Depending on the motorcycle you have, the driver may need completely different types of equipment. For example, if the motorcycle is a road bike, then you should not buy a helmet for sports riding on tracks or off-road.
What types of LS2 helmets are there according to their purpose?
- Integral. A fairly wide range of LS2 helmets has various variations of integrals. Such helmets best protect the head: chin, temples, back of the head, forehead and eyes. The chin is especially susceptible to injury, and therefore its protection is a huge plus. Of the minuses: rather small visibility, which significantly reduces the field of view.
- Modular. This LS2 helmet resembles the previous one in appearance, but has a feature: the chin is raised or completely removed, which is an advantage in the warm season. Such multifunctionality costs much more, and in addition, modular loses weight, since it is heavier due to removable parts.
- Cross. This type of LS2 motocross helmet is designed for off-road motorcycles. It is even visually different from its “relatives”: the protruding chin and visor protect the visor, and at the same time the motorcyclist’s eyes, serving as protection from dirt and asphalt, which is rapidly approaching when falling.
- Open helmet. In this case, the chin is left without protection. If there is no visor, the entire face is defenseless. The advantage is excellent ventilation in hot conditions and relatively low weight. In addition, this helmet makes it convenient to have a snack on the road.
- Helmet. This type should only be used for driving at low speeds and in relatively safe conditions.
Impressions of the LS2 F399 Valiant helmet
The weight is a plus compared to a racing integral. When you hang it on a hanger, you feel that it weighs a lot, but on the road you don’t feel it and especially don’t bother you. Why this happens, I don’t know. Maybe the aerodynamics are correct, and the weight is somehow compensated by the oncoming flow, or this excess weight is shifted somewhere in the right place.
Yes, noisy, but only when the jaw is thrown back. But at this moment the face is well ventilated and not hot, even when the sun is shining. The filter is well-dark; you won’t have to wear additional dark glasses under your helmet. By the way, for the temples of the glasses there are recesses in the foam of the capsule and a “bespectacled friendly” patch - it’s convenient to put on the glasses and they don’t interfere with lowering the light filter, and especially the visor.
When you lower your jaw, it becomes much quieter, you can talk on the phone and listen to music. I won’t recommend it for a naked bike riding 250+, but for a motorcycle with glass behind which you can at least partially hide - definitely YES. Moreover, now I don’t understand people who buy ordinary modulars without a focus with a recline on the back of the head.
Like flip-ups, when you snap the “jaw” down, the helmet fits tighter on your cheeks. I first added pads under the headset speakers to make them fit better in my ears. In the open version, it was good. But on the road, after closing my jaw, the speakers pressed on my ears, and it was uncomfortable. I got home, took out the pads, and it was perfect. That's how I go.
In fact, there are more than two options for using a helmet: open without glass and a light filter, with glass, with a light filter, with glass and a light filter, closed with a raised glass without a light filter, with a raised glass and light filter, with a lowered glass without a light filter, with a lowered glass and light filter. Total EIGHT. Plus the air intake on the chin opens and closes and on the forehead opens and closes. You can adjust to any temperature, humidity, dust and precipitation. If you get caught in the rain, drops do not fall on the glass from the inside either from above through the seal or from below through the ventilation. The glass does not sweat, there is no need to open it slightly. The full-size Pinlock fit snugly with no gaps. The picture does not optically distort. The drops on the outside of the glass are blown down and to the sides by the wind at 80 kilometers per hour. In a flaccid cork, you have to wipe the glass with a glove.
The headset fit easily, there was no need to do anything, just slightly deepen the niches in the foam for the speakers with a diameter of 40mm. The headset itself is glued to the side; it does not interfere with opening the jaw and lowering and raising the light filter using the lever on the cheekbone. And the wires don't get in the way either. The standard microphone on a short rod fits neatly, opening and closing the jaw and putting on and taking off the helmet itself does not interfere.
There is a curtain on the chin that will prevent flies from flying into the helmet from below. The same curtain covers the gap between the jaw and the capsule when the chin arch is raised to the back of the head, so that there is no air whistling from there.
I felt the mechanism - complex, but logical. There is protection against fools - when trying to lower the jaw over the lowered glass, he first lifts the glass itself, only then allows the jaw to lower. You won't be able to scratch the glass with your jaw.
The lining material feels pleasant and smooth to the touch. It takes sweat from the scalp and carries it towards the longitudinal ventilation channels for evaporation and removal. I opened the air intake on my forehead and there was airflow to my scalp. At temperatures above +30 Celsius, you can also drive - sweat does not flow down your face.
It looks like a really good all-round helmet for those who have a motorcycle or scooter equipped with a windshield that shapes the air flow well and directs it away from the shoulders and neck to the forehead area. On hot days, behind such glass in a closed helmet you are suffocating, and the ability to tilt the “jaw” to the back of your head (with one hand, mind you, you can open and close it on the go) is a very useful feature. And in cold and bad weather, you can seal the curtains and sit behind the glass with an anti-fog pinlock.

