Honda Live Dio: the latest two-strokes
The third generation of the Honda Dio scooter (factory indexes AF-34 and AF-35) began mass production in 1994, while it was produced for 5 years in parallel with the previous generation model, and its production was completed 10 years later - in 2004.
This is the last Honda Dio two-stroke scooter in the series and is therefore considered the 'best'. Subsequent four-stroke models are more economical, but they do not have the same drive as the two-stroke Live Dio and its predecessors.
By the way, unlike its predecessor, Dio AF-34/35 received significant changes not only in terms of design, but also in technical terms. The main change is the new AF34E engine with a horizontal cylinder arrangement.
Externally, the Honda Dio AF-34/35 received a modern streamlined design, the optics became crystal, and for the first time the underseat luggage compartment had a flat floor.
The model was produced in several versions:
- the basic one was the usual Live Dio AF-34, distinguished externally by drum brakes on all wheels;
- Live Dio Cesta differs from the basic configuration in a volumetric basket integrated into the front fork (such modifications are popular among Japanese housewives who prefer to travel around shops and markets on two wheels);
- Live Dio AF-35 SR – modification with front disc brake;
- Live Dio AF-35 SR CB – modification with a combined braking system that distributes braking forces 30% to the front and 70% to the rear wheel;
- Live Dio AF-35 ST – distinguished by the presence of an ABS system;
- Live Dio AF-35 ZX is a sports modification, characterized by an oil shock absorber, front disc brake, a more powerful engine and a rear spoiler.
The most valuable modification today is the AF-35 ZX, although they are not easy to find in stock condition.
Pros, cons and features
The third “series” of the popular urban scooter Dio continued the glorious path of development of the family. The AF-34/35 model turned out better in everything - design, power, efficiency... and so on, while maintaining traditional reliability.
In the city, the Honda Dio is ideal, but since 2013, when mandatory driving licenses were introduced for scooters up to 50cc, these lightweight scooters are used mainly in rural areas.
The Live Dio is better suited for carrying luggage thanks to the already mentioned flat floor in the luggage compartment.
As for repairs, the third generation model is still structurally simple, but work with the piston group will require partial disassembly of the engine - the diagonal arrangement of the AF34E cylinder obliges.
If you do not take into account the engine, otherwise repairing the scooter does not cause problems, and there are now enough spare parts (although you have to order and wait for the Japanese original).
Technical characteristics of Dio AF-34/35

Honda Dio AF-34/35 is one of the best inexpensive used Japanese scooters currently available. If you need a model up to 50 cubes, then Live Dio is ideal. Two-stroke Dios were no longer produced after the AF-34/35.
The cost of the third generation model on the secondary market starts from 14,000 rubles and ends somewhere around 40,000 rubles (depending on condition). There are more expensive versions, but they are just complete stuffing, such a scooter is definitely not for beginners.

Scooter Honda Dio 34, characteristics and advantages of this model
The Honda Dio 34 scooter is made in Japan. That is, there should be no questions about quality, since Japan produces only excellent quality motorcycles. According to its characteristics, the moped is very good. The weight is not large, only 70 kg, but even with such a low weight it is quite powerful. It was created for high-speed driving in the city, and for successful movement in traffic jams. In comparison with other models, which are basically similar to each other, this model has been equipped with significant improvements. For example, improvements have been made to the engine and design. The engine has become more powerful, and easily reaches a speed of 60 km/h. And combined with its small size, this gives you have a huge advantage in traffic jams. This model is the most powerful in the series of scooters from the manufacturer Honda. Although the stated maximum acceleration speed is 60 km/h, many owners give information that they accelerated 10-15 km more than the declared figure. The design also became more interesting, elegant streamlined shapes appeared, as well as crystal optics. Instead of steel wheels, they began to install cast ones, which adds additional beauty to the scooter. Now it has become possible to transport any luggage, since the underseat trunk has a flat floor, which makes the task much easier. The brakes have also been improved. The scooter is equipped with improved braking capability, front disc and rear drum brakes. This allows you to feel more confident on the road, and in case of a critical situation, you can easily brake, without jerking and without losing your balance. The length of the scooter is also small, only 1675 mm, width 630, and height 995 mm. And even despite such small dimensions, the scooter can fit two small passengers on its seat. The maximum weight for this scooter is 150 kg. The fuel tank volume is 5 liters, and the consumption is only 1.85 liters per 100 km. It follows from this that with the current rise in gasoline prices, purchasing such a scooter is a very economical solution. There is also an anti-theft agent. With the help of a leg lock, it will not be easy to steal a scooter. Repairs will also not be a big problem. Spare parts are easy to find from the Japanese, since these scooters are popular. But in fact, they break down quite rarely, and most often from the careless attitude of the owner. If you take care of the scooter, it will last a very long time and without repair. When choosing the Honda Dio 34, you get a reliable and quite maneuverable scooter, with which you will forget about traffic jams and get maximum pleasure from riding.
