Aprilia RS 50

Buying powerful two-wheeled units for a beginner or for everyday driving around the city is often irrational. But if you set out to purchase a sportbike, the Aprilia RS 50, for starters, the choice is right. When you see this bike, it will seem to you that it is some kind of “Japanese” with a power of at least 100 horsepower, everything is conducive to this: the appearance, the body kit, and, at first glance, the details. But in fact, this is an ordinary small-capacity car with an engine capacity of 50 cubic meters. The engine is a two-stroke, with the limiters removed, developing a force of 8 “horses” (6 kW). A perfectly balanced shaft helps reduce driving vibrations to a minimum. Also not unimportant is the excellent purity of exhaust gases, achieved thanks to the existing catalyst.

The frame is made of rigid aluminum alloy. There are disc brakes on both the rear and front wheels. A high-quality shock absorber (mono) located at the rear is complemented by tires from real Aprilia sportbikes, which ensures excellent behavior of the moped on the road. Why a moped? It’s simple, because the stock engine has limiters that do not allow it to reach a speed of more than 60 km/h, so this unit falls into this category according to the laws of many countries. But in fact, this is a real mini-sportbike with a significant advantage - the price of the Aprilia RS 50 is much lower than its analogues.

Specifications

Despite its small cubic capacity, the motorcycle has excellent characteristics, which makes it stand out in a similar model range. The main thing you need to know is:

  • maximum speed – up to 110 km/h (tuning allows you to achieve 140-150);
  • fuel consumption – 3-5 liters per 100 km;
  • acceleration to 80 km/h +/- 13 (depending on the condition of the unit);
  • weight – 90 kg.

All the above information applies to the standard (non-tuned) configuration of the bike.

In February of this year, I became the owner of a 50 cc scooter and in this post I will explain why a scooter is the best transport in the world and share my experience of owning this monster mode of transport.
First, let's get to know the horse

This is an Aprilia SR50 Ditech SBK 2003 replica. Its engine capacity is 49 cubic centimeters, 2 strokes, water cooling. The Ditech inscription means that the scooter is equipped with an injector (by the way, the first scooter with an injector). 13 inch wheels 130/60, both disc brakes. One of the fastest fifty dollars.

It was on sale for almost a year and this is not surprising; in Krasnoyarsk there are few connoisseurs of beautiful fools who are ready to pay 70 thousand for a moped (There are two of us:) ) Before buying, I only rode four-stroke scooters with a volume of 115-400 cubic meters and was very worried that The cruiser at fifty dollars is about 60 km/h. and why am I even taking it? But the money had already been given and on a hot February morning I climbed onto the moped for the first time and standing on my toes (saddle height 840mm) looked at the seller and said “well, I’m off.” The seller’s look was somewhat sad, as if he had no doubt that I wouldn’t make it to the garage in one piece. I pulled the throttle, the moped drove across the ice quite briskly and there was no hint of any slipping, drove out onto the avenue, unscrewed the handle to the maximum and before I had time to think “the stool is falling over,” I reached a speed of 62 kilometers per hour. I reached the bridge and the wind tilts the moped a little. After the bridge I became a little bolder and before the uphill turn I decided to give it a boost, for which I was instantly punished with a lowside, thanks to the snow and 43 layers of clothing, both remained intact.

The horse waited a month for me to get my license, and from May 20, the Aprilka became my vehicle for every day in any weather. To date, 1600 kilometers have been driven. Overall, I am very pleased, the scooter is much larger than the Japanese 50 and 100cc scooters, which contributes to a comfortable view (there is also a minus, the seat height is 840, higher than most scabies motorcycles). It’s lightweight, brakes well, the variator and injector make driving at near zero speeds very smooth, the trunk is very convenient. After about 500 km of driving (I bought a scooter with a range of 12 km), the maximum speed increased to 80 km/h, which I can easily reach in traffic between traffic lights. Thanks to the wide rubber, Aprilka is not afraid of ruts, cut asphalt and rails. The front plastic completely protects from puddles up to 30 centimeters deep, you can fly at a speed of 50-70 km and nothing bad will happen. I don’t know exactly what the vehicle’s ground clearance is, but I drive in and out of curbs without any problems. The scooter does not overheat even when riding for a long time with the throttle fully open, thanks to water cooling.

It's quite comfortable to drive on the highway.

The maximum I drove at a time was 65 km and did not experience any inconveniences. A friend of mine who bought a similar model (albeit in a new body, but there are no differences in the chassis) He has much more free time than I do and he manages to cover 300-500 kilometers a day on very bad roads.

Now let's go over the cons. It has a very stiff suspension and frame, you can feel all the joints of the asphalt and potholes, the kicks in the butt on the bumps and the rumble of the scooter’s interior create the impression that there are several bricks in the trunk. Riding on gravel shakes the entire moped, but nothing seems to break or fall off. The light is very bad, at night on the roads without lighting you can’t see anything (a problem with all two-stroke bikes). Inability to insure under OSAGO and DSAGO (the problem of all fifty kopecks). Very expensive tuning, raising the maximum speed from 80 to 105-117 will cost 700-800 dollars, given the current exchange rate, this makes no sense.

I would recommend this device to those who need to travel around the city for distances of 10-20 km at a time; there is no point in buying a large motorcycle for such ridiculous distances. I would not recommend this device for driving to the country because of the stiff suspension.

Here is some ugly quality video with examples of driving around the city. The camera stood on the radiator grill and was violently shaken.

Price

When considering the price, it is worth determining what kind of bike you want to purchase. If you want to buy a new Italian Aprilia RS 50 in Moscow, or in any other region of the Russian Federation or the CIS, it will cost you 190-220 thousand rubles. Not everyone can afford such an amount, although it is inexpensive for him, so you can buy a used motorcycle at an affordable price and in fairly good condition. On average, the cost of a used RS 50 varies between 50-100 thousand rubles; some lucky ones manage to snag cheaper ones, but rarely.

