Judging by the reviews, the Racer Panther 200 belongs to the second category - this bike is designed according to the principle “no innovation, only proven solutions, only hardcore!” It is unlikely that he will be able to surprise his owner, but he will almost certainly not give him any unpleasant surprises. In addition, universal motorcycles like the Racer Panther RC200GY C2 are chosen not for their beautiful appearance, but for their endurance and technical characteristics. In 2013, Russian motorcycle dealers offered the buyer a Chinese “universal soldier” - a Panther model from the Racer factory.
The launch of production a year earlier assumed one version with 250 cubic meters , but after studying demand, the Panther line was replenished with a younger model - with 200 cubic meters . In general, the motorcycle replicated the Japanese Honda XR 125 , but a more powerful engine and better torque distinguished the Chinese. The Panther RC200 uses a smaller version of the powertrain that Racer uses for most of its motorcycles. Despite the reduction in displacement, the engine's performance capabilities remained virtually unchanged.

Last time it all ended with the purchase of a motorcycle, but now I decided to review it and try myself as a storyteller. After the thought of buying a motorcycle insidiously settled in my brain, the hour of broken piggy banks, the agony of choice and soaring in the clouds came. Naturally, my imagination pictured an empty highway, a shiny Drag star and the wind in my hair, as well as a swarm of midges in my eyes. However, the empty wallet quickly brought me down to earth with the thought that, alas, there was no chance for me to buy something better than Yobrik. Still, I still had hope and I went to explore the local motor market. After just ten minutes of flipping through the ads, I felt sad. Everything was either expensive or Ural. I don’t know why, but the choice of “scoops” did not appeal to me, there was only one thing left to do - look at Chinese motorcycles at the local lawn mower store. In addition, my friend got me excited by letting me ride his Racer Nitro to my heart's content. As a result, PR and lack of money sent me to the official drug dealer of the Chinese manufacturer. The sports models interested me little, the classic one with a V-twin engine and a capacity of 250 cc amused me, but the SUV was quite interesting. And so, Racer Panther... 200 cubes, 14 horses per 110 kilograms of weight and the unfortunate, probably still hiccupping Honda XR125, from which this creation was actually copied. What frankly pleased me was the fit and handling of the motorcycle. The lack of power was annoying me already by the end of the first season, and if in the city it was somehow smoothed out by squeezing through traffic jams, then squeezing a maximum of 110 km/h out of a Chinese car on the highway is still an exercise, you know. However, I was wildly pleased with the consumption (3 liters per hundred kilometers) and the realization that you were no longer riding in a stuffy four-wheeled box, but on your own steel horse... well, like a horse, more like a pony. And here, of course, I would make a sour face, sigh heavily and enviously look at my motorcycle brothers on “real” motorcycles, if not for one small but. The Panther, however, was sold as an off-road vehicle... or maybe... no, some kind of nonsense... Well, we move towards the nearest country road. So far so good, but what if you go further? We turn towards the fields, take a couple of hills, go down to the stream, the motorcycle moves calmly in the mud, slowly throwing garbage at me from under the front fender. Shallow ford with a rocky bottom? The main thing is to raise your legs higher and no problems! Throughout the summer I chased the Chinese through the local forest and overall he left only positive emotions.
Soon the season ended and the agonizing wait for spring and warmth began... But we have a difficult motorcycle, we have an OFF-ROAD one! I saw how endurics ride in winter on YouTube, it’s true, it’s true! At -10, the motorcycle started up quite quickly, quickly took me to the forest and just as happily fell at the very first serious turn, crushing me and happily grunting from the snowdrift. Then it buried itself, fell, buried itself, stalled, scared a local granny, and buried itself again. As a result, I literally dragged it on its own hump for a couple of kilometers; after all, it’s a bad idea to ride on standard tires in winter. That’s pretty much how my winter riding experience ended.

