IZH-49, motorcycle: photos, technical characteristics, tuning, owner reviews

The Soviet motorcycle IZH 49, like many other models, was not developed in the USSR from scratch. It was based on the experience of a German manufacturer, in this case - DKW. After World War II, equipment from German factories, along with documentation, was taken to Soviet territory, and soon production of the IZH-350 medium road bike, copied from the DKW 350, began. Interestingly, the German designer Hermann Weber, one of the creators of the original DKW, worked on this model. The motorcycle turned out to be quite successful, it was soon modernized, and at the same time received a new name - Izh49. An updated modification was made from 1951 to 1958.

Design

The appearance of the bike was diligently copied from the DKW-350, so the Soviet side, one might say, did not bother with the design at all. These days the bike looks like its modern retro brethren try to look, but for its era its appearance was quite modern. Two separate seats, a massive round headlight, a teardrop-shaped gas tank - everything is in the style of the 50s, which is clearly visible in the photo.

Model history

The origins of post-war Izh bikes begin with the German DKW 350. This motorcycle was copied in the USSR and was produced in the city of Izhevsk.
Naturally, the model was renamed Izh-350, but in fact it is a pure DKW 350, made with German equipment. An interesting fact is that Hermann Weber, the engineer who developed the original German bike, helped organize the production of the model. At the end of the 1940s, the Izh-350 was modernized in accordance with modern requirements. The motorcycle, which debuted in 1950, was called Izh-49. The model was mass-produced from 1951 to 1958.
