Custom motorcycles in Russian Fine Custom Mechanics

Today there are a huge number of motorcycle manufacturers in the world, which release several new models every year. You can easily name 12 of only the most famous motorcycle brands that are the most popular. It would seem that among the huge range of models you can find a motorcycle to your liking, which will perform all the necessary functions. This may be true, but true fans of two-wheeled vehicles prefer to build their own motorcycle, which will be one of a kind. It was precisely because of the desire of motorcyclists to have a unique motorcycle that a custom motorcycle was invented, which will be discussed in our article.

To appreciate the drive of biker life, look at the sophisticated motorcycles from all sides, and also plunge into the exciting life of the two-wheeled fraternity, you don’t need to go to the cinema. Having acquired 3D glasses, you can watch the film on Youtube.com (this video hosting, by the way, has begun to support the 3D format).

A short version of the experimental film about the best domestic custom bikes is below.

You won’t surprise Russia with homemade motorcycles and tuning. How do customizers differ from homemade ones, which are a dime a dozen in any garage cooperative? Having attended the premiere of a film about the modification of bikes, the website “Behind the Wheel.RF” officially declares: there are differences.

A custom motorcycle is a bike created according to a unique design, existing in one copy, the parts for which are made to order in workshops. This is not a pleasure for beginners or garage workers, however, unlike a vehicle assembled from scrap materials and somehow fitted parts, it is distinguished by the fact that custom is an art. Art that should not only be rolled out for the amusement of passers-by once a year, but should rush towards the wind, turn around, stop, and be easily controlled. In a word, to be a full-fledged driving machine that emphasizes the individuality of its owner.

These are the requirements that show participants around the world face. By the way, Moscow customizer Alexander Fetisov (Wick) is among the top ten best craftsmen in the world; in 2011, he took 8th place at the World Customization Championship.

The film includes stories of the TOP 5 most beautiful domestic bikes. In anticipation of the full version of the film, we present to you all five beauties, as well as their owners and the history of the creation of each iron horse.

Varieties

Before making a bike yourself, you need to familiarize yourself with the known types and features in the design of custom bicycles.

  1. Choppers are the most famous type of custom vehicle, resembling motorcycles in shape and length, and characterized by an elongated handlebar.
  2. Cruiser – has a high degree of reliability. Used for leisurely walks around the city or the beach.
  3. Lowriders - these models stand out clearly among other custom representatives. It often has a twisted frame, bright tuning, and a non-standard steering wheel shape. The owner of such a vehicle attracts the attention of everyone around him. Not everyone has had the chance to see a lowrider bike in person.
  4. Electric bicycles. For the basis of creation, ready-made bikes are used. These vehicles can cover long distances without physical effort.
  5. It is worth highlighting the category of unique bikes separately. As mentioned earlier, species are limited only by people's imagination.

Key points when creating a custom

Before starting assembly, you need to develop a design for the future vehicle on paper. Calculate the necessary parts and what tools will be required. Creating a bicycle is a rather difficult process that requires a person to have the appropriate knowledge and skills.

The assembly process itself can be without fundamental changes, for example, abandoning the manufacture of a new frame, bicycle fork and other large-scale events.

Most riders only upgrade some part of their bike. This way the cyclist gets the best option for him. Each person is based solely on their personal tastes, which are reflected in the final version of the bike.

Some people change the handlebars during the tuning process, turning a hybrid bike into a typical road bike. Other riders are replacing the iron frame with a higher-quality, more expensive carbon fiber option, thereby reducing the weight of the two-wheeler.

However, there is a category of people who are engaged in original custom. For them, this is creating something new and unique.

Unique examples

Several well-known bike customs should be highlighted.

Ipsum

The vehicle was created from waste. The entire bike is made from scissor parts, keys, springs, engine parts and similar parts. Some elements are welded, others are fixed with bolts and nuts. This bike is direct proof that you can create a kind of masterpiece out of any garbage.

Rat

The image of a rat's bicycle came to its creator in a dream. This style involves the use of rusty elements to give the vehicle a brutal appearance.