If you choose an LS2 helmet that is too large, it will fit over your eyes, move to the side when you turn your head, and generally hang loosely on your head. In order to find out the size of your head, you need to measure its circumference along the largest circumference (forehead, temples, back of the head). Sometimes two sizes may fit. In this case, you should choose a smaller one, since during operation the interior trim will become smaller and the helmet will become looser.

After owning the HJC RPHA 10plus helmet for 3 years, I wanted something fresh and new. And since I drive mainly around the city, I wanted to try open helmets, or at least ¾ helmets. It would have been possible to have a modular one, but I already had a helmet of this type (Caberg Duke), and there was no particular use from it, since it was not convenient to ride with the jaw raised... But in the end I decided to buy an all-in-one, and it’s a transformable helmet – you want it open, you want it closed, you want it ¾, and you can take it all with you at once and at any time. Well, you need to put a new headset on your new helmet, so I’ll tell you about that too. I hope my experience will be useful to someone. First, we should tell you why LS2, because there are many other manufacturers on the market producing similar marvels of engineering. Namely:
The most famous manufacturer of such helmets is the French company SHARK, and its product EVOLINE 2, 3, etc.
The manufacturer is old and well-known - that’s why there are many reviews. About the second, many complained about the short life of the “jaw” lifting mechanism and the creaky design. The new ones have not the best visors, which wear out quickly. And they want a decent price for it.
The product of the Italian manufacturer Airoh, codenamed Rev. Actually, it was when I saw it in the store that I thought about purchasing such a product. Everything seems to be fine - the manufacturer is well-known, the reviews are good, and the consumables are quite affordable. But there is a minus - there is no pinlock support. From the word absolutely.
This means that autumn, as well as wet weather, will make its use a pain. After all, it is in such weather that the helmet is most often closed. One of the features I can note is that the visor opens with a spring mechanism. Pressed the button and voila - fresh air. Airoh also has an interesting model – Executive. Converts from an integral to an open helmet by unfastening the jaw. Moreover, you don’t need to look for where to store it - there is a special place for fastening on the back of the head. Everything is very easy, simple and fast. The helmet itself is small, compact, and has a pinlock. But the idea itself is strange - I didn’t notice much difference (from the photo) with the jaw unfastened, compared to the closed version. At the height of discounts, the price of Airoh helmets is very attractive, but there are disadvantages, so the search continued.
Then my gaze fell on the products of the Chinese manufacturer LS2, which is not only an OEM manufacturer for many more popular brands, but has long earned its right to a place in the sun. And he has just such a model - FF399, or the more euphonious name Valiant.
I won’t be too verbose, since I’m clearly not an expert, and everyone has their own feelings.

