Keanu Reeves and his motorcycles: the actor's stunning collection

ARCH KRGT-1 2020

This is an evolution, not a revolution, of Keanu Reeves and his love of motorcycles, the result of more than twenty significant changes requiring 150 newly designed and manufactured components, says the press release, in which synonyms for the phrase “bespoke” appear a little more than often , meaning that it is while riding the Arch that you become yourself.

Kawasaki Enduro

The actor says that the first motorcycle he learned to ride was an Enduro. Keanu was filming a movie in Munich, and there they lent him a similar bike and taught him how to ride. The actor then returned to Los Angeles and immediately bought one for himself. It was 1986 and Keanu's first motorcycle was a Kawasaki Enduro.

BACKGROUND

Keanu Reeves has always been obsessed with motorcycles.
There is even a clause in his contract that while the filming period is underway, he must not sit in the saddle. Keanu Reeves, actor, co-founder of Arch Motorcycles: “Sometimes I followed this point, and sometimes I didn’t... Oops!”

Keanu Reeves has about ten bikes of different brands in his personal collection, but he always wanted to have a motorcycle that no one else has. One day he asked the famous Californian master Gard Hollinger to customize his bike. And it turned out that they had one dream between them: to rethink the American cruiser - a motorcycle for long-distance travel. Keanu Reeves, actor, co-founder of Arch Motorcycles:

“For me it’s all about physical sensations: vibration, wind, noise. In addition, this is a great opportunity to be alone with yourself. If I don’t race for a long time, I start to feel withdrawal symptoms.”

ACCESS TO THE MARKET

The partners presented the first premium motorcycle in 2015.
It was called KRGT-1, where KR are the initials of Keanu Reeves. The motorcycle is equipped with a V-shaped engine with a volume of 2032 cubic centimeters and a power of 121 hp. The frame is made of steel and aluminum, and the rims are made of carbon fiber. Also notable are the 6-piston calipers, adjustable footrests and a digital instrument panel with fingerprint recognition. The motorcycle is capable of reaching speeds of over 200 km/h. Keanu Reeves, actor, co-founder of Arch Motorcycles: “For the most part, I am promoting our common dream and goal. I represent the company on the market, tell them who we are and what we do. I won’t be able to assemble or repair a motorcycle, but I can test it and tell you what’s wrong.”

ARCH KRGT-1 2021

ARCH Motorcycle presents the new KRGT-1

  • More than twenty significant changes requiring the development and creation of more than 150 new components
  • Equipped with a 124-inch ARCH X S&S V-twin
  • Each Arch motorcycle is created in close collaboration with the client, making each KRGT-1 unique and individually created specifically for its owner
  • Available to order now

Los Angeles-based ARCH Motorcycle is pleased to introduce the new ARCH KRGT-1 cruiser , an evolution of the custom motorcycle concept that sets the bar incredibly high in the performance cruiser category. Continuing ARCH Motorcycle's philosophy of simple and elegant design with state-of-the-art performance, the new KRGT-1 features over 20 significant changes requiring over 150 new components.

The new ARCH KRGT-1 motorcycle has an updated body kit, modified suspension, improved ergonomics, and modern components of braking and safety systems.

The KRGT-1 was originally created to realize the potential and push the boundaries of the American V-twin motorcycles we are accustomed to, says ARCH Motorcycle co-founder Gard Hollinger. -Our new KRGT-1 remains true to the original concept, while at the same time being a further development and improvement of the motorcycle design and its power elements, improving the riding experience.

Engine

S&S/ARCH engine

The latest generation of ARCH KRGT-1 motorcycles is based on the renowned 124-inch S&S/ARCH EPA/CARB certified engine. The engine features a shop-built downdraft intake system and a proprietary K&N air filter. Exhaust gases exit through an ARCH 2-into-1 stainless exhaust system and a Yoshimura carbon muffler. The power unit produces impressive low-end traction from the very first millimeters of throttle travel.

The new KRGT-1 fulfills ARCH Motorcycle's ambition to create a beautiful and unusual machine that handles like no other motorcycle. Through corners and straights - precise, confident, comfortable - it provides an unrivaled riding experience, says ARCH Motorcycle co-founder Keanu Reeves. -We have focused on the most important things: everything from fit to finish, from small details to the overall level of performance, exceptional quality throughout - this is how our motorcycle characterizes ARCH.

Chassis

Designed and manufactured in-house, the race-style milled aluminum swingarm increases structural strength and reduces unsprung weight for improved handling and a lighter ride. The rear suspension of the motorcycle is complemented by a fully adjustable Öhlins shock absorber created specifically for the ARCH. The chassis features in-house aluminum side panels that cover the new swingarm spindle and updated engine insulation mounts.

Controllability

For greater stability, tire feedback and overall handling, the new KRGT-1 features massive 48mm Öhlins forks with NIX technology. New custom milled aluminum cross members support the front suspension. The unique inverted fork lower mounts, jointly developed by ARCH and Öhlins, are designed to accommodate 130mm radial calipers.

Together with Bosch, the company developed a dual-channel anti-lock braking system for the KRGT-1, which comes stock. New dual six-piston ISR calipers feature larger piston diameters, delivering increased stopping power and more responsive performance with less brake lever effort.

Body kit ARCH KRGT-1

The new ARCH KRGT-1 cruiser body kit includes a redesigned fuel tank, tail section and seat. The aluminum tank has been redesigned for a more comfortable fit, while maintaining the original 18.9 liter capacity. In addition to the new tank shape, the tail section has also been redesigned to accommodate the new composite seat. In addition, the front fairing has been redesigned - it has acquired a new shape, size and location, and inside it is a new instrument panel. Below is the JW Speaker Adaptive 2 headlight. Newly shaped carbon fenders complete the silhouette of the bike.