Created over 3 days. Its author is Dmitry Grachev. This is not the first custom bike in his collection.

Eve

This three-wheeled vehicle is under the authorship of Alexander Kucheryavyi. The bicycle is great for transporting large items. There is a large trunk at the front. It got its name in honor of the niece born to the creator of the bike.

Made from old elements, which ensured a low monetary value. The money, according to Alexander, was spent only on painting the bicycle.

OpenFire

Two brothers decided to start producing custom bicycles. The main principle of OpenFire models is that wheel mounts are created on only one side. The vehicle has a sports fast bike design.

Dmitry, one of the brothers, is responsible for modeling the appearance, and the second brother, Evgeniy, creates the idea live. According to the brothers, this is a hobby that helps to escape from daily worries.

Savings or additional expense?

In some cases, self-assembly of a two-wheeled vehicle is several times cheaper than purchasing a bicycle of the same level.

  1. With frequent upgrades, you can collect a large number of spare parts for a bicycle.
  2. In some cases, you can save money by taking advantage of a discount offer or purchasing one of the items online from a private seller.

However, building a custom bike takes a long time. Less money is spent, but it takes many times more time to get a bike ready to ride.

Four of our five nominees (except for “Mishka”) were collected in domestic studios and Belarusian workshops. One cannot but rejoice that such an unusual movement has its own masters in Russia.

The Chimera motorcycle is a unique project for Russia. This is an example of a so-called full custom, where all the parts are made specifically for this motorcycle, including the frame, engine and transmission. The rest of the bikes are assembled on the basis of the Harley Davidson Custom motorcycle frame. As the owners of the motorcycles said, they are forced to take a factory frame by the requirements of Russian legislation, according to which a completely homemade motorcycle simply will not pass certification. Unique motorcycles built on the Harley-Davidson frame initially have the necessary documents allowing them to travel on public roads.

You can imagine that even with the availability of funds (the amount of which the guys discreetly kept silent about), the construction of a unique motorcycle, on average, takes two years. The plans of Andrey Kuznetsov (Mishka motorcycle) to build a second bike in eight months are laughed good-naturedly by his teammates.

MY MOTORCYCLE

Motorcycles have always differed from cars not only by the presence of tires, but by their individuality. And especially those created by customizers, because they make bikes to their taste and how they want, putting their soul into it. But even among customization there are “cranks” who create something simply inexplicable. I would like to present to you ten unusual custom projects.

So, let's begin:

The largest motorcycle in the world - Ganbas 410

This is not a hallucination, and the people in the photograph are not gnomes. Before us is a real monster from Germany, Ganbus 410, a bus among motorcycles! This motorcycle was built in the German workshop Leonhardt Manufacturing in compliance with all proportions and safety precautions. That is, Ganbas 410 is not just an exhibit for exhibitions and motorcycle shows, it is a truly huge motorcycle capable of performing its main function. I mean, it's on the move - it started it and drove off.

So why 410? What does this marking mean? The Ganbas engine is not 4.1 liter,………….. - but 410 cubic inches , which is... 6,719 cubic centimeters ! Yes, of course, one of the Boss Hoss models has a volume of 502 cubic inches and an eight-cylinder V-twin engine, but on Gnabas with such a volume there is a V-twin! 350 horses accelerate this colossus to a speed of 150 km/h, which is quite enough for the German Autobahn. The wheels are borrowed from a Boeing 746. For such a brute, the speed is quite good, imagine meeting him on the road!?

If we compare the proportions, the Ganbus is approximately twice as heavy as the average cruiser, but has a motor 4 times more powerful, which suggests... that the Ganbus 410 is a light motorcycle for its class. The baby is straight!)))))) Starting price is 190,000 Euro.

The longest motorcycle in the world - three saddles in a row

When this bike turns around, traffic on the street stops in both directions for several minutes. The length of this motorcycle is 4 meters 9 centimeters. It is ridden by its inventor and creator, Steve Martino. Just a mini trailer in length. But how many people can be imprisoned (although it’s popular with us, and only when they’re drunk!)

