In TVS Apache

This is a motorcycle brand made by TVS Motors since 2006. In 2008, the company claimed that more than 2.5 million Apaches were on the move.[1] The company currently sells five variants of the TVS Apache. The differences between each variant include engine size, options offered and performance characteristics. The abbreviation "RTR" in motorcycle names stands for "Racing Throttle Response".[2]

Story

TVS, in partnership with Suzuki, has launched several two-stroke motorcycles in India over a period of 19 years. As the country's emission norms changed, there was a need for more efficient use of fuel and less pollution. four-stroke motorcycles suddenly appeared. However, Suzuki at that time was known worldwide as a manufacturer of two-stroke motorcycles and did not have serious research and development in the field of four-stroke engines. All this led to the late launch of the Legend TVS-Suzuki Fiero in 2000, specially designed for the Indian market.[3][4]

At that time, a market for small displacement motorcycles also emerged in India, which may be due to the success of the model. Hero Honda CBZ.[5] The Suzuki Fiero, a relatively powerful motorcycle in its segment, was well received.[6] After TVS and Suzuki split in 2001, TVS continued producing the Fiero and its variants called TVS Fiero, TVS Fiero FX.[7][8]

In 2005, to enter the 150 cc engine category in India, which was then dominated by the Bajaj Pulsar, TVS introduced the TVS Apache 150 IE-Surge,[9] the first of the TVS Apache series of motorcycles. It was an in-house product of TVS. R&D which included many changes to their existing Fiero 147 cc Engine and as a result increased power output to 13.5 PS. hp from 12 hp and better efficiency. There were also major improvements to the design, suspension, brakes, frame and styling. The company stated that the Apache has the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class and is the fastest for this reason.[9]

The successors and current variants of the TVS Apache have engines based on the same platform, but have significant design improvements such as the square engine,[10]4-valve,[11]balancer shaft;[12]technical advances such as oil cooling, [12] air cooling[13] (not to be confused with an outboard air intake), fuel injection[11][13] and performance improvements.[14] However, the TVS Apache RR 310 is an exception and is based on the BMW G310R.[15]

In February 2021, the Apache RTR 160 4V variant with ABS was announced, and the ABS version of the older Apache RTR 160 was launched on February 28.[16]In January 2021, the TVS variant of the Apache RR 310 was launched in India with a BSVI-compliant engine. .[17]

Owner reviews

The Apache 150 ATV is characterized by its owners as a maneuverable model. This is facilitated by the special tire tread pattern, as well as the high suspension. In addition, wide tires provide high cross-country ability of the ATV. The device overcomes all kinds of obstacles on the road, remains stable on potholes, snowy surfaces, shifting sand or swampy forest soil.

Thanks to this versatility, the ATV has a wide range of applications. It is suitable for outdoor activities, work in the field, transportation of goods and people. This ATV is in great demand among fishermen and hunters. Apache 150 allows you to transport everything you need for outdoor activities. With the insignificant weight of the ATV itself, its carrying capacity is sufficient for most tasks.

The effective braking system stands out in particular. It increases driver safety by instantly stopping the car. The operation of the braking system does not depend on the characteristics of the working fluid and the heating of the ATV.

The Apache 150 frame was also noted, which is particularly durable. High-quality assembly ensures a significant service life of the device. There are no even minor flaws in the design. The machine can withstand small and medium impacts, and there are not even dents left on its surfaces.

One of the positive characteristics of the Apache 150 AVM is the relatively low level of toxic emissions due to minimal fuel consumption.

Operating experience

In operation, the Apache 150 ATV demonstrates good dynamic performance. This is a reliable horse with good power and maneuverability. When driving on different routes, the model demonstrates high cross-country ability. Wheels do not spin on dirt, gravel or clay. But the car will be able to show all its delights only on relatively flat and hard roads, for example, on asphalt or concrete.

The engine power is enough to transport cargo and ride with a passenger. The motor also allows you to easily overcome various obstacles, for example, bumps, potholes, and potholes on the road. The model can be used both on public roads and off-road. This is a pretty fast and versatile ATV.

