Gasoline for pit bikes - how much do you need and what brand?

Fans of motocross and Formula 1 racing know that each team participating in the race has its own garage-workshop on the track. During the competition, fuel is topped up, tires are changed, and some recommendations can be given to the pilot. All these garages have a common name pit line (pit stop). But due to the fact that there are many teams, getting from one end of the territory to the other takes considerable time. To solve this problem, first the Americans, then other countries, created low-power motorcycle, which received the name - pit bike. Literally a pitline bike.

The price tag starts from 25,000 rubles for the simplest models, and from 45,000 rubles for pit bikes, which are suitable for entry-level motorsports.

So what is a pit bike?

In short, a pit bike is a small compact motorcycle that is used in motocross. By the way, it’s correct to write together (pit bike), because On the Internet, especially on social networks, you can come across the name “pit bike” and this is incorrect. Now, let's tell you a little more in detail. In other words, a pit bike is a small motorcycle.
That is, a motorcycle with small wheels, easy to control (and learn to ride), light in weight, compact. The rear wheel diameter of a pit bike is no more than 14 inches. Few people know that the pit bike has a long evolutionary path, because it went through all stages of “development” from an ordinary bicycle to a professional motorcycle. Even the name “pit bike” literally means “bicycle for technical boxing.” This name was assigned to it because previously it (then still a bicycle) was ridden by mechanics, service personnel and the racers themselves.

That’s why such a bicycle had a motor, but that’s a completely different story (in fact, no, we’ll tell you everything now).

Thus, the first pit bikes could boast a power of only five horsepower.

Over the years, or to be precise, in the 50-60s of the last century, small (mini) motorcycles of the Honda brand . Such motorcycles were primarily distinguished by: a horizontally located cylinder and a 4-stroke engine. By the way, only Yamaha has moved away from this in its motorcycles.

Today, a pit bike with an engine capacity of 125 (or more) cm3 can be called quite powerful.

We will not agitate you and try to push advertising, but still, we can sincerely say that Avantis brand pit bikes are a good ratio of price, power, and quality. Call us - we will tell you everything, show you and free test-draw.

Traffic rules and pit bike

When meeting with traffic police inspectors, you will definitely have problems! Therefore, a teenager must know that he must be held responsible for every action. Understanding this makes a man out of a boy !

The current economic situation has forced manufacturers to put up some assembled models for sale. Naturally, there were people who tried to use this transport on public roads, which created certain problems for all other road users (including bicycles and scooters).

First, Japan, and then other countries, introduced bans on the use of such devices on the roads. So most of the models moved into the children's “toys” sector.

The development of electric vehicles, of course, has pushed them aside, but thanks to engineers from the Middle Kingdom, every parent has a choice - to buy an electric car or a gasoline pit bike for their child. The choice of the child in this case is most often clear - after all, the pit bike is so similar to the real one...

Pitbike and children

A pit bike for a child can develop into a more serious hobby - motocross. And this is a very expensive pleasure.

Remember that this is not a toy, without exaggeration it can be called a full-fledged motorcycle transport, it just does not have “extra” parts for motocross and light enduro, such as turn signals, rear-view mirrors, headlights. It is with these PIT bikes that a child’s journey into the world of motocross, or simply the magical, but so dangerous world of motorcycles begins.

Then it’s up to the parents to decide whether to look for something they like (a hobby) for the child, or to make the child, out of laziness, start drinking beer in the hallways, and then, as my mother told me as a child: “You’ll go rob the kiosks.”

What are the advantages?

Avantis pit bikes (yes, to be frank - not only Avantis) can serve you both for fun “rides” with friends and for serious competitions. Yes, yes - on such pit bikes you will be able to participate in various competitions and provide significant competition to the most expensive motorcycle brands.

Pit bikes are not heavy and compact. So, the average weight of a pit bike fluctuates around 70 kg and its dimensions will allow it to be transported by car (not in all cars, but still). The average pit bike can support a weight of approximately 130 kilograms.

In general, it is believed that someone who rides a pit bike should weigh less than 100 kg. So, if you are a “boar” weighing 100+ kilograms, look towards other motorcycles (we will look at everything on our blog).

