Triumph Bonneville 2021. Details about seven updated models

Triumph Bonneville 2021

Just imagine: not one, not two, but seven updated 2021 models from Triumph will take their rightful place on showrooms alongside the Trident, Tiger 850 Sport, Speed Triple 1200 RS previously announced for this model year. Now seven models of the Bonneville family have become compatible with Euro 5 requirements, but not only that.

Triumph Bonneville 2021

Triumph's press release is filled with adjectives like "timeless, classic, authentic, legendary, retro" to describe the T120, T120 Black, T100, Street Twin, Speedmaster and Bobber. All have been updated for 2021 in terms of construction, performance, handling, design and finish. “But these are six models, where is the seventh?” you might think. The seventh is a limited edition Street Twin called the Gold Line, of which 1,000 units will be produced by May.

The Bonneville family includes motorcycles designed for riding on country roads. These models are equipped with a two-cylinder engine, indescribable British charm and excellent ergonomics, making them a pleasure to drive. But the design team is constantly working to improve these models, and the transition to Euro 5 was accompanied by another update to models whose history dates back to 1959 and the first Triumph Bonneville.

The direction indicators are automatically switched off as soon as you enter a straight line. And the chrome mirrors are simply perfect: no vibrations and excellent visibility. Other manufacturers should learn from this! But the real gem is the engine. He confidently accelerates the motorcycle in top gear from 1500 rpm - this is with the throttle fully open, but if the throttle is only half open, then it pulls from 1000 rpm. But this is only slightly higher than the idle speed - 850 rpm. The cruiser is very easy to control at low speed, even tight turns do not bother you - the chassis is perfectly balanced, and the cable-driven clutch is quite predictable. And what a pleasure it is to rush along the motorway at a speed of 130 km/h - the tachometer needle lies at 3500 rpm, only halfway to the red zone. At the same time, the pulsating sound is just like that of a V-twin: after all, the crankshaft cranks are spread 270 degrees. Two balance shafts effectively dampen any vibration - up to the maximum 6500 rpm. But the most comfortable range is from 1800 to 4000 rpm, when the torque is so great that you can easily take on the steepest climbs.

Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black 2021

Triumph Bonneville T120 2021

For the new model year, the 1200cc and 900cc High Torque inline-twins have been updated to "exceed Euro 5 requirements" according to head of brand management Miles Perkins. It is the older of them that is installed in the Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black models, and for the first time in the 5 years of existence of the returning model, it received evolutionary updates. The power figures for both models have not changed, but that's not the main thing for these motorcycles. A lightweight crankshaft, updated clutch shaft and balance shaft reduce inertia, improve throttle response and contribute to an overall weight reduction of 7kg.

Lightweight aluminum rims on spoked wheels, 18-inch in front and 17-inch in rear, also helped reduce the weight of the Triumph Bonneville T120, and the 2021 models also received improved Brembo brakes and two front discs. For the first time, cruise control is easily adjusted with a single button on the left remote control, and two driving modes, Road and Rain, have been “improved.” Two pointer instruments received “new premium 3-dimensional branded scales.” The T120 will be available in two colors: Cordovan Red/Silver Ice and Cobalt Blue/Silver Ice.

The Triumph Bonneville T120 Black will feature blackened wheels and engine covers, while the color schemes will be... um... black. Actually, it's Jet Black, Matt Jet Black and Matt Graphite with silver trim.

There are 116 factory accessories available for the Triumph Bonneville T120, including heated grips (however, they were stock on the 2021 model).

But still, the car is controlled with unexpected ease - and you can’t tell that it has 305 kg of dry mass. It’s good that its creators did not succumb to the temptation to push the rear “cylinder” by 250 millimeters, like many competitors. The Metzeler rear tire is a decent size 200/50-17, just like a sportbike! But “sports” do not have such a steering wheel to steer the motorcycle into a turn. So the British cruiser clings to the road with commendable zeal, handles well and shifts into S-shaped turns with an agility that is completely unexpected with such a chassis geometry. Of course, you won’t be able to corner the motorcycle in such a way as to scrape the asphalt with your elbow, but the bike is extremely stable when cornering at high speed. And the brakes are simply magnificent by class standards! I've ridden all sorts of cruisers - American, Korean, even Australian and Chinese - and believe me, no competitor has such brakes. But if the driver is accustomed to conventional cruiser brakes, then he will have to change his skills and use not only the rear, but also the front brake. The instrument panel with a large speedometer and integrated tachometer and LCD display is located on the gas tank.

Triumph Bonneville T100 2021

Triumph Bonneville T100 2021

The key news about the 2021 Triumph Bonneville T100 is the 18% increase in peak power (to 64.1 hp) of the 900 cc inline-two, which is now Euro 5 compliant. In addition, the engine's peak power has been moved higher in the rev range - from 5900 rpm /min on the 2021 model up to 7400rpm. The maximum torque value remains the same, but its peak is also reached slightly higher - at 3750 rpm versus 3230 rpm.