Drivers claim that everything in the Apache 150 is done very well. Many people like the information dashboard. Fuel consumption is minimal. With average frequency of use, a full fuel tank lasts for a week.

Thanks to its excellent handling, the ATV behaves predictably and keeps its course well. It is able to easily overcome difficult areas while maintaining stability. At any speed, the brakes do their job perfectly.

Repair and tuning

When purchasing a new Apache 150 ATV, repairs are carried out free of charge by the manufacturer. But if desired, the vehicle owner can perform additional tuning. The manufacturer offers the installation of a rear or front rack as such options.

You can replace the speedometer. Instead of a standard device, a model with an electronic operating principle is installed. You can also additionally install an engine hour sensor and additional rear-view mirrors, which will make driving comfortable and safe. If you plan to travel on the roads, you should think about brake lights.

If repairs are required after the warranty period has expired, the necessary parts can be found on the market. If you wish, you can replace components and parts yourself. For the presented model, not only original parts are suitable, but also similar spare parts from Chinese cars. The components are inexpensive, so the owner can save a lot on maintenance.

ABM Apache 150 ATV

The ABM Apache 150 ATV is a product of the domestic company ABM, specializing in the mass production of various motor vehicles.
This manufacturer has been on the all-terrain vehicle market since 1996. The company's products cannot be called completely original, since many components are provided by Chinese manufacturers, however, the quality of the models produced is quite high. The AVM Apache 150 ATV has large wheels with a wide tread pattern, which, together with a high suspension, provides the vehicle with good maneuverability, as well as impressive cross-country ability. The model is capable of overcoming almost any road obstacles, including bumpy fields, snowy terrain, shifting sand, and swampy forest areas. The ATV has a wide range of applications; it can be used both for active recreation and for any kind of work. It should be noted that this model is now in greatest demand among hunters and fishermen. With its low structural weight, the ATV has a load capacity of 280 kilograms, which significantly expands its technical capabilities.

The model has two starting systems for the power plant, namely an electric starter or a kickstarter, which is, in principle, typical of other modern and not only ATVs. Driving safety is ensured by an effective braking system, the operation of which does not depend on the heating of equipment and working fluid.

One of the key features of the AVM Apache 150 ATV is a reduced level of toxic emissions during operation and increased fuel efficiency at a fairly affordable cost. Due to this, the model stands out on the market among a large number of its analogues.

One day my friend Igor said: “Yurt!” Take my motorcycle for review. He’s so cool) But I remembered that he was this same moped, I didn’t even like him very much! Seemed like some kind of Ketai shit, etc. Stalled, farted, didn’t drive, and the like!

To which Igoryan said, “Don’t piss, Yurok!” I washed the carb on it over the winter, repaired it, and changed the diaphragm on it. And now APCHHI (that’s what Igoryan lovingly calls his motorcycle) drove off angrily)))) Well, what about me, I’m ready to check it out! Which is what I did, showing up to him early one morning!

And off we go! Or rather, I went) On this cool red motorcycle. The first impression of him was SURPRISE! Well, it’s real) There is acceleration, the brakes work as they should and do not creak)))) The only thing that spoiled the picture was the steering bearing - the steering wheel jammed in the middle and in the extreme positions - ABSOLUTELY HARD.

I drove the motorcycle in different modes both in the city on asphalt and on dirt roads. Curbs, stone, sand and other delights. Very cool feeling. Motik did not pass anywhere! Climbed steep climbs, jumped off curbs and fell on the BACK)))

Test drive AlfamotoApache 200

My first “confrontation” with this bike took place in its historical homeland – China*. That day, the test “menu” was very extensive, and against the backdrop of very interesting examples of the Chinese motorcycle industry, the 200 cc “stunted” did not make much of an impression on me. Yes, it looked pretty good, rode well and was well built... but it didn't impress. The second acquaintance took place in Ukraine and lasted for six months. But first things first.

The Lifan YK200 is the heir to the tradition established by the Yamaha YBR125. This is a lightweight city motorcycle, designed to quickly get through traffic jams and minimize the owner's financial gain. And, in fact, that’s all.

