To do this job, we will need a 10mm socket wrench, as well as a 21mm spark plug wrench or spark plug socket.
So we need to get to the spark plug. Fortunately, access is very easy.
First you need to open the seat and use a 10mm wrench to unscrew the 4 bolts securing the seat to the frame. For a Honda Tact scooter, you will need to unscrew and remove the oil tank cap. After unscrewing the bolts, remove the seat.
Now, turning the spark plug head left and right, we pull it off the spark plug.
After that, take the spark plug wrench and place it on the spark plug. It may turn out that the spark plug wrench is too long and it rests on the frame, making it impossible to put it on the spark plug. This was the case in my case. Therefore, instead of a spark plug wrench, I just took a 21 socket and an adjustable wrench. Unscrew the spark plug counterclockwise.
That's all. Now you can evaluate the appearance of the candle and, if necessary, replace it with a new one, proceeding in the reverse order.

Checking the condition and replacing the spark plug
Spark plugs recommended by the manufacturer for four-stroke engines are A7TC or A7RTC SX. An analogue of these spark plugs is NGK C7HSA or NGK CR7HSA.
The gap between the spark plug electrodes should be 0.6-0.7 mm.
The NGK company produces “cooler” analogues of the A7TC and A7RTC SX spark plugs: • NGK CH6SA - with a heat rating of 6; • NGK CH5SA- with heat rating 5.

Attention! Over-tightening the spark plugs can damage the threads in the spark plug hole of the cylinder head!
How to choose the right spark plug?
The choice of spark plugs for your moped engine should be taken very seriously. The spark plug crowns the operation of the entire ignition system and largely determines the ease of starting and stability of the engine in all modes, fuel consumption and the durability of the engine itself. It is best to install “original” spark plugs. But what if this is not possible?
Unfortunately, there are no generally accepted standards for the designation of candles, which complicates their selection based on interchangeability.
You can make the right choice of spark plug if you base it on the following parameters: 1. According to the design and dimensions of the threaded part. 2. According to the heat number. 3. According to the design of the sealing part. 4. Turnkey size.
The main operational parameter of a spark plug is the heat value, information about the value of which is given by all manufacturers in the designation.
According to their thermal properties, spark plugs are divided into “hot” - for engines with a low temperature load (usually low-speed engines) and “cold” - for working with a high operating temperature and engine compression ratio (higher-speed and air-cooled engines). The heat number is equal to the average indicator pressure at which glow ignition begins. The higher this number, the more resistant the candle is to high temperatures, therefore, the “colder” it is. The glow number of a spark plug is determined by a special installation based on the occurrence of glow ignition.
Glow ignition is an uncontrolled process of ignition of the combustible mixture from the hot working parts of the spark plug. At a spark plug temperature of 500°C and above, carbon deposits, which are carbonaceous substances formed as a result of the combustion of oil and fuel in the engine combustion chamber, burn out. The candle self-cleanses. Soot mainly consists of coke, ash and oil. Due to poor thermal conductivity, carbonated spark plugs overheat, which in turn causes interruptions in the operation of the ignition system.
When the spark plug temperature is less than 500°C, increased carbon formation occurs on the thermal cone of the insulator and the spark plug begins to work intermittently, as high voltage current leaks through the carbon deposits. To ensure uninterrupted operation of the spark plug, the lower part of the thermal cone of the insulator must have a temperature in the range of 500-600 ° C.
If the temperature of the insulator and the central electrode is too high (more than 800°C), glow ignition occurs when the working mixture ignites from contact with the hot cone of the insulator and the central electrode until a spark appears between the electrodes of the spark plug. As a result, the working mixture ignites too early.
If the glow number of the spark plug is less than that required for a given engine, then interruptions in engine operation may occur and starting it will be difficult.
If the glow number of the spark plug is greater than that required for a given engine, this will cause unstable engine operation, increased fuel consumption and a drop in engine power.
Depending on the ambient temperature, you can use candles with different heat numbers I (the higher the temperature, the higher the heat number): • From 0°C to +5°C-NGKCH5SA- with heat number 5; • From +5°C to +15°C - NGK CH6SA- with heat number 6 or NGK CH7SA, A7TC/A7RTC SX- with heat number 7; • From +15°C to +25°C - NGK CH7SA, A7TC/A7RTC SX- with heat rating 7.
How to determine the health of the engine based on the condition of the spark plug?
A spark plug is a good indicator of engine performance. Based on the condition of its electrode, you can determine the quality of the combustible mixture, the setting of the ignition timing, and the correct choice of the brand of spark plug.

What to do if the candles are flooded with gasoline

Reliable folk method. If you have filled your spark plugs with gasoline, before unscrewing and drying them, try starting the engine using the following method: purge mode.
The gas handle is turned all the way to the floor. Use the starter to turn the engine for 10-12 seconds, then release the gas handle. The engine should start. The fact is that in this way, when you close the fuel supply, you blow air through the spark plug.
If the engine does not start, then try to dry the spark plugs. Spark plugs for an injector are no different from an engine with a carburetor. Therefore, we again use the “old” method: we unscrew the candles, clean them of carbon deposits with a brush, dry them with a hairdryer, or on a gas stove or in the oven. We control the gap and screw the spark plugs into place. The motor should start.
For used scooters, professional advice is to clean the spark plugs more often, or, more correctly, change them.
If the spark plugs continue to be constantly filled with gasoline, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics of the spark plugs for quality of spark supply, cleanliness of injectors, spark output from the ignition coil, Hall sensor.

How to change?
We take it, buy it, ask someone for a special spark plug wrench. We put the key on the spark plug, insert a screwdriver into the key and turn the spark plug out. After unscrewing the spark plug - carefully so as not to accidentally drop it into the cooling casing - remove it along with the key
As necessary, we insert a new spark plug into the key and very carefully and slowly screw it into place. When you wrap the candle, do not apply much force to it, and if you feel that at the very beginning the candle is wrapped tightly, then you have not hit the thread: unscrew it and try to screw it again.
If the candle went easily, wrap it all the way and pull it slightly. It is not advisable to tighten the candles too much; it will be enough to tighten them a little and this will be quite enough.

Let's start adjusting the valves
Let's start with the intake valve, which is located at the top of the cylinder head. We'll need a key for 9. Yes! Not 8, not 10, but 9! Good thing I had a set of sockets in the car. But it is better to use a spanner wrench, which conveniently unscrews the pusher fixing nut on the rocker arm.
Then we need a feeler gauge with a thickness of 0.05 mm, which must be inserted between the pusher and the valve stem. By rotating the pusher, we reduce or increase the thermal gap until the probe moves with slight tension. After tightening the fixing nut, we again check the gap with a feeler gauge, which could have gone astray.
In a similar way, we begin adjusting the exhaust valve.
Before you start adjusting the valves
Therefore, after purchasing a new Alpha RX, I checked the valve clearance. For this procedure I had to buy a set of probes. In our case, you will need a probe with a thickness of 0.05 mm.
In order to calmly begin adjusting the valves, I had to unscrew the safety bars. For this we need a key of 8.
To get to the valves, you need to unscrew the valve covers located on the top and bottom of the cylinder head. To do this we need a 17 wrench. I used a spanner.