I think it’s worth starting with my anthropometric data, or rather with the most important of them - head circumference. This is 60.5-61 cm. In the store I tried on a helmet in size L, but I couldn’t close my jaw because my nose was in the way) And since I got used to it for more than 30 years, I had to take a helmet in size XL, which fit perfectly, nicely squeezing your cheeks. Weight plays a secondary role for me, so personally I don’t feel the difference between the 1250 old and the 1750 new - that one, that this one is just put on and that’s it.
I liked the fact that there is a lot of space for the ears - I would even say there is a separate room for each ear. As a proponent of riding with earplugs for hearing protection, this is especially important to me (see my earlier post on earplugs for motorcyclists). I didn’t feel any pressure on my ears at all; in HJC it was worse.
Native built-in headset
The retractable sunglasses are very comfortable and really huge. They completely cover the entire field of view of the eyes, as if you were driving with a tinted visor. There remains only a thin crack at the bottom, but it is really small and I think it can be removed a little by moving the helmet forward on the head. The glasses are pulled out using a horizontal slider on the left side of the helmet, which does not cause discomfort when used in any conditions. Movement back, to the back of the head - glasses are lowered, forward - raised.
There is sufficient ventilation - closable openings on the chin and on the top of the head. It is worse than in HJC, but since the helmet can be made open, this is not so important.
Aerodynamics in itself is a rather controversial characteristic, since everything depends on the driver himself, his posture, the bike, riding conditions and speed, etc. Let me say briefly - it’s definitely worse than the RPHA10plus, which is not surprising, since that helmet is purely sports and is designed for the highest speeds on a motorcycle that is not the most hooded. But she’s not bad either - on my Ryska I accelerated to 190 in the open version - she doesn’t shake her head or turn to the side. Overall a solid 4. The manufacturer claims to have blown the helmet in a wind tunnel.
I definitely liked the transformation mechanism more than on the Shark Evoline 3. It gave me the feeling of a more thoughtful and perfect design. The positive point is that, like other manufacturers of similar helmets, there is no longer a need to raise the visor before closing/opening the jaw - here everything happens on its own, albeit with a little more effort (compared to if the visor was initially raised) . Those. we pull the jaw, and the visor rises on its own, after which we close it on the opposite move - I got used to it literally in 3-4 times.
Changing the visor here is really quick, but not the most successful. The RPHA actually has a very successful system - raise the visor all the way, press the lever and that’s it. Here everything is a little trickier - you need to pull the visor itself out of the visor holder, made of ABS plastic, using a squeezing motion. I did this once when I was putting the headset on so as not to scratch it - on the right side I did it myself, on the left I asked a friend for help - my tendon on my thumb was inflamed and I could not develop enough force. But I think you can get used to this, especially since many owners found this mechanism convenient. By the way, visors for it cost 2000 rubles. on Fast Ali, and only 950 from official dealers in Moscow! I'll buy myself a couple in winter as a spare.
Changing the visor
The helmet fits well, hugging your head nicely and tucking in your cheeks. It's hard for me to compare to HJC because it's like a new pair of shoes when you put them on after a well-worn and loved pair. But nothing presses anywhere, my head doesn’t hurt, my helmet doesn’t wobble. When you close your jaw, the pressure on your cheeks increases, but this feeling quickly passes. True, when you lift your jaw, the feeling is the opposite - as if you are riding without a helmet at all)
Transformation mechanism
Appearance is the most controversial part. In the open version everything is great! An elegant helmet from all sides, made in a modern style. In general, nothing special. In the closed version, everything is also super from all sides.... In addition to the full-face view, the front is shorter) In this version, the head resembles a hamster's face) A nice, fat hamster's face. Unfortunately, this is a minus of all similar helmets, so it’s not even a minus, but a feature.
But the downsides, after 3 weeks of use and 1300 km. mileage the following came out: — The ratchet mechanism is not a drawback for many, but for me it’s the opposite. 2 rings are more convenient, reliable and comfortable. - The soft pads on the straps are painted - I arrive, and I have blue stripes on both sides of my neck and jaw. I think it will be cured by washing. The rest of the insides are not painted. Strap pads only. - There is no ring to secure the helmet to helmet seat hooks or similar. You will either have to hide it in a trunk or carry it with you. — Difficult placement of a non-native headset - more on this below. — Closing your jaw while moving, especially at speed is fun - the visor opens))) But you also get used to it!
Bottom line: I am 100% satisfied with the helmet. You can easily put up with all the disadvantages, especially under normal driving conditions along road traffic conditions at reasonable speeds. The buzz after “captivity” in the integral is immeasurable. The visor is huge, not like a sports one. Everyone can hear me, everyone can hear me. Overall, I'm not disappointed and happy with the choice.
Now a little about the headset. In itself, it is very famous and recognizable. I chose a set of 2 pieces from the TCOM-SC series, the most sophisticated type, with an Intercom radius of 1000 meters.