Unfortunately, many owners of such equipment misunderstand the message of the creators. A similar bike can easily be seen galloping along a rural dirt road with a load of: a 100-kilogram summer resident, a 100-kg summer resident’s wife and three bags of potatoes. The other extreme is young racers who strive to boost the engine in every possible way and set speed records. The result of both extremes is the rapid transformation of the motorcycle into a pile of scrap metal and another topic on the motorcycle forum in the style of “China is shit.” I won’t hide it, I thought so too, and was ready to desperately kick myself in the chest with my heel, proving that buying Chinese is the same as drinking vodka without pi... sorry, throwing money away. I haven’t understood Chinese philosophy yet.

Do you know why Chinese motorcycles cause disdainful “fuck” from owners of Chinese phones? An expensive modern bike is a thing that is very far from the concepts of practicality and utilitarianism, unlike the same teapot. But still, there are such teapot motorcycles. Therefore, they need to be assessed accordingly. You won’t demand a carbon body and the ability to connect a steam turbine from your kettle, will you?

An ordinary morning. It’s too early for the crowds of motorists rushing to work to disperse, but at the same time, too late for them to have time to get through the half-empty city before them. Anticipating a not-so-pleasant time among the canned cars stuck in traffic jams, I decided, as an experiment, to ride not on the usual KTM 990 Adventure, but on a tiny Lifan YK200, which looked like a starving donkey against the backdrop of the tall Austrian stallion.

The “Chinese” engine started from the first push on the starter button and began to warm up. Since the revs were a bit low, I turned the choke lever and... the engine stalled. Well, okay, get warm, I thought, not eager to deal with the carburetor. Finally, the single-cylinder 200 warmed up and ran more smoothly. The exhaust sound is quiet and indistinct, but without the annoying metallic notes that are present in most small-capacity vehicles with standard mufflers.

The landing triangle of the steering wheel-seat-footpegs is made according to the canons of road classics, and all the levers, paws and switches are where you would expect to see them. While my arms and legs were getting used to it, the “fifth point” reported that the seat was moderately soft and of the correct shape - I could coexist with this for quite a long time.

Thanks to the low seat height (790 mm) and modest weight (curb weight - 138 kg), the bike is suitable even for small people. But for riders whose height and weight are more than 180 cm and 80 kg, the motorcycle will seem like a children's bike...

The instrument panel looks simple, but provides all the necessary information, and even reports the number of the gear engaged. Thanks to the free layout of all indicators, one quick glance is enough to “read” all the data. The mirrors, on the contrary, aroused my distrust - while standing still, it seemed that, due to their complex shape, they were “cutting off” important sectors of the rear view.

Okay, let's go! A fair amount of time has passed since the test drive in China, so I had to get acquainted with the behavior of the motorcycle again. The first thing that was felt and pleasantly surprised was the reaction of the engine. This is a very common CG-series engine (163FML) in China, which is installed on every tenth Pepelats. In this case, it works in tandem with a carburetor, which is equipped with an accelerator pump** - this is rarely seen on a “civilian” budget motorcycle. Thanks to this, when the gas is opened sharply, there is no characteristic dip in thrust.

According to the passport, the engine should produce 16 hp. at 8000 rpm and 14 Nm at 6500 rpm. It seemed to me that such indicators were achieved earlier. In any case, the engine has good low-end thrust and a surprisingly juicy mid-range, but by 8000 rpm (and about 110 km/h), it begins to shake as if in an epileptic fit. When I first felt this, I gave up all attempts to check the maximum speed for fear that the motorcycle would crumble right on the road.

According to the manufacturer's description, the Lifan YK200 engine is equipped with a balancing shaft, which most successfully combats vibrations in the range of 4-6 thousand rpm (a subtle hint at the optimal operating mode of the engine), which corresponds to 50-80 km/h in fifth gear.

