There is probably no person born during the USSR who would not remember the roar of the IZH motorcycle, famous throughout the union. Despite the official cessation of production of the marked vehicle, the love of true connoisseurs of good motorcycles for the mentioned representative of the domestic automobile industry has not passed. According to the official applicants of the developers of the new product, the length of the bike is almost 3 meters, while the weight is 500 kg. The IL can accelerate to the first 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while its maximum speed is 250 km/h.

Externally, the motorcycle is similar to the German BMW G 650 GS. It is worth recalling that this particular type of vehicle is loved by Russian law enforcement agencies. True, the technical characteristics of IZH are more “ours”.

The design of the motorcycle is notable due to two shock absorbers located in the rear of the body, on the suspension. Most likely, the noted move was used due to the considerable mass of the bike, supplemented with batteries. The instrument panel itself will not surprise the buyer with any pretentiousness - everything is as simple and clear as possible. Although, why add frills to special equipment.

Izh manufacturers have produced a variety of motorcycles: choppers, sports and classic. Their new units stand out for their excellent properties, design and ride comfort. There are even new motorcycles that look like foreign models.

Mobile Izh Kornet.

You don't need a driver's license to drive this model. We made a unit for economical motorcyclists. It is light in weight and small in size. It is given a unique shine by chrome parts, a high steering wheel and a teardrop-shaped tank.

Disc brakes are installed at the rear and front of the unit. They allow you to achieve effective and uncomplicated braking, since often a beginner sits behind the wheel of a motorcycle. But the actions of such a pilot in traffic situations are not always fast.

The new Izh model, like all the others, is easy to buy at the manufacturing plant. Cornet costs only 20 thousand rubles. Such a low cost is due to its size: height - 128 centimeters, width - about 82, and length - 194.

The total weight of the motorcycle is 90 kilograms, and the maximum permissible load is 170. The model has a soft suspension and excellent mobility, and also a single-cylinder, 2-stroke engine, the power of which is only three horsepower.

The Izh Junker bike is not designed for high speeds. It can only accelerate to 115 km/h. The engine has 2 cylinders, two-stroke, and has a power of 24 horses, but a torque of 40 Nm.

Of course, there is also a drawback - the low location of the glove compartment and battery compartment. In the city, gasoline consumption is approximately 7 liters per 100 kilometers. But still, on the highway, if you drive at a speed of 60 km/h, only four liters of fuel are consumed, but when accelerating to 90, consumption increases to 5.7 liters.

The motorcycle has a height of 152 centimeters and a length of 160 centimeters. The Junker weighs approximately 205 kilograms, the load should not be higher than 150. The factory cost of the unit is 92 thousand rubles.

The Izh Planeta-7 motorcycle is designed for Russian roads.

It was produced on the basis of Planet-5, but looks more beautiful in appearance. The following parts stand out from the operational parameters of the unit:

  • suspension;
  • excellent drum brakes.

At the same time, many tuning fans try to replace them with disc brakes, however, the factory ones are also quite good.

The model's handling is excellent and it holds the road perfectly. The motorcycle also handles turns well. The engine in Planet-7 is 4-stroke. So, due to a special mechanism, four valves begin to work on only one cylinder. Compared with previous models, the engine size has decreased, but this has not affected the power in any way.

With an engine power of 20 horsepower, the motorcycle can accelerate to 120 km/h, but it is still rather weak for a trailer. In addition, new motorcycles without sidecars feel confident on the road at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour. Since a five-speed transmission is installed, the model accelerates to the maximum speed quite quickly, but not so fast as to overtake, for example, the Izh Jupiter.

The advantage of this model is that the motor is almost not subject to overheating. Therefore, even long-term driving at maximum speed in the summer is not dangerous for him. In general, the bike is not bad in terms of quality and cost. It is moderately durable and reliable, and also easy to maintain.

Reliable Izh Saiga.

On the instrument panel you can now see different lights that give a signal when there is a breakdown, the lights are on, and also show the charging of the battery. A fairly comfortable motorcycle saddle with a pencil case, designed for two seats. Compared to the previous model, the Saiga has chrome-plated parts, and the gearbox is the same.

The engine is Chinese, but it is of excellent quality. The motorcycle has a domestic suspension and chassis, which is located next to the engine. This engine belongs to a new family of 4-stroke engines with only one cylinder and four ONC valves.

