A little background
In fact, it all started earlier. For my birthday at the end of January I was given a motorcycle helmet. With a sly hint that I could buy the scooter I’ve been wanting for so long, half the work has already been done. No, I’m lying, I actually wanted a scooter before.
Well, it’s true, I’ve been looking at different scooters for a long time, used Japanese ones, new Chinese ones. I even looked at the Vespa, although I didn’t understand then what the point was in a scooter with a big engine.
My interest was piqued by the fact that in the backyard of the office there was an office that reassembled used Japanese scooters and sold them again. I came there, sat on one, then another, but the choice was similar to that of a girl: I want a scooter and a red one. Most of all I liked the Honda Julio:

SYM Jet EuroX: promising 2-seater “Taiwanese” scooters
Not only Japanese 50cc scooters, but also Taiwanese small-capacity sports scooters SYM Jet are successfully sold on the domestic market. The SYM scooter line consists of 16 models, 11 of which can be purchased in Russia. Marketers from different countries regularly review scooters from different manufacturers. According to their conclusion, Taiwanese scooters in terms of price-quality ratio are between Chinese and Japanese.
The Chinese company Sanyang began producing and supplying EuroX scooters to Europe in 1997. There are two identical models in the scooter line: EuroX 50 and EuroX 100, with different engine sizes. Fifty cubes for X 50 and one hundred cubes for X 100.
- Parameters of X 50: speed max 65 km/h, power 4.4 hp, weight 94 kg.
- Parameters of X 100: speed max 95 km/h, power 7.0 hp, weight 97 kg.
The engines are carburetor, comply with EURO 2 standards and provide the scooter with a consumption of 2.0 liters per 100 km. The Japanese equivalent, Honda Dio, has a consumption of at least 2.5 liters. The EuroX models used modern technologies: they combined the rear swingarm with the engine, installed an air-oil shock absorber, and took air from the scooter frame.
The average market price of a scooter varies from 53 to 63 thousand rubles, which is one and a half times lower than its Japanese counterparts. In terms of reliability, EuroX is significantly superior to Chinese ones. Proof of high quality is the fact that the company supplies engines and transmissions for Peuget, BMV and Honda.
If we review scooters for sports purposes, then in terms of design quality, EuroX models are not inferior to other most popular models. The scooters received an elegant appearance after the merger of Sanyang and Hyundai in 2000. Ergonomics have also improved: modern quality instruments, turn signals are on the steering wheel, powerful 12V 25W/25W headlights are installed.
Technical data for model SYM Jet EuroX 50:
- Length: 1785 mm;
- Height: 1125 mm;
- Width: 680 mm;
- Base: 1275 mm;
- Ground clearance: 160 mm;
- Gas tank volume: 6.3 liters;
- Load max: 150 kg;
- Engine: cylinder - 1, stroke - 2, SOHC;
- Air cooling;
- Start: kick+electric starter;
- Transmission: variator gearbox;
- Telescopic suspension - front;
- Pendulum suspension - rear;

SYM Jet EuroX scooters are purchased by people of different age groups. They are also attracted by the warranty period of 2 years and mileage of 5000 km. It is worth noting that a significant amount of comfort is provided by a spacious trunk and protection from road dirt due to the design of the wing on the rear wheel. SYM Jet EuroX is a high-speed city scooter.
The agony of choice
In general, the theoretical basis for motorcycles in general and scooters in particular was completely zero. But the decision to buy a scooter in the spring was made. After reading general articles on choosing a scooter, I realized that I wanted a two-seater scooter with a four-stroke engine and a 50 cc engine. And, of course, red. New. Double - because it meant that most of the time I would not be driving alone. A four-stroke engine - despite the fact that it is not as powerful as a two-stroke, is easier to maintain, does not consume oil and lasts longer. 50 cc - because I only have a license of category B, I didn’t want to open A or mow under a 50 cc. Friends scared me with the atrocities of the motorized battalion =). Although already this year they were going to introduce the M category for mopeds up to 50 cm³. And they introduced it in the end. New - because new =)
In general, these are all the parameters by which I chose a scooter. Well, I didn’t want to hire an outspoken Chinese: I’ve heard a lot about the quality of the metal, and he needs to not let me down in an emergency, if that happens.
After surfing the websites of different stores, I compiled a list of 5 models that I liked:
Yamaha Vino - in the vastness of Russia, as a rule, a used moped, bought by cunning businessmen at Japanese auctions, brought to us and sold after minimal processing. Often twisted mileage, often many hidden defects. But damn cool looking, similar to the legendary Vespas and damn hipster. The first exception from my sample is that the scooter is not new.
Nexus Shift is just a cool Chinese thing. I really wanted the same dandelion color as in the picture.
The Sym Mio is another hipster scooter, with a round headlight and retro styling.
Sym Orbit 50 is somewhat similar to Nexus Shift, but from a different company. True, if Nexuses were sold on every corner, then I heard about Sym for the first time. And it cost a little more.
IRBIS LX 50cc 2t is the second exception to the rule, a scooter with a two-stroke engine. What I liked about it was its appearance, almost like a maxiscooter (though I didn’t know that word back then). A little more power and price. It cost almost less than a used Yamaha.
After weighing all the pros and cons, I went to a salon somewhere near the Botanical Garden to sit on Sym Orbit and Mio. Had arrived. Standing side by side: Orbit 50, Mio, Jet4 50 2 t Jet4 50, Jet4 125, Orbit 125. And Orbit somehow looks too simple. But Jet - yes, cool, stylish, and even red. I walked around them all and thought that the Jet would be better, although, judging by its appearance, the only difference was in the face (it turned out that no, the Orbit has a different engine and variator). The store clerk and my friend added fuel to the fire of my doubts. The seller generally offered to buy a 125 cc scooter, with the justification that you can change the speedometer display and remove the 125 cc sticker in order to successfully mow at half a mile. But I was clearly not ready to commit such a forgery, firstly, because I have no driving skills at all, and secondly, driving without a license is too much, shaking around every traffic police post. The Mio, by the way, turned out to be too wide a scooter, although it was only formally a two-seater.
In general, after much persuasion, I bought a red Sym Jet 4 for 50 cubes and some small things for further rides. And I, with difficulty turning the steering wheel of the suddenly heavy moped, slowly drove towards the house.

