TOP 7 best scooters up to 50cc: which one to choose, price, reviews, characteristics, pros and cons

A modern scooter can be called an improved scooter with plastic body kits that reliably cover all moving parts of the vehicle. The dashboard and main controls of scooters are usually located on the steering wheel, and the person’s legs do not participate in the movement at all, quietly resting on a hanging stand. That is why the scooter is currently the safest small-capacity gasoline vehicle. In our article we have compiled a rating of the TOP 7 best scooters up to 50cc.

general information

The Irbis scooter is positioned as a small-sized motorcycle with a stylish design, beautiful colors and availability of spare parts.

Today, any specialized store offers a fairly large list of two-wheeled vehicles. But the Irbis scooter, the photo of which is proof of this, immediately catches the eye, attracting the attention of even the most demanding buyer.

This equipment is produced in China by the fairly well-known brand Irbis Motors. It is interesting that Russian engineers, who are better aware of the quality of domestic roads and the peculiarities of weather conditions, also take part in its creation. Modern developments and high-quality materials are used in production, and modern solutions that allow the creation of these two-wheeled motorcycles give excellent results.

Reviews from Irbis LH owners

IRBIS LX, 2013

IRBIS LX 50 cc red, was purchased in June 2013. I have long been sick of motorcycles, but before buying a serious motorcycle, it was decided to learn on a scooter. The seating position is very comfortable, the shaped seat is more designed for the driver, but the “second number” is also very comfortable. Due to the fact that it is possible to place your feet on the front wall, the driver can lounge as if on a sofa. Under the seat of the IRBIS LX there is a fairly large trunk. A helmet, of course, won’t fit there, but essentials are accommodated with a bang. There is also a glove compartment under the steering wheel. The scooter is equipped with a standard alarm system with auto start (I have never used it). The shock sensor works as it should, and the alarm blocks the starter. She screams quite loudly and unusually. Driving performance: 50cc engine produces maximum power of 4.7 hp. at 7000 rpm, and accelerates quite briskly. At a traffic light, the IRBIS LX clearly moves ahead of the entire flow of cars (considering that in normal conditions no one moves away with a whistle). Maximum speed 85 km/h according to GPS with a rider weight of 70 kg (plus 90 kg scooter weight). The speedometer shows 75 maximum speed, but it picks it up quite quickly and maintains this driving pace quite confidently. A full tank of gasoline costs 100 rubles (3.6 liters), and you can drive 110-130 km (depending on driving style). Controls: very convenient. Very responsive steering wheel. Weaving through traffic jams on the IRBIS LX is a pleasure. But there is also a drawback, it is a small ground clearance. When making a sharp turn, it is possible to catch the running board on the road. The only thing that upset me is that the lamps burn out quickly. The lowest power I could find were 36w lamps, but there was no positive effect. They shine the same as standard ones, and dim at idle.

Advantages

: There are undoubtedly more pros than cons.

Flaws

: flying springs. The red color on the saddle has faded over the season. From time to time you have to tighten the rear brake. When starting, you need to add gas. The small glove compartment is not very well made. Low ground clearance.

IRBIS LX, 2014

Perhaps my experience will be useful to someone. I encountered a stable recurring problem - after a long period of parking (the first time this happened was when I went on vacation for a couple of weeks) - it won’t start. Well, everything is fine - there is gasoline, the gasoline is good, it flows into the carburetor, the spark plug is working, the starter turns. But everything is useless. Or it happens like this - it starts, but stalls on its own or when you try to increase the speed. Service - they don’t know anything, they didn’t advise anything. I found the reason myself - condensation accumulates in the carburetor. Now I pulled the IRBIS LX out of the garage after winter storage - pumped it up a little with a kick, “shuffled” it once with the starter - it won’t start. Everything is clear - I remove the rear wing, two screws on each side - and then on the right through the wheel you can reach with a long screwdriver to the screw on the bottom of the carburetor - there, a rubber tube is put on the drain fitting. I unscrewed it and drained everything that was there. Spun it. I pressed the starter button and it started the first time.

Advantages

Without a doubt, one of the main characteristics that distinguish Irbis scooters is their attractive design. Streamlined shapes and bright colors, a large number of original details - all this makes this Chinese two-wheeled vehicle very beautiful in appearance and memorable in terms of decoration.

The main advantage of each of the models of this brand is increased maneuverability, which is especially important for driving in urban conditions. In addition, Irbis scooters are compact. The driver will always be able to get through them even in very dense traffic jams.

Each vehicle from this manufacturer is equipped with a durable shock absorber and an excellent braking system. Irbis scooters are very simple and easy to operate. Many people drive them not only on city streets, but also go out on them, for example, fishing or to the country.