The fastest stool - from work to home at the speed of sound

Imagine a chair rushing along a busy highway at a speed of 210 km/h. A few years ago, aviation inspector Tom Ridyard built one, using a Yamaha motorcycle engine with a volume of only 180 cubic centimeters.

His Flying Red Chair project uses a custom chrome-moly frame, and the motorcycle sidecar was designed and built by fellow aeronautical engineer Jerry Pearson. Subsequently, the 180 cc engine was replaced with a bushy liter engine from Kawasaki.

The smallest motorcycle – accelerates to a speed of 130 km/h

“I had already worked with Honda Cub engines before, when I saw an advertisement for the sale of this motorcycle, I decided to buy it, although it was in terrible condition, all dirty and rusty. When I cleaned it up and tidied up the engine, it turned out that it was running well, accelerating this motorcycle up to 130 km/h. Then I decided to make a few more modifications, replacing the engine with a 140 cc engine with 10:1 compression from a Chinese crossover, installing a Mikuni carburetor, and lengthening the wheelbase by 20 centimeters.” Conveniently, the gas runs out - on your shoulder and walk home!

Patrick also greatly upgraded the brakes and chassis of the motorcycle; his minimalist creation takes him to work every day.

Purple Fog - two in one

These are not plastic models or computer graphics. Deco Liner – custom based on the 1939 Lincoln Sedan Delivery. To create this device, Terry Cook took ten years of thought and three years to build. Initially, the concept was to combine two modes of transport - a car and a motorcycle. The car is specifically designed to transport a custom 1992 Harley-Davidson Sportster.

The most formidable motorcycle - Boss Hoss-transformer

During the filming of the film “Leatherheads” with George Clooney, a story about football players of the early 20th century, a 1918 Indian V-twin motorcycle with a sidecar was supposed to appear in the frame. The problem arose when the owners of these antique motorcycles quoted the cost of renting such a motorcycle. Suddenly Eddie Paul, whose workshop is engaged in restyling motorcycles, appeared on the horizon and quickly “imitated” the desired Indiana model especially for filming.

Yeddy himself travels every day in one of his creations - the stars and stripes “Chopper One” with a V8 engine, which, after modernization and installation of a supercharger and nitrate, began to produce about 1,500 horsepower. Eddy’s other project is the “Streetfighter” based on Boss Hoss with a huge number of fake guns that perfectly clear the way in a traffic jam.

The most elegant motorcycle - a sidecar carriage

Old Honda GoldWing with sidecar by Mike Smith from Lancaster. Mike has been riding on three wheels for 35 years, and over time he decided to improve the stroller to make the passenger more comfortable.

The most electrified motorcycle - Karl's scientific project

This motorcycle is an electric cruiser with a top speed of 130 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 in 6.8 seconds, with a 5-speed gearbox. Makes virtually no noise when driving. This electric cruiser took part in Sean Murphy's television program "Eco-Tracker", who rode such a motorcycle almost 25,000 kilometers across the United States.

The most fire-hazardous motorcycle is a mahogany masterpiece

This is an exact replica of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, made in Indonesia from mahogany. In the USA you can buy one for $10,000.

It’s true he doesn’t drive!(

The first of the fastest - record holder 1907.

On January 24, 1907, in Ormond Beach, California, Glen Hammond Curtis hopped on this V8-powered motorcycle and set a speed record that stood for nine years, reaching a speed of 219 km/h.

What makes fans of custom bikes, forgetting about cozy sofas and large TVs, stay in workshops at night, building, honing, perfecting their bikes, when the vast majority of fans of a breeze just buy a production model?

Answering a question from journalists, a brutal man Alexey Sheverev (Chimera motorcycle), dressed in a leather jacket, with a glass of whiskey in his hand, suddenly changed his face and in epithets full of romance, said that “custom is something you need to grow into” .

