concerning the official approval of gas-discharge sources lights for use in officially approved gas-discharge optical elements of motor vehicles" are intended for use only in headlights of types DC, DR, DCR. Based on the clarifications of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Research and Experimental Institute of Automotive Electronics and Electrical Equipment" (NIIAE), the use of light sources in external lighting devices that do not correspond to the type of the given lighting device violates the conditions for ensuring road safety due to a number of physical factors (dimensions of the spark discharge, length waves, scattering angle of reflected radiation) and technical (class of reflective surface of the reflector, presence on the vehicle of an automatic light beam corrector and headlight washer) factors. Thus, the use of gas-discharge light sources in headlights intended for use with incandescent lamps, including halogen ones, should be qualified as a discrepancy in the operating mode of external lighting devices (a set of technical characteristics of headlights corresponding to a particular light distribution that ensures road safety depending on road situation and weather conditions) to the requirements of the vehicle design. Driving a motorcycle with an unauthorized xenon lamp installed in a headlight not intended for its installation entails deprivation of the right to drive a motorcycle for a period of six months to a year with confiscation of this lamp and devices for their operation (Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). Just like that, but there is no fine - you immediately lose your license for xenon. Devices for operating xenon lamps are devices designed to ensure their functionality (ignition units and other equipment directly servicing the operation of xenon lamps). Among other things, the operation of such a motorcycle is prohibited, the state registration plate is removed until the reason for the prohibition of operation is eliminated, that is, until the lamp is replaced (Part 2 of Article 27.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).” Continuation. “But deciphering the markings on the glass is mainly for cars, but for bikes it’s the same.

Xenon on a scooter in 2021 - how to connect it correctly, installation, without altering the generator

Not every Russian, when buying a small vehicle, knows whether it is possible to install xenon on a scooter in 2018, how to do it correctly, and whether such an action is a violation of the law.

Over the past ten years, more and more drivers have chosen xenon lighting for motorcycles.

The popularity of xenon headlights is explained by the fact that after their installation, less energy is consumed. When driving in the dark, the road is illuminated much better.

In addition, xenon can be used for its intended purpose when tuning a car in the cabin. Self-installation is also possible.

Most often, xenon headlights are installed by drivers to improve the appearance of the motorcycle. The most common option is “angel eyes”.

If you combine materials wisely, you can give the appearance of a bike or scooter an aggressive or expressive look.

The driver can install xenon on a 50cc scooter independently or at a service center. The main task of xenon headlights is to illuminate the road at night. After all, the presence of light helps prevent accidents on the road.

However, the question arises whether such headlights can be used without breaking the law. It is possible if you install them correctly.

Some motorcycle manufacturers install xenon lamps during production. For scooters, you can only use regular 35-watt lamps.

There are many difficulties during installation. High-quality, branded lamps are not cheap, and installing cheap ones is a violation of safety rules.

You can use xenon from China or Korea, but you should make sure that the quality is maintained at a high level.

Necessary concepts

Terms that the owner of a moped or scooter should know:

Xenon ignition unitThis is ballast, equipment that is a component of an integral vehicle system. The unit is an electronic device and is used to start and maintain the operation of xenon arc lamps that supply head color
Xenon lampsA device that serves as a light source. The lighting flow is formed by xenon, which burns in the atmosphere by an electric arc discharge.
Scooter or scooterA special type of motorcycle. This type has the most comfortable fit. Includes recess for feet
XenonChemical element of group 18 from the periodic table. Has atomic number – 54

It is better to entrust the installation of xenon, in the absence of skills, to professionals.

Basic parameters of the ignition unit

Using the ignition unit, you can use xenon on a 150 cc scooter. Most often, ignition units with the following technical parameters are used:

Average voltage required for operation9 to 10 V
output powerAbout 36W
Minimum Voltage Required7.9 V
Peak currentUp to 7.5 Amps
Total current consumptionUp to 3.7 Amps
Temperature rangeFrom 40 to 105 degrees C

Protection is provided against voltages above 5V, as well as against sudden voltage surges or open circuits. This is one of the main advantages of xenon lamps.

The legislative framework

Regulations that must be followed when installing xenon on a scooter:

Responsibility arises under administrative legislation - the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses.

Installing xenon on a scooter

The cost of installing xenon lamps is quite high, but the advantage is that the driver can install them himself if he follows certain rules.

