Polaris Ranger 570 all-terrain vehicle: a station wagon that debunks stereotypes

all the beauty of side-by-side when you find yourself behind the wheel of a truly well-made UTV. After all, when a machine is designed and assembled according to all the canons, it is in no way inferior in cross-country ability to classic ATVs, and as for the convenience and utility of use, there is nothing even to compare!

To tell the truth, before I met the Polaris Ranger 570 EFI , my attitude towards UTVs was not even ambivalent, but extremely negative. The maneuverability of such vehicles is excellent; Even 800 cc mini-trucks react extremely reluctantly to pressing the gas; the dimensions are such that there is no point in going into the forest in such a “wheelbarrow”...

In general, no matter where you throw it, there are continuous disadvantages. It makes more sense, honestly, to buy a Niva. At least it's warm and dry. But having tested Polaris’ new 2014 product, the attitude towards side-by-side became diametrically opposed.

Big and nimble SUV

Polaris Ranger 570 all-terrain vehicle killed all the stereotypes associated with UTVs. Despite its dimensions, which clearly exceed those of a standard ATV, the maneuverability of this machine can be the envy of warehouse forklifts!

We won’t lie: it turns, of course, not on the spot, but in a patch where in two steps an ordinary quad changes the vector of its movement by 180 degrees, the Ranger 570 also turns in the same two passes. That is, even if you find yourself in a dense forest, you have to maneuver between the birch trees is nothing for our hero.

It seemed to us that the vehicle we received for testing had electric power steering, but a detailed study of the UTV design did not find anything similar. The designers managed the impossible: even when standing still, the steering wheel rotates with the palm of your hand.

The instrument panel is incredibly simple. Shows speed, remaining fuel, mileage, transmission mode and time. A quick glance at the “tidy” is enough to understand what’s what. The button for locking the rear axle and connecting the front end is located, as they say, at hand. Underneath there is a cigarette lighter socket, thanks to which you can recharge your mobile phone and organize additional lighting.

At the same time, the pilot’s seat, despite the fact that there are no adjustments for the reach and tilt of the steering column, cannot be moved or moved forward, is fantastically comfortable. Even a well-fed, tall man is more than comfortable behind the wheel. The elbows are bent naturally, the stomach does not rest against the steering wheel and, most importantly, the pedal assembly is ergonomically made, that is, the gas and brake are separated by a sufficient distance and even in felt boots it will be difficult to confuse the pedals.

Moreover, Polaris engineers approached the pedal assembly so competently that when you move your foot from the gas to the brake, you don’t “stumble” due to the fact that the brake is higher than the gas (this problem is usually found on Chinese UTVs).

ATVs Ranger xp 900 eps

For 2015, polaris is also introducing three new deluxe ranger xp 900 eps models: the off-road ranger xp 900 eps vogue silver deluxe, the ranger xp 900 eps hunter deluxe edition for hunters, and the cold weather ranger xp 900 eps northstar deluxe edition.

GPS connectivity shows the vehicle's exact position, including altitude, latitude and longitude, compass and the ability to record the driver's route and save waypoints. In order not to lose contact, the display can be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth and read incoming messages, see missed calls, phone battery charge level and communication signal strength. The new digital display will also be available as an optional accessory for other models.

Ranger xp 900 eps hunter deluxe edition

For those who like to hunt in extreme conditions, polaris offers the ranger xp 900 eps hunter deluxe edition, painted in camouflage. It fits with a pro-fit cab and camouflage half-doors. The cabin comes complete with a glass, pop-up windshield and rear glass panel. For additional protection when conquering forest trails, the all-terrain vehicle is equipped with front and rear protective grilles and underbody protection. Standard Electric Power Steering and Engine Braking System (EBS) reduce driver fatigue and make hill descents easier, even under load. The model is equipped with a polaris hd winch with a traction force of 2041 kg, it will help tow large prey or pull out a stuck fellow. The Ranger xp 900 eps hunter deluxe edition has heated seats to keep you warm on cold mornings, a lock and ride case and special cases for guns for storage.

Ranger xp 900 eps northstar edition

Ranger xp 900 eps northstar edition is able to cope with the most extreme cold. It's the first ranger to offer heated seats as standard and a fully winter-ready cabin. The windshield wipers, dome light and rearview mirror are not found on any other ATV and provide a comfortable experience. Ranger xp 900 eps northstar edition can be purchased in sunset red.

All three deluxe models will go on sale in early September.

Need for Speed

It’s hard to understand right away: how a heavy UTV with an engine capacity of only 570 cubic centimeters can “shoot” from a standstill with such agility! Other manufacturers' 800cc utility UTVs don't come close to competing with the Ranger 570 .

This is amazing: I pressed the “slipper” to the floor, and in a matter of seconds our Polaris turns into a point on the horizon. At the same time, please note that this is not a “double-barreled shotgun”, but an ordinary single-cylinder injection engine with a power of 45 “horses”.