A motorcycle is a part of its creator, every detail, every stroke is born from the depths of the soul. A motorcycle is a child. And if a stock bike gives birth to a spark in the soul, then a custom bike is a flame that flared up from a spark. Well, these are wonderful words, and even if not everyone shares and is inspired by the idea of custom motorcycles, at least customizers and their iron horses have now become closer and clearer to us.

Five of the coolest custom bikes from Russia

What are chopper and bobber?

Chopper is a custom motorcycle that differs from its production prototype (usually a cruiser) in the following parameters:

  • Elongated fork and increased angle of inclination. The so-called springers and other lever-type shock absorbers are especially popular;
  • The seat height is as low as possible; it often even seems that the pilot is riding backwards on the asphalt;
  • Footboards placed forward are often replaced with platforms;
  • All excess plastic and other body kit is cut off;
  • The shape of the steering wheel is most often angular, “horned”; in many cases, the arms are raised high while driving;
  • The classic chopper does not have a front brake, but modern realities allow us to leave this point. But at the same time, all the wires and cables are hidden as much as possible so that they are not noticeable;
  • The tank is small, a couple of liters. There is a lot of free space between the engine and the tank;
  • The front wheel is much larger than the rear and has thin rubber. The rear one is small in radius, but very wide;
  • No front wing.

The bobber is also built on the basis of serial motorbikes. With its general appearance it imitates classic bikes of the 40s and 50s (the so-called old school). The bobber also has several characteristic features:

  • Thick, high-height tires and necessarily spoked wheels of the same diameter;
  • Slight fork tilt;
  • Landing with a straight back, vertical;
  • Single saddle;
  • The wings are short or completely absent.

Both choppers and bobbers very often do not have rear suspension, the so-called hardtail. In Russian they are called “crackers”. There are also softtails - hidden rear shock absorbers, so that it seems that there is no suspension and the frame is rigid.

Electric bicycles

Nowadays, the trend of assembling electric bicycles has become very popular. This is a useful and environmentally friendly mode of transport, so more and more people prefer them.

This self-assembly solution is very suitable if you want to do something with your own hands or if you want to buy an electric bicycle, but there are no dealers in the city selling such equipment.

Making such a bike is quite simple. Components for an electric motor can be found in many online stores, and most of them are not particularly difficult to install.

A bicycle converted into an electric model is practically no different in appearance from an ordinary bike, since the parts are small in size and not noticeable.

In order to assemble an electric bicycle, it is very important to choose the right set of equipment. Usually it consists of the electric motor itself, a battery and a charger.

It is very important to choose high-quality parts, because the integrity and operational features of the bicycle directly depend on the safety of their operation and wear resistance.

In conclusion

In conclusion, let’s take a closer look at the features of the helmet, brief information about which is given above. The design of the product is an originally formed body made of composite material with the inclusion of carbon fiber. The damping layer is made of a foam base and internal removable elements. The helmet is also equipped with various types of protective visors (glasses). Additional comfort is provided by a two-mode ventilation system. The weight of the product is standard for this type of accessory.

A little more about the Urals

The production of custom motorcycles based on the domestic prototype was carried out by a number of craftsmen and companies. Among them:

  1. Modification from Krivoy Rog, developed by enthusiastic master Konstantin Motuz. The car's engine was redesigned, but they decided to leave the carburetor in place. The front suspension was removed, replacing it with a Kawasaki Ninja fork. The unit was also equipped with a four-mode KMZ type gearbox. The weight of the car was 180 kilograms.
  2. "Bobber Ural" Fashion. This miracle of technology was created in the Kiev studio Dozer Garage. The varnished device is equipped with a 650 cc engine, the frame has been redesigned, but the light elements and gas tank are borrowed from its “brother” - the Dnepr. The spoked wheels were equipped with beautiful Shinko Super Classic tires.
  3. "Coffee machine with stroller." This custom motorcycle, the photo of which is below, did not receive any special modifications. Its originality lies in the fact that the developers installed a coffee making machine in the stroller. In addition, the design now includes an umbrella that protects from bad weather.