The main, most important point is the various variations with the base. It is necessary to choose from a variety of lamps the one that is most suitable for a particular scooter.

When choosing lamps for a moped, the driver must decide what he first wants to achieve - a beautiful appearance of the vehicle, or improved lighting quality.

How to properly connect xenon to a scooter without modifying the generator

When installing xenon on mopeds with 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines, a problem arises that the wires must be installed correctly.

The main headlight and side lights are powered by AC power. At the same time, the power of the regulator is low, and compensation for losses from the operation of xenon lamps practically does not occur.

However, the problem can be solved if you take into account some nuances during installation:

The best option is to use a 125 cc relay regulatorIt has six wires that are connected to each other in stages
When the red wire is attached to the terminalYou need to convert your scooter lighting to DC instead of AC. To do this, you need to find the wire in the connector through which the connection to the generator is made. It is usually yellow or white in color. A check should be carried out - plus ACT is supplied, after which the headlights turn on. If they light up, then the wire has been found correctly. It needs to be connected to the ignition switch, to the plus side
It must be taken into account that the entire electrical circuit is battery poweredWhen the key is turned to the ON position, the side lights and headlights can be turned on
When installing xenon, the thermistor must be turned off

Items that must be used when installing a bypass regulator for a scooter:

  1. Two 1000 V diode bridges.
  2. VTA triacs.
  3. Two diode lamps.
  4. Resistors.
  5. Zener diode.

To install xenon lamps for lighting without problems, you need to choose a suitable location for placing the capacitor.

It is best to place it away from the main circuit. You can make the connection after the entire system is installed.

The capacitor and other elements are fixed with screws on a metal plate specially designed for this purpose. The plate is fixed to the metal hood mount.

The installation process without altering the generator occurs according to the following algorithm:

First of all, you need to remove the protective plastic cover from the xenon lamp
It is not recommended to touch xenon with your handsSince such an action can lead to a decrease in shelf life or breakdown. Installation is carried out only by touching the cartridge
The lamp is inserted into one of the scooter's headlights
A standard adapter is usedMost often, it is already in the headlight. Grinding may be required. If the adapters that are in the package with the lamps have the appropriate diameter, they can be used
The next step is color adjustmentIt is necessary to decide whether it will be near or far. It is recommended to choose the far one. Taking into account the fact that the lamp is installed on the scooter 35 V, it is fixed and used for riding during daylight hours. At night it is better to use a distant color. After the choice is made, the wires are sealed
Three wires come from the ignition blockLow beam - brown wire, high beam - blue wire. The last, black wire is ground
To decide which color is best to choose and where to installYou should follow the diagram - the black wire is attached to the negative battery sensor. Then, the blue and brown wires are attached in turn
Inspection underwayThe low beam should be on and the high beam should be on
Next stageConnecting the xenon lamp directly to the scooter. First of all, check the lamp mounting. Then the wires are connected in strict order
The load-carrying resistor should not be removedIt is recommended to leave it in place and install xenon lamps. When choosing xenon, you need to make sure that it can be installed without modifying the generator

Once the installation is complete, a front and rear color test should be performed both during the day and at night to ensure that everything is connected and the system is working properly.

Advantages and disadvantages

Compared to conventional headlights, xenon has both pros and cons:

  • xenon lamp shines much brighter than conventional headlights;
  • the service life is significantly increased - almost 11 times;
  • when used correctly, high safety indicators are achieved;
  • Xenon color is closest to the solar spectrum. The driver, when driving at night, gets less tired;
  • if the lamp is working properly, it does not heat up, therefore, no damage is caused to the optical systems;
  • from a road safety perspective - xenon headlights are visible from afar, which allows other traffic participants to notice the scooter and avoid a collision
  • not on every scooter you can find a place to install an ignition unit, and without it, xenon lamps cannot work;
  • All electrical equipment originally installed in the scooter must be transferred. Otherwise, the lamps will not operate at full power;
  • Most of the work can only be done by a master electrician

Before installation, you should weigh all the pros and cons, and decide whether xenon lamps will be beneficial, or whether their installation will entail a lot of trouble.

It is necessary to carefully check the condition of the scooter, all reflective systems, as well as the headlights. They must be clean and sealed, without damage.