With an engine capacity of 249 cubic meters, the unit belongs to the middle class. The dimensions of the motorcycle are 72–61.2, and the compression level is 8.9. The engine power reaches a limit of 8500 rpm. In addition, this bike is capable of accelerating up to 120 kilometers per hour, and it also consumes a little gasoline. For example, on the road it consumes 3.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

It is clear that when driving in the city more fuel is consumed, but this is still considered a low figure. With the familiar five-speed gearbox, the motorcycle can quickly accelerate to top speeds.

Regarding tuning of this model, there is absolutely no reason for interior decoration. The technical parameters of the unit are quite satisfactory, one might say that they are excellent. But you will need to work on the appearance. By installing xenon optics, the appearance will immediately change. This will also improve the lighting of the bike.

It is also good to install a windshield with a fairing, complementing it with a variety of mirrors. The motorcycle will look more fashionable, and while riding it will be more comfortable and ensure good safety. And even if you don’t use tuning, this model is an acceptable and reliable motorcycle for its price.

In the new guise, the motorcycles will become heavy. Based on official information, IL is produced according to the “Cortege” project. The first deliveries of bikes are expected this year. A prototype of the new product was presented at one of the innovative exhibitions at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall. By the way, one of the first to become acquainted with the modified motorcycle was Russian President Vladimir Putin.

AT the official presentation of IZH, the Kalashnikov concern, which produces it, introduced the public to its other developments. In particular, we are talking about the Chukavina sniper rifle and electronic weapons created to combat flying vehicles.

Characteristics of the new product

It is worth noting that in one of its modern forms, the updated IZH will appear in the guise of an electric bike. A special feature of this vehicle is its noiselessness, high range on a single charge (150 km), and basic design. If the customer wishes, the last element is modified. The maximum performance of the motorcycle is 15 kW. Weighing 150 kilograms, the bike’s parameters are as follows: 2900x940x150 mm. The kit includes a boxer petrol engine with a power of 110 kW.

Historical summary

The Kalashnikov concern, which is responsible for modernizing the motorcycle, was founded in 2013 on the basis of the previously known NPO Izhmash. At one time, the latter included Izhmoto, which produced legendary bikes from 1929 to 2008. Production was closed due to zero demand for manufactured products, which is logical. Now the new enterprise has decided to give the transport legend of the USSR a new life. In addition to the noted electric motorcycle, the concern’s specialists are developing special prototypes for the presidential project “Cortege”.

The finished version of the vehicle was presented to Putin at the end of November 2021. The familiar IL began to look completely different due to the expressive body kit. A boxer power unit with a capacity of 150 horsepower is responsible for the movement of the motorcycle. He is able to accelerate the new product to the first 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. At the same time, the maximum speed threshold is limited to 250 km/h.

The first batch of bikes will appear on official sale in Russian markets this summer.

Electric motorcycle "Izh-Pulsar"

One of the new products of the Army-2019 military-technical forum held at the end of June was a civilian lightweight version of the Izhevsk electric motorcycle Izh-Pulsar. A new version of the serial electric motorcycle, intended for use in the city, was developed based on the version for the Russian Ministry of Defense, which was first shown to the public back in 2021. The new motorcycle from Izhevsk is distinguished by the presence of a lightweight battery with a higher capacity and a new, improved frame geometry. In general, the ergonomics of the Izh-Pulsar model have become better; the motorcycle has an effective braking system and an adjustable suspension.

"Izh-Pulsar" and its capabilities

The public first became acquainted with the new Izhevsk motorcycle in August 2021.
The premiere also took place at the Army military-technical forum. The motorcycle has the following main characteristics: the maximum speed is limited to 100 km/h, the power reserve is about 150 kilometers. The heart of the motorcycle is a Chinese-made brushless DC motor, the motor develops a maximum power of 15 kW (20 hp). When charging, the electric motorcycle engine consumes only 10 kW/hour of electricity. According to the developers' calculations, in comparison with motorcycles equipped with gasoline engines, the Izh-Pulsar costs the owner about 12 times less. The Kalashnikov concern emphasizes that they have been thinking about creating a new Izha in the capital of Udmurtia since the closure of motorcycle production in 2008. Work began directly on the Pulsar model in Izhevsk in December 2021. At the same time, the bet was immediately placed on a model with an electric motor, since the future lies with such technology. The main global trend in recent years has been electric motors and electric cars, everyone is trying to switch to electricity. According to the concern's experts, sooner or later Europe will come to the point where all internal combustion engines will be prohibited at the legislative level; this could happen in the near future - within 10-15 years. That is why creating a new Izh motorcycle with a gasoline engine was pointless from all points of view: both financial and technological.