Both adults and children can ride pit bikes . Moreover, it is believed that a pit bike is ideal for a teenager 9-15 years old. Which, in turn, makes it a good gift, and in many cases a way to distract a child from constantly sitting at the computer, drugs and... well, you understand everything yourself...

By the way, there are models of pit bikes (minimoto) for younger children. That is, this motorcycle is quite universal.

Oil

The oil in a pit bike engine needs to be changed periodically. The basics of this simple procedure are given below.

How much to pour

The volume of the oil system for most models is 800-1000 ml.

How often to change

The frequency of replacement is indicated by manufacturers. However, many owners change the oil earlier: since little oil is needed, it can be changed more often, especially if you drive in the city.

Is car oil suitable?

Theoretically, yes, but in extreme cases, and only if your pit bike does not have a motor with a wet clutch. If your clutch is wet (in an oil bath), car oil can “kill” it because it does not contain special additives.

Therefore, the advice is this: it is better to use specialized motor oils.

What viscosity is needed

We focus on the outside temperatures at which you will be riding. The hotter it is, the more viscous the oil should be. Formulations that are too liquid may simply boil away due to overheating. And vice versa: the colder it is, the less viscous the oil is required.

Let's clarify with numbers:

  • for temperatures above +30 degrees: 20W/50 or 15W/50 brands are suitable;
  • from +10 to +30 degrees: 10W/40;
  • from -10 to +10 degrees: 5W/30 or 5W/40 (in general, they are also suitable for severe frosts, down to -15...-20 degrees, but it’s better not to risk it and use even less viscous compounds);
  • from -10 degrees and below: special snowmobile oils 0W/40.

What type of oil is best to use

It is better to pour more viscous mineral oils into older engines. In other cases, we look at what the manufacturer advises. Most often, he “prescribes” semi-synthetics.

Is Chinese technology poor quality?

Indeed, the Avantis is made in China. But where did this stereotype come from, that “if it’s Chinese, it’s junk”? The price range of Avantis motorcycles is much lower than that of their Austrian, Swedish and Japanese counterparts, and the quality is far from worse.

Moreover, many American motorcycle manufacturers have been assembling their equipment in China for many years. Yes, and the Avantis is also no stranger to this market for a long time and has gained a reputation as a reliable pit bike with an acceptable price for the Republic of Belarus.

Features of choice

When choosing a motorcycle, you need to focus on the features of a specific manufacturer, as well as on the engine power:

  1. 50–110 cc see. Bikes with such engines are the best option for quiet walks. They usually reach speeds no higher than 60 km/h.
  2. 125–140 cc cm. This engine is optimal for a beginner motocrosser.
  3. 160–190 cc see. An excellent option for experienced athletes. Develop high speed off-road.

Pitbikes only for sport, entertainment and drive?

The point is that this is possible. Or it is possible, as in many European cities, where pit bikes are quite common as public transport. So, it is especially popular among couriers, postmen, and also for those who have to constantly travel and especially get stuck in traffic jams. Can you imagine these huge city traffic jams? And on a compact pit bike you will forget about them once and for all. In addition, a pit bike will go virtually anywhere. Even where a bicycle cannot pass. The only thing worth mentioning is that in Belarus there are a number of restrictions (driving in the city, on roads, etc.), which we will consider separately in the corresponding material.

Main advantages of the technology

One of the main advantages is the cost. If you want some drive, but don’t want to spend money on a full-fledged and expensive motorcycle, the best option is to buy a pit bike inexpensively in Moscow. Despite its compact size, it will bring a lot of positive emotions. The equipment can be used for outdoor activities, trips to nature, as well as motorsports.

But the portability of mini motorcycles doesn't mean they're meant for teenagers or children. On average, the load capacity of the unit is in the range of 100–130 kg. Thanks to the comfortable seating position, the driver can be of almost any height and weight. This type of transport allows you to easily maneuver both over rough terrain and through narrow streets and city traffic jams. In addition, such motorcycle equipment is perfect for professional bikers who want to learn various tricks and feints.

Do you need a license for a pit bike?

No. A pit bike in the Republic of Belarus and Russia is considered sports equipment, which means that you do not need a driver's license or state license plate to ride it. However, this is if your pit bike has an engine power of less than 50 cubic cm. If it is more, and this is actually the entire line of Avantis pit bikes, you need a category A license, which is not so difficult to obtain.