Having emerged from the half-empty streets of the residential area, I immediately dived into a long traffic jam. Thanks to its small width, short wheelbase and high steering angle, the bike is able to turn in a space of 2 meters and weave through cracks that I couldn’t squeeze through even if I wanted to, even on a KTM 690 SMC-R (whose anti-traffic capabilities I value as the highest ), not to mention Adventure left at home. As a result, I got to the final point of the route not in the usual 20 minutes, but in just 15!

As it turned out, I was wrong about the mirrors: they gave a sufficient idea of what was happening behind. True, when the engine spun up more than 6000 rpm, the picture “blurred” and became completely unreadable. Considering that they were an unnecessary fetish in a traffic jam, I tried to fold them... but the counter-nuts turned and the mirrors began to rotate freely, resembling two weather vanes. I had to unscrew them completely and throw them in my backpack.

If the rider has no more than 80 kilograms net, then the Lifan YK200 suspension will seem very comfortable to him. In any case, the bike handles chipped asphalt and smooth compacted dirt road with flying colors. You can only get a suspension breakdown by getting stuck in a hole broken by trucks or a hatch deeply sunk into the asphalt.

As for driving with a passenger, this is where the pain begins. Having put a girl weighing barely 50 kg on the tail, I felt the whole way how the rear suspension “folded” on every hole and bump. Therefore, if your 90-pound friend tearfully begs you to give him a ride on this bike, then be merciful to him and better shoot him right away.

However, if the rider rides “light,” then the YK200 allows you to take advantage of its low weight. Standing up a little on the footrests, you can sharply swing up and down, as if jumping. At this moment, the suspension is almost completely unloaded, and the motorcycle becomes capable of flying over areas where you wouldn’t go in your right mind without any consequences.

The handling of the motorcycle can be called bicycle-like - this is a hackneyed comparison, but it fits perfectly. The narrow standard tires played a positive role here. The bike shifts from turn to turn with the power of thought and in skillful hands is capable of performing miracles of maneuverability. True, the same comfortable suspension does not allow you to use the agility of the motorcycle 100%... Due to the lack of damping, the front fork sharply “pecks” during fast shifts. This is especially noticeable at low speeds. Therefore, I would recommend future owners of the Lifan YK200 to pour thicker oil into the fork. Although, I highly doubt that anyone will be so persistent in calculating the maneuverability limit of this technique.

As for the gearbox, this moment surprised me even during the test drive in China. The bike has a surprisingly soft and precise gearbox with moderate foot travel. With all due respect to the Yamaha YBR125 (which, by the way, is now not only assembled, but also manufactured in China), its gearbox compared to the gearbox of this “Chinese” is a bucket of bolts. In my memory, this is the first Chinese-made Pepelats for which I had no complaints regarding the gearbox! Even the gear ratios are chosen quite well. I would only add a sixth gear to the existing five - not that it is really needed... but on the highway it certainly would not hurt.

The braking system of the Lifan YK200 is typical for small budget bikes. This is a hydraulic front brake and a drum rear brake. At the front there is a two-piston “floating” caliper, working in tandem with a brake disc rigidly mounted on the wheel. I expected the system to work “sluggishly and weakly,” but, oddly enough, the front brake turned out to be quite effective and informative - the force of two fingers on the lever was enough in absolutely any situation. Of course, the low weight of the bike and the low speed limit (about 70-90 km/h) had a positive effect here. The rear “drum” also turned out to be very effective, but sometimes such a “voice” woke up in it that pedestrians on the sidewalks jumped in fear, and cars shied away from the wild creaking!

Having ridden this frivolous Chinese motorcycle around the city for half a season, I firmly decided that I wouldn’t get off it next season either. At least on daily city trips. And let my friends continue to twirl their fingers at their temples, proudly sitting on a dirt bike stuck in a traffic jam...

Our editorial stable is gradually replenished with test equipment, which we, without a twinge of conscience, have the right to drive head and shoulders, without worrying about new scratches on the plastic or broken parts of the body kit. It's time to talk about the Lifan YK200 (aka Alfamoto Apache). The fate of this bike was unusual. He spent half the season on the training ground of the Vschleme motorcycle school, stoically enduring the bullying of the students.

* We are talking about the author’s business trip to the Lifan plant in Chongqing. More details in MD No. 98.