This bike was not originally created for any sporting achievements, its element is to be transport for every day, and mainly somewhere in the countryside or just in the provinces. The Panther 200 racer is well suited for asphalt, but its element is rough terrain, graders and dirt roads, on which it can demonstrate everything it is capable of. And, perhaps, this is the very case when a motorcycle can be safely called both inexpensive and reliable.
Construction of the Racer PANTHER 200
The enduro class, to which the Chinese classified the model, required good bite, but given the presence of the Japanese prototype, in addition to this, the bike should become lighter, handle better, and, if possible, not lose its driving characteristics.
The design of the motorcycle is designed for off-road riding.
By using high-precision casting, the developers were able to solve the first issues, and by installing a more powerful engine, they were able to not only make their motorcycle equal to its Japanese counterpart, but in many ways surpass it .
The decision to produce two models also bore fruit. The Chinese did not specifically develop a new frame, given the slight difference in engine volumes . Therefore, in addition to the design strength, RC200GY-C2 also received a margin. It became one of the components of the success of the weaker model. This also includes the cost, the ability to travel not only outside the city, but also the low price.
Suspension
Due to its versatility, the bike’s suspension does not create the same problems as pure enduro . In terms of its capabilities, it is more suitable for a classic bike, but the steel thickness of 35 mm allows the motorcyclist to move on asphalt, dirt road, and, if desired, through clear forest.
The anthers on the front fork are soft and look “grown-up”.
The front wheel is supported by a standard telescopic fork, and the rear wheel is supported by a mono shock absorber. The stroke length of both shock absorbers is 150 mm .
Exterior
The decision to create a “universal soldier” gave the Panther the features of a standard road bike (there is even a place for a trunk), and, at the same time, unique to enduro.
Front end
The Racer PANTHER 200 has no bulky fairings, with the exception of a small windshield that covers the instrument panel.
The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the front of the bike is powerful road tires . It will allow movement on asphalt and minor off-road conditions. The second feature will be the wing, which, according to the standard for SUVs, is suspended under the very front body kit.
- The head optics are not rich - a small round headlight with a 2-helix bulb. Thanks to the versatility of the motorcycle, it shines well and is tuned to work in urban conditions. The body kit is small , most of it is placed above the headlight, curved in the shape of a visor. There is no windshield.
In the latest models, the headlight has taken on a more original shape.
Dashboard
The versatility of the panther is reflected here too. Unlike other models in the class, here you can see almost a complete set of instruments necessary for control.
The instrument panel is equipped with arrow-type indicators.
The driver has indications of speed and revolutions (both pointers) , an odometer (a line under the speedometer glass), an indicator of the engaged gear, as well as the inclusion of high beams. Turn signals and fuel gauge are not provided on the panel,
Although the tachometer has a white backing, the developers saved on the size of the numbers; they are not very readable . Marking up to 14x1000 rpm , red zone starts at 11000 .
There are also complaints about the speedometer.
- It fades in bright sunlight.
- Miles, on some versions of the dials, are printed in yellow (the stock backing is black). Numbers and additional dots that do not coincide with the main markings of the device make it difficult to read the readings.
Rear end
Motorists driving behind the panther will clearly see the rear red headlight, made in the shape of a hexagon. It combines a brake light and a side light . To protect against inclement weather, the developers positioned it at an angle, slightly retracting it under the rear stem.
- The turn signals are made on separate brackets and placed outside the bike. The location is good, it is immediately noticeable in traffic conditions.
- The saddle is 2-seater , behind it there is a small stem, there is enough space to install a trunk (interestingly, the Japanese have a trunk in this place). But the panther is not intended for long trips - the saddle is small in size, and the second number will sit almost on the muffler. The flex of the frame is designed so that the stem, saddle and fuel tank are in the same plane, with a slight flex at the rider's seat.
A long two-seater saddle is not designed for long trips.
Who is it suitable for?
The bike's riding position is optimal for riders of average height.
Due to the very low seating position, tall riders are advised to look at another model or check the bike thoroughly before purchasing. A low seating position and mid-mounted footrests will not provide riding comfort.
However, for people up to 170 cm tall, a bike can become an off-season vehicle. Stock tires feel good on untrodden snow. Installing winter tires will allow you not to interrupt the season and drive through snowy forests.

Users note only two drawbacks:

