Review of the Honda Tact AF 30/31: a vehicle that was produced as a comfortable scooter for traveling over rough terrain. Appearance

A little about appearance. The scooter looks like most of its competitors at the time. Manufacturer Honda has not brought any innovations to the line; there are no distinctive features from other “Japanese” brands. The model has a plastic body and a slightly inclined front part. The plastic used is of fairly high quality, because even after 25 years you can find decent specimens. The turn signals are located on the steering wheel, with an oval headlight located between them.

The Tact AF 30 and AF 31 models have some differences in the braking system. Different sizes in width and weight of 1 kg. The AF 31 has a disc brake at the front, the AF 30 has a drum brake. Therefore, the Tact AF31 is more suitable for city driving than for use outside the city. The width of AF30 is 10 mm less (for AF30 - 615, AF31 - 625 mm.)

Detailed review

A few words about the appearance of the scooter. Honda has a pretty good design, although there are no distinctive features from Japanese mopeds of the 90s. Traditionally, the entire body consists of plastic, which is held on by special clips. Its quality is up to the mark and is quite durable. Rear view mirrors are installed on the sides to control the placement of the scooter on the road surface. A soft seat is installed for the driver and passenger, which allows you to feel comfortable throughout the trip.

Under the seat there is a compact trunk where you can place keys, a first aid kit and much more. There is a luggage area above the brake light. And under the control panel there is another “box” where you can also put small items.

Scooters of this model are equipped with a 50 cc engine and have a front wishbone suspension. It is less susceptible to deformation than the telescopic one, which is not suitable for an off-road scooter. The AF 30 became popular for the “throttle response” of the suspension. For this parameter, combined with the low price and unpretentiousness of the main components, the scooter has no competitors. The volume of the fuel tank is 5 liters, the oil tank is 1.2 liters.

The maximum speed is electronically limited to 60 km/h. This problem can be solved by installing a Chinese switch, but this is not recommended. As a result, the gearbox and crankshaft begin to break. The scooter is not suitable for serious tuning.

The characteristics of the Honda Tact AF 30 scooter allow us to call it a compact “workhorse”.

Engine AF24E

As in the Tact AF 24, in the AF 30/31 the manufacturer installed a 50 cc AF24E. The two-stroke single-cylinder engine is air-cooled and produces 6.1 hp at 7000 rpm. It has become famous for its reliability, but, as with almost any Japanese motorcycle, there is the problem of oil consumption, the scooter greatly depends on its quality.


The Honda Tact AF 30/31 is equipped with a 50 cc engine: AF24E, 1-cylinder, 2-stroke, 6.1 hp.

Another problem is that many AF 30/31 have a low level of gasoline in the float chamber, which leads to jerking when driving uphill.

Transmission and chassis

The standard combination is a variable-speed transmission (V-matic) with electric starter/kickstarter ignition, nothing special.


The Takt AF 30/31 has a front suspension - a pendulum lever fork, and a rear suspension - a shock absorber with a spring.

A pendulum lever fork is installed at the front, and a shock absorber with a spring is located at the rear. Depending on the model, disc or drum brakes are installed at the front (in the AF 30 there are only drum brakes).

Honda Tact is one of the most popular Japanese scooter models on the Russian motorcycle market. Where does our people’s love for this model come from and how is it justified? Who chooses the Honda Tact today and for what reasons, is it worth it or not? Let's try to figure this out.

Honda Tact is still one of the most popular scooters in the affordable price category. All Tact models are united by a pendulum fork, which makes them ideal for use on Russian roads. The pendulum fork easily absorbs all road irregularities, while on scooters with telescopic forks, any road roughness immediately hits the steering wheel. Another important plus, taking into account Russian conditions, is the ability to install wide tires on the Honda Tact at any time. This will increase the speed and maneuverability of the scooter, making it noticeably higher.

The Honda Tact is equipped with one of the most reliable and time-tested engines. There are almost never any problems with the variator, the electrics work without problems. These scooters are practically not demanding on gasoline at all. If Suzuki is unlikely to be able to painlessly switch to 92 fuel, then the Honda Tact will run on it almost forever. All Honda Tact models have a spacious glove compartment under the steering wheel, which is also lockable.

How to choose the right modification?

The main differences in the Honda Tact modifications are engine power, design, years of production and a few small but useful bells and whistles. Accordingly, the higher the number, the newer the year of production and the higher the engine power.

  • — Honda Tact AF24 — drum brake, available in two versions with and without Stand up.
  • — Honda Tact AF30 is a larger modification, compared to the AF24, which allows two people to ride comfortably on this scooter. Another significant difference with this modification is the fuel tank, which is located below, and not under the driver’s seat, as before.
  • — Honda Tact AF31 — differs from the AF30 only in the presence of a front disc brake.

Honda Tact is the best option for off-roading, which is why it is ideal for those who like to ride on rough terrain. Honda Tact scooters are not suitable for high speed driving. Compared to Yamaha scooters, they have slower acceleration and smoother throttle movement, which is important for beginners. Cornering on the Honda Tact must be done at least at a speed of 25-30 km/h, otherwise the wheel's grip on the road may not be reliable enough. If you want to buy a serious, reliable and faithful scooter that will never let you down and that you can always count on, then you are unlikely to find a better Honda Tact!

Advantages and disadvantages of Honda Tact 30/31

Advantages:

By and large, these two models are twins. Honda Tact AF30 has other years of production (1993-2001), differs in height (L 1655 x W 640 x H 1025, for AF24 – height 995 mm) and improved appearance. The 30th Tact has a little more power by 0.1 horsepower.

Honda Tact AF30 has slightly larger dimensions and allows you to comfortably carry a passenger thanks to the elongated saddle. The difference concerns the location of the fuel tank: in the Takt AF 24 it is located under the driver’s seat, and in the more recent version it is below the floor.

The turn signals in the 30th Stroke were separated from the headlights by plastic and became slightly smaller; the brake light was also changed - it became single and concave inward.