Features of using xenon

The principle of operation of xenon lamps is that under the influence of an electric current that passes through an inert gas, a glow occurs. It should be taken into account that the light beam that appears in the lamp is superior in its characteristics to other lighting sources.

Xenon is used for low and high beam. However, high beams can blind drivers of oncoming vehicles, which is at least unethical. Besides, it is quite dangerous !

In order to get an answer to the question of how to install xenon on a motorcycle, you should familiarize yourself with the types and parameters of lamps. Xenon lamps have three production series: H, D, HB. H series lamps have a light temperature from 3000 to 8000 K. Depending on the light temperature, lamps have various applications. They are installed in low beam, high beam, and fog lights. The D series is used primarily for low beam. HB series lamps are used quite rarely because they have a high light temperature.

The installation of xenon in headlights for halogen lamps is prohibited by law due to the fact that such lamps blind oncoming drivers. The use of xenon is only possible if these are either factory headlights designed specifically for this purpose, or modified ones that meet the requirements.

Installing xenon in headlights with special reflectors and lenses will not be visually very different from halogen headlights, but the quality of lighting will be higher. One of the conditions for using motoxenon is that the headlights must always be clean, since if there is dirt, the light refraction mechanism changes and the lamp will dazzle.

As promised, in continuation of the post about installing a bi-xenon lens in the headlight of my “new” BMW R1100RS, I will describe how to properly connect everything with the power and control circuits, without putting a strain on the standard wiring, and also prevent power loss on the ignition unit at the moment of switching the light from near to far and vice versa. Since everything has already been chewed many, many times, I will be brief. What is the essence of the problem: a standard 55 Watt lamp consumes (55 Watt / 12 Volts = 5 Amperes) 5 Amperes, and at the moment the lamp is ignited, the current consumption practically does not increase. The xenon lamp ignition unit can consume up to 20 Amperes at the moment of switching on!!! Of course, this consumption is short-term, but it can also lead to heating of the wiring and burning of switch contacts. Therefore, it would not be the best choice to connect the ignition unit directly to the contacts of the lamp block, no matter how fast and easy this method may seem.

The correct solution would be to use power (or run a separate new one from the battery, or connect to an existing one) wiring, and use the contacts on the block to control the power supply. To implement such a scheme, a simple device called a relay is intended (I described everything about the relay in detail in the post about installing heated handles). Let me briefly repeat - a relay is, in fact, a remote switch that closes the power circuit after power is supplied to the control contacts (this power can be supplied through low-current circuits). A typical automotive relay can switch circuits with a current consumption of 32A or even more. And not just for a short time, but permanently. I hope you have figured out the relay, and how to provide power to the ignition unit too.

The next task is to prevent power loss when switching from low beam to high beam and vice versa. Since we are talking about connecting to block H4, this usually means that at the moment of transition the circuit is broken, and even if a relay is used, the ignition unit will turn off and turn on again. What does this mean? It’s difficult to say, but most likely this will have an extremely negative impact on its service life. It is also possible that he will be able to “light” the lamp after switching and will have to completely turn off the light and turn it off again, and something else may come out. On the forums I saw proposals to put a jumper in the remote control from near to far - this will eliminate the problem of power failure, but a relay will still be required, so why not solve all the issues at once. Moreover, it is easy and simple to do.

I will describe a case with my particular motorcycle. In my BMW R1100RS there is one common PLUS per block and 2 MINUSES - for low and high beam. This scheme is called “Minus control”. How to determine: take a multimeter, put it in DC voltage measurement mode, find the plus - a black probe on the frame, a red one in each contact in turn and in each position click the light switch, although according to the standard the contacts should be located like this:

If a value of 12V or so appears on the screen, this means that this is a positive contact in the block. If there is 1 such contact, and the other two do not give “indications,” this is control by minus. If there are 2 positive contacts, control is positive. The general schemes for both cases look like this:

Operating principle: Control by PLUS - after turning on the light (low or high), the circuit is closed at contacts 85 and 86 on the relay (control contacts), and the capacitor also begins to charge. Diodes on the circuits are needed so that when the neighbor is turned on, the lens curtain does not fall down. When the light is switched, the circuit on the block is broken, but the charge of the capacitor is enough to keep the relay on until the circuit closes in the new position of the light switch.

Control by MINUS - everything is basically the same, only the circuit is simpler - you only need 1 diode.

