Suzuki Kingquad 750 - the largest single-cylinder ATV in the world

Japanese ATVsATVs "Suzuki" (Suzuki)

Few people know that motorists and extreme sports enthusiasts owe the appearance of ATVs, in their modern and familiar form, to Suzuki engineers.

It was thanks to their efforts that three decades ago (in 1983), this four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle was born, replacing its three-wheeled counterparts.

Today, the Japanese corporation Suzuki Motor produces several models of similar equipment, of which only three are supplied to Russia: KingQuad 400, 500 and, of course, the most legendary - 750. Let's talk about the latter in more detail.

Versatility and practical design

When you first get acquainted with the Suzuki Kingquad 750, you expect to see a powerful and unstoppable beast, because it is the largest single-cylinder member of the ATV family in the world.

However, the 750AXi looks less intimidating, but rather stylish and modern , although there is plenty of unstoppable power hidden under its sparkling armor.

The flagship of the KingQuad line is a fundamental SUV, since it cannot be equipped with rear-view mirrors and turn signals to drive on public roads.

In addition, the manufacturer fundamentally does not produce two-seater ATVs and positions this equipment exclusively as mini-tractors .

Another thing is that in Russia, ATVs are used very rarely as agricultural equipment, but as a device for extreme sports or outdoor activities - more and more often.

And the 750AXi is perfect for these purposes, combining great power, cross-country ability and maneuverability.

The model is universal and suitable for work, outdoor walks or amateur racing.

We also note that the unique advantages and abilities of KingQuad are appreciated by all kinds of mobile units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, border guards, rangers, etc.

Having appeared on the market in 2007, the KingQuad 750 rolled off the factory assembly line for several years without any changes.

In 2009, the situation changed and the ATV acquired electric power steering, which slightly increased its weight.

To keep the model in the stated weight category, the company's engineers had to remove the manual starter, reduce the thickness of the battery bracket and brake pedal, and install alloy wheels.

The pilot's seat has also undergone changes . Now the T-shaped saddle allows you to sit straighter, and the steering wheel has become higher and has acquired an angle, which increases comfort and controllability.

The breathers of the ATV gearboxes were protected with covers, but the head optics remained without restyling.

To protect the suspension and underbody, as well as panel cladding and fenders, manufacturers used high-quality impact-resistant plastic because it is lighter than metal and practically does not allow dirt to stick to it.

The color can be green, gray, red, yellow, white, blue or camouflage.

The Yamaha Virago 400's attitude towards motorcycles for beginners lies in its characteristics, which are described in detail in our publication.

A true embodiment of the classic sports car model from the Suzuki family. This car is equipped with a 398cc four-stroke engine. cm with an electronic fuel injection system, which uses an injector with 12 nozzles. The power unit developed in this way reacts much more dynamically to the gas, and driving it in off-road conditions is smoother, even while maintaining the sporty qualities of the car.

The Quad King received a redesigned frame, which is a more rigid element, which provides greater stability when cornering and jumping. The 5-speed gearbox with reverse gear allows you not only to drive aggressively, but also to check other useful characteristics of the vehicle during extreme off-road conditions. The rear and front suspension, steering wheel and feet are adjustable, allowing the vehicle to be tailored to the driver's individual preferences. And the contoured seat helps you better control the car during the madness.

The sports ATV has a modern look, which is due to the new design. The engine is more powerful and the new carburetor provides quicker throttle response and improved power characteristics, especially in the high rpm range. Following the increase in power, the number of clutch drive plates has been increased from 8 to 9. This change improves clutch feel.

New aluminum alloy shift pedal to reduce weight and lighter shift lever. The cylinder head cover and clutch are made from light alloy to reduce weight and enhance product appeal.

The front bumper and rear handle are made of aluminum alloy to reduce weight and enhance the product's attractiveness. Front shock absorbers with expansion tanks absorb shock better and have more precise adjustment, which improves traction.