Bought from Chinese Schumacher, delivery from Moscow 4 days after purchase. Comes in a beautiful box. The quality of materials is at the highest level - the wires are soft, in silicone braiding, since it can also be used on snowmobile helmets, and it should not harden in the cold.
The set includes 2 headsets, 4 helmet mounts (2 on a stick-on base and 2 on a clothespin), 2 sets of headphones-microphone on a soft rod (when ordering, you can ask for a microphone on a wire for integrals), Velcro Velcro for installation in a helmet. They are installed like all the others, 2 headphones in the helmet, a microphone in front, a headset on the side.
But like everyone else, there are nuances. There were 2 of them. Firstly, the stamping on the internal material (let's call it foam plastic) under the right ear is smaller in diameter than the left)))) I think this was done to the size of the ears of the native headset, but the TKOM speaker did not fit on the right. Ha! The Chinese frightened us - we apply speakers, outline, arm ourselves with a scalpel and everything is ok. 5 minutes and everything was as if it had happened.
The wiring is absolutely standard. But the placement of the headset itself had its own difficulties. In general, there are plenty of places to place it. But where it would be most convenient, the glasses slider gets in the way, and if you move it further, the decorative rim at the bottom of the helmet will interfere with disconnecting the charging connector.
In the end, I chose the golden mean, placing the headset at an angle of 45 degrees. It is slightly offset back, but it's easy to get used to. To bring the cable out from under the interior of the helmet, I used a drill to make a groove in the plastic rim of the helmet.
I liked the headset itself. Before this I used Midland BTX2 for almost 4 years, so I will compare it with it. The sound of the new one is definitely better, as is the sensitivity of the microphone. Listening to music has become much more pleasant, the sound is rich and detailed (of course for such devices).
The presence of a screen allows you to configure the headset one or two times, rather than counting the seconds of pressing buttons and not looking at the color of the indicators. Again, charging control is simpler - or rather, it exists at all, everything is as we are used to. But in the midland, nothing until it starts whining about battery low.
Radio – I missed having it in my Midland.
Cons: - Calling voice assistants such as Siri, Alice, Google, etc. is not supported. AT ALL. At Midland, I pressed the forward key and they immediately asked me what I wanted - I could write an SMS, call, they could read the SMS, and they could find the song I wanted and play it. And there’s no way I wasn’t doing shamanism…. Sad. - Another point - if you listen to the radio with a phone connected via Bluetooth, and when the latter makes at least some sound, it interrupts the radio, plays in your ears... And that’s it, silence, the radio doesn’t wake up back. You have to climb with your hand. But this happens with any notification, spam, etc. Not fun either. — My headset, at least one of them, has a glitch - the screen shows that there is still 50% charge left, and it writes “BATTERY LOW” in huge letters and eventually turns off. Although in this mode, at maximum volume via Bluetooth, it plays music for 5 hours non-stop. I think it’s a bug in the firmware or the battery – in short, I’m negotiating with the Chinese.
— What a nitpick - switching to the next track or increasing the volume is done not by turning the encoder forward, in the direction of movement, as would be logical, but on the contrary, backwards. Those. if it lies on the table, everything is great, very familiar: turn the wheel to the right. And when you attach it to a helmet, you have to relearn. But I'm already used to it.
Bottom line: I liked the headset. Even taking into account the listed shortcomings, the price for a set of 6,000 rubles covers everything. In general, it was recommended to me by a person who had used both Skala and Sena before, and in the end decided that it would be easier for him, if anything, to just buy a new set. Although the same ones have been living with him for the 3rd year.
What is the difference between male and female?
Representatives of the fair sex, just like men, need equipment. While motorcycle jeans, a jacket and boots may differ in structure and tailoring, a helmet is often practically no different from a man’s helmet. Of course, there is the concept of a motorcycle helmet for women and men, but this division of equipment is very relative.
Due to the identical head structure of both sexes, many girls easily wear men's helmets. The only thing worth paying attention to is that the size of men's helmets may not match the circumference of a motorcyclist's head, and therefore it is extremely important to try on the equipment before purchasing.
Motorcycle or snowmobile helmet?
Two similar and at the same time very different types of vehicles require different helmets. And although you can use regular motorcycle equipment on snowmobiles, it still has its own characteristics. Firstly, an open helmet for a snowmobile is nonsense, since cold winds in winter make you think about a sealed astronaut suit, not to mention uncomfortable summer gear. Owners of winter vehicles will also not be happy with helmets, because they provide little protection from low temperatures and cold winds.
And vice versa: motocross helmets are popular among snowmobile owners, and modular helmets allow you to keep the protection on while stopping. In addition, there are helmets with special visors: double, with a sealed layer or with electric heating. Since it depends on the visor whether a winter driving enthusiast will suffer from sinusitis in the future, you should pay attention to this when purchasing.