** Serves to enrich the combustible mixture when the throttle valve is opened sharply. When the throttle valve is opened smoothly, the accelerator pump does not operate. It is considered an attribute of sports equipment. Now, during the massive transition to fuel injection systems, it can be seen in the carburetors of cross-country motorcycles.

Exploitation:

1. During the long stay of this motorcycle in the playful hands of the students of the Vshleme motorcycle school, a lot of interesting things became clear. The most pleasant thing was that after a little modification the motorcycle is not afraid of light falls. Only the steering wheel weights and footpeg brackets suffer, acquiring new scratches. During more serious falls, the bike reaches the asphalt with the headlight housing and rear plastic, but such contacts are limited to small scratches without compromising the integrity.

2. The most serious damage that the bike has received so far is the torn off aluminum plate for attaching the footpegs on the left side. The problem was solved using argon welding.

3. The stock tires didn’t inspire confidence in us at first, but they turned out to be quite good, providing good grip. In conditions of daily training on the site, it was enough for half a season. Moreover, it was mainly not the central part of the tread that was ground down, but the sidewalls.

4. Due to the presence of an accelerator pump and driving mainly in the city and on the training ground, the average fuel consumption on the Lifan YK200 was very different from the declared one and amounted to approximately 5 liters of 92 gasoline per 100 km.

5. The engine has two oil filters. The first is located under the drain cover and is made of metal mesh. It will prevent large pieces of anything from getting where they don't belong. The second is centrifugal, for fine cleaning. It is located under the right crankcase cover and must be periodically disassembled and cleaned. In total, this procedure takes longer than replacing a conventional oil filter. But you don’t have to look for and buy a new one every time.

6. The air filter is located under the right seat pad and is a piece of molded foam rubber. It comes from the factory dry and perfectly passes all the dust into the inside of the engine. Therefore, before starting operation, it must be moistened with special oil for air filters.

7. This engine performs well on regular automotive “semi-synthetic” with a viscosity of 10W-40. The main thing is that the canister does not indicate the presence of additives that reduce friction. As for the inevitable slipping and death of the clutch, as well as the entire engine as a whole, this is a common myth.

Apache ATV

The Apache 150 ATV was launched on the market by a Russian company called AVM. The abbreviation stands for “Auto-Velo-Moto”. In general, this ATV is a recreational all-terrain vehicle that can be ridden both on country and rough terrain. For 2021, it is being produced in China, together with a Russian manufacturer.

Manufacturer and quality guarantee

specializes in the production of various motor vehicles. It began in 1996. It was in this year that the company opened and began producing motorcycles. At the moment, the plant’s products cannot be called original, because they buy some parts from their partners in China. However, despite this, the quality of the produced models still remains at a high level.

Model advantage

The Apache 150 ATV has large wheels and a fairly high suspension. It is these qualities that give this vehicle good maneuverability and maneuverability in almost any terrain, be it a bumpy field, snow, sand, swamp or forest.

You can use this all-terrain vehicle in almost any area of your life. For example, during active recreation or to perform some kind of work. Most often, hunters and fishermen have their eyes on this model.

In addition, the Apache 150 ATV is one of the cheapest of the Apache series.

dimensions

One of the main factors for the future owner of a motorcycle is the dimensions of the vehicle. After all, the more compact the model, the easier it is to place it in the garage or ride in narrow alleys. Apache 150 is medium in size.

  • during operation:
  • length – 1740 mm;
  • width – 980 mm;

Specifications

Technical characteristics are the second main factor when choosing a motorcycle model.

In general, buyers in most cases pay most attention to:

  • power plant;
  • chassis.

People who are more or less versed in technology can pay attention to a number of other technical parameters. They will be discussed below, but now the most popular characteristics of the Apache 150 ATV will be considered.

Power point

The Apache 150 ATV has a four-stroke gasoline engine. One cylinder. And the working volume is 149.9 cubic meters. In this case, the rated output power at 6000 rpm is 12 horsepower/8.8 kilowatts. The maximum torque at 5000 rpm in one minute is 14 newtons/meter.

