Yamaha YBR125 - profile view

YBR125 is quite common in Russia and Ukraine. In 2010, the 4th generation of this series was released. The motorcycle is now equipped with an injector. Received some appearance changes with the addition of side plastic and a round headlight. Unfortunately, at the moment, the fourth generation is not supplied to Russia and Ukraine.

It copes with its functions wonderfully. It’s easy to quickly get from point A to point B through traffic jams. The high-spirited 125 cc engine allows you to accelerate to speeds of up to 120 km per hour. More is possible, but the engine will wear out.

As for gluttony, even the most economical engines will envy it. The Yamaha R125 consumes only 3 liters per 100 km during moderate driving and up to 4.5 liters when driving at high speeds. There is no need to prove that the motorcycle copes well with the function of quickly moving around the city and beyond, this is already obvious.

YBR125 – a combination of the best characteristics?

The small-capacity single-cylinder engine of the Yamaha YBR 125 has a pleasant velvety sound, which is not annoying during long rides. Vibrations during operation are practically not felt - a definite plus.

As for the technical characteristics of the Yamaha YBR125, it has a vigorous four-stroke engine and a five-speed gearbox. The developers did their best and made the engine not only durable, but also fast, when compared with other motorcycles of a similar series from other companies. In addition, the fuel injection system was thoroughly developed. Now the YBR125 will not consume more than necessary, even if you are driving at the highest possible speed.

The motorcycle was transformed in detail and improved in the third generation. But there is no limit to perfection, and in the last, fourth generation, almost the entire appearance was radically redesigned. Also, the developers have worked on the chassis, which significantly increases the level of handling of the motorcycle. The suspension has been improved, making it softer and more comfortable.

Safety on this motorcycle has not been overlooked either. The creators of the Yamaha YBR 125 equipped the motorcycle with brake discs at the front and the usual drum brakes at the rear. Thanks to the brake disc, braking occurs smoothly and even in the most emergency situation, you can always brake safely and efficiently.

This motorcycle can be loaded with up to 200 kg (taking into account a full tank of gasoline), and a two-seater seat will allow the driver and passenger to move comfortably. Even if both have a weight of 90-100, the motorcycle will still cope perfectly with the goal.

Yamaha YBR125 - dashboard

On the third and fourth generations of YAMAHA YBR125, the dashboard is not left unattended. A convenient, laconic, but at the same time, informative device, which has everything that is so necessary.

Yamaha has been famous for its high-quality motorcycle products for more than 50 years. The YBR125 was made with love and care. High-quality driving without visiting a service station is guaranteed even after 10 thousand km.

Features of the bike and its modernization

The motor is omnivorous. Consumes almost any fuel and oil. The main thing is that the lubricant needs to be changed at least once every 4 thousand km.

The chain should be changed after 5-8 thousand km.

The pendulum bushings make themselves known with a creaking sound after 8 thousand km.

The rear wheel axle makes a reasonable protest against operation, crossing the line 20 thousand km.

Steering column bearings can travel 40 thousand km or more. The rear wheel bearings have a similar service life; the front ones travel twice as long.

The modernization of equipment took place in several stages:

  1. 2004-2006
  2. 2007-2008
  3. 2009-2010

Initially, Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycles were equipped with a simple carburetor design with a Mikuni cylindrical throttle body. The model entered Russian territory only with plastic front fairings and a trapezoid-shaped headlight.

The paw was uncomfortable, or rather its location. Initially, the bike was equipped with Sakura tube tires. Its performance was far from ideal; the tires wore out quickly.

In the second phase of the 125, the Yamaha YBR model changed its ergonomics, focusing on adult riders. We expanded the color range and changed the plastic. Among the technical innovations, we note the increased length of the transition pedal from one gear to another position, an economical vacuum carburetor equipped with a choke rod. We took the comments into account: we installed the gearbox foot slightly higher than in the original version.

The third generation of the legendary Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycle model is characterized by new five-spoke wheels with tubeless tires. Specialists installed a new front brake caliper.

Now, for safety reasons, the low beam required by Euro 3 requirements is constantly on on the motorcycle. The designers decided to install an old, simple carburetor with fuel heating: Mikuni VM 22X1.

A side stand sensor and a fuel afterburner appeared. The gasoline filter has changed its location. New tubeless tires were installed on the motorcycle: ChengShin/C-910 in front, ChengShin/C-905 in the rear. Updated mirrors and rear corners appeared. The designers changed the position of the steering wheel lock, leaving a one-sided position. A new DID chain with X-ring seals can last up to 18 thousand km.

The third generation of the Yamaha YBR 125 now features a new chainring and brake pads located at the front.

The fourth generation has certain innovations and tweaks. Those who bought a motorcycle in 2004 should not worry - there are few differences and only experienced bikers can notice the difference.

Firstly, these are brake discs, which have not six, but five mounting bolts. The design of the rims has changed: previously they had three spokes, now they have 5.

The current generation motorcycle has acquired a new form of mirrors, and the rear turns have changed. There are two wires going to the carburetor, covered with a metal arc so as not to touch them with your foot. The carburetor now has heating, which, according to the manufacturer’s idea, should make starting easier at sub-zero temperatures.

Gone is the lever that turned on the light. Now it's all automated. Today, in connection with the transition to Euro-4 standards, engineers have developed a new power unit that satisfies air purity fighters.

Photo: the power unit is able to withstand almost any abuse, up to moderate overdrive.

YBR125 - owner reviews

Review of YBR125 from user Dilex from the portal moto.infocar.ua:

Screenshot of a review of the Yamaha YBR-125 motorcycle.

