The Stels ATV 600 Y Leopard ATV is the result of a decision to take reliability and quality indicators, as well as the availability of components, to a new level. The initial stage of production of the ATV implies the presence of a body transferred from another equally famous model, Hisun ATV 500. This was done so that many elements were interchangeable between these models. Thus, there are no problems when searching for spare parts.

The Stealth ATV 600 Leopard model is equipped with a dashboard from the manufacturer Koso. This element turned out to be very informative and clearly displays information regardless of temperature conditions.

One of the key advantages of an ATV is predictable handling and riding comfort. The equipment perfectly maintains its stability even when taking sharp turns. It should also be noted that the machine has an impressive margin of safety. This was largely due to the efficient suspension.

Stels 600 Leopard on Russian off-roads

in 2014, it pleases fans of off-road motorcycles not only with new scooters, motorcycles and Side-By-Side all-terrain vehicles, but also with a rather interesting model of a new ATV, the development is based on a completely new design concept. The full name of the new car is Stels 600Y Leopard .

It is interesting because all the design thought was concentrated on this model. It was here that all the latest developments were applied and a very decent experience in the production and operation of components and parts, tested in many competitions on models such as the ATV700H and ATV500H, was taken into account. When developing this car, the designers tried to exclude cheap Chinese equipment and focused on domestic products. And only in the absence of Russian equipment, it was purchased from well-known Italian, Japanese and Taiwanese companies. In addition, the new model underwent endurance tests in order to identify weak points in the entire design of the machine. As a result of the latest road tests in rather harsh conditions, the ATV traveled on Russian roads for more than 8,000 km, without any breakdowns.

The frames for this ATV are designed by local designers and are completely manufactured on a robotic line. This is a complete production cycle from pipe preparation to painting, which gives complete confidence in their quality. The same applies to other structural elements, both stamped and forged. For example, the wheel hubs are also of our own production, although they use bearings from the famous Japanese company Koyo. Wheel rims are cast at the factory from light alloy for tires AT26x9-12" - front and AT26x10-12" - rear. The independent, double-wishbone suspension is equipped with shock absorbers from the famous Taiwanese company Forsa, which are famous for their high reliability, smooth ride and energy intensity. Front shock absorber travel is 170 mm, rear shock absorber travel is 225 mm.

The power unit for the Stels Leopard was used almost of its own design - it was so redesigned and improved by Russian engineers. Initially, this 4-stroke 1-cylinder engine was created for heavier vehicles, but already in Russia its crankcase was modified, the suspension points were changed, and the gas distribution system was recalculated and optimized. In combination with a Japanese Mikuni carburetor, an engine with a displacement of 594 cm3, after a series of modifications by Velomotors specialists, develops a torque of 54 Nm and a power of 38 hp at 4250 rpm. With. at 5500 rpm.

Absolutely all transmission components - gearboxes, drives and cardan shafts are optimized for the parameters of the already modified engine. Transmission elements are supplied by well-known Taiwanese companies, whose components are consistently supplied to the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers. The oil clutch is made according to the centrifugal principle, the transmission is a V-belt variator. Axle operating modes can be switched according to the 2WD/4WD and 4WD schemes with the possibility of manually locking the front differential, as well as upshifting and downshifting.

The dual-circuit braking system of the new ATV, developed in collaboration with Taiwanese manufacturers, is very reliable and effective. Rear and front brakes are hydraulically driven disc brakes using highly reliable reinforced hoses. The LCD-based dashboard manufactured by Koso is capable of operating at any temperature, which is especially important when working in winter. Simple and intuitive controls, as well as the presence of all the necessary light and sound devices, allow you to operate the ATV both off-road and in the city or on the highway.

As for the highway, the Stels Leopard quite easily reaches 100 km/h, while the fuel tank volume of 17 liters is enough for more than 300 km. The ATV can start both from an electric starter - all equipment is 12-volt, and from a kickstarter, which is very useful for all-terrain vehicles operating in the harsh conditions of Russian off-road. And, of course, the new car has a tow bar and a winch. In addition, there is a fairly decent trunk, on which it is convenient to place a trunk during tuning. So fans of off-road tourism can also count on multi-day hikes.

The weight of the car in running order is only 319 kg. Cross-country ability is ensured, in addition to the all-terrain tire tread, by a fairly decent ground clearance of 320 mm with a wheelbase of 1365 mm. Dimensions – 2250x1210x1225 mm with seat height – 880 mm. However, it should be recognized that for all-terrain vehicles, if two people are driving, such a wheelbase is too small.

Times change. Relatively recently, the ATV was perceived exclusively as an expensive toy, the lot of wealthy people.


But now in the most remote province you can find quadrics with Chinese-Taiwanese roots. Of course, some people cannot afford such a purchase, but still many can already afford to have this equipment.

They don't like domestic cars. When purchasing products from the Volga Automobile Plant, a person, of course, does not think that he owns something like a Toyota or KIA. But you can drive. It's about the same with ATVs. It would be naive to think that the Stels Leopard is the same as the Yamaha Grizzly, which it was clearly designed with an eye on. For example, “Grizzly” is very soft, and “Leopard” is somewhat oaky in comparison. If you haven’t ridden a Yamaha before, then you can’t say anything bad about the Stealth suspension. I repeat: you can drive completely.