The circuit itself can be assembled on a car relay by soldering a capacitor and diodes to the necessary contacts, but doing this beautifully is quite problematic (the photo is not mine, may its authors forgive me for using their creation as an example: o) )

I assembled everything based on a simple printed circuit board, which is easy to make at home. I described my experience in this post about LED brake lights.

As a relay, I took a compact 5-pin relay with mounting in the holes of the board. According to the performance characteristics, it switches up to 20A at a voltage of 12V, which is more than enough. I used a 2200 uF capacitor (whatever it was). For maximum compactness, I used an SMD type diode. The board diagram looks like this:

To fasten the contacts, I used screw terminals, which allow me to secure a cable with a cross-section of up to 1.5 mm2. Textolite is one-sided, with a foil layer thickness of 35 microns.

Contacts in order (from left to right): 1. Power circuit – output “+12V” to the ignition unit 2. Power circuit – incoming contact “+12V” from the battery 3. Input “-far” / output “- to curtain” (combined ) 4. Input “- near” 5. Output “+ to the curtain” 6. Input “+ from block H4”.

After assembly everything looks like this:

Size of the finished module (LxW): 36x31 mm. Despite the width of the tracks and the thickness of the foil layer, I additionally soldered copper wire with a cross-section of 1.5 mm2 on the power circuits.

In the future, everything will be packed in heat shrink tube. I haven’t installed it on the motorcycle yet, because I still can’t pick it up from the service center - I’m waiting for the inlet pipes to be laid from England; there weren’t any of those in Russia.

As always, I will welcome constructive comments, suggestions and motivated criticism.

Thank you for attention.

Happy upcoming holiday, happy day of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the 2nd World War. Glory to the heroes, eternal memory to the fallen and long, happy years of life to all our dear and respected veterans. Low bow to them. Take care of the world.

Advantages and disadvantages of installing xenon

Advantages of using xenon:

  • The lamps have an emission spectrum that is as close as possible to daylight, which affects the comfort of sensations.
  • The service life is significantly longer than other types of lighting. A xenon lamp is guaranteed to work for 2000 hours, while for a halogen lamp this figure is 1000 hours.
  • Xenon lamps have a beneficial effect on the driver's vision; they do not lead to fatigue from prolonged driving at night.
  • High cost of purchasing and installing the kit.
  • The need for a powerful energy source.
  • Need an ignition unit.
  • The heating temperature should not exceed 4800 K.
  • Certain difficulties during installation.

How to install xenon on a scooter and motorcycle

A xenon kit for a motorcycle consists of one lamp and an ignition unit. There are no differences between xenon for cars and motorcycles. In all respects, these are identical lighting devices. The process of installing xenon is quite complex, since it comes down to more than just replacing incandescent lamps. An ignition unit must be installed. The quality of the lighting and its service life depend on how well the installation is done.

The difficulty of installing xenon on a bike is that it requires a certain amount of space, which is often not available on a motorcycle. To solve this problem, ultra-thin ignition units that do not take up much space. When choosing the color temperature of motoxenon, you should not exceed 5000 K. This is the most optimal option for various weather conditions. Higher temperatures have proven to be ineffective in difficult weather conditions. And since riding a motorcycle becomes more difficult in rain or fog, inadequate lighting can cause an accident.

When installing motoxenon, a number of problems arise. Firstly, you need free space to place the ignition unit. Secondly, many lamps have a base designed for cars, and this requires additional modifications. A negative result of the “rework” may be depressurization of the system.

Thirdly, the motorcycle reacts more strongly to shaking and in a situation where the system is not completely sealed, the unit may not withstand the level of vibration. When installing xenon yourself, you should pay attention to such points as: choosing a unit in accordance with the size of the free space and ensuring complete tightness of the equipment .
If necessary, a voltage stabilizer should be supplied.

Installing xenon on a 50cc scooter (using the example of the Daelim S-Five scooter)

So, my goal was to install xenon on my 50cc scooter.
Fifty dollars, with a non-standard headlight lamp socket (ba20d) and a characteristic power system: the headlight runs directly from the generator, and the battery is charged from a separate small winding. 1. Generator The first thing that needs to be modified before moving on to a new regulator is to modify the generator itself. To do this, using a special puller, remove the generator bell, and behind it the windings themselves:

We go to the radio market, having previously collected a certain amount of banknotes.