The Triumph Bonneville T100 is a modern classic, simple, stylish, low and narrow, convenient as a training bike (and with the ability to install a restrictor for learner driving license categories). Lightweight engine components, along with a number of other improvements, have reduced weight by 4 kg, and the front suspension and braking system have been improved.

Additionally, the T100 also gets a new dashboard design. The model is available in three colors: Lucerne Blue / Fusion White, Jet Black and Carnival Red / Fusion White, and the factory catalog of accessories includes 117 items.

Motorcycle debut and first success

In 1902, Triumph made its debut on the English market with its first motorcycle model, which sold 500 units within a year. Over the next few years, Triumph motorcycles were successfully sold in their homeland, thanks to which the company expanded production. In 1906, the company formed its final name, Triumph Engineering Co. Ltd., which remained so until 1983.

In 1907, production volume reached 1000 units, and the following year, 1908, motorcycle racer Jack Marshall showed the best result on a Triumph motorcycle in races on the Isle of Man. In 1909, it produced 3,000 motorcycles and introduced its famous Roadster motorcycle, a large-capacity serial cruiser popularly nicknamed the “Trusty Triumph.” During the First World War, the British government placed an order for 30,000 units of this model, thereby seriously supporting the manufacturer.

In the post-war 20s, the company continued to produce bicycles, Triumph motorcycles and began producing cars (1928). In 1937, the company introduced the Triumph Speed motorcycle with a 500 cc engine. see and the ability to reach speeds of up to 150 km/h. Its sports variation Tiger 100, introduced in 1939, was able to demonstrate a speed of 189.93 km/h. In 1940, the company introduced the world's first motorcycle with an alternating current generator - the 3TW Military model, intended for military couriers.

The years of the Great Depression of the 30s affected the state of affairs: the founders of the company left, the automobile brand became unprofitable, as a result of which the motorcycle division was sold on January 22, 1936 to the owner J. Y. Sangster for 41 thousand pounds sterling. With the outbreak of World War II, the enterprise was partially reoriented to the production of military equipment and received a large government order for the production of aircraft engines and motorcycles - 300 units of motorcycles per week.

After the war, the company continued to produce popular pre-war models and introduced new motorcycles - 3T De Luxe (1946), 500GP and TR5 Trophy (1947), 6T Thunderbird (1948) and TRW (1950). In 1951, Sangster sold Triumph to the BSA concern.

Triumph Bonneville Street Twin and Gold Line 2021

Triumph Bonneville Street Twin 2021

Since its introduction in 2015, the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin has sold 30,000 units, making it the best-selling modern Triumph classic. In 2021, the model will be available in two versions: the standard Street Twin and the special Gold Line version, produced in a series of 1,000 copies.

The latest version of the 900cc High Torque twin is Euro 5 compliant, retaining performance figures of 64.1PS at 7500rpm and 80Nm at 3800rpm in the standard version , but this model is also available with a restrictor for the training version. Here, like the T100, it is not installed from the factory: the manufacturer prefers to produce motorcycles without restrictions, and if necessary, the procedure for installing and removing the restrictor is carried out by a dealer mechanic.

As with any modern Triumph classic, style and comfort come first in the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin, so the 2021 model's new twin seat gets new, thicker padding, increasing its height by 5mm to 765mm. New alloy wheels, body panels and other body kit, as well as brushed aluminum headlight mounts and tank badges, differentiate the design of the new version from the previous 2021 version. The two driving modes, Road and Rain, remain the same, as do nice touches such as the LED rear light, switchable traction control and an under-seat USB socket. The model is available in 120 items from the factory accessories catalog, and color options include Cobalt Blue, Matt Ironstone and Jet Black.

Making the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin even more attractive is the special edition Gold Line, limited to 1,000 units in a unique Matt Sapphire Black colorway with hand-applied gold accents by one of Triumph's five leading artists.

Each copy will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Triumph America is a cruiser originally from England, despite the word “America” in the name.
Stylish and unusual, it is guaranteed to attract many looks. English motorcycles are quite rare guests on our roads, which is due to their rather high price, as well as the established opinion about the dubious quality of English equipment at the same time. Triumph America glitters in the sun so much that it hurts your eyes. There is definitely no shortage of chrome on the thoroughbred Englishman, and this chrome is of very high quality, judging by the old motorcycles, on which the chrome coating is generally in excellent condition. In the class of choppers and cruisers, chrome is held in high esteem; there should be a lot of it on any bike, well, with the exception of matte black versions.

