The engine of the Voskhod motorcycle is light and has good power, suitable for installation on a homemade all-terrain vehicle. But still, some changes must be made with your own hands in the box. Tuning the Voskhod engine, which will improve the performance of our all-terrain vehicle. For comparison, let's look at the overall given gear ratios (from the crankshaft to the rear wheel). The first data is Voskhod 2m, the following is Kovrovets 175A:
- In first gear Voskhod-2m – 18.42 – Kovrovets 175A – 18.68
- In second gear 12.08 - 11.88
- In third gear 8.98 – 8.49
- In fourth gear 6.06 – 6.06
As you can see, the difference at first speed is not too big, but when moving it is noticeable. All we have to do is change first gear. To do this you need to completely disassemble the engine. The first speed drive gear is not removable and is integral with the input shaft. This means we take the input shaft, the first speed driven gear from Kovrovets 175A and install it on our unit.
The tuning changed the gear ratio from the crankshaft to the rear wheel, improving the all-terrain vehicle's driving performance when passing difficult sections of winter roads. This replacement was tested on a Voskhod-2m motorcycle; when driving on a bad road (clay after rain), the motorcycle moved confidently without slipping or skidding at the lowest engine speeds.
Some tips for identifying faults when disassembling an engine. Remove the cylinder head and set the piston to top dead center. Rock it from side to side, if there is a slight play, you need to replace the piston rings. If there is a lot of looseness, check and match the piston to the cylinder.
Next the cylinder was removed. We take the piston and lift it to the top point with one hand. Then, using up and down movements, we check by touch the looseness of the piston. If there is a gap, you need to determine in what place. Replace faulty parts. These could be the piston pin with the connecting rod upper end, the connecting rod lower bearing, or the crankshaft main bearings.
Generator check the fastening of the wires. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft to check the condition of the key socket and key. There shouldn't be any backlash. Replace faulty parts.
Let's disassemble the clutch. Pay attention to the motor chain; if it is too sagging, replace it. Worn stars must be replaced. There should be no chips or other damage on the clutch discs. The starting sector and the gear on the drum should not have chipped worn teeth. The connection between the gear and the drum must be clear and without slipping.
This is roughly how you need to prepare an engine for a homemade all-terrain vehicle.
External tuning
To give the motorcycle a sportier look, you need to raise the rear shock absorbers. You need to try to ensure that the exhaust pipe is almost flush with the rear axle. A larger exhaust pipe will increase fuel consumption and power.
For a more interesting appearance, you can replace the rear view mirrors.
The Soviet motorcycle Voskhod 3m has not been produced for many years, but it can still be found on the roads. This motorcycle appears especially often lately, this is due to the Soviet motorcycles that have become fashionable. Living specimens quickly increase in price; if not on the move, they are bought and carefully restored. The only drawback is low power. The factory 14 horsepower is clearly not enough in modern conditions, so owners are thinking about tuning the engine and other parts. The owners of the once famous and fashionable Java motorcycle, which was a dream for many Soviet motorcyclists, often do the same. To give their iron horse a second life, they tune the Java motorcycle in their own garage. Thus, an outdated motorcycle is transformed into a powerful and modern means of transportation.

Engine tuning
The Voskhod 3m tuning engine which we will consider is a simple, 2-stroke engine with one cylinder. This engine is considered its own development, but has many similarities with motorcycles of Japanese origin. Experienced tuners assure that with the right approach, you can extract almost twice as much power from this engine as it comes from the factory. But you can’t do it with just one stroke; you need a careful approach and studying mountains of specialized literature. Let's look at what we can change to ride the Sunrise motorcycle faster:

- Cylinder-piston group. There is no point in starting other improvements without making changes to the CPG. To begin with, it is worth noting the fact that the factory safety margin of the parts is quite small, so all subsequent modifications will shorten the life of the engine. Let's start with the piston; you can leave it as a native one or select a foreign analogue in size. Next, you need to lighten its weight; for this, you need to grind off with a mill those parts that do not participate in the formation of the strength and operation of the piston. The connecting rod is also subject to lightening. At the cylinder itself, we change the geometry and size of the inlet, outlet and purge channels. This is necessary so that when the amount of air-fuel mixture increases, the engine can effectively burn it and remove gases.
- Carburetor. Alas, in order for the engine to go faster, you need to burn more gasoline, and in order to put more mixture into the cylinder, you need to purchase a more efficient carburetor. If we are talking about a significant increase in power, then the original carburetor is clearly not enough.
- Air filter. More gasoline requires more air for combustion. In order for the engine to “breathe” easily, it is better to replace the original filter element with a filter with minimal resistance.
- Reed valve. The design of a two-stroke engine is designed in such a way that during the compression stroke, part of the air-fuel mixture is emitted into the exhaust; to avoid this, a reed valve is installed. In addition to saving fuel, it also significantly increases traction at low speeds, which means the acceleration of the motorcycle improves.
Supply system
To make the bike go faster, you need to adjust the original carburetor for a higher fuel supply or replace it with a more efficient one. To install a new carburetor, you need to perform the following steps:
- we grind aluminum bushings under the flange of the pipe attaching the carburetor to the cylinders;
- cut off the edge of the inlet channel;
- take a flange from an old carburetor;
- We fasten all the elements using cold welding.
The assembled carburetor must line up exactly with the intake port.
Improved ride quality
Along with the growth of power comes the need for its full implementation. To do this, you need to carefully consider the current state of the chassis system and, if necessary, adjust or even replace some components.
- Rear shock absorbers. The standard suspension is quite soft, so if in your improvements you are aiming to increase the acceleration of the Voskhod motorcycle, then it is worth replacing the original shock absorbers with adjustable ones. Hard adjustment corresponds to improved acceleration, and on the contrary, soft adjustment slightly slows down acceleration.
- Front fork. First, you should check the condition of the fork as a whole; to do this, you need to check its maximum travel in both directions. For this model, the difference between the upper and lower indicators should be within 20 - 40 mm. Less - the fork is too tight, more - the fork is too soft. If configured correctly, replacement or upgrading of this unit is not necessary.
- Tires. A very important point is the type of tires. If you travel in rural areas or are a frequent visitor to off-road conditions, then it is better to choose tires with a developed pattern. To move along the highway you need special road tires, which perfectly hold the motorcycle on a straight line and in difficult turns.

Appearance tuning
As for appearance, the list of improvements can be divided into three groups:
- Restoration.
- Finalization.
- Major changes.
Today, the most popular is restoring the factory appearance of a sunrise motorcycle. As we have already said, retro motorcycles, which have become fashionable, are very popular among both young people and older people. Moreover, literally every element is subject to recovery and restoration. The motorcycle is disassembled down to the bolts and then reassembled.

Tuning options
Refinement of the design involves internal or external tuning. During internal modifications, the engine is rebuilt, driving parameters, suspension, and brakes are optimized. When external modifications are made, the motor vehicle is given a sporty style or it is converted into a chopper.
Features of internal tuning
Owners often rework the Voskhod-3M engine. To increase engine thrust, the factory paper air filter is replaced with foam filter elements. This helps reduce air exhaust friction. Then the jets and diffusers are polished using an abrasive material, the diameter of which affects the volume of fuel entering the engine.
To improve the fuel exhaust system, a new modernized carburetor is installed. From the existing pipe, take flanges for mounting on the cylinders, grind out aluminum bushings, and cut off the flange from the exhaust pipe. In an old carburetor, take a second flange. Using cold welding, the parts are connected.