List of necessary elements for a new shunt regulator: - Diode bridges KBPC5010 50A 1000V. I used 2 of them, just in case. - triacs VTA 26-600 (2 pcs) - two diodes. I took fast BYW 29-200 7.5A 200B - zener diode 13V/14V/15V - 1.3 Watt. The right one is selected experimentally. — resistors 30 Ohm 1W – 2 pcs. 200 Ohm 1W – 1 pc. - capacitor 25V 47000uF 1 piece - radiator - thermal paste and all sorts of other little things

I polished the surfaces of the diode bridges and the radiator for better heat transfer:

There are 4 wires on the terminal block that connected to the old regulator: red, white, green, yellow. 3. Refinement of wiring Dimensions, dashboard lighting, starting enrichment, carburetor heating (if equipped) - everything that was previously powered directly from the generator now needs to be switched to power from the battery, as additional loads.

Lights, dimensions, instrument lighting: we bite off the yellow wire going from the generator to the light switch/switch. Well insulated. Instead, we supply +12V from the ignition switch to the switch, which appears when the key is turned to the ON position (don’t worry about the load on the lock - the instrument lighting, side lights, etc. are a minor load, and the xenon will still be powered directly from battery From the lock (from the old terminals going to the lamp) only the relay for xenon will be controlled.

We connect the starting enrichment and carburetor heating via a button, similar to +12V, which appears when the ignition is turned on. Or in any other way, depending on how you want to implement heating control.

And check that there should be no load left between the generator and the new regulator on the yellow and white wires (change). 4. Bi-xenon itself In my case, I used a Venture bi-xenon lamp with a color temperature of 6000K (actual 5000K, when tested on a bench) and an H4 base, a ProLumen M1P35 ignition unit. The choice of lamp is due to the fact that the lamps from the Chinese manufacturer Venture produce clear, well-focused high beams. Bi-xenon lamps from other manufacturers often have problems with this. Although a lot still depends on the optics. But I emphasize that this only applies to bi-xenon lamps and is due to the specifics and nuances in their design:

— White, yellow – this is the alternating output from the generator. We connect these 2 wires to the input of our regulator circuit.

— Red, green – “+” and “-”, respectively, going to the battery and the entire power system. We connect the output wires from the new voltage regulator to them.

ProLumen blocks are small-sized, thin, and do not create problems with placement in a limited space under the plastic of a scooter. Production - Korea. The best solution for installation on motorcycles in terms of price/quality/size.

The Venture bi-xenon lamps also come with a relay (unfortunately, not small*), wiring with fuses:

* — For comparison, with ProLumen bi-xenon lamps, the relay is separate for each lamp and more compact, and not double as in the case of the Venture lamp.

In order to strengthen the lamp in the reflector, it was first necessary to expand the hole for the lamp in the reflector, literally by 1 mm:

But there will not be a single solution for all scooters. You need to improvise and come up with the most reliable way to mount the lamp relative to the reflector.

The ignition and relay unit was secured on top of the new regulator (on the other side of the metal extension from the frame) using strong double-sided tape and zip ties:

I immediately advise you to tighten the terminal blocks for the fuses because... With vibrations from the engine, which are typical for scooters, the light may twitch if the contact is not clear.

Connection: We connect the terminal blocks that were previously connected to the lamp to a special plug coming from the relay:

Common motorcycle headlights

On vehicles such as a motorcycle, the light source can be xenon headlights. Quite common today are incandescent lamps, metal hydride lamps, LED lamps, and laser headlights are quite interesting. By the way, it is the latter type of lamps that is advantageous for the BMW company. Soon they plan to equip all their equipment with such devices. As for xenon headlights, they have become a standard that is used everywhere. Today, xenon for motorcycles is especially common.

Xenon headlights

Xenon for a motorcycle and a car has one feature that is common to both options - an arc that glows and is located in the bulb. It is filled with a special gas called xenon, hence the name of the headlight being described. It is precisely such a device that provides light that is closest in its characteristics to daylight.

By the way, such devices were invented before World War II. It is worth noting that they began to be widely used on cars and motorcycles in the early 90s of the last century.

Another feature of xenon is its service life - it is longer, unlike analogues of this lamp.