Tips for choosing

Let's look at tips that will help you make the right choice in favor of the option that's right for you. Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Engine. Many modern brands equip their devices with a fairly powerful four-stroke engine, which has slight advantages over weaker two-stroke models. Such units consume significantly less gasoline, oil and other liquids that affect the performance of vehicles. Experts are divided into two camps: some focus on efficiency, others on manufacturability.
  2. Fuel consumption. Fuel consumption directly depends on the type and power of the engine. Most modern scooters with four-stroke engines have a fuel consumption of no more than three liters for every 100 km, and if you choose a model with a power of less than seven horsepower, you can even choose a model that consumes no more than two liters of fuel.
  3. Speed. It all depends on your preferences and needs. If you want to use a scooter instead of a car, choose models with a speed of 100 km/h and above (this is necessary so that you do not get out of the general traffic on the highway). Less high-speed models are suitable if the path from home to work is not the longest, or a scooter is purchased as an additional vehicle.
  4. Load. For comfortable movement of one person, models with a maximum load of 90-110 kg are suitable. If you plan to travel together, you should choose a scooter with a load capacity of 150 kg or more. It’s great if the seat is divided into a passenger and driver’s area - such a saddle is as comfortable as possible for both the driver and the person behind.

Characteristics

The Irbis scooter is equipped with a standard suspension layout. In the front part, the creators used a telescopic fork, and in the rear part they used a pendulum design with two spring-hydraulic shock absorbers. Scooter wheels are the same size in all models. At the same time, the disc brake mechanism in this motorcycle is installed in front.

The basic equipment of all Irbis scooter models includes an alarm system with remote start, rear mirrors, a dashboard with a clock display and a parking step.

Engine

The Irbis Nirvana 150 has a 157QMJ engine (you can read about tuning this unit at the link) - unpretentious, with a good resource. In order for the engine to work without interruption for as long as possible, it requires running-in. To grind in parts you need:

  • For the first 600 km, drive at a speed of less than 30 km/h; continuous driving time should not exceed 1 hour.
  • For the next 600 km, drive at a speed of 30-40 km/h; continuous driving time can be increased to 2 hours.

Suitable oil for Nirvana four-stroke engine is 15W/40SF. Class SF substitutes are permitted. The oil is changed immediately upon purchase, then after 300 and 600 km of running.

Brake system

The braking system is represented by rear and front disc devices. The weak point in the system is the hose; intensive use often causes it to delaminate from the inside. Replacing it will not hurt your pocket, since the spare part costs around 500 rubles. Complete front and rear brake systems cost RUB 2,900 each. each.

Frame

The reinforced frame of the scooter is durable. The welds are made conscientiously, there is not a single gap. Bikers call the design of the power unit, like Nirvana’s, a “stool” - there is space for the legs in front (between the seat and the handlebars). When sitting on a scooter, you do not need to throw your leg over the frame - this is important for women, since you can ride in a dress and heels.

Suspension

The long wheelbase allows the load to be evenly distributed between the front and rear wheels. Two reinforced rear shock absorbers of the Irbis Nirvana 150 scooter soften bumps on the road well. This is not to say that the driver and passenger do not feel any unevenness at all, but there is no particularly uncomfortable shaking.

Shock absorbers with proper operation can withstand 8000-9000 km. Then you need to carry out an inspection and tighten the loose bolts. If some parts fail, it will not be difficult to find them on sale for replacement; they are moderately expensive. For example, a rear shock absorber L-330mm, D-10mm, M8 costs about 1,100 rubles.

Transmission

The scooter has an automatic transmission, which is, of course, very convenient. The role of the gearbox is played by a V-belt CVT variator. The weakest point in the system is the belt, which can withstand approximately 10,000-12,000 kilometers. It is advisable to immediately purchase a spare belt (an 835 power link is suitable for Nirvana, which is more durable than the one installed at the factory).

Chassis

The scooter is equipped with 14-inch Duro off-road tires. They are distinguished by strong utilitarian rubber, aggressive, deep tread, and durable multi-layer cord. Such tires are even installed on sports bikes, so their use in a regular scooter is a definite plus.

Prices

The price at which Irbis scooters from the manufacturer of the same name are sold is attractive due to its affordability: it is aimed at Russian buyers with average incomes. And therefore, all the advantages and features, combined with a favorable price, ultimately play a positive role in the choice. Today, many Russians purchase Irbis scooters for a variety of purposes.

The average price of this mid-size equipment from a Chinese manufacturer, for example, Irbis FR, in dealer showrooms in our country starts from thirty-three thousand rubles.

The technical content of this scooter is impressive: Irbis FR is equipped with a four-stroke single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 50 cm3. The engine has a forced air cooling system, carburetor power, electric start, compatibility with a V-belt variator and an automatic centrifugal clutch. Today, the domestic market offers consumers products that suit every budget and taste, including Irbis scooters.