The Triumph America is powered by an 865cc inline-two. cm, producing 62 power. This motor is very torquey, without obvious hesitations or dips, and confidently pulls the motorcycle forward in any gear. Subjectively, in terms of its characteristics, it is much closer to classic chopper V-twins than to the high-speed in-line engines of most other motorcycles. Although for the British, in-line engines on their motorcycles are as classic as the V-twin for the Americans.

In early versions of motorcycles, the engine is powered by a carburetor, but a few years ago, injectors began to be installed on the new Triumph America, which made it possible to slightly reduce fuel consumption in the same modes - it must be admitted that the injector is still more economical than the carburetor. Otherwise, this model remains virtually unchanged from year to year, with the exception of the available coloring options.

Wheels of the same size, and even with alloy wheels instead of classic spoked rims, visually make the Triumph America long and low - all according to the canons of a cruiser style. The English could never be blamed for their lack of taste. Literally everything about this motorcycle screams about an aristocratic breed - all this chrome, precise lines, the chic quality of the paintwork and seat upholstery. It feels like not only the designers, but also the designers did a good job on Triumph America.

True, if you remove the seat with the side covers, or, for example, the gas tank, and look, so to speak, into the insides of the motorcycle, you immediately remember why English quality is sometimes spoken rather unflatteringly. Untidy hanging bundles of wires, lack of proper painting, thick and crooked seams - all this can easily be hidden behind a beautiful wrapper. At least, on several of the motorcycles inspected, this was exactly the case. It seems like nonsense, but still... However, Triumph America is a motorcycle for the soul. This type of equipment is loved not for its technical characteristics, albeit very high ones, but for its style, and for the sake of this style, all minor flaws are forgiven.

Regarding the Triumph America suspension, we can say that it does exist, and that it is no worse or better than that on most other choppers and cruisers. She is, so to speak, simply average, and at the same time practically the embodiment of the standard in her class.

When choosing a motorcycle, you should pay attention to Triumph America if you want to stand out by purchasing such unusual equipment for the CIS countries. As a result, you will get an excellent mid-sized motorcycle, with characteristics very close to, for example, the Honda VT 1100 Shadow or Yamaha XVS 1100 Drag Star. But the Triumph, unlike them, is very rare, and the atypical engine for a cruiser, thanks to proper tuning, will not cause rejection even for a biker accustomed to V-twins. The only thing that is questionable is the chain drive - this is a rarity for modern choppers. The belt would be more technologically advanced, but the designers apparently know better.

It is also worth considering when buying such a motorcycle that there is not so much tuning for it - if you like to remake your equipment, this may be important for you. Of course, there is an official Triumph tuning catalog, it doesn’t have many items, and third-party manufacturers don’t really pamper Triumph America owners with various gadgets and body kits. If the abundance and availability of tuning are crucial for you, you should probably pay attention to Harley-Davidson.

Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 2021

Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 2021

The 1200cc High Torque engine is, of course, tuned to Euro 5 compliance, retaining the famous 270-degree firing pattern as the rest of the Bonneville family. However, thanks to a deliberate increase in mid-range torque, peak thrust now occurs at lower revs, namely 3850 rpm. What's more, 90% of that thrust is available up to 5,750 rpm, so the engine doesn't run out of steam prematurely.

The Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster's high-quality front suspension, based on 47mm Showa cartridge forks, provides a more comfortable ride along with improvements to the driver and passenger seats. The driver's seat has received lumbar support, and the passenger seat has become 11mm thicker, and in addition, the double seat can easily be changed to a single one.

The single round instrument has a new dial, cruise control is standard, and all the high-quality features of the 2021 model are retained in the 2021 version: LED running lights, two riding modes, switchable traction control. The model is available in two new colors, Red Hopper and Fusion White/Sapphire Black, along with the already known Jet Black.

The Speedmaster's catalog of factory accessories includes 79 items, including a flat handlebar instead of a curved one.

history of the company

was founded by Siegfried Bettmann and Moritz Schulte, German merchants who emigrated to Britain at the end of the 19th century. Siegfried Bettmann was engaged in the trade of sewing machines and bicycles imported from Germany. This gave Schulte the idea to jointly produce high-quality bicycle equipment of their own brand. Cooperation between entrepreneurs began in 1887 with the formation of the Triumph Cycle Company. In 1889, the first bicycles produced under the Triumph brand were introduced in the English town of Coventry.

At the end of the 19th century, the idea of switching from a simple bicycle to a bicycle model with a motor was actively developing in the world - the history of the development of the motorcycle began. The newfangled vehicle became increasingly popular, and in 1898 the company, then called The New Triumph Co. Ltd., began its own development of motorcycles based on Belgian engines.