What do we expect from travel equipment? First of all, reliability. Lightning that strikes in the middle of a two-week trip can ruin everything in the same way as a set of documents that fell out on a long stretch after a drowned mobile phone. Scary? Against the background of these nightmares, comfort, which seems to be the main criterion, fades into the background. But there are still a good dozen points necessary for the tourist crew.
We need both safety and visibility, it would be nice if the equipment looked good and was easy to clean, it’s great to have a lot of pockets... The list can be continued endlessly, or rather, until the cost of a set exceeds one hundred thousand rubles for some BMW Rally suit. But the ventilation channels are quite large, the central one on the chin is complemented by four more on the sides, two on the top of the helmet, which are also complemented by a pair of holes on the back of the head - in the summer it should not be hot in it.

The lining looks simple and without frills, but the perforations for better head ventilation are the same as in top models, and the helmet filling has recesses for headphones, thanks to which installation of the headset will not take much time. I chose the latter, although I hesitated - the acid yellow one also looks catchy and is clearly visible on the road. In any case, the helmet looks elegant, just what we need for our filming.

I came across the ability to fix the “jaw” in a raised position using a special slider for the first time on a modular, and as an active user of such helmets, I can say that the function can be useful. Especially when you are driving through gullies. The visor, which, as befits a tourist helmet, has a pinlock, is also conveniently removable. By the way, along with the helmet, I would advise you to immediately buy a spare visor - when traveling it is useful to have a spare one, fortunately the price tag is not too high; for glass in Bike Land they charge about a thousand rubles.

The clasp is the usual and probably the most common “ratchet” on civilian helmets. Convenient, practical and reliable. By the way, only the buckle on this helmet is steel, while the ratchet itself is plastic, so there are no concerns about corrosion.

The only thing we can criticize the LS2 FF324 Metro Rapid for is its weight. The shell, made of a “super-strong kinetic polymer alloy” or, in simple terms, plastic, emphasizes the large functionality of the helmet – 1650 grams. The indicator is low, modulars can be heavier, however, if you spend 17 hours a day driving, the extra 150 grams can take a toll, especially on the neck muscles.

However, the engineers took care of this separately - the nose of the helmet is slightly extended forward, which, theoretically, should improve aerodynamics and, as a result, slightly reduce the load on the rider. One thing is certain - drops of water will fly away from the visor faster, that’s a fact.