How to replace a scooter headlight bulb

A procedure such as replacing a light bulb in a scooter headlight can be done even by inexperienced owners. Replacing the light bulb is necessary in a number of cases when operating the scooter at night becomes impossible, uninformative or dangerous. Among the main prerequisites for this, the following should be highlighted:

  • The low beam filament is burnt out.
  • The high beam filament is burnt out.
  • The low and high beams on the scooter do not work.
  • The light bulb contacts are melted or damaged.

Let's proceed directly to replacing the light bulb in the scooter's headlight:

  1. We install the scooter on the central support.
  2. We remove the head part of the scooter's trim (if the headlight is located in the steering part) or the front plastic (if the headlight is located below). Sometimes you will need to unscrew the mirrors.
  3. The light bulb is often installed in the reflector on the reverse side. The design usually involves installing a light bulb in a reflector along with a socket, using a spring-loaded element and antennae. To dismantle, just press on the cartridge and turn the structure clockwise or counterclockwise.
  4. We install the new light bulb in place in the same way. As stated above, it is imperative to adhere to the power rating specified by the manufacturer. When using halogen lamps, touching the bulb with bare hands is not allowed. Use a dry cloth or the protective polyethylene cap included with the lamp.
  5. The reflector usually has the same design with the front plastic of the steering wheel, which, in turn, is simply attached to the steering wheel and the reverse plastic with latches, screws and bolts. Collecting all the elements is very simple.
  6. We check the operation of the lamp and the scooter is ready for use.

Xenon for your motorcycle

Installing xenon is a fairly promising idea. Technologies today are developing rapidly and bring great efficiency. Thus, high-end vehicles today have LED headlights, but even they are gradually being replaced by xenon ones. Therefore, installing xenon on a motorcycle is quite a popular procedure today. The advantages of this type of headlights include fairly high brightness, low energy consumption, and long operation.

It is impossible not to mention fog lights, which are distinguished in certain classes. They, just like xenon ones, are quite easy to use. If used correctly, they will provide you with perfect visibility on the road.

Xenon on a scooter - how to install, where to buy, advantages, disadvantages

Immediately after the creation of xenon, it gained incredible popularity due to its exceptional brightness characteristics and, as a disadvantage, high energy consumption.
Any self-respecting automaker currently equips its cars with various modifications of xenon lamps in order to keep up with the times and not lose its position in the market. Everyone knows that at night it is impossible to get the same view of the road as during the day. Hence, a lot of accidents happen at night. This point is especially important for scooter owners, since standard lighting on a scooter (usually a regular 35w bulb or two bulbs of lower power) cannot provide even half of the required indicator. Installing xenon on a scooter will help solve absolutely all problems with lighting, but not everyone can afford it, both financially and technically. Before we move on to the practice of installing xenon on a scooter, let's determine the main advantages and disadvantages of xenon on a scooter , and also find out whether it is necessary to install xenon on your scooter, whether you need it at all.

Separate classes of lamps

Separate classes of lamps include daytime running lights. As for Europe, they have been used here for a long time, but in the CIS countries they appeared on sale relatively recently. Today they are spelled out in all documents.

Why do you need this type of headlights? They are necessary in order to maximize the visibility of a car or motorcycle during daylight hours. Quite often, such material is confused with so-called dimensions, but this should not be done.

Many car manufacturing companies have long adopted such headlights and supply their models only with them. As for motorcycle manufacturers, they have only just begun to use them more widely. And this is quite strange, because we all know how bikers like to install a lot of headlights, right down to the handlebars of the motorcycle. All this is done to attract attention to your product. It is worth remembering that such headlights must be taken care of and turned off in time.

Xenon installation

The question of how to install xenon on a motorcycle is asked by many people who want to have this type of headlights. And this is not strange, because they definitely live up to expectations. Such headlights will improve both road illumination and the personal safety of the driver. Xenon for a motorcycle is perfectly visible to other drivers at any time of the day.

Xenon for a motorcycle has a large number of differences from the HID installation. For example, you cannot install an incomplete xenon kit on your vehicle. It is also worth knowing that some kits do not apply to motorcycles, and their installation is not advisable.

For this reason, the consumer needs to choose kits that have thin ignition blocks. These are the ones that are intended for installation on a particular motorcycle.

Xenon for a motorcycle, the price of which is quite low (within 2,000 rubles per set) and at the same time justified, is gaining more and more popularity in its field of activity.