Also, there are a number of specific restrictions on places to drive, obtain a license, etc. Very soon we will prepare extended material on this topic, where experts will answer all the tricky questions about riding pit bikes and endurance bikes.

Main characteristics and differences

Pit bikes differ from classic motorcycles in the following parameters:

  • small size and minimal weight, making it easy to transport equipment in a car;
  • quite powerful engine with a volume of 50–150 cc. cm;
  • efficient engine cooling using an air-oil system;
  • extended base;
  • several types of transmissions.

In general, in terms of characteristics, pit bikes are practically in no way inferior to their older “brothers”. The single-cylinder engine is mounted on a durable tubular frame. The power unit is usually four-stroke, with a horizontal cylinder placement. The volume of the latter varies in the range of 50–80 cubic meters. cm.

Thanks to the extended wheelbase, this motorcycle is designed for adult drivers. The gearbox can be mechanical, automatic or semi-automatic, which allows both a beginner and a child to operate the equipment. Such vehicles are characterized by durability and reliability, while they are easy to operate and unpretentious in maintenance. Buying a pit bike in Moscow means becoming the owner of a practical, powerful and versatile device.

What competitions and types of pit bike riding are there?

Supermoto - riding on a flat surface, most often on asphalt. The most commonly used wheels are 12 inches in diameter.

Motocross is usually jumping hills and tracks for jumping on a pit bike. The most commonly used wheels are 12/14-inch in diameter and naturally with off-road tires.

Stunt – tricks on a flat surface (most often asphalt).

Park – skating in specialized parks, including skate parks, where various tricks are performed. In this kind of riding, they try to lighten the weight of the pit bike as much as possible.

The street is more like just riding through the streets on a pit bike without any restrictions. Natural urban elements in the form of curbs, railings, and stairs are used as obstacles. It is worth noting that this is prohibited in Belarus.

Freestyle moto – jumping on pit bikes, performing various figures in the air.

8. MOTOLAND CRF-125 NEW 4T, from 61,000 RUR

MOTOLAND CRF-125 NEW 4T is one of the newest pit bikes in the Motoland line. It is ideal for off-road and dirt roads. It is specially designed for mini motocross and high jumps. But it is also suitable for absolute beginners, as it does not require special care and is very easy to operate.

This model is very similar to the BSE РН10-125e, but there are very small differences, for example, the seat is not so easy to remove, the flute is not worth it.

Racer PE-125, from RUB 56,500

Racer PE-125 is a rather original model, because unlike other manufacturers, it is assembled from parts from third-party brands, and not produced independently. Here, the Japanese carburetor and suspension, together with Taiwanese wheels, had a positive effect on the quality of the equipment. This is one of the most reliable pit bikes.

Some complain that the chain stretches and the bolts from the sprocket come loose, but such little things do not prevent this pit bike from being recognized all over the world.

The best sport and hobby in the world

In any technical sport, be it motorsport, road racing, motocross or enduro, champions become people who start playing their sport in early childhood. But unfortunately, in order to achieve real heights on the world stage, for example, in motocross, it is not enough to have talent or start training from the age of 4-5 years.

In addition to the fact that motorsports is very interesting and exciting, it is also very useful from a physical point of view. People who are far from technical sports often think that auto or motorsports are easy. Spin the steering wheel and admire the scenery. But no, I assure you, this is not true at all. The same motocross or enduro, very energy-intensive sports.

Professional racers are real athletes. In addition to developed muscles, high endurance is also required. But most importantly, it is a hobby and a sport rolled into one. I am sure it will captivate both children and adults. It's really interesting! And by the way, motorcycling is not only for boys and men, but also for girls and girls too.

BSE MX 125 14/17, from RUB 59,000

BSE MX 125 14/17 is a relatively new model. However, they have already managed to appreciate it, but did not have time to find many shortcomings.

So, the advantages of this pit bike include an upside-down fork, hydraulic brakes and a yoke.

Among the minuses, they sometimes talk about the small tank, but the pit bike is not designed for long hauls. This is just an example of a real “beginner” pit bike, since it has everything you need and nothing extra.