The debate about choosing textile or leather equipment revolves only around city driving; you will hardly be able to find textile overalls for the track, just as it will not be easy to buy leather equipment for traveling. On the outside there are two types of fabric made of 100% polyester, one, gray, is thinner, the second, black, located on the shoulders and elbows, is thicker, clearly taking into account the likelihood of contact of these areas with asphalt. Inside, according to the manufacturer, there is a waterproof membrane, but its durability has not yet been tested.

But the adjustments, one on the sleeves and two on the waist, can be assessed as excellent - I specifically chose a larger size, because I plan to ride in it until late autumn and wear a bunch of warm clothes under the jacket.

On the outside there are four more pockets with zippers, a pair on the chest and a pair at the bottom - a classic of tourist jackets, expanded by ventilation holes. The front ones are especially interesting - the pockets are locked with a pair of zippers and are fixed with magnets in the open position. My experience of riding with a similar solution, albeit on trousers of a different brand, showed that humanity has not yet come up with anything better.
The ventilation on the cuffs is also interesting - in addition to Velcro, there are also zippers at the end of the sleeves that can be unfastened in both directions. In other words, it’s convenient to put on the jacket even with boxing gloves, and with the cuffs tightened, you get a flow of cool air into the sleeves, if, of course, you need it.

The rest is within the genre: reliable and fairly large inserts on the shoulders and elbows, as well as “foam” in the back, which must be replaced with something heavier and certified. At the top there are reflective inserts and an interesting collar adjustment system, at the bottom there is a zipper that allows you to fasten the jacket to the trousers. The downside of waterproofness and insulation is poor ventilation. In the heat you can cope in the same way as in a room without air conditioning. Alas, miracles do not happen - as soon as there is at least some ventilation on the pants, you will have to forget about warmth and resistance to precipitation.
Protection is at a high level - rather thick foam inserts on the hips and powerful foam knee pads, the mounting height of which can be changed in two positions. The manufacturer did not forget about the reflective elements. What else is needed? I would like more pockets: two, even with zippers, are not enough! Otherwise, these are smart trousers, and only time will tell how long they will last in active mode.