The price of the bike directly depends on the year of production, but it is important to know that Aprilia has practically not changed the configuration of its motorcycle over the years, so the price decreases (increases) only because of time. Here are examples of prices for units produced at different times:

  • before 2000 – 40-60 thousand rubles;
  • 2000-2008 – 50-80 thousand;
  • 2008-present time – new: from 190,000, used: 70-130 thousand.

All prices are averaged based on market indicators. The mileage can be completely different, but generally no more than 10,000 km.

Accessories

A wide range of Aprilia Genuine Accessories allows you to customize your SR 50 to suit your taste.

— 32 liter rear case (matching the color of the scooter or standard black) with an optional backrest

— Rear racing monoshock (I'm not sure about this phrase, so check it out)

— Rear luggage rack for a 32-liter trunk

— Large windshield

— Sports windshield

— Front spoiler for resting legs

— Side stand

— Anti-theft chain.

Tuning

Not every “rider” of a bike, mainly acquired with experience, likes such a small 110 km/h taken from a 50 cc. see. But no one is stopping everyone from modernizing their iron “horse”.

The first thing worth noting is engine tuning. The bike manufacturer itself produces a standard 80cc CPG package for tuners. Installing such a kit can add up to 150 km/h. With such an upgrade, the cooling system does not need to be strengthened. Everything will work perfectly and not get hot. The maximum that was possible to “shove in” without alterations and welding was a group of 110 cubic meters, but this option also requires improved cooling.

For the most part, everything is done very high quality, so almost no one makes additional changes. Some owners change the wheels to heavier ones and install stiffer shock absorbers to add heaviness to handling on the road. But this is a matter of taste. The finishing also affects the already beautifully streamlined “sport body” of the bike – purely visualization.

Repair and spare parts

How much do parts cost for an Aprilia RS 50?

This bike has no typical faults. On the contrary, many owners note that it is very tenacious. But even if a motorcycle breaks down, it can be repaired without any problems and at a low price. The average cost for original spare parts is as follows:

  • CPG – from 8,000 rubles;
  • stars – 500-2000;
  • chain - about 1000;
  • Battery – 1000-1500;
  • steering wheel handles – 500 (1 pc);
  • rear view mirrors – 2000 (set);
  • turn signals - about 800;
  • starter relay – 2500;
  • steering weights - about 800, etc.

Advantages and disadvantages

pros

  • little weight;
  • excellent maneuverability;
  • strong suspension (excellent frames and shock absorbers)
  • powerful (especially for 50cc);
  • reliable braking system;
  • high quality of assembly and components of the bike;
  • acceptable prices;
  • availability of spare parts;
  • does not require registration under the legislation of the Russian Federation.

Minuses

  • sound – loud (treatable);
  • fuel consumption;
  • When tuning, the service life of parts is significantly reduced.

Factory technologies.

For Aprilia, being the best is not enough. As a result of continuous research and development, significant innovations recently introduced on Aprilia's technology leader, the RSV 1000, have also influenced the new SR. The SR is similar to the RSV 1000 R Factory not only in appearance, but also in technical solutions.

Now SR is completely updated. More modern in style, this latest SR boasts better performance, improved fuel consumption and greater reliability thanks to the second generation Ditech fuel-injected engine. It is also equipped with a completely new frame for better handling.

Comparison with analogues

After conducting an in-depth analysis of reviews of the Aprilia RS 50 and its three most famous analogues (Yamaha TZR 50, Yamasaki Scorpion YM50-A4, Honda NS 50 F), the following was revealed:

  • the bike from the Italians is much more versatile, it is light, powerful, and maneuverable - not every copy can boast of such parameters in total;
  • the tank volume is larger than that of analogues, which is good news;
  • design, of course, there is no debate about taste, but the RS 50 is definitely better in terms of style.

Owner reviews

It's rare, but there were practically no negative reviews. All owners note the bike as an excellent option for everyday trips around the city and safe learning to ride sportbikes. In general, see for yourself.

Verdict

At the end of the review, it is necessary to announce the verdict on the bike. Apparently, the Aprilia RS 50 is not an option for experienced drivers. This motorcycle is ideal for those who want to learn all the basics of driving sportbikes and in the future switch to more powerful machines. Well, or for those who want to avoid traffic jams on a two-wheeled unit and look very cool at the same time. Finally, we present to you the main advantages of the Aprilia RS 50:

  1. Ease of operation: maneuverable, safe, fast, does not require registration.
  2. Submitted to tuning, which will help to get a good increase in the efficiency of the bike.
  3. Reliable (rarely breaks) and not difficult to repair.
  4. Handsome, aggressive, as they say, in style.

It will teach you how to operate a sportbike and give you very important experience before getting on a powerful unit.

Style: small RSV

The uncompromising sporty look of the SR 50 is faithful to the world of racing. As always, Aprilia not only offers the best available technology, but also insists on the best design. The SR 50 R Factory is the embodiment of technology and passion. Its aggressive styling, carried over from the RSV 1000 R Factory, guarantees an emotional ride and eye-catching beauty.

Take one look at the SR 50 R Factory and you'll agree that it really is a small RSV. The similarity is felt not only in appearance, but also in technical solutions.

Streamlined leg protection, powerful twin headlights, a central air intake and an aerodynamic tail with integrated brake light and turn signals, all just like on Aprilia's supersport leader. When creating the SR 50 R Factory, attention to detail has reached unprecedented levels for a sports scooter. Even the color schemes are new, aggressive and lively, just the way they should be on a sports car that refuses to compromise.