The transport is equipped with a forced air cooling system. Type of lubrication system - oil sump.

A carburetor fuel system is also installed, and the type of carburetor itself is Mikuni.

It is best to use fuel no lower than AI-92, and oil - 10w40. The ATV is equipped with a contactless ignition system with an electronic control unit. Electric starter or kickstarter starting system.

Chassis

The second important technical characteristic is the chassis. The chassis includes a transmission, chassis units and control mechanisms.

The chassis is the second important technical characteristic

More detailed characteristics are presented below:

  • off-road front wheel tires, type AT21x7-10;
  • off-road rear wheel tires, type AT20x10-10;
  • hydraulic brake system;
  • front and rear disc brakes;
  • centrifugal, dry clutch;
  • 3 gears;
  • spring-hydraulic front and rear shock absorbers;
  • rear drive system;
  • The transmission system is represented by a V-belt variator.

Like the power plant, the chassis is made at an average level, so this ATV is not suitable for those who like maneuverability at high speed. However, for any other purpose the Apache 150 is ideal.

Other options

Other parameters include secondary qualities of the ATV or those that cannot be classified into one large group:

  • The fuel tank volume is 7.5 liters;
  • the weight of the entire Apache 150 ATV is 137 kg;
  • it can be accelerated to a maximum of 65 km/h;
  • maximum load capacity – 280 kg;
  • number of seats – 1.5;
  • at a speed of 20 km/h, the ATV will consume almost 4 liters of fuel for every 100 km.

As you can see, according to these parameters, the ATV also belongs to the average ATV. This also confirms other technical characteristics.

Model range and approximate cost

The AVM company released not just one Apache model, but as many as 7 models, not counting the Apache 150.

They all have the same prefix Apache, but differ mainly in numbers:

  • AVM Apache 200;
  • ABM Apache 400;
  • Apache 150 basic;
  • Apache basic 150cc;
  • Apache Track 180cc;
  • Apache Track 250 snowmobile;
  • Apache 300.

Apache 150 basic quad bike

The Apache 150 basic ATV costs a little lower than its brother, the Apache 150, and has good reviews. This is due to the fact that this model is equipped somewhat worse, and is inferior in power. Because of this, the price of this ATV is about 115 thousand rubles.

APACHE TRACK 180 cc

This device can be either an ATV or a snowmobile. This allows it to be used all year round. A very good model for outdoor enthusiasts. And the price is not very high. An ABM Apache 180 ATV costs approximately 160 thousand rubles on the Russian market.

Snowmobile Apache Track 250

The Apache Track 250 ATV-snowmobile is a more powerful unit than the previous model. One of the main advantages is the quick transformation from an ATV to a snowmobile and vice versa. However, the price has not increased much. So, it can be purchased for 180 thousand rubles.

The price of the AVM Apache 300 ATV varies the most on the market in Russia. For example, in one region you can buy it for 200 thousand rubles, and in another, exactly the same motorcycle equipment for 260 thousand rubles.

Competitors and analogues

If we talk about analogues and competitors of AVM Apache ATVs, then there are enough of them, but they are all inferior to the technical characteristics of the original Apache.

For example, competitors of Apache 400 may be:

  • CFMOTO U8W EPS;
  • Godzilla Utility 150;
  • Yamaha RHINO 700.

Competitors that are similar to Apache 300:

  • CFMOTO X4;
  • Wels Thunder 200;
  • Honda TRX 350.

Apache owners' opinion

Most people who have purchased Apache equipment are satisfied with their purchase.

For example, Egor Andreev wrote a review about the AVM Apache 200 ATV:

“I originally purchased this model because of its low price. Honestly, I thought that in the near future I would regret it. However, it turned out that the ATV does not require special care, and it is a pleasure to ride.”

And Alexander Golodyuk shared his impressions of his purchase of the Apache Track 250:

“I’ve wanted to buy a similar unit for a long time, but I didn’t have enough money. Not long ago I saved up and bought my dream. Now I ride it in the village all year round, I even taught my wife. Now we often argue about who will drive.”