Purchase history and my sad impressions of the LS2 FF325 modular helmet, as well as a short review of the LS2 FF351 and IXS HX1000 helmet. I ask in advance not to throw slippers, do not shout “China is guano”, “What did you want” and the like. The justified choice of this particular model will be described below. In general, I’ll start from the distant beginning - with my first helmet. By the way, also from LS2, model FF351, bought back in 2013 in Minsk, in a motorcycle store “I don’t remember what it was called”)) It was an integral helmet, a simple model, without glasses, without a pinlock (although I didn’t know such words then) . I was hooked by the coloring, as I call him “Wolverine”, there are beautiful claws on the back, and the red color is my favorite)))
I wore this helmet as a passenger for 4 seasons, on long-distance trips and not so much. I was quite pleased with him, if not for the lack of black glasses. But over time, the helmet began to leak in the rain in the area where the visor was attached, it turned out that water was flowing over the ears, and this is no fun on the road) And if for the first 2 seasons I rode around Belarus and didn’t experience much rain, then having moved to a rainy Tver, at the end of season 4, I realized that I urgently need a new helmet, otherwise I don’t have to wash my hair, it still gets wet even with a helmet ((In addition to all this, I wanted a modular helmet, because it’s very convenient in my opinion. Then, at the end of season 4, I tried out a friend’s helmet, IXS HX1000, also an integral, but with glasses. In the photo, both helmets are the old LS2 and IXS.
I was just terribly disappointed! It seemed to me that my Chinese guy was not lying around, but it turned out to be the opposite! To begin with, I dropped my Chinese one several times and it was intact, only the paint was peeled off here and there, and an IXS friend dropped it and cracked the visor in the area of the mount and broke the mount itself ((The visor was blasphemously sealed with tape, because there was a crack in the view did not interfere. But this happened already in the middle of the 2nd season of operation, which made me think... Well, when we exchanged helmets on the road to evaluate the “wonderfulness”, I was completely shocked! It turned out that the visor spontaneously rises from the wind, closes loosely and It turns out that there is such a gap of 1-2 cm, into which it begins to mercilessly seep through! And since I wear lenses and I can’t let my eyes dry out - it’s just terrible ((It seems that according to a friend, this kind of bullshit doesn’t happen to him, because... because the flow on the contrary presses the visor, but as a passenger it was not very pleasant for me to ride, I had to hold the visor with my hand so as not to open ((In the photo you can even see this gap, the visor opens itself even when the helmet is upside down.
We somehow got along the highway, and when we entered the city, I decided to open the visor completely, but pull out the glasses so that at least I could see where we were going and not hold it with my hand. So it started to show through around the edges of the glasses! What is this! The plus to all this happiness was that my head was shaking wildly already at a speed of 100 km/h and the helmet after 80 km/h began to make a disgusting noise... At the same time, according to a friend, my old LS2 made less noise, and more bassy, not annoying, my head didn’t shake, the visor, of course, didn’t open on its own, and in general it turned out that my pilot was terribly pleased)) By the way, the sizes of our helmets are the same, so we can’t blame a discrepancy in size. Having made certain conclusions, I began to look closely at modulars from various companies, winter had just arrived, motor toxicosis, everything)) It turned out that the modulars do not have much variety in colors, mostly black, white, gray. And that's all ((Since I definitely wouldn’t buy a helmet on the Internet without trying it on, I was looking for real stores where I could try it on. Accordingly, I looked for stores in Moscow so that there would be more choice, since in Tver there is not a single modular size S they didn’t offer me(( In general, the SportEX shopping center was found (don’t take it as an advertisement), where I saw a lot of motorcycle stores and it was decided to go there with the confidence that I would definitely find something. We arrived and I began to choose... Of all stores offered me a total of 10 models, no more, rather even less (either the size is not there, or the color does not suit (I chose white so that it would be at least a little brighter, since somehow there are no colored ones). I will say right away - I terrible picky)) Therefore, I immediately dismissed IXS - I didn’t want to take risks. The HJC helmets didn’t fit because of the inconvenient lever for opening the black glasses - it’s located on top of the top of the head, it’s simply unacceptable for me, it was only needed on the side. The saleswoman tried to assure me that I I won’t open it on the road, they say they stopped, opened it and drove on. But somehow I can hardly imagine this))) On the contrary, on the road it will be necessary, suddenly the sun suddenly comes out)) Airoh had only one suitable model, but it turned out that even after trying it on after 5 minutes it pressed on the forehead (( I didn’t want to take the Chinese XTR or MTR (I don’t remember exactly), I heard unflattering reviews about it, and in the end they didn’t have my size. AGV and some other one put pressure on the jaw to the point of pain, so it didn’t fit either (On Shoei and Schuberth, unfortunately, there was no finances... Shark didn’t fit the size, I needed XS, although now I understand that it would probably be better if I ordered it a size smaller through the Internet... My huge stupidity was that we didn’t go to Bike Land, where I could change the Lazer, because they were not in any store in SportEX ((well, since there is no opportunity to ride every weekend to Moscow, I had to choose from what was available... And it turned out to be LS2. And two other models from the same company did not fit either, and this infection FF325 sat like a native (at that time). I tortured the seller, twisted and tried this helmet for about 40 minutes, in the end they began to offer me cognac)))) Etc. . There was no pressure anywhere, everything opened normally, the color was white, the glasses lever was on the bottom left, just like I wanted, I decided to buy it.
The fun began after the very first trip (It turned out that the helmet was already whistling at 40 km/h! And it was disgusting, so thin (I found the reason experimentally - the design of the air intake at the bottom - when closed there are 2 sticking out crap, in which the air begins to whistle, apparently swirling in an incomprehensible way, when open it doesn’t whistle, it’s already good...
But! At speeds above 80 km/h the helmet makes a terrible noise! The sound is as if a plane is landing next to me ((I have something to compare with, because transport workers land above our house every day))) I got used to it with grief, although after long trips my head is cast iron ((And, it seems, everything this only applies to the passenger, because there is a suspicion that the pilot will be fine and there will be no noise. So far, my friend and I haven’t changed helmets (I can’t stand another trip in his IXS), but we conducted some kind of experiment, what can we do? still not great)) At a speed above 120, he leaned over and pressed himself against the tank, and I remained sitting upright, imitating a pilot, so that the air flow was immediately towards me, and the noise disappeared! Well, not completely, but at least the plane stopped landing over your ear)) You don’t need to talk too much about the fact that the visor sweats, because... he sweats wildly even in the heat, the old helmet didn’t sweat like that. Salvation in the form of Sharkov's pinlock was found before the trip to Brest, because... I realized that I wouldn’t see anything, leaving early in the morning in the cold. The head shakes in this helmet - another minus. Again, I don’t know what it will be like for the pilot, maybe it will be ok, but no one shook my old helmet. The next surprise was that after an hour and a half the helmet begins to put pressure on the jaw and ears (To the point of redness, to pain, to the point of the jaw (((Opening the bottom of the helmet helps a little, but personally I won’t go that far, it’s convenient for me to go open Only in the city, on the highway I feel uncomfortable. I console myself with the fact that maybe the helmet will fit or my ears will adjust, but... Half the season has passed, and things are still there ((And now what has finally finished me off is this helmet, an infection, leaks in the rain !!! Of course it doesn’t pour on the ears, but the visor floods on both sides, water gets inside perfectly, the pinlock gets wet and sweats(((They say I bought a new helmet so that it doesn’t get wet(((My disappointment knows no bounds(In the photo I’m still pretty I smile, not knowing what awaits me)))
The most annoying thing is that I couldn’t identify all these shortcomings in the store... The price is also not 3 rubles, so it wouldn’t be a pity. Yes, I realized that this was China, but my old helmet actually behaved better after 4 years! And at that moment there wasn’t really a choice. Now it seems that you can only save up for Shoei, because... I really don’t know what to choose from anymore. Well, we still have to try the Lazer, although a friend complained about it too. We tested one of the best representatives of its class - the LS2 FF325 Strobe Snow Civik helmet. Why him? Firstly, the helmet ideally meets all the requirements imposed by our harsh climate, and secondly, it has a relatively affordable price tag, kept by Bike Land at the level of regular, “summer” helmets. Thirdly, LS2 is a decent brand that has proven itself well over many years of presence on the Russian market.