Honda Dio AF34
The scooter of the famous Japanese brand Honda Dio AF 34 is rightfully considered one of the most successful models of this brand, which has not yet lost its popularity and relevance among scooterists all over the world.
This scooter gained incredible popularity thanks to its well-thought-out design, which, after a long time, looks quite adequate and harmonious on our roads. Let's add here excellent workmanship and amazing reliability of all components and mechanisms. As a result, we received the best-selling scooter in the entire history of the company. The Honda Dio AF34 scooter is a device for young and active people who love speed and ease of movement, who value good quality and reliability of equipment. This is a device with a clear claim to a certain sportiness, both in technical characteristics and in appearance: even the seat is designed strictly for one pilot, without any hint of a passenger seat.
Honda Dio AF 34 is a continuation of the line of sports scooters under the Dio brand, which has been produced almost from the very beginning of the Honda company. This device replaced its older brother Honda Dio AF 27, and is its logical continuation. The manufacturers left all the easily recognizable family features of the model, leaving the interior virtually untouched. Significant changes affected the power unit and transmission.
The 50 cm3 two-stroke engine produced more than 7 horsepower and had an impressive torque, which together gave incredible acceleration dynamics in almost any engine operating mode. The suspension, compared to the previous model, remained untouched: in front there are conventional dry spring forks, in the rear there is a fairly powerful monoshock absorber with progressive characteristics.
The braking system also has not undergone any changes and remains classic: drum brakes on all wheels, which in no way affects the quality of braking; the scooter stops very confidently at almost any speed and on any road surface.
The ergonomics of this device are at a very good level and are considered almost ideal for models of this class, all the buttons are convenient, the switches are accessible and the instruments are readable and understandable. There is nothing superfluous here, and everything necessary is screwed to the right place.
You can buy this scooter inexpensively in our stores located in convenient places in Moscow. If necessary, equipment is delivered using the company’s own transport or third-party carriers.
Technical equipment of the model
Honda Dio AF 34 is the most powerful scooter among all models of this manufacturer. It can participate in both long-distance and traffic light racing. The installed two-stroke engine with a volume of only 49.9 cubic centimeters shows excellent results. It produces power up to seven horsepower and up to six and a half thousand revolutions per minute.
Air cooling. Variable transmission. A telescopic fork is installed at the front. At the rear there is a shock absorber with a spring. The drum-type brake system will allow you to stop quickly, but without jerking.
By choosing the Honda Dio AF 34, buyers will always receive a powerful, maneuverable, reliable and stylish scooter.
The difference between the Honda Dio AF 34 and Dio AF 35 scooters
The Honda production holding owns not only the production of cars, but also the production of motorcycles, both sports class and budget - scooters and small motorcycles. There are two models of Honda scooters on the market - Dio AF34 and Dio AF35. Externally, the scooters look exactly the same, have an identical headlight, the same gas tank capacity, maximum speed, engine size and top speed. Both scooters use a CVT transmission with an automatic clutch. The main differences between these models is Honda's modification of the Dio AF34 scooter. On the next model, the Dio AF35, the front wheel brake was replaced from a drum to a disc, which provides greater braking force and braking efficiency compared to a drum. Another difference between the 35th model and the previous one is an increase in engine power from 7.0 horsepower to 7.2, thereby providing faster acceleration.
The manufacturer did not change the engine size or its design; the main change was the modification of the carburetor, which provides a richer fuel mixture. The Honda holding company did not modify the transmission, since the safety margin of the mechanisms and gears provides for an almost doubling of power, without noticeable design changes to the unit itself. In the Honda Dio AF35 model, along with an increase in engine power, fuel consumption has also increased. Now, instead of 1.85 liters, 100 kilometers will require 2 liters. Of course, such changes in fuel consumption are averaged and will be practically unnoticeable in everyday use, but the engine power will differ significantly, given the low weight of the scooter’s design.
Otherwise, the 34th model has not undergone any changes, the engine still has the same engine starting system - kickstarter and electric starter, the engine volume has remained unchanged and the type of engine cooling is air. The front axle of the 35th model has adopted the already proven telescopic fork, which reliably smoothes out all road irregularities, and the rear axle of the scooter is equipped with a spring shock absorber, providing maximum comfort and softness when driving. In general, the AF34 and AF35 models are very close to each other in functionality, appearance and configuration; the main differences are an increase in engine power, as well as a change in the brake system of the scooter, which increases the safety of movement on this type of transport.