Triumph Bonneville Bobber 2021

Triumph Bonneville Bobber 2021

The Triumph Bonneville Bobber is back, but its Bobber Black cousin is not. The popular modern classic not only received a Euro 5-compatible 1200 cc High Torque, but also became better thanks to an enlarged gas tank - from 9.1 to 12 liters, which is enough for at least 240 km.

Other significant changes to the Triumph Bonneville Bobber include a significantly smaller front wheel, from 19 to 16 inches, an enlarged Showa fork to 47mm, a new standard cruise control with one button control, a new dashboard design, LED headlight with daytime running lights, and black painting the engine, valve cover and sprocket housings. The model will be available in two new, Matt Storm Grey/Matt Ironside and Cordovan Red, and one old, Jett Black, colors.

The catalog of factory accessories for Bobber contains 77 items.

Triumph Thunderbird tail light

What is a “cruiser in English”? I had the opportunity to try out a pre-production Triumph Thunderbird prototype before the official press test. However, if the car differs from the serial one, it is only a little. I must warn you right away: this motorcycle is much better “live” than in the photographs. Designer Tim Prentice managed to create an unusually successful image of how the metal frame envelops the impressively sized engine. Moreover: the device is harmonious - you must admit, this cannot always be said about a cruiser. And the blue paint with white marking stripes brings to mind the AC Cobra - an Anglo-American four-wheel hybrid, a large V8 Yankee tank in the chassis of a light British sports car.

Accessories for Triumph Bonneville 2021

It's hard to imagine a modern Triumph without a catalog of factory accessories designed to decorate, enhance or protect the motorcycle. The Bonneville family is available with 320 factory options in the categories of protection, performance, comfort, style, luggage and safety. All come with a two-year warranty and are available in Triumph's online configurator.

But that is not all. Along with the Bonneville family and the previously introduced Trident, Tiger 850 Sport, Speed Triple 1200 RS models, three updated Triumph Scrambler models will soon be introduced. The 2021 Scrambler 1200 XC and XE are expected to be announced on April 13, with details about the Street Scrambler expected a week later on April 20, 2021.

Triumph Thunderbird panel

I throw my leg over the low - 702 mm - saddle (sorry, Dmitry, but your malice * will not force me to change my signature style) - and find the fit quite comfortable. The saddle is soft, but not excessively - there is no feeling that the foundation of the back (as the British call the “fifth point” - editor’s note) has fallen somewhere. The visibility is excellent, despite the low seat height, and the chrome headlight housing cuts through the air like the bow decoration of a sailboat. The large - 21 liter - gas tank is somewhat reminiscent of the British super classic - Brough-Superior motorcycles, but at the same time it does not force you to spread your knees too wide, to the point of losing the feeling of contact with the motorcycle.

"Triumph America" - a motorcycle of the best traditions of British cruisers

The basis of the Triumph America design was developed so long ago that the cruiser at first glance looks like a true biker classic: a steel duplex frame tightly envelops the engine, the parts are adjusted so that there are absolutely no unnecessary structural elements. The bike looks in the tradition of the best motorcycles of the 60s, but behind the retro appearance hides a powerful, modern cruiser, made using the latest technologies from.

One of the main qualities of a cruiser is comfort; the Triumph America developers created the motorcycle with true concern for the pilot: updated ergonomics with a lowered seat (height 69 cm) allowed the driver to position himself closer to the controls. Moderately forward footpegs, a wide handlebar mounted close to the pilot - all this provides a comfortable classic seating position for a driver of any height. The stylish look of the cruiser is emphasized by a polished 41mm fork set at an angle of 33 degrees, alloy wheels, chrome headlights and many other design elements.

Smooth, classic biker lines, a comfortable fit, a sonorous engine - for all the necessary functionality, the Triumph America could be called a purely classic cruise motorcycle. But... this is a true Briton, different from the bulk of motorcycles in its class. Only in the Triumph America cruiser can you truly appreciate the parallel V-twin, which gives the motorcycle not just a special style, but also confidence on any road. All this is thanks to a powerful engine and a special design that ensures a low center of gravity of the bike. The 860 cm³ two-cylinder engine (with a maximum of 60 hp - 6800 rpm) provides smooth but confident acceleration. The speed obediently responds to the throttle. Gears (5 steps) change easily and freely. The Triumph America's rear and front hydraulic disc brakes with 2-piston calipers stop the car very confidently, creating a safe stopping distance. The instrument panel is conveniently located at the base of the steering wheel and is easy to read.

"Triumph America" is a comfortable, stylish representative of the cruiser class, made in the best British traditions. In its own way, this is a completely unique motorcycle - it is one of the lightest in its class (250 kg). It's a car that handles and rides superbly, and the Triumph America design is a true English classic, ensuring that it turns heads wherever this wonderful cruiser goes. .