398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve, DOHC engine. cm, made of aluminum alloy, provides high power and torque throughout the entire speed range. High compression ratio of 11.3, large diameter intake and exhaust valves, lightweight valve timing, high fill ratio, race-proven Suzuki SCEM electroplated composite cylinder and a reinforced forged aluminum alloy piston.

Characteristics and equipment of Kingquad

KingQuad 750AXi is the top model of the legendary company.
Its design incorporates the manufacturer’s most advanced technologies, making the ATV characterized by balance and stability .

Endurance and permeability

A TERRIBLE muddy road 150 miles from Moscow promised interesting driving. Before plunging into the “off-road” abyss, I roll the ATV off the trailer. A “test” acquaintance with any equipment usually begins with the transmission. The quality of how well it is made and how well it works is the hallmark of any vehicle, whether it has two or four wheels. I move the control lever. By clearly clicking on the plastic “comb”, which limits and at the same time fixes the strokes of the lever, I turn on the “Drive” mode. The mechanism works in a Suzuki-like manner and makes a good impression.

The injection engine, despite the light frost, starts with half a turn. The variator moves the ATV smoothly and slowly. It is felt that the gear ratio in the transmission is selected in such a way that it is possible to drive off-road with tension. However, the Suzuki designers tried to achieve from the all-terrain vehicle not only cross-country ability, but also endurance and reliability. That’s why the “700 KingQuad” variator is reinforced with an additional support with a bearing in the area of the large cone of the variator (“sore spot” of any ATV, constantly experiencing high loads). As a motorcycle habit, I turn on all the lights that are available: on an ATV, the headlight and headlights in the wings light up - so that hares in the field do not crawl under the wheels..

I point the ATV towards the horizon. The device readily grinds dirt. Now he is driving forward on one rear wheel drive. Good cross-country ability in this mode is provided primarily by tires with a pronounced off-road character.

Before a difficult section, I press down the red button on the steering wheel. The “4x4” mode is activated. It seems that the ATV is not driving, but is slowly walking across the field. Bumps and holes, ruts and some holes made the ATV skew from side to side, but the tires always maintained contact with the ground. A completely independent suspension allows each wheel to work out the terrain “individually,” and fairly soft and long-stroke shock absorbers in most cases allow the tire to “reach” the ground without hanging in the air. A “side effect” of this soft independent chassis is good driving comfort on broken dirt roads. “The other side of the coin”: even in rear-wheel drive mode, you don’t really want to drive recklessly, taking turns in a sporty way quickly. In such cases, the all-terrain vehicle rolls deeply... Maybe we should reconfigure the suspension? However, more on this a little later.

Ahead is a difficult climb, intersected by several ditches. I raise the black “flag” with my right thumb, which now blocks the recessed all-wheel drive button from accidental shutdown. And most importantly, the front differential is now locked. Even though the steering wheel has become “wooden”, even though the all-terrain vehicle doesn’t listen to it very readily, but now its off-road arsenal is being used to the maximum.

It is advisable to use the front lock only to overcome particularly difficult areas, and then turn it off. And the transmission will wear out less, and driving in this mode, when the ATV practically does not obey the steering wheel, is below average pleasure.

An additional insurance when traveling off-road can be a winch, which is offered as an additional equipment for the “KingQuad”. Since we are talking about options, I personally would order a passenger seat for this Suzuki. It is installed instead of the trunk and can be used as... a large luggage case. But if you take out the middle of this case, you will get a large chair with armrests.

History of appearance

In the early 2000s, bitter rivals Suzuki and Kawasaki formed a brief alliance to better compete with other ATV companies.

Then they developed the first large Suzuki device, called Twin Peaks. This ATV was two-cylinder and very popular.

After a breakdown in relations, the Suzuki KingQuad 700 was born, which had the same engine capacity as its predecessor, but with a single large cylinder.

This ATV was the first vehicle in the company’s lineup equipped with independent suspension and an injection system.

In 2007, the KingQuad 700 engine was increased by 27 cc, and the model equipped with the new unit was sold as the Suzuki KingQuad 750AXi.
