A red motorcycle and other signs that your man is having a midlife crisis

It’s a great plan, but you’re not at all happy about flying to a tropical climate and leaving behind everything you’ve acquired, including your outstanding mortgage. He will be looking for the meaning of life, and what are you going to do - get coconuts?

We need to act here. Having become hostage to a midlife crisis, a man can decide to do a lot just to prove to himself that he is not a workhorse. He just needs to relax, so a trip together somewhere nearby may well cure him of his tropical fantasies.

Leave and do nothing at all for several days - sleep, eat and have fun. In a week he will ask to come back, because it is impossible to live in a jelly-like state for a long time.

Vyatka VP-150

The first scooter produced on the territory of the Soviet Union was the Vyatka VP-150. The prototype was taken from the Italian Vespa, produced in 1955. The Vyatsko-Polyansky Machine-Building Plant produced motor scooters from 1957 to 1966. For almost 10 years, more than a million copies of “Vyatka” were sold in the USSR. Subsequently, the scooter received the unofficial title of “the most disco” transport.

Construction[ | ]

The DKW Luxus 300 was chosen as a prototype. The design was classic for those years. Stamped frame with bolts[4], spring front suspension, rear wheel unsprung. The engine is two-stroke, single-cylinder, with a volume of 293 cubic centimeters. Engine and reverse gears are chain. The gearbox is three-speed, gears were manually switched using a lever[5].

The weakest part was the electrical system. In the flywheel magdino, one coil served the ignition, and the other two were connected to a small headlight. There was no tail light or electrical signal on the motorcycle. The use of such a simplified scheme made it possible to obtain quite bright light when driving in first gear, but at high speeds the headlight bulb often burned out. When moving to higher gears, the light intensity noticeably decreased, which, of course, was very inconvenient[5].

IZH-49

The IZH-49 was created for driving across the vast expanses of our homeland. In the period from 1951 to 1958, motorcycles were produced at the machine-building plant in the city of Izhevsk. For the transportation of goods there was a modification with a sidecar. The motorcycle was characterized by a high degree of reliability and cross-country ability.

Many Russian families still have Soviet motorcycles inherited from their grandfathers. Do you have a rarity from the USSR era in your garage?

The first serial Soviet motorcycle

Motorcycles of the first years of production were produced in 1933. Had 300 cc. see engine displacement (encrypted in its name, the letter “L” meant the city of Leningrad, 300 displacement of the motorcycle).

L-300 was produced at.

Motorcycle technical data:

The engine is single-cylinder, two-stroke, displacement 293 cm3, power 6-6.5 hp. The motorcycle accelerated to a maximum speed of 75 km/h. The fuel tank had a capacity of 12 liters. The consumption of the L-300 was 4-4.5 liters per 100 km. There are three stages in the transmission. Dry weight - 125 kg.

Unfortunately, a little more than a few dozen of these beautiful and amazing devices have survived to this day. There are even fewer original cars. Although the volume of L-300 “Red October” produced over the nine-year period from 1931 to 1940 amounted to 18,985 motorcycles.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, L-300s helped the front and contributed to the approach of Victory. These were workhorses for scouts and couriers.

M-72

This motorcycle was produced at five large automobile factories in Moscow, Leningrad, Gorky, Kyiv and Irbit. In 1941-1960, production of the M-72 was launched in large quantities. However, until 1955, the motorcycle was intended only for use in the armed ranks of the Soviet army. Later it became available to ordinary citizens of the country. In total, about 8,500 copies of the motorcycle were produced. After the end of the Second World War, the motorcycle entered service with the police.