The Racer company presented another fighter in the light off-road enduro class. The Pantera 250 promises off-road enthusiasts plenty of adrenaline at an affordable price. Is it worth buying this motorcycle, or is it better to give preference to other models?
Chinese companies specializing in the production of budget motorcycles produce especially many classic “road bikes” and lightweight enduros.
This is understandable - in these classes, successful sales do not require any expensive technical innovations. A low price and a pleasant appearance will be enough. Well, reputation, of course, matters - although brands from the Middle Kingdom still have some problems with this. Most often, the Chinese rely on price, and this is obviously what they were guided by when releasing the Racer Panther 250 motorcycle onto the Russian market. Looking ahead, let’s say that the price of a new bike in the showroom for 2021 is about 85 thousand rubles .
In general, the motorcycle is called Racer Panther RC250GY C2 , but Russian bikers have already dubbed it simply “Panther”. Behind this loud name lies a generally unremarkable lightweight enduro, which, among other Chinese bikes in this class, stands out only for its even lower price than most of its competitors. The motorcycle is as simple as possible in all respects, and this can be attributed more to its advantages than to disadvantages. The simpler the technology, the more reliable it is, right? Technical characteristics of Racer Panther 250
You can guess what this two-wheeled steel friend is like just by looking at its price tag. A 224 cc 1-cylinder air-cooled engine was placed in the Racer Panther tubular steel frame , producing 14.7 hp . For dynamic driving, you will have to actively turn it - the peak of power occurs at 7500 rpm , while parasitic vibrations are strongly felt at high speeds. But can endurists be scared by such trifles? By the way, you will also have to switch gears very actively. But off-road, this is a plus - the motorcycle has little torque, and thanks to short gear ratios, the light bike overcomes dirt quite confidently in first and second gear.
The engine is powered by a carburetor, exactly the same as that installed on many other Chinese motorcycles. Narrow spoked wheels ( 19″ front and 17″ rear ), a simple telescopic fork and disc brakes with a two-piston caliper at the front and a single-piston caliper at the rear complete the picture. The Racer Panther 250 weighs only 118 kg , so it’s easy to handle. Theoretically, you can even ride together, but in practice it will be uncomfortable for both the driver and the passenger - it’s too cramped. The second number also constantly slides forward due to the slippery seat. The maximum speed of the Racer Panther 250 is 120 km/h , but the remaining dynamics disappear after about 80 km/h. On the other hand, when driving off-road, this does not matter at all. But on the highway you should be careful, because due to the narrow wheels and low weight, the Racer Panther 250 is not only noticeably blown away by the side wind, but also shakes from every car flying in the oncoming lane. At the same time, the motorcycle is really easy to control, and in the city it easily darts between cars, leaving owners of larger bikes far behind. And if necessary, it can also take the stairs.
Technical characteristics of Racer Panther 200
Judging by the appearance and layout, the source of inspiration for the Chinese engineers was the Honda XR125, a motorcycle that was once very popular, but has long been discontinued. However, this is a good example to follow. And even though the Racer company didn’t succeed in its Honda, the Panther 200 should still be considered a success. In an effort to keep the price at an affordable level, the Chinese assembled the motorcycle according to a proven design, resorting to the simplest and therefore reliable solutions. And what could be simpler than a tubular steel frame , a 1-cylinder air-cooled engine with a carburetor, and a simple 5-speed gearbox ? However, considering that the Racer Panther 200 is designed for harsh operating conditions, all this is only for the better. The impression is somewhat spoiled by rough welding and pockets of corrosion on the frame, noticeable even on a new motorcycle, but this is not critical.
But its 14.3-horsepower engine performs well off-road. It has practically no top end, but at low and medium speeds it behaves decently. On asphalt, the Racer Panther 200 can accelerate to 110 km/h , but it is not recommended to drive in this mode for a long time - such engines do not like it. But somewhere in the forest mud, he is able to get out of almost any puddle with a brave hoot, giving a solid roar at the end. And the Chinese, by the way, were concerned that the Panther Racer would sometimes fall outside the asphalt. They chose quite strong plastic for their creation, and in most cases it does not suffer if it falls on its side.
A plus will be the modest weight of the bike, only 118 kg . The only disappointment is the 10-liter gas tank - really couldn’t have added at least a couple more liters? Of course, the Racer Panther’s engine is not very voracious, but off-road its appetite still increases. But the brakes and suspension can only be praised. Braking is provided by two discs with 2-piston calipers, exactly the same as those installed on many other Racer motorcycles, and shock absorption is provided by an upside-down fork and a monoshock absorber. Of course, they could use some adjustments, but the suspension on this motorcycle is still surprisingly pleasant and also durable.
Pros and cons of Racer Panther 250
Advantages
- Low price . This applies to both the motorcycle itself and spare parts.
- Low weight . From a purely physical standpoint, even the frailest motorcyclist can handle RC250GY C2
- Excellent maneuverability . This follows from the previous point, and the short wheelbase also helps.
- Undemanding to gasoline . The Panther racer consumes AI-92 , and there is a suspicion that it is generally capable of riding anything that burns. Although it’s probably not worth checking on yourself.

- Sluggish dynamics . From 15 hp with 118 kg of mass one would expect more vigor.
- Pendants . They are extremely primitive, and they are often broken through in holes and bumps. Apparently, the Racer Panther 250 was originally designed for lighter Asians, and not for Europeans.
- Standard hand protection . Of course, it’s good that it exists at all, but the owner of large hands will find that his male palm hardly fits into the space allotted to it.
- Headlight . It is about as useful as an LED flashlight on a smartphone.

Advantages
- Versatility of spare parts . Many of them fit both other Racer motorcycles and motorcycles from other Chinese manufacturers.
- Plastic quality . It is durable and quite flexible, with the possible exception of the front fender.
- Nice pendants . Slightly harsh, but energy-intensive, reliable and effective.
- Confident traction at the bottom . This is undoubtedly very important for a universal off-road motorcycle, which the Racer Panther 200 is.
- Modest fuel consumption . The bike consumes on average no more than 3 liters, and the quality of gasoline does not seem to matter much to it at all.
Flaws
- Poor quality metal frame . Uneven welds and traces of corrosion are clearly visible in places.
- Quality of components . It leaves much to be desired, especially when it comes to the external elements of the body kit.
- Unstable footrest . If you place your motorcycle on a surface that is not perfectly level, there is a risk that it will fall.
- Vibrations . There are a lot of them, especially at high speeds. Off-road this is not so noticeable, but when driving for a long time on asphalt roads, they quickly begin to get boring.

The engine is reliable, so is the gearbox, and in principle all the main components are normal. Having ridden the Racer Panther at least a couple of times, you notice the imperfections of this motorcycle. It is made as budget-friendly as possible - savings are felt literally in everything, in every detail. But he doesn’t try to pretend to be something else, honestly declaring who he is with his whole appearance. As a first motorcycle, or as a replacement vehicle for the holiday season, it’s not bad - it’s cheap and rides tolerably well. What else do you need from a budget bike?

It's a durable piece of hardware, but the suspension is hard, so you can easily knock off your seat.
