Yamaha X MAX 2019 scooter

Following the successful sales of the X MAX scooter in the European market, Yamaha is expanding its presence in other global markets.

It’s even surprising that it took several years, because the class of 300 cc maxi-scooters is now in demand literally everywhere. The 27.6-horsepower engine accelerates the scooter to any permitted speed, even on highways, and this is another guarantee of the model’s relevance and relevance. In addition to this, the stylish and modern design of the Yamaha X MAX literally announces it as the ideal urban everyday maxi scooter, and not just for the youth.

Yamaha X MAX Design

Slanted headlights and an overall “transformer” look form the first impression of a modern and fast scooter, while remaining within the strict design framework. The front plastic together with the windshield protect the rider from wind and rain, diverting the oncoming flow over the head and to the sides. The windshield is adjustable, allowing you to add 5cm of height to increase the air pocket.

Below, the front plastic protects the rider’s legs, which is why business attire is so popular on scooters: even in very bad weather, the rider remains dry and clean. A high tunnel divides the floor of the scooter in half, making two types of landing possible: a typical scooter and a chopper-style landing.

At stops it is convenient to put both legs out thanks to the fairly narrow front part of the seat. The seat height is 79.5 cm, which makes the Yamaha X MAX comfortable even for shorter riders, especially considering that the adjustable handlebar can be moved 2 cm closer to the seat.

The spacious seat case holds up to two full-size helmets. Thanks to LED lighting, loading and unloading becomes convenient even in the dark. In addition to the underseat luggage compartment, the Yamaha X MAX has two small glove compartments in the front plastic, one of which has a 12-volt outlet and an electronic lock to protect your belongings. The stylish rear end features flush-mounted taillights, as well as a plastic mudguard that houses the turn signals on the stems and mounts the license plate.

The flat passenger portion of the seat is more like a small platform for carrying cargo that can be attached to the passenger handles. The absence of any kind of back support or steps to prevent the passenger from slipping clearly characterizes the Yamaha X MAX as able, but not loving, to ride with two riders. Rather, this is not a family, but an individual city transport, on which you can go to work, and for shopping, and, if necessary, give a nice colleague a ride home.

The bacillus of maxi-scooterism is rapidly spreading throughout the world. If Japan and Europe have long switched from impractical motorcycles to comfortable maxi-scooters, then Russia has only just joined this process. Manufacturing companies react to increased demand like an explosive to heating - they “explode” with new models, improve old ones, and develop markets that have not yet been conquered. The Yamaha concern has entered the fight for the wallets of Russian scooter riders, and the popular X-MAX model is the main bait of the “three tuning forks” in the “250 cm3” sector.

A peppy engine, good (for cars of this class) handling, a comfortable seating position for people of average height, low fuel consumption - the X-MAX has all these qualities of a modern urban motorized vehicle. But they achieve a rating of “4” - the machine does not reach the “five”.

The single-cylinder engine “drives” at the same level as its classmates (even more “vigorously” than the Honda Forza 250 engine, which is not officially sold in Russia), but it is far from the “Italians”. The Piaggio Quasar engine makes Italian scooters much faster and more dynamic than the Yamaha X-MAX - that's it. The soft suspension of the Yamaha turned out to be flimsy: even on small bumps it shakes, like in the cockpit of an army UAZ - that's two. The saddle height, the floor width are considerable for cars of this class (for example, while driving the X-MAX I couldn’t put both feet on the ground at once) and the annoying windshield, which makes it difficult to control the situation in traffic jams and is ineffective at speed - that’s three. Nice design (the “stern” was especially successful, in my opinion), but the obscenely “cheap” plastic of the front shield and the almost Chinese build quality of the panel are four. Amazing trunk! It easily fits two integral helmets, a medium-sized backpack, a pair of sneakers, and even leaves room for an eyeglass case. But the foot platform is cramped for tall people - that's five. Finally, a tenacious rear brake, but an almost ineffective front brake, which I could not even block intentionally - that’s six. As accountants say, “total”: for a 250 cc scooter with good performance and a number of small but unpleasant details they are asking 205,000 (!) rubles. Of course, you wouldn’t mind paying three hundred thousand for a good thing, but this is clearly not the case with X-MAX. By the way, a much higher quality, faster and stylish Aprilia Sportcity 250, which I consider the standard of the “maxi-250” class, is almost 30,000 rubles cheaper! Why overpay “for worse”? So Yamaha “shot” at the hearts of maxi-scooter lovers, but missed the mark a little. At least the Japanese didn't hit mine.