As for reviews, according to statistics, more than 80% of them are positive. Also, based on statistics, we can say that the motorcycle was least registered in various types of accidents, when compared, again, with competitors or other series of Yamaha motorcycle products. Here's an example:

Of course, like other small-capacity motorcycles, the YAMAHA YBR125 has a significant drawback - low speed. Of course, this product is designed for moderate and relatively quiet driving, but it quickly gets boring. Unfortunately, you can’t squeeze more than 130 km out of it. In addition, the downside is that the motorcycle is relatively small in size and therefore a male weighing 100-120 kg will look on it like a toy. In fact, there are no more disadvantages as such. But they are easily forgiven, because this class of motorcycles should be small with a relatively low speed.

Personal experience

Yamaha ybr 125 is popularly known as “yobrik”. I was lucky enough to learn all the basics of riding a motorcycle on it. My height is 190 cm, and my weight is around 80 kg, and I will say that I felt quite comfortable on it. I had to drive not only to a special training ground, but also in the city after receiving my license. The seating position is straight, so your back and arms do not get tired during long rides. In terms of weight and handling, it feels like a bicycle, very maneuverable. Traffic jams? Yes, there are no traffic jams for him, he managed to squeeze into almost every gap between cars, where some sports could not fit. You can really say about him: if you drive more quietly, you will continue. It doesn't accelerate very quickly, nor does it have a high top speed, but it's easy and comfortable to ride. I would compare it with Nokia 3310 only among motorcycles. And it’s quite simple to operate; you don’t need to disassemble the floor of the motorcycle to get to the part you need. So it can definitely be considered as a first motorcycle for a beginner.

Finally

By creating the Yamaha YBR125, the developers hit the bull's eye. Ten years since its debut in Brazil, the bike has confidently remained at the top of the sales charts in many countries around the world. Apparently, he is not going to give up his leading position.

Some see it as a moped, others as a universal bike, and still others as a fighter against urban congestion. But most owners are very satisfied with their “iron horse”.

People call the Yamaha YBR 125 - simply “Yubrik”, or “Yubr-125” - considering it a reliable, modern lightweight device. Even those people who have ridden it for a relatively short time speak positively about it, saying that this Japanese “horse” will not let you down.

For those who are interested in the Yamaha YBR125 motorcycle, we recommend visiting the forums and watching a video about the bike’s capabilities. We hope that the information provided will help you appreciate the Yamaha YBR125 motorcycle with a small cubic capacity, good luck on the roads!

Disadvantages of Yamaha YBR 125

Not cool enough

The Yamaha YBR 125 is by no means a super cool bike. This is an ordinary, simple motorcycle for beginners. Girls on the roads will not stare at you, and any nearby chopper or sportbike will easily outshine you. So just learn to ride without falling, and on the next motorcycle you’ll be able to show off.

Not comfortable on long trips

Ebrik is good when driving in the city, but when driving on the highway it becomes uncomfortable. Firstly, you won’t be able to accelerate faster than 110 kilometers, and secondly, you will probably be blown away by gusts of wind from passing cars, since the motorcycle is very light.

The optimal speed on the highway for this motorcycle is 90 km/h. And by the way, overtaking cars will be problematic, because the motorcycle accelerates very slowly at this speed.

The optimal speed on the highway for this motorcycle is 90 km/h.

It turned out that in order to prepare a dish that can satisfy the gastronomic needs of absolutely diverse and versatile people, ultra-modern technologies and exotic delights of famous restaurant chefs are not at all required. For most, the fundamental principle is still “cheap and cheerful.” How else can we explain that the simple and unpretentious “octagonal” Yamaha YBR125 sold in Europe alone with a circulation exceeding 75 thousand copies? And it’s impossible to count how many of them were sold in Asia and Latin America. Yes, yes, exactly Latin America. After all, the recipe for motorcycle “fast food” appeared in 2000 thanks to the Brazilian branch of the Yamaha Motor do Brasil corporation and was originally intended for the local Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking market: a two-valve single-shaft “single-barrel”, a simple steel frame, minimally sufficient brake mechanisms, simple suspension. Just what you need! The demand for the Yamaha YBR125 was so great that assembly of the model was also organized in Mexico and Colombia. And in 2003, they were joined by a joint venture with the Chinese company Jianshe Industries Co., Ltd in Southeast Asia. It was from there that the lion's share of these motorcycles subsequently came to Europe. It came to Russia even earlier than European countries - in 2004. In general, various modifications of the Yamaha YBR125 for different markets differ significantly from each other: place of production, plastic hitch, brakes, headlights, wheels, power systems. We were imported exclusively carburetor motorcycles from China with a rectangular headlight and a plastic half-fairing. These are what we will mainly be talking about.

Which motorcycle should I take after the Yamaha EBR 125?

It is enough to skate one season on an ebrike to prepare for more serious equipment. Most likely, in the process of skating you will understand what is closer to you in spirit. However, you shouldn’t immediately switch to a heavy-duty bike; it’s better to opt for a motorcycle with a capacity of up to 1000 cc. cm. This will be enough for a full ride in any conditions, and you will be comfortable handling the new motorcycle.

If you like to ride fast and get off quickly, then you should choose a sportbike. If you like long trips, then you should pay attention to comfortable touring motorcycles. For those who like to ride off-road, enduro is suitable. And for relaxed trips around the city, a chopper would be an ideal option.

Everyone has their own tastes and lifestyle, but it’s still better to choose universal, simple models as your first motorcycle.
