The BRP Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC immediately stands out among other utility snowmobiles. The model from the Canadian brand is built on the REV-XU platform and has an aggressive design. Instead of classic racks with a telescopic system, the equipment is equipped with A-shaped arms, complemented by a lateral stability stabilization system. Coupled with adjustable front shock absorbers (adjustment height – 210 mm), this technology ensures smooth and easy movement. Another feature is the rear shock absorbers with body height adjustment (range – 340 mm). Thanks to this, the device is suitable for forest roads with loose and deep snow and for compacted trails.
To drive fast and ensure high traction, the model has the following elements:
- powerful Rotax E-TEC engine;
- ski extensions;
- huge tracks with a width of 500 mm;
- high lugs;
- steering wheel adjustment;
- driver's handrail.
The curved handlebar, complemented by a mountain strap, and the high position of the instrument panel make the Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC equally comfortable to use in a standing position during aggressive movement and in a standard sitting position. This placement provides easy control of the operating parameters of the equipment.

The weight of the structure is distributed along the length of the snowmobile. Together with a long caterpillar, this feature allows you to overcome uneven terrain and climb steep slopes without slipping. High lugs ensure easy movement on any off-road terrain, including ice. In terms of capabilities, the Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC can be compared with a good mountain all-terrain vehicle. Low gear ratios make it easy to transport heavy loads in harsh conditions.
The one-piece chassis and angled tunnel allow for a narrower seat to maintain a natural riding position. Heated steering wheel grips and seats make long trips more comfortable. The base seat has a large compartment for transporting things. An additional passenger seat is available as an accessory.
The BRP Links Commander 800 has new skis with the Blade XC blade, which are characterized by excellent handling with minimal effort. The weight of the skis is 2.2 kg less than that of standard Blade skis. The snowmobile display is informative and clear. The windshield has been preserved in its original form.
Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC is a relatively new model, but it already has several interesting modifications. The modifications to the snowmobile were carried out by Finnish specialists from the BRP division. Initially, the Lynx Commander 800 Xtrim R E-TEC version was presented, differing from the basic version with a sporty front suspension and an upgraded engine, which made the device faster.
A year later, the Lynx Xtrim Commander 800 Touratech R E-TEC premiered - a previous modification with bright tuning from the German company Touratech. The result is a snowmobile with reliable suspension, sporty energy consumption and maximum comfort. Another innovation is the electrically adjustable rear suspension, which can be adjusted directly from the steering wheel. The front suspension remains the same.
Basic equipment of the snowmobile:
- steel steering wheel with handles and driver's handrail;
- one-piece windshield;
- electric starter;
- towbar;
- rearview mirror;
- heated handles;
- digital multifunctional information center.
The BRP Links Commander 800 is the standard in the utilitarian snowmobile segment, which is equally good for touring trips and hard everyday work.

Engine
The BRP Links Commander 800 snowmobile is equipped with the latest Rotax 800R E-TEC engine with a 3-D RAVE system. The engine uses a mixed cooling system, including a radiator with an electric fan and liquid-type cooling, thereby maintaining optimal temperature and stable operation. The engine starts instantly by simply pressing a button (electric starter).
The Rotax 800R E-TEC has little in common with classic 2-stroke units. The direct injection system controls mixture formation. Fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber at the moment the intake and exhaust ports are closed, which ensures stable operation and efficiency. The motor runs smoothly and with minimal noise, which is reminiscent of 4-stroke models. A large reserve of power allows you to pull a snowmobile with a full load.
Other features of the Rotax 800R E-TEC unit include:
- low fuel consumption (about 12.3 l/100 km at a constant speed on a prepared road);
- start from the first revolution;
- low level of emissions of harmful substances;
- instant response of the throttle trigger;
- large power reserve - up to 325 km (on a prepared road);