It’s hard to call the X-MAX a “maxi-scooter”. In my opinion, this is just a large scooter, aimed at everyday use in the metropolis. An upright seating position, a narrow steering wheel, a powerful engine and brakes that can stop a train - everything is designed for driving in heavy traffic, with weaving through traffic jams and constant use of the gas brake.

The 250 cc engine is under the constant control of an electronic control system. When starting from a traffic light, the reaction of the injection engine to turning the throttle seems inadequate: from 0 to 40 km/h the scooter accelerates lazily. I can imagine that car drivers are perplexed: why doesn’t such a big “moped” go to the point?.. It goes! You just have to wait for the variator to reach “combat” speeds: starting from 50 km/h, the speed increases more dynamically.

The abundance of electronics is impressive! The on-board computer and instrumentation are from the Italian Magneti Marelli. The thing is as fancy as it is useless. It looks like it was installed just to be “cool.” I was not able to understand the intricacies of all its functions during a short test. From the useful things I was able to delve into: the computer calculates engine hours, mileage (total and three independent), as well as fuel consumption. One of the options tells you how many kilometers you can drive with the remaining gasoline in the tank. The computer informs the driver about the timing of scheduled maintenance.

There is no tachometer. The design-accentuated device is a dial speedometer. The entire panel is constantly illuminated in red. During the day, the backlight is not noticeable at all, but in the dark the information on the screen and the speedometer scale are clearly readable.

X-MAX is an individual means of transport. There is enough space on the wide “sofa” for two, but the scooter is clearly not designed for long trips together. The driver's seating position is like a chair. However, we can also say this: on the torture chair, on which the rider is fixed, the design of the platforms is such that you can only sit in one position.

The Yamaha X-MAX brake system is not equipped with an ABS system or even a combined braking system. It's a pity. A heavy 165-kilogram vehicle can be accelerated to 140 km/h and even faster, but at the same time it becomes difficult to control. And it’s easy to skid the rear wheel: you can catch the moment of blocking, but only if you set such a goal.

The smooth ride is good, it is formed due to large, by scooter standards, wheels (15 and 14 inches) and long-stroke shock absorbers. X-MAX handles small irregularities, asphalt joints and convex road markings one hundred percent.

It was still impossible to get used to the non-standard arrangement of buttons on the control consoles. The high beam “blinker” is not located at the top of the remote control, as with the “traditional” layout, but at the bottom, and only an alien can reach it with the finger of his left hand (if I correctly imagine what his hands look like). The hazard warning light switch is completely turned in the opposite direction (you don’t want to loom around someone on the road as a sign of gratitude - it’s inconvenient!).

X-MAX has great potential for tuning, so it will appeal to an experienced scooter rider with a sober outlook on things. But how would a sober person react to the price?.. It seems too high to me.

The scooter for testing was provided by Yamaha Motor CIS, the equipment was provided by Mr. Moto.

Yamaha X MAX chassis

Yamaha engineers took the utmost care in developing the X MAX, creating not a scooter, but a full-size (albeit small) motorcycle with a tubular steel frame to match. The 15-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels are compatible with a wide range of motorcycle tires on the market, and although they are smaller in size than the 16-inch wheels of the largest maxi-scooters, the ease of tire selection fully compensates for this, and the wheels are large enough for excellent handling of the device . Another feature inherent in motorcycles is the double crossbar, which makes the front suspension more durable and resistant to torsion. The suspension itself is quite simple, the 33mm front fork has no adjustments, and the rear shock absorbers with external springs allow you to adjust only their preload.

What does the company/project do?

Unfortunately, at the moment, most cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects are associated, if not with difficulties for super-advanced geek programmers, then with tools that are mostly used by Internet attackers.
XMAX is a project that is one of those aimed at finding a solution to such an unpleasant pattern, as well as creating new solutions based on blockchain technology. XMAX is a development that makes interaction and development of new blockchain-based solutions as simple as possible and accessible to almost everyone. In addition, the project has its own token, which is used to implement the set goals and mechanisms of the project, allows interested investors to earn good money, and is also used as the main tool for investing in development.