What exactly should be in a winter helmet? The first, and actually the main attribute is a heated visor. Of course, there are winter helmets without glass heating, however, for real frosts, electric heating is a necessity, and it is difficult to live without it. And the LS2 FF325 “Electric” version has it. The implementation is traditional for this design: a pair of heating elements in the upper and lower parts of the lens, a connector with a rather tight but reliable latch and a green diode, the inclusion of which indicates that the system is working properly, and a long wire, one end of which is plugged into the visor connector, and the other - connecting to the battery.
The heated visor is made using familiar and time-tested technology and prevents the glass from fogging up in cold weather.
The visor itself is slightly tinted: such “smoky” glass not only does not interfere with keeping an eye on the road at dusk, but also makes life easier during the day, helping to distinguish the relief on the white, sunlit snow. It is necessary in order to maximally protect the inner surface of the visor from the hot and humid air exhaled by the pilot.

In itself, it is convenient and practically does not interfere when putting on a helmet, however, it is worth considering that the LS2 FF325 is a modular and its “jaw” rises. There are no questions about the mechanism itself - the locking mechanism key is of sufficient size and is located well, the chin is securely fixed in both the upper and lower positions, but I am not always able to close it so that the mask sits evenly on the nose. Features of my physiology or its design? I have not yet been able to answer this question.