At the same time, the advantages of electric motorcycles are obvious and we are talking not only about the fact that they do not harm the ecology of our planet. First of all, this is the low cost of their operation. According to the developers, every kilometer of road traveled by a Pulsar motorcycle is 10-15 times cheaper than on a motorcycle with an internal combustion engine. Given rising fuel prices, this is increasingly relevant. At the same time, fully charging an electric motorcycle will cost less than 50 rubles. In addition, such equipment is significantly cheaper to maintain, since the standard maintenance of any motorcycle is changing filters and oil, and the Izh-Pulsar has neither one nor the other.

At the same time, in Izhevsk they especially emphasize that they developed a new motorcycle with an eye on the whole country and driving not on the best, “non-Moscow” roads, which prevail throughout Russia. It’s hard to argue with this, considering that the motorcycle was originally developed specifically for the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies. On the videos of the Kalashnikov Concern you can see how the Pulsars confidently plow snow-covered dirt roads. During the development process, the motorcycle was improved, so the new versions differ from the one that was presented in the spring of 2021; they received a changed weight distribution, a stiffer suspension and many other new elements.

The Izh-Pulsar motorcycle is equipped with an original power plant. The heart of the model is a Chinese brushless DC electric motor produced by Golden Motor, which develops a maximum power of 15 kW (20 hp). In the future, Kalashnikov expects to switch to a domestically produced electric motor, work on which is currently underway. The certification of the new Izhevsk motorcycle specifies three types of traction batteries: lithium-ion, lithium-polymer and lithium-ferrophosphate. One main battery is installed above the engine; another one or two batteries can be placed in specially designed cases. The capacity of the main battery can reach 38-100 Ah, auxiliary batteries – from 20 to 30 Ah. The total battery capacity can reach up to 160 Ah, and the motorcycle's power reserve according to OTTS (Vehicle Type Approval in Rosstandart) can range from 50 to 250 kilometers. The OTTS has registered special-purpose versions for the needs of the army, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, the Ministry of Justice, etc. and a civilian version. A special version of the Izh-Pulsar motorcycle can be additionally equipped with safety arches, flashing beacons, side and rear panniers, and a trunk. It is for this reason, and also because of the different battery options, that the curb weight of the electric motorcycle varies from 165 to 245 kg, and the permitted total weight of the Pulsar ranges from 300 to 320 kg.

Do Izhevsk motorcycles have “Chinese ears” sticking out?

Back in 2021, the popular Russian publication AutoReview expressed some skepticism about the Izhevsk new product. The publication doubted that this was the Kalashnikov Concern’s own development, a motorcycle entirely of Russian origin. Indeed, motorcycle production in Izhevsk was completely curtailed back in 2008, and all equipment was sold out. At the same time, the Izh-Pulsar is very similar in appearance to the Irbis TTR250 off-road gasoline motorcycles presented on the Russian market. Bashan BS250 motorcycles, which are assembled in Chongqing, China, are sold under this designation in our country.

The Kalashnikov concern monitors the media reaction to its new products, so they could not miss such comparisons. After the presentation of the first version of the new motorcycle, many comparisons and statements appeared about the external similarity of the Pulsar with the Irbis TTR250 motorcycle. The concern believes that such comparisons are primarily due to the fact that the same headlights were used in Izhevsk. Otherwise, the motorcycle developers note, it is not very clear why the Russian press noticed the similarity with the Irbis, and not, for example, with Yamaha motorcycles. The concern believes that talking about any external similarity between the models is, to say the least, strange.

Moreover, the main element of the Pulsar motorcycle is truly made in China. The concern notes that the engine of the current versions is Chinese; it satisfied the developers with a set of characteristics. Currently, work is underway to create our own electric motor for the Pulsar. The first models have already entered the testing stage, so in the future, new Izh motorcycles will receive Russian engines, which will help to abandon the use of a Chinese engine.

