The CF Moto X8 ATV is a heavyweight fighter. And in every sense at once - it really weighs more than 400 kg , and at the same time it is equipped with an 800 cc V-twin with a subversive character. An efficient and energy-intensive suspension gives the owner the opportunity to feel like an off-road king, and a large power reserve turns this all-terrain vehicle into a tourist’s best friend. Although its main purpose is to give its owner huge doses of adrenaline, and it copes with this task perfectly.
Design
Against the background of a bunch of faceless Chinese ATVs, the CF Moto X8 stands out in the most striking way. The massive front end with an angled radiator grille makes it look somewhat heavy, but the widely spaced wheels and overall harmony of lines add confidence and aggressiveness to the look. It is possible that the Chinese attracted some famous designers to develop the appearance of this model.
Main competitors
The CFmoto 500 doesn’t have many competitors. The main competitors of the model were:
- American Polaris Athlete 500.
- Russian Stealth Leopard 600.
- Domestic device Russian Mechanics RM 500.
Within the CF Moto line, some buyers pay attention to the more powerful model SF moto x8 or cfmoto x6, cf moto x5.

Specifications
In an effort to keep production costs low and at the same time achieve technical characteristics that would make the ATV capable of competing with eminent competitors, Chinese engineers resort to a variety of tricks. The CF Moto X8, for example, turned out to be very powerful and maneuverable, but at the same time large and very heavy.
Engine
Who said the joys of a V-twin are only for those on two wheels? CFMoto X8 is equipped with a high-torque 800 cc liquid-cooled V-twin , capable of pleasing the owner with 65 horsepower and 72 Nm of torque. The engine is powered by an injector (in early versions - from a carburetor), and we can say that it loves high speeds - peak power and peak torque are at 6700 rpm and 6200 rpm, respectively. At the same time, if you look at the torque curve, you will find that the traction at the bottom is also present, and powerful enough to pull out an ATV stuck in the mud with a powerful jerk. The maximum speed that it is capable of developing, according to information from the manufacturer, is 108 km/h .
Transmission
CVT transmission for ATVs , nothing particularly remarkable. It works - and good! Moreover, it works well and “doesn’t dull”, as ATV fans like to say. A reduction gear is present, and there is a lot of benefit from it, but it is worth keeping in mind that its inclusion increases the load on the gearbox, which is not very durable, since the X8 inherited it from the younger model in the line, CFMoto X6. But reverse, alas, is not provided.
Chassis and brakes
The CFMoto X8 has a fully independent suspension , with A-arms at the front and H-arms at the rear. Free travel is 170mm and 225mm front and rear respectively - more than enough to cope with even the worst roads. Braking is handled by two wheel brake discs at the front and a transmission brake disc at the rear, with the circuits operating independently of each other.
Electronics
The designers did a good job to protect the electronic components and wiring from possible moisture. If you wish, you can drown an ATV, but you will have to try hard to do this - it copes well with crossing shallow water obstacles and is not afraid of moisture. But in the event of a breakdown, you will have to dig deeper, understanding dozens of meters of wires.
Weight and dimensions
With a length of 231 cm and a width of 118 cm, the ATV looks very large. So it is, the impression is not deceptive, and it weighs a lot - the dry weight is 405 kg, and with the driver and technical fluids it immediately exceeds half a ton. Due to this weight, the ATV tends to get stuck deep in the mud, but wide wheels, a well-balanced engine and a reduction gear help overcome dangerous terrain.
Controllability
The dimensions of the CF Moto do not suggest that this massive carcass is capable of being controlled with such ease. It is not known what exactly the engineers from China conjured there, but this heavy all-terrain vehicle steers amazingly easily. This even eliminates the difficulties in control that may arise due to its significant mass.
Fuel consumption
Gasoline consumption in the combined cycle fluctuates around the mark of 5-5.5 liters AI-92 , but off-road consumption immediately increases. The gas tank capacity is 23 liters , and this is enough even for intensive races with overnight stays somewhere in the field and subsequent continuation the next day.
And if you attach a couple of cans of gasoline to the ATV, it can be used as an expedition vehicle, since the high level of comfort allows this.