»In 1934, as part of a competition to create a combat coastal bomber in the United States, the iconic Boeing Flying Fortress was designed. It was the “Flying Fortress” that became the first mass-produced American all-metal heavy four-engine aircraft, which, thanks to its deadly efficiency and unique ability to return to its home airfield even with serious damage, acquired the status of a legend. It was the B-17 that became one of the most notable and key figures in the history of world aircraft manufacturing in the middle of the last century. Perhaps our today’s hero has every chance to repeat the fate of the “Flying Fortress” and become a one-of-a-kind machine that determines the direction of development of the entire industry for many years to come!
In search of new customers and markets, the world of snow machines is constantly changing. Today, the mixture of established stereotypes and styles, the Brownian movement of engineering and the emergence of new, previously unknown types of snowmobiles are quite commonplace. In addition, in recent years it has become difficult to surprise sophisticated and spoiled riders with anything. Watching the production search for new capabilities of classic snowmobile equipment, the public has seen a lot: universal dual-purpose vehicles and utilitarian machines built on the most progressive sports platforms, unprecedented ergonomic delights and complex engineering solutions used on modern “sports” and “mountain” vehicles... But There has probably never been a snowmobile like the Lynx Xtrim Commander 800 E-Tec on the market! It combines all the practical, utilitarian features of a heavy and reliable wide-track Wide Track machine with the powerful and explosive two-stroke character of the Lynx and Ski Doo sports models.
Design
The Finnish snowmobile is built on the LXU platform, traditional for “scrap” Lynx. In general terms, it resembles the Canadian development REV-XU - naturally, with its own original features. The frame, designed in Rovaniemi, differs from the steel “skeleton” of Ski Doo snowmobiles in its more monumental structure and is adapted for the installation of the proprietary Finnish suspension PPS 5900 A (Pauli Piippola Suspension), which originally came from the world of cross-country snowmobiles. KYB 36/46 rear shock absorbers are responsible for damping the rear suspension. At the front, the snowmobile's suspension is mounted on traditional A-arms and adjustable KYB 36R shock absorbers.
Another hallmark of the LXU is the beveled tunnel ribs, which allow even when using WT (Wide Track) tracks with a width of 500 mm to provide a good level of comfort, especially when riding standing! The track length is 3923 mm, and the lug height is 44 mm. Such almost “mountain” values make it possible for Xtrim Commander to drive through snow of any depth and degree of “puffiness”.
But to spin such a huge caterpillar, an engine with a real “masculine” character is required. And, naturally, such a setup was found in the BRP family of snowmobiles! This is the already legendary 2-stroke 2-cylinder Rotax 800R E-TEC engine with a displacement of 799.5 cm3 and a power of 163 hp. With. The lightweight and powerful engine has outstanding fuel efficiency, consuming just 11.2 l/100 km. A snowmobile equipped with such a motor can travel 325 km on one gas tank fill! Today, this outstanding powerplant can be found in almost all top-end Ski Doo and Lynx sports machines. To stoically withstand increased loads, the engine cooling system is equipped with an additional radiator and fan. Also, to give the Xtrym Commander real utilitarian characteristics, the model’s transmission features a reduction gear, allowing you to easily tow heavy sleds and sleds, as well as storm the steepest snow-covered slopes.
In business
The very first drive of the Lynx Xtrim Commander showed that the Finns’ car turned out to be very, very interesting. At low engine speeds, the snowmobile behaves like an ordinary wide-track “utility.” Heavy and clumsy. Excessive directional stability, dictated by a giant long caterpillar, and excessive (especially compared to sports models) weight!
But you just have to press the gas trigger, and the car seems to be replaced: cannon-like accelerations, sharp and not always controlled accelerations make it absolutely clear that there is a serious and “adult” power plant under the hood. Thanks to the symbiosis of a wide track and a powerful sports engine, Lynx automatically wins the “Powder Conqueror” category. Riding through deep snow on this snowmobile is a pleasure. Xtrim Commander completely calmly storms both snow-covered fields and deep gullies and forest ravines covered with treacherous snow. And, despite its excessively applied massiveness, the device feels great on snowy slopes. With the proper skill, you can quite easily “traverse” on it and apply mountain “boondocking” skills in real life! Another use that is perhaps atypical for “scrap”: the snowmobile jumps well, despite its massiveness. The power of the power plant is more than enough for full acceleration, and the legendary PPS adequately handles landings.
If we think sensibly, then, if not for the rather serious price of 719,000 rubles, the Xtrim Commander 800 E-Tec could become the most versatile snowmobile in the world. Thanks to the wide and long track, Lynx can perform any household task: from fishing/hunting trips to transporting sleds of almost unlimited weight. At the same time, a powerful and technologically advanced engine allows the snowmobile not to give up not only for tourism, but also (let’s call it that) for sports use. Frankly, when choosing a snowmobile for everyday use, for example, in the mountainous regions of Siberia, the Urals or the Caucasus, I would think hard about finding additional funds to buy not a simple and boring “utility”, but a new “Flying Fortress” - Lynx Xtrim Commander 800 E -Tec. /
Owner reviews
- Sergey, Yekaterinburg: BRP Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC is a very special device. When you sit on it, you immediately want to press the gas to the fullest and rush forward. For all its incredible power, the snowmobile is very economical and comfortable. I measured the flow rate several times. At 126 km it was approximately 26 liters, which is a little more than 20.5 liters per 100 km. The measurements were taken while driving on normal snow. In terms of dynamics and speed, the BRP Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC is a rocket with easy controls. At the same time, the snowmobile is also incredibly reliable. In 2 years of use there were no breakdowns at all.
- Taiga beast: First impressions of using the BRP Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC are extremely positive. All the parts fit together perfectly, nothing makes noise anywhere, and you feel as comfortable as possible in the seat. The engine starts with one click, the sound is even. During the warm-up process, information appears on the display; when the message goes out, you can drive. Acceleration is like a sports snowmobile. The difference with other models is huge. In the first year of operation I drove a little more than 1000 km. I used a snowmobile with a standard track without studs and was not disappointed. The device went everywhere without any effort. It’s too early to talk about reliability, but so far I haven’t noticed any disadvantages.
- Kent 111: Used to drive a Viking. The Commander is incredibly good in comparison. At first I couldn’t get used to such speed; at the start I even lifted my skis. Accelerated the snowmobile up to 160 km/h. In this case, the steering always remains normal. I didn't really like the position of the glass; it seemed a little low. Snezhik is very balanced and maneuverable. The 44th hook on the track helps a lot (as on mountain models). Thanks to this, the device goes everywhere. The Commander is a mixture of sports and mountain utility. Snezhik will appeal to anyone who is at least somewhat familiar with this type of technology, but the price tag for it is very high. And this is the only drawback of the Commander.
- User without nickname: Traveled only 250 km on the BRP Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC. It’s too early to draw any serious conclusions, so I’ll share my general impressions. I almost always rode the snowflake together with a friend. We climbed everywhere, drove through the steppes and through the forest. The commander walks calmly along any road. I got up only once, it happened on virgin soil while moving uphill. I had to trample the caterpillar and go back. In the end, we left and drove on. Consumption is around 20 liters per hundred, I personally am satisfied with this figure. The speed characteristics are beyond praise, as is the build quality.
Modified versions of the snowmobile
Lynx Commander 800 R E-TEC is a relatively new model, but it already has several interesting modifications. The modifications to the snowmobile were carried out by Finnish specialists from the BRP division. For example, the Lynx Commander 800 Xtrim R E-TEC version differs from the basic version in its sporty front suspension and upgraded engine, which make the device faster. Another innovation in this version is the electrically adjustable rear suspension, which can be adjusted directly from the steering wheel. The front suspension remains the same.