There is a sense of great potential in the power unit, because even when the Ranger is battling severe off-road conditions, there is no hint that the engine is struggling: it does not try to slow down or ask for mercy with the characteristic knocking in the engine. Users of Chinese UTVs will understand what we're talking about better than anyone else.

The Polaris Ranger 570 EFI powertrain is located under the dump body. From a service point of view, it is a very convenient and practical solution. And the weight distribution of the UTV, thanks to this engine layout, is more than successful.

What was also surprising was the complete absence of vibrations. Usually single-cylinder engines are guilty of this, and when you saddle such a side-by-side, there is a complete illusion that you are sitting astride a washing machine operating in the “spin” mode.

How did the Polaris Ranger 570 developers manage to dampen vibrations?

  • Well, firstly, this is a smartly made and balanced motor.
  • Secondly, the engine itself is not rigidly attached to the frame, but through good damping pads, which eliminate the transmission of any vibrations from the engine to other parts of the UTV.

Ranger crew 900 all-terrain vehicles

Introduced in 2013, the ranger xp 900 redefined a whole new class of hard-working, smooth-riding vehicles and has become one of the most popular side-by-side all-terrain vehicles for work and outdoor use. . In 2014, all the advantages of the ranger xp 900 were used in the new ranger crew 900 multi-seater model.

Beauty matters

The exterior of the Polaris Ranger 570 is definitely pleasing to the eye. And the saying “There are no comrades according to taste” is clearly not about our subject. With his brutality, he will bribe not only men, but also their companions.

Clear cut shapes seem to emphasize the strong-willed and uncompromising character of the all-terrain vehicle, the “frowning” headlights and massive radiator grille immediately make it clear that this is not a “SUV”, but a seasoned SUV for the most serious tasks.

It is clear that the designers worked on the appearance of the Ranger 570 not in smoke breaks between other projects, but for a long time and painstakingly, bringing every touch to perfection. This is understandable, because appearance is one of the decisive criteria in the question of whether to buy or not to buy.

The load capacity of the dump body is almost 230 kilos! So even a very large trophy can be achieved by “Ranger”.

The Ranger 570 SUV, we repeat, is clearly a utilitarian UTV, as evidenced not only by the tipper body, but even by the seat. If in the same Polaris RZR we see two separate sports “buckets” for the steering wheel and the passenger, then in our case it is a single sofa, like in a truck. But despite the fact that the Ranger has a full-width monolithic seat, there are only two seats: for the pilot and the navigator. In theory, you can seat a child in the middle, but there are no seat belts to fasten a young passenger.

In terms of options, the Ranger 570 all-terrain vehicle is not stuffed with anything special:

  • Two pedals
  • steering wheel,
  • gear selector,
  • dashboard,
  • ignition switch (also the headlight switch),
  • 12 Volt socket
  • and a drive system selection button.

In general, quite ascetic. But almost all famous brands do not pamper their customers with “full stuffing”. However, if you the Polaris Ranger 570 not as a show car, but as a machine for hunting in deep off-road conditions, then all you need to add to it is an electric winch.

Tough but safe

I would like to share my impressions about the operation of the suspension. At first it seemed a little harsh, especially when at speed we crossed the track dug out by jeeps at a right angle. This is despite the fact that the Ranger has 203mm of front suspension travel and 229mm of rear suspension travel. If we had not been wearing seat belts, we would definitely have ejected. ATVs are more “springy” in this regard.

However, we soon realized why the Polaris Ranger 570 is not very comfortable to jump over bumps. Thanks to its rigidity, the all-terrain vehicle literally “sticks” to the ground. And no matter how we tried to put the subject on two side wheels, nothing worked. And the handling at speed thanks to the stiffness of the suspension is simply excellent!

The suspension on the Ranger 570 can feel a little wobbly. But at low speeds, bumps and irregularities are swallowed up with a bang.

The transmission on the Ranger 570 has traditional modes:

  • “H” is a high gear in which the all-terrain vehicle can accelerate to 80 km/h. It would go faster, but there is an electronic limiter that prevents the UTV from exceeding the limit.
  • “L” - lowering, necessary to overcome very difficult places.
  • “N” - neutral gear;
  • "R" - reverse.
  • And there is also a “P” mode - parking, which acts as a “handbrake”.

The selector, in principle, works clearly, but the distance between the gears is small and often, instead of reverse, we put it into parking, and the desire to shift down was “stumbled” over neutral gear. Although this is probably a matter of habit.

UTV from Polaris will fit perfectly into any suburban area. He will become an excellent and indispensable household assistant.

I was pleased, there is no other way to say it, with the system for locking the rear differential and connecting all-wheel drive. Everything works instantly. You drive in rear-wheel drive with the differential unlocked on the asphalt, drive out onto the ground, stop, press the rear axle lock button - and you can immediately move on.

It’s the same with connecting the front axle: you get stuck, take your foot off the gas pedal, press the front end connection button - and consider that you’ve already got out.