Izh-Pulsar motorcycles are already in use by the police

Back in June last year, the Kalashnikov Concern handed over the first 30 Izh-Pulsar electric motorcycles to Moscow police. All motorcycles went to work at the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development. New models of motorized vehicles were widely used during patrolling of city streets and forested areas of the capital during the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

So in April 2021, the first 4 Izh-Pulsar electric motorcycles produced by the Kalashnikov Concern were transferred to the VAI (military automobile inspection) of the city of Moscow. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, by the end of 2021, the Moscow Military Aviation Institute will purchase another 16 electric motorcycles made in Izhevsk. It is already known that after a generalization and comprehensive analysis of the experience of using the first VAI unit on electric motorcycles in Moscow, it is planned to form their own motorcycle units in another 16 VAI. VAI notes that the new motorcycles are excellent for creating mobile rapid response teams, going to accident scenes within the city, as well as monitoring compliance with traffic rules and ensuring road safety when moving military vehicles in urban environments. The military department especially emphasizes the relevance of motorized transport in cities with high traffic intensity and density, which, of course, includes Moscow and other Russian millionaire cities. Indeed, an electric motorcycle is the type of transport that feels more confident in city traffic; a motorcycle is able to go where a regular car cannot go, and can successfully get through even many kilometers of traffic jams.

Another vision

Representatives of the Kalashnikov concern spoke about another attempt to transform the usual IZH. At one of last year's exhibitions, the prototype of the motorcycle was first presented to the public. We are talking about a heavy-duty version of the vehicle. By the way, its tests took place on the Formula 1 track in Sochi. A video about the work performed can be found on the manufacturer’s official Internet resource.

It is worth noting that before the start of official sales, the development of a well-known enterprise will be purchased by special government agencies. By the way, for those who are “not in the know”, I would like to remind you that the Kalashnikov concern, in addition to working on an updated version of IZH, is also engaged in the production of weapons, machine tools, tools and other equipment. In the near future, the company will begin working on unmanned aerial vehicles and controlled combat modules. History of IZH motorcycles

In 1929, on the basis of the Izhstal enterprise, it was decided to create experimental workshops, where 5 IZH motorcycles were produced.

The talented engineer P.V. Mazharov, who had previously completed an internship in Germany, was placed at the head of the team of craftsmen. It is he who can be called the godfather of the Soviet-made IZh motorcycle line.

Just a few months before the start of the motorcycle rally across the territory of the Soviet Union, engineers were able to develop five models of motorcycles to participate in it. The difference from existing models was the originality and uniqueness of the design of the devices on them.

Technical specifications. They used a V-shaped engine as a power plant, the volume of various variations of which was 500, 750 or 1200 cc. This model had a strong stamped chain frame that served as a muffler. All 5 created units took part in the all-Union motor rally, which took place from September to October 1929.

An interesting fact is that already in their first run the motorcycles were able to easily cover a distance of 3 thousand kilometers. A short time later, Mazharov moved to Leningrad, where he began developing a new model, called the L300.

The success of the motorcycle creator led to the model attracting the attention of members of the Council of People's Commissars. But it was decided to begin the construction of the enterprise in Izhevsk, since Stalin himself insisted on this. The future enterprise was given the name “Experimental Motorcycle Plant.”

Already in 1933, the first models of PMZ A 750 motorcycles were assembled on it.

IZH7. The production of this motorcycle was launched in the same year. It was an almost exact copy of the L300 motorcycle. It used a 300 cc two-stroke engine as a power plant. cm, and a three-speed gearbox. Subsequently, the IZH-8 and IZH-9 models were released, the feature of which was increased power to 8, and then to 13.5 hp.

Golden years. After the end of World War II, in the 50-60s, the golden era of motorcycle production at the Izhevsk plant began. The IZH 49 was produced, which became the most popular model of Soviet youth, and later the IZH 50, IZH 54 and IZH 55. Starting in 1962, the production of the IZH Jupiter and IZH Planet models began, the total number of units produced was about 7 million things. New solutions from the designers made it possible to almost double the service life of the power plant, as well as overall reliability.

In the 70s, the models IZH Planet 2, IZH, Planet-3, IZH Jupiter -2 and IZH Jupiter -3 appeared. Later, the first sports motorcycle, Planet Sport, came off the assembly line and received legendary status. The total volume of motorcycles produced exceeds 250 thousand per year.

Conclusion. For the IL model, this period became the beginning of a crisis, the manifestation of which only intensified in the 80s, when the plant could no longer compete with the growing auto industry. In 90-2000, the enterprise’s crisis only dragged on, and in 2009 it was finally declared bankrupt.