The motorcycle's updated hand and foot controls result in new ergonomics for the KRGT-1. Magura clutch and front brake master cylinders were selected to meet the highest demands for functionality, sensitivity and feedback. The in-house foot controls have been redesigned for increased comfort, sensitivity and precision.

Ultra-light Blackstone Tek (BST) carbon five-spoke wheels shod with Michelin Commander II connect the new ARCH KRGT-1 to the road for optimal handling.

Each ARCH motorcycle is created individually in close collaboration with the customer throughout the entire 90-day production cycle. As a result, each KRGT-1 is unique, created according to the requests of its owner.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

The motorcycle turned out to be expensive - almost 80 thousand dollars, which is four times more expensive than a Harley and twice as expensive as a Ducati.
The next two motorcycles were no cheaper, and the Arch Method 143 model is also a conceptual cruiser for luxury lovers, which is assembled in a limited edition of 23 cars. But even this amount is more typical of a serial bike, rather than a custom one (piece by definition). At the same time, all three motorcycles of the brand do not have a distinctive feature that immediately attracts attention, says world champion in customization Dmitry Golubchikov. Dmitry Golubchikov, World Champion in customization: “In Russia, for 6 million you can build such a gun that its photographs will flood all public pages - not only Russian, but throughout the world. I mean, in Russia you can build a very cool motorcycle for that money.”

Among the advantages, Dmitry highlights the stylish design, high seating position, which promotes better taxiing, and the materials from which the bikes are made. Dmitry Golubchikov, World Champion in customization:

“This is not a show-off, this is everything that customers love: carbon, aluminum, new shapes. Not some factory black plastic, but the kind of detailing that you want to touch with your hands. This motorcycle has it all and, in principle, this is what captivates us.”

Models[edit]

As of November 2021, Arch produced three models that were later customized to individual customer requirements: the KRGT-1, 1s, and Method 143. [6] Each model is described as an "American performance cruiser"—a motorcycle according to Reeves and Hollinger , designed in typical American motorcycle style with the comfort and range of a cruiser, but with performance closer to a sports bike. [2]

The 1s and Method 143 take on a sportier, more aggressive stance and design. The Method 143 is described as a "concept" because it has an unusual and striking appearance, much like concept cars. [2] [3]

Brough Superior 1927

And another bonus from Keanu - tips for beginners. The actor, who himself has been involved in serious motorcycle accidents more than once (because of them, by the way, he lost some of his teeth and spleen, and also has a lot of scars and fractures), first of all, recommends taking courses. And then start with small “cubes”, buying a bike where your feet will reach the ground and which will be easy for you to control. But if this is not suitable for you, then he asks you to at least not overdo it. Keanu is sure that if you don’t have experience, you don’t need to buy a sportbike, whose power is simply off the charts. To begin with, the motorcycle must be safe and comfortable, but high power can quickly tire you out, the actor assures. And when all the conditions are met, “have fun,” advises Reeves. Try not to let him down, future bikers and motorcycle lovers!

Norton Commando 850 MK2A

Just a year later, the actor bought a second motorcycle - a 1973 Norton Commando 850 MK2A. The actor shares that since childhood he was attracted by the “raised” pipes of the two-cylinder Englishman. And he notes that these motorcycles have always been distinguished by their unique frame, in which the engines were mounted on silent blocks that dampen vibration. As a result, Norton has a special sound and its own smell, which appears when the oil “heats up” at speed - these are the qualities for which Keanu loves this motorcycle. I must admit, this motorcycle really suits Keanu, it makes the actor even more mysterious and brutal.

The actor has clocked up a decent amount of mileage, but is in no hurry to sell the motorcycle. “This, of course, is not a super-fast bike, not for walking at a speed of 250 km/h, but it never goes, maximum 220 km/h,” the actor laughs.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

Keanu admitted that he used to sign a contract before filming a film that prohibited him from riding a motorcycle, since actors are a valuable asset and studios wanted to protect themselves. However, Reeves did not always comply with this point. Oops. It's no surprise that when you have a Kawasaki Ninja in your garage, it's hard to resist. The motorcycle's power is 167 hp, and it can accelerate to 290 km/h. The actor quite often rides his bike to race tracks with his friends - each of them has similar sports motorcycles. Reeves loves traveling together to the Santa Monica mountains, where there are no traffic jams or speed limits, and when he wants to drive, he rolls out the Ninja ZX-10R from his collection.

Norton Commando 850cc

Keanu rode this yellow motorcycle in the movie “My Own Private Idaho.” This was in 1991, and Reeves was already an avid motorcycle fan, so after filming he simply took this Norton to his budding collection. The actor still remembers filming on this “iron horse” with warm feelings.

Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide

It would be strange if Keanu could resist the Harleys and didn't buy one for his collection. The actor chose the Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide, a classic from the nineties that is still prized by collectors today.

Method 143

Keanu speaks about this motorcycle with great pride and special excitement in his eyes. Of course, it has 2300 cm³. The actor notes the futuristic design, layering and combination of different materials: aluminum, carbon fiber, smooth transitions into leather in the seat upholstery. The motorcycle is really difficult to manufacture, so mass production is not planned yet.

And finally, we want to share with you a list of motorcycles that Mr. Reeves dreams of riding, but so far he has not had such an opportunity.