I want to share my opinion about the Irbis LX , since I haven’t found a single sensible review of this model on the Internet

I’ll start from afar and in order) I became the owner of this Chinese scooter in August 2012, because I really wanted a two-wheeled friend, and in the summer I worked part-time and saved up 40 thousand. I preferred the new Chinese one to the used one. Japanese And then a sunny day came and I went to the salon to buy my scooter)) I quickly checked everything, looked, paid and drove home at a snail’s pace, since I had very little experience driving on roads with a large number of cars, and running in... For 2012 I skated only about 70 km a year... I put it in the garage for the winter and went and visited him every day)

So, in the spring of 2013, I came to the garage to start it for the first time after wintering) the scooter started almost the first time, which undoubtedly pleased me!) I calmly drove it up to 300 km at a speed of 40-45 km/h. After 300 km I went to the dealership where I bought it for maintenance. Then on the way home I hit the maximum) Its maximum speed turned out to be 70 km/h, but this is scary, since the engine screams loudly, so I ride at 60-65 km/h. And so, in fact, the main comments and the opinion itself:

Appearance. The scooter looks quite beautiful, I personally really like it) However, it is quite large and weighs as much as 100 kg! Therefore, the dimensions spoil the appearance a little, but he is still handsome) I give it 8 out of 10 for appearance.

Comfort. The seat is quite large, it’s comfortable to sit), although after 2-2.5 hours of riding, my back gets a little numb. But this is fixable, you can just move back/forward on the seat and the unpleasant feeling goes away) there is a lot of room for legs, you can put them in a lot of places) sometimes I even put it in a seat for a second person (that’s how I feel like a motorcyclist :D). The dashboard is convenient. There is a small minus in the turn signals, because their sound is weak, and in bright light they are dim and sometimes you forget about them). For comfort I give it 8 out of 10.

Control. The scooter is not very easy to control due to its large size and weight. Sometimes it’s not always possible to hold it normally and I fall a little, but my legs hold up) The throttle stroke is very comfortable, not sharp and you don’t have to turn your hand 180°. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. The scooter brakes very well and sharply if necessary. For handling, 7 out of 10 for the large size.

Speed. Its maximum speed, as I already wrote, is 70 km/h. But the tachometer (I don’t know why it’s on a scooter: D) shows 9000 rpm, and in my opinion this is not cool, and the engine roars loudly, so the cruising speed is 60-65 km/h. The acceleration is kind of slow, only domestic cars and very rarely foreign cars overtake at traffic lights) I live in the Moscow region, and therefore on a free highway at a speed of 60 km/h you feel like an insignificance..(well, in the city it’s normal) passing between the rows, doesn’t hurt anyone) 9 out of 10 for speed, since 60-70 km/s for a 50 cc scooter is not even bad!

Quality. In my opinion, the most important point) well, what can I say, the scooter is made very high quality, nothing dangles or falls off while driving) at the moment the mileage is about 4000 km, there have been NO breakdowns! This is certainly pleasing) because for 40 thousand I expected that something would break at 1500 km) but here everything is fine and everything works! Well-deserved 10 out of 10 for quality)

Pros + Quite fast for 50cc /h) -Acceleration is barely possible for two people, maximum speed is 60 km/h

And so, the conclusion: the scooter is good, high-quality, playful for its engine size, beautiful, but not particularly easy to control and eats a lot of gasoline) I give the scooter 8 out of 10, because I really like it and has never let me down, but Still, it’s not ideal and the downsides sometimes stand out.

PS I might have missed something, so write and ask, I will answer;) your Robert Rayon , smooth roads and a full tank to everyone!

Reviews

Some fans of mid-size two-wheeled vehicles feel that Chinese production is of low quality. And first of all, this concerns the assembly of Irbis brand scooters. It is believed that bolts are the main problem with this motorcycle.

However, few people know that Chinese scooters from Irbis are supplied to our country in semi-disassembled form. And already locally - in dealership centers - they are collected in order to put them up for sale. Therefore, if sellers perform the assembly process irresponsibly, then it is possible that during operation one of the bolts will not unscrew. Many reviews recommend that before purchasing a scooter, you should clarify and check in the store how the fasteners are tightened and additionally check them yourself after purchase.

Scooters imported under this brand have long earned the title of reliable and simple motorcycle equipment produced in the best Chinese factories. This is a technique with a bright design and quite memorable appearance. Judging by the reviews, those who drive Irbis scooters always attract the amazed and admiring glances of passers-by on the street. According to many, it is the ideal characteristics of almost all models that allow this small-sized equipment to gain great popularity among Russian buyers.

But the most important distinguishing feature of Irbis scooters is the availability of almost all of their parts. Constantly maintaining an assortment of spare parts for any model of scooter equipment imported to our country means that consumers will not have any problems in such matters as post-warranty repairs.

The main differences between a scooter and a moped

Many people think that moped is the second name for scooter and vice versa. However, this is not quite true. Indeed, in terms of engine characteristics, a moped and a scooter are the same, and the main difference lies in the structure of the system for the location and layout of the operating parts of the transport.

For example, in a scooter, the engine compartment is located behind a small plastic fence under the seat, made in the shape of a “stool”. The gearbox on a scooter is a CVT, but on a moped there is none at all and the speed is regulated by a smooth movement of the gas handle. The position when riding a scooter is similar to sitting on a chair, and riding a moped can be compared to riding a horse.

If we talk about speed qualities and limitations, then it’s immediately clear that a moped’s wheels are similar to bicycle wheels (larger in diameter, but narrow), but the engine is usually 50 cubic meters, so the speed rarely exceeds 60 km/h. But scooters boast engines up to 250 cc. see, that’s quite a lot for this type of transport.