The desire to buy something with two wheels appeared a long time ago, about 5 years ago. No longer a child. As a child, I didn’t even think about what it was. First, in the winter I started watching motorcycles with a friend. I heard that the best ones are Japanese. Then I chose, my office neighbor advised me to look at well-known sites. Gradually, the choice from 50 cubic meters reached 250, then a wise man from a neighboring office convinced that 400 was optimal. On the sites I fantasized up to 600 cubic meters or up to a liter. I chose from the pictures. I realized that I wanted a sport... On this site, not everyone confidently sits on a liter and rolls in. And not everyone falls. You will soon learn about this. So, the office neighbor shook his head in disapproval. On New Year's Eve, we brought 3 scooters to a nearby store. For a week I walked around this Miracle. I bought it for the wonderful blue color. Inflated forms. New, Chinese, 30t.r. I bought fifty dollars on December 27th. So that the scooter would already winter in the garage on New Year's Day, I took it to the garage late in the evening. I was riding a motorcycle for the first time. I immediately had to go onto the road. It was about -35C, I was wearing cotton pants, ordinary pants, 3 hats, ordinary shoes, 2 gloves. It probably looked like a snowman in shape. Very slippery. The legs were on the sides. Very cold. I think that if I had fallen it would have been soft))). I didn’t understand why he kept going deaf. I've arrived. So I got sick of it.
Motorcycle disease. It led to the next purchase, which was also not properly thought out. Although I have never regretted it, and the new scooter did not let me down. Yolk is my new scooter. SYM JET4-125.
On a hot day, in the spring in April, right after work on Saturday I had to go, the opening of the season was scheduled, the scooter had already arrived for me, new and powerful. Sim 400. This model has just appeared. The color is fire. I bought it, but I wasn’t mentally ready to use such a device. After all, what else was in the stable? I took Sima 125ku. Afterwards I ran it in carefully, it’s very difficult not to step on the gas. Gradually the scooter came back to life and has been working great for 3 years. It has never broken down, never failed, and starts with half a turn. For three years the car was laid up for the whole summer. I did the maintenance myself. Now the mileage is under 5 t.km. The runs are not large, but frequent. Lil liquid moth oil 10*50. Replace every 1000 km. The gearbox contains a kind of oil, 75W140 according to the book, very thick. Lil is also a liquid moth. When driving fast and especially in the rain you need different tires, I wanted to install Michelin. Here is the name of the tire, who needs to change MICHELIN 120/60 ZR17 M/C (55W)925136. Michelin also used to offer tires in the past, but now I don’t see them, they’re not in the manufacturer’s catalogue, they’re not on stock at the selling companies. We'll have to leave it as is.
Now the scooter smokes a little when cold, but after warming up it quickly goes away, it’s been like that for a year now. Judging by the maximum speed, about 100 km/h the compression is normal, but not aesthetically pleasing. The driving mode is only full throttle for 3 years. Consumption is 3.5-4 liters per hundred square meters. I ordered the parts, I'm thinking about taking it apart and checking the rings. Sim is very reliable. Nothing is broken, does not rattle, does not rust. The wheels fell into such holes and wells on our roads that I had to be left without a disk, a fork, a steering wheel and just my hands, but everything was in place. I recommend the Taiwanese stool to everyone. I’ve been thinking about switching to a maxi-scooter or motorcycle for a long time. I personally like the touring capabilities of the technology. From home to work I have 8 km on an excellent, always free highway. I drive through in 5 minutes. The average speed on a scooter is 60 km/h in jeeps. The “convenience” of the Maxik is a soft sofa on wheels, but you can’t get through traffic jams. In city mode in Tomsk, a small scooter is often super mobile in traffic jams, because... The streets of the city are old and narrow, cars are parked closely together, there is no row spacing. Distances around the city are not large, everything is within 15 km. During rush hour it is a continuous and stagnant traffic jam. And on a scooter you pass it and that’s it. I have plans to travel and want a Kawasaki Versys 650, Suzuki V-Storm. Nice upright seating position. Last year I thought about leaving the scooter and buying a motorcycle. What will happen this season?