The emergence of a trademark
The production of wheeled vehicles from the now popular brand started back in the 50s of the 19th century. Since then, the entire range of proposed equipment has received improvements. At the beginning of the 20th century, muscular traction on equipment was mainly used. After the spread of internal combustion engines, models that consumed gasoline began to appear.
A major management reorganization took place in the late 1980s. Modern two-wheeled motorcycles have been in production since the 90s. The Asian industrial manufacturer has been presenting new ATVs in its modern form since 2003. Due to high demand and decent quality, the annual export volume of products reaches 13 million units per year.
In Russian showrooms, these products have become available since 2007 at the expense of AVM-TRADE. This is confirmed by the website of the company registered in St. Petersburg.
SF Moto ATVs enjoy great confidence due to various factors:
- products have many certificates of quality and reliability;
- High-tech equipment for diagnostics and assembly is used in production;
- spare parts for ATVs undergo careful selection thanks to a multi-stage inspection system of the testing department;
- The company employs 3,000 highly qualified employees.
By improving the technical characteristics of products, the company significantly increases production volumes. Also recently, emphasis has been placed on the production of the following types of machines:
- CF ATVs with injection engines;
- ultra-safe sports devices;
- street models;
- multi-tasking four-wheeled motor vehicle.
Tourist and multi-seat versions are also offered to users.
ATV price
Currently, the CFMoto X8 has already been discontinued, so it will not be possible to purchase a new copy, but there are plenty of offers for sale on the secondary market. Prices vary from 350 to 600 thousand rubles , and the newer the device, the more expensive it is. At the time of writing the review, the most expensive offers (2017-2018 production) were offered in the range of 500-580 thousand rubles , and the cheapest, released in 2012-2013, cost no more than 350 thousand . But dealers have the Basic Restyle model, which is practically no different, and it costs about 660 thousand.
Repair and tuning
Any off-road equipment requires frequent maintenance and periodic repairs. The more expensive it is initially, the more all these operations cost. The CFMoto X8 ATV is not cheap, so when buying it, it is better to mentally prepare for the potential costs in advance.
Repair
Self-repair and maintenance of the X8 is quite possible, especially if the owner’s hands grow from the right place and he has a garage with tools. Visits to dealer service are not cheap, so if you don’t want or have the opportunity to repair an ATV on your own, the best solution would be to look for some kind of wide-profile ATV service, where the mechanics know their stuff.
Spare parts
Dealers usually have everything you need in stock, and many components fit from other CF Moto ATVs. But the cost of some components is high, comparable to the price of similar spare parts for Japanese all-terrain vehicles. On the other hand, almost everything you might need for repairs and maintenance is still cheaper. And reliability largely depends on operating conditions - the more extreme they are, the more often you will have to tinker around in the garage.
Tuning
Most owners of this model are mainly engaged in refining and eliminating design defects, rather than deep tuning. But more powerful winches with extended cables, branch guards and other little things designed to make life easier for tough off-road conquerors are also popular. Tuning costs a lot, but it also brings a lot of benefits.
Advantages and disadvantages of purchasing
Analysis of CFMoto ATVs, a real assessment of their advantages, as well as an analysis of the weak points of the design will help you decide on the choice of an all-terrain vehicle.
CFMoto ATVs have an attractive appearance
Let's start with the advantages, which include:
- attractive appearance of the manufactured ATV models, which are not inferior in design to products from well-known companies;
- use of high-quality equipment made in Japanese, German and Italian, which guarantees trouble-free operation of motor vehicles;
- the possibility of comfortable and safe movement of the driver together with the passenger, because all produced all-terrain vehicles have 2 seats;
- expanded equipment for ATVs in the basic version, including alloy wheels, winches, hand guards, cargo platforms and power steering;
- two-year warranty on all ATV models, as well as on components and power units, regardless of total mileage.
Important advantages are the ease of use of the equipment, a high degree of reliability, excellent quality, affordable price, as well as a wide network of service centers that service all-terrain vehicles at a professional level.
Speaking of disadvantages, it should be noted that this vehicle is not capable of replacing a passenger car with a closed body, which can carry several passengers and has a more spacious trunk. An ATV is also not always safe to operate when driving at high speed, which requires driver training and mastery of driving skills.