I immediately removed the passenger backrest. Firstly, I mostly travel alone, and secondly, the backrest makes it difficult to transport something on the rear trunk. This is something - for example, a can of gasoline. According to my calculations, fuel consumption is about 14 l/100 km. This means that a full tank (17 l) will be enough for 120 kilometers. I’ll continue measuring. The fuel gauge, by the way, shamelessly underestimates the readings, which was noted earlier - it is wiser to focus on the mileage traveled.


The terrible heat emanating from the right side of the car from the exhaust pipe of the muffler still annoys me. The hoses of the engine cooling system laid next to the pipe are wrapped in heat-reflecting material, but it has already completely melted. Oddly enough, the hoses are still holding on. I have serious concerns about burning my pant leg, not to mention how annoying it is on a hot day. But in the rain and when it’s cool it’s nothing. It’s even worse, I think, in winter. Jokes aside, this is an obvious flaw of the designers. You need some kind of screen that reflects heat. “Stealth” vehicles are made here, so there is great hope that the plant will eliminate this mistake.

Not everything can be carried on the trunk. I needed to attach a car trailer, and then I was faced with the fact that it was impossible to do! There is a towbar at the back, but the trailer tongue does not fit onto the ball. It turned out that the diameter of the ball was 50.25 mm instead of an even fifty-kopeck piece. These 25 hundredths do not allow you to put on the drawbar. I had to screw on the tow bar removed from the car. By the way, there was a smaller thread diameter - a bushing was needed. What should someone do if they don’t have the right towbar at hand?

Okay, the trailer is hooked, now I need to pull it along with the jetski (let’s have a rest - so to the fullest!) up a steep short hill. The downshift falls out under load. Apparently, the rod going from the lever to the box is poorly adjusted. I need to address this issue, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet - I’m holding the lever with my hand. But whatever you think, the Leopard doesn’t want to pull a trailer. In the end, after the nth attempt, I finally climbed the hill, but such terrifying sounds came from the quad’s transmission! In my opinion, the variator was slipping, but they say that it is powerful here, since it was borrowed from a UTV. Also, when driving together, the quad was unable to pull us out of the river onto a steep bank when the wheels got stuck in the silt. However, I did not find any water in the variator casing. By the way, it’s very easy to check its presence and, if necessary, drain it - just remove the rubber plug. Even Yamaha didn’t think of this! I will continue testing under maximum loads to be more objective.

Having found another exit from the ford, I accelerated so hard that the quadric landed on its rear wheels, after which it tipped over backwards. It’s a pity that there was no time for photography at that moment! They put the car on its wheels and then discovered that the rear light had cracked. It is luxurious, large and bright, but perhaps you could have something more modest on a utilitarian quad. In addition, as it turned out, he is easily vulnerable. And what’s even worse is that in order to remove the glass, you need to disassemble almost half a square. The same is for replacing a light bulb in a flashlight, as reported in the “Operating Instructions”. This is, of course, inconvenient. So, I have questions about the operation of the transmission under maximum traction, about how it transmits torque. But even without any load, when the quad flies with the gas released, not everything is ideal either. An unpleasant noise, some kind of buzzing, and rattling of gears emanate from the transmission. A similar picture is observed on my old UAZ. Apparently, in both cases, the quality of fit of the gears in the units leaves much to be desired.

On a good road you can accelerate to 90 km/h - more than enough. But it’s unreasonable to drive far, so we load the quad onto a trailer. Having arrived at the place, I discovered that the gasoline in the tank had decreased. Apparently, due to shaking on the road, the carburetor float valve was leaking, and I did not close the fuel valve. Because I don't understand how to do it! The tap handle on the left side of the quad is extremely indistinct, there are no clear positions, besides, the ON, OFF and RES symbols are printed on the casing, but there is no arrow on the tap itself. It’s unclear what to combine with what. Okay, add gas and go ahead - the long test of the Stels ATV 600Y Leopard continues.

Stealth Leopard 600: powerful utility

One of the most famous domestic manufacturers of equipment is the company that has developed the utilitarian ATV Stealth Leopard 600. A well-protected machine with a steel frame and a powerful engine is perfect for work and leisure. The versatile vehicle easily overcomes wetlands, climbs hills and travels over rough terrain.

The prototype of the Stealth 600 ATV appeared in 2011, and production of the model began only in 2014. The long-awaited new product quickly captured the market. The reason for this popularity was the explosive characteristics and low cost of the device.

This change significantly increased the functionality of the machine. Leopard 600 UL is perfect not only for work, but also for tourism. The cost of the device is not much different from the YS model; the new Leopard can be purchased for only 399-430 thousand rubles.

The Stels 600 ATV, like all the manufacturer’s equipment, received a rather “tasty” package. The developers installed mirrors, front and rear trunks, hand protection, alloy wheels, a winch and powerful LED lighting on both modifications. The improved version of the YL also received a passenger seat with a backrest.

Something has frozen somewhere: (-2 is not a thaw, it’s not enough for something to thaw. In this case, I put a cover (right in the garage) under the quad convector for an hour, and lo and behold, it started up;) when there was no cover, I put convector on the right footrest of the quad, and at the same time heated the fuel pump with a hair dryer and stuck the hair dryer into the air vent for 15 minutes. An hour of dancing with tambourines and it starts. But this is my personal experience on the 500GT, carb + everything is available;) In any case, if the quad was working, you need to warm it up. IMHO.