Brake system

The curb weight of the Yamaha X MAX scooter is only 180 kg, but the company did not skimp on safety. The front wheel is equipped with a two-piston floating caliper on a 267 disc, and the rear brake system consists of a single-piston caliper on a 245 disc. Stock ABS provides safety and maximum braking performance.

Yamaha TMAX 2021

The 2021 Yamaha TMAX is equipped with a Euro 5 compliant 560cc inline-twin engine, 41mm inverted forks, two 267mm front brake discs and one 282mm rear disc, ABS, traction control, LED lighting and two riding modes. TMAX owners will also receive Smart Key keyless entry and a large, illuminated seat case that can hold one full-face helmet or two jets.

The Yamaha TMAX Tech Max version is additionally equipped with an electronically adjustable windshield, cruise control, heated grips and saddle. The model is available in Tech Camo and Power Gray finishes.

Yamaha XMAX engine

As motorcycle-like as the Yamaha X MAX may be, in one part it is still a real scooter. The new single-cylinder engine, combined with a CVT transmission in a single monocoque, replaces the traditional motorcycle swingarm. A single overhead camshaft sets the timing of the four valves, and a liquid cooling system removes excess heat from the engine while at the same time somewhat insulating noise thanks to a water jacket. A cylinder with a diameter of 70.2 mm and a piston with a stroke of 75.9 mm determine the long-stroke nature of the engine, and the compression ratio of 10.9:1 determines the criticality of fuel quality. Oil jet technology provides direct piston cooling, while the die-cast aluminum cylinder with DiASil technology reduces engine weight and improves heat dissipation from the combustion chamber. A forged crankshaft and balancer shaft complete the list of modern high-tech solutions used in this engine.

The 12-jet fuel-injection system provides excellent fuel atomization and excellent throttle response, but what makes this engine a real gem is the traction control feature, which reduces engine traction when a significant difference in front and rear wheel speeds is detected. It must be admitted that this is a unique feature for maxi-scooters, and for most motorcycles in this price category, too. This scooter can be recommended as a “first motorcycle” for a novice rider, because many road troubles can be avoided with ABS and traction control in your arsenal.

Peculiarities

The XMAX project was created based on a software SDK that relies on the use of the JavaScript language. Its blockchain ecosystem is designed to be an ideal development, enhancement, and support tool for a diverse range of decentralized applications. The company strives to pave a fundamentally new path to blockchain, which was previously unavailable in other projects.

Based on the project, a special programming language, WebX.js (based on JavaScript), was created and is functioning. The main advantage of using it is that DApps developers will not need to know or learn individual programming languages. With the WMAX project, blockchain development will become more accessible than ever. As the representatives themselves say.

Considering which main areas are most popular in the field of creating decentralized applications, the project is already ready to offer hundreds of templates for projects in the field of video, music, web projects, messaging programs and even specific blockchain-based games.

The creators note the special potential of developing games based on decentralized technology. Games that will be protected from piracy (for the benefit of developers) and also have a flexible digital property system (for the benefit of players).

Results

What does all this give us? Engine power at 7500 rpm is 27.6 horsepower and torque is 28.4 Nm at 5750 rpm, and depending on load, slope and wind, the Yamaha X MAX accelerates to 125-135 km/h. Remember when we said this was a great everyday device? Weather protection, active safety systems, speed reserves for country trips, large luggage capacity, and all this - in a modern, stylish scooter. The manufacturer also claims a consumption of only 3.2 liters per hundred, but this figure depends on many factors, so we will consider it just an assumption.

Using the XMX token

XMX is a native token that is used on the XMAX platform to facilitate the exchange of various assets within decentralized applications created on the basis of the blockchain platform. Notably, assets can also be created on the blockchain. Their standard will be ERC20.

Thus, an open-source project makes it possible to use the capabilities and templates for creating DApps absolutely free, and the token is used as a link in the future economy of projects from third-party developers.

Yamaha XMAX 300 2021