The ease of use of the equipment is an important advantage
ATV modifications
Depending on the year of manufacture, the CFMoto X8 was equipped with either a carburetor or an injection ( EFI modification ). There are no other differences between copies of different years of production, except for the color scheme. Chinese companies rarely develop the same model for a long time, preferring to replace it with a new, improved and modified one every few years. In this case, such a model was CFMoto X8 Basic Restyle , which, however, is almost no different from the original.
Advantages and disadvantages
Trying to gain their market share, Chinese manufacturers offer customers good technical characteristics at a low price. But to keep costs affordable, they have to use outdated technology, which sometimes leads to design weaknesses. CFMoto X8 confirms this rule well - it has enough strengths, it is powerful and fast, but some minor flaws can greatly spoil the impression of this all-terrain vehicle as a whole.
Advantages
- The presence of a reduction gear helps to overcome particularly difficult sections of rough terrain.
- Possibility to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
- High-torque engine , capable of pulling a 400-kilogram ATV almost anywhere.
- High payload capacity , the CF Moto X8 can easily carry rider, passenger and large amounts of cargo.
- Good maneuverability and a small turning radius, despite the fact that the dimensions of the CF Moto of this model are quite large.
Flaws
- No reverse gear . In some situations this can be critical.
- weak frame may not withstand extreme loads. In owner reviews, information about problems with it sometimes slips through.
- Low ground clearance , due to which the all-terrain vehicle periodically clings to road bumps with its bottom.
- High mass . This disadvantage is partly compensated by a truly powerful engine.

Owner reviews
I owned the previous model, X6, so when I wanted a more powerful quadric, I chose the X8 - I was familiar with the brand, everything was fine with the previous device. I bought a new quad at a discount for 550k from a dealer, and after running it in immediately started working on a proven route. Compared to the six hundred, the difference in traction is noticeable; where the X6 was stuck in a swamp, the X8 passed confidently in the same conditions, it didn’t even have to be pulled. I service it according to the manual, there were no problems, except for a broken mirror and the replacement of the front gearbox under warranty at the dealer. Boris, Voskresensk.
A good ATV, but not without its flaws. The main complaint is about the radiator, or more precisely, about the way it is installed. If you don't drive only in dry weather, it quickly becomes clogged with dirt and the engine starts to heat up. There is a solution - we simply move the radiator by installing a remote control, but this is still a design flaw. The headlights are also in need of replacement, for good reason, the original light bulbs are as useful as a flashlight, you need to install xenon, the beast is not found in the forest anyway. You also need to monitor the overload, otherwise the shock absorbers will quickly die, and they cost from 20k per pair. But these are minor things, for its price the CF Moto X8 has no competitors anyway - everything that exists is either worse or more expensive. Vasily, Dmitrov.
A real tractor! It rushes everywhere, practically did not have to lower the gears, and in all-wheel drive it drives everywhere calmly. I drive almost always at full throttle, but if you turn on 2WD, it starts to noticeably skid when cornering. The quad is heavy, but it steers excellently and climbs between trees with ease. There’s plenty of dope, the winch is reliable, I’ve had the opportunity to pull myself and my friends out more than once. Anton, Moscow.

FAQ
- How well is the underbody protected? Is there a risk of damaging anything? There is always a risk, but the CFMoto X8's standard bottom protection works well, despite the low ground clearance.
- Are parts from other Chinese ATVs suitable for it? Many parts fit from other models of the same manufacturer. You can also order something from Chinese online stores, but it is not profitable to buy heavy units this way due to the high cost of delivery.
- I saw information in the review that its shock absorbers leak frequently. This is true? No. The suspension of this model is reliable, designed for its considerable weight, and you don’t have to worry about its survivability unless you are doing real extreme sports like jumping on an ATV from trampolines.

Conclusion
If 500-600 cc is not enough for you, and you really want to get a personal “tank” that can overcome any dirt, then the CF Moto X8 will be a good choice, especially on a limited budget. Its design looks slightly outdated compared to modern competitors from other countries, but it costs noticeably less, and the maintenance costs a moderate amount. And its technical characteristics are not so inferior to the “Japanese” and “Americans” that they would overpay double the price for it. But this model should not be recommended to beginners - its large size, impressive weight and powerful engine require careful handling, and such skills only come with experience.
