How to choose a scooter

When choosing scooters, one of the basic criteria for a potential owner is maximum speed. Many people need to quickly get to their destination, so selecting equipment based on acceleration dynamics and maximum travel speed is important. Below we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the three fastest scooters, the engine of which has a volume of 50 cubic centimeters.

HONDA DIO AF68

Honda is rightfully considered one of the most successful manufacturers of two-wheeled motorized vehicles. The cost of its products is usually an order of magnitude higher than in the case of Chinese alternatives. On the other hand, the owner will receive a vehicle built on a wear-resistant engine that can guarantee rapid acceleration to maximum speed. Practice shows that technical breakdowns occur only through the fault of the owner. The DIO AF68 is built on a durable frame that ensures structural integrity even after being involved in a traffic accident. The increased level of safety is enhanced by the maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour. You can squeeze more out of the engine, but the standard electronics will not allow you to do this. This reserve is quite enough for comfortable and safe movement along the city streets.

The design of the scooter was not developed with the aim of obtaining an aggressive appearance. But it fades into the background, since fuel consumption is only 1250 milliliters (1.25 liters) per hundred. With a full tank, you can travel up to 370 kilometers. This supply is quite enough for a trip to the neighboring region. For full movement, an injection-type power unit is installed, the power of which is 4.9 horsepower. To maintain normal temperatures, the Japanese brand installs a forced cooling system.

Advantages:

  • easy availability of spare parts;
  • reliable frame design;
  • durable suspension;
  • minimal chance of encountering an accidental breakdown;
  • the presence of an electronic fuel injection system;
  • minimum fuel consumption.

Electric scooter Zapp i300

The ranking of the fastest electric scooters is topped by the UK model Zapp i300. This beauty is not a maxi-scooter and is considered the fastest electric moped. It is equipped with a high-power electric motor of 14,000 W or 18.7 hp, while most electric scooters have motors of 2000-3000 W.

But electronics limit the record holder’s speed to 96 km/h. But the torque of the Zapp i300 electric scooter is 587 Nm and allows it to accelerate from 0 to 48 km/h in 2.35 s, and from 0 to 72 km/h in 4.1 s. This model has a standard range of 60 km on a single charge. Estimated price – from 6,300 €.

Stels Skif 50

The domestic company Stels is known in the country largely for the production of bicycles. However, the company also successfully produces scooters. An example of one of the most successful models is the Skif 50. The reason for this is the good price-quality ratio.

To reduce the cost, budget paint is used, which begins to crack after several years of use. Build quality may also be an issue. For example, the rear brake light has a problematic mount, which will most likely have to be replaced immediately after making the purchase. There are no serious complaints about the remaining criteria. The scooter moves thanks to the use of a two-stroke power unit, on which a forced air cooling system is installed. Electronic ignition does not cause problems, nor does the CVT transmission. The front wheel uses a hydraulic disc brake. There is a drum installed in the rear. The model can accelerate to 65 kilometers per hour. The package often includes a luggage compartment, alarm, aluminum wheels and a cover (depending on store offers). All products are covered by an official manufacturer's warranty for a period of two years.

Advantages:

  • two-year warranty;
  • the ability to ride with a passenger;
  • fairly quiet operation of the power unit;
  • the most affordable price;
  • the presence of a spacious trunk;
  • several color options;
  • possibility of starting the engine from the key fob.

Electric scooter City Coco 3000 W

The City Coco 3000W model is a flagship in its class. The 3000 W motor allows the rider to reach speeds of up to 75 km/h and confidently move in city traffic. This electric scooter handles hills with confidence and is suitable for use in mountainous or hilly areas. The suspension with rear shock absorbers smooths out road unevenness and provides ride comfort.

Characteristic features of the model:

  • stylish design;
  • 2-seater seat;
  • speed up to 75 km/h;
  • Li-ion battery 60 V, 20 Ah, provides a range of 50–60 km on 1 charge;
  • 13-inch wheels;
  • weight – 73 kg;
  • load capacity – 180 kg.

Irbis LX 50

Perhaps the fastest scooter in the ranking is the LX 50 model from Irbis. The model has a stylish, attractive appearance, somewhat reminiscent of a sporty one. The front features large headlights that can effectively illuminate the road in the evening. The maximum speed is no more than 90 kilometers per hour. The seat has space for a passenger. However, under the influence of additional load, it will not be possible to squeeze the maximum out of the motor.

Twelve-inch tires with off-road tread are installed as standard. Theoretically, this improves the quality of travel on country roads. The vehicle is propelled by a two-stroke engine with a carburetor. Its power is 4.8 horsepower. Another advantage of the model is the presence of a high-strength suspension. The engine can be started remotely. There is a tachometer on the dashboard. Additional features also include the presence of an alarm system, aluminum alloy wheels and hydraulic front brakes. The fork has a telescopic design.

Engine capacity no more than 450 cc

CFMOTO 250 JETMAX

It does not have a very powerful engine, so it will not be possible to reach too high a speed, but for urban conditions this product is simply perfect. The unit is designed to satisfy the needs of the average user who needs to get from one point to another with minimal time. Comfort and reliability are top notch, no matter what speed the driver is driving. In terms of appearance, the scooter has some similarities with a car - it has fairly large main headlights with an oblong shape. In the front center there is an imitation radiator grille. The driver's panel is liquid crystal, it displays the speedometer readings, the amount of fuel remaining in the tank, and provides an indication of the oil pressure in the system.

In the basic configuration, you can also find an audio system reliably protected from moisture, which is equipped with four speakers and an MP3 player, and there is a USB connector located directly under the steering wheel, in the glove compartment. Your hands are placed on the steering wheel with maximum comfort, so even a long trip will not be tiring. The lower footrest allows you to position your legs in any way - you can straighten them or, on the contrary, keep them bent. The scooter is equipped with a four-stroke engine with a volume of 250 cc, an injection-type fuel supply system, and a liquid engine cooling system. The maximum power that the scooter can develop reaches 22.5 horsepower, the highest speed is 130 km/h, and the fuel tank capacity is 12.5 liters.

Advantages:

  • Quite adequate cost of the model;
  • Develops high speed;
  • Very comfortable ride;
  • Attractive appearance;
  • Spacious glove compartment.

Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300 Sport LT E4

Quite an interesting model made in Italy. Differs in small overall dimensions. The engine capacity is 300 cc - as users note, this parameter is optimal for the conditions of the city and the nearest suburbs. The maximum power that this scooter can develop is 22 horsepower, which allows the device to accelerate to a speed of 120 km/h. The main point that distinguishes this unit from other models included in our rating is the presence of two wheels in the front. At the same time, the developers turned out the design to be not only unique, but also very maneuverable. The safety of the unit is at the highest level. The front suspension is based on a frame made in the shape of a parallelogram. It is made of high-quality aluminum alloy; on the rear side you can find two shock absorbers that are pre-adjustable.

The chassis here is also quite interesting - with their help you can enter turns, deviating from the vertical axis by about 40 degrees. The basis of the chassis is a reinforced frame made of steel pipes. The wheels are aluminum, the brake discs are larger, the brakes are activated when you press the appropriate pedal. The engine consumes little fuel and is equipped with a CVT transmission. The scooter has enlarged head optics, the windshield is adjustable, and a lot of data is displayed on the digital display.

Advantages:

  • Original design;
  • Ergonomics are carefully thought out, so you can easily travel long distances;
  • Excellent security;
  • Accelerates to high speeds;
  • Reliability - does not require frequent repairs.

Flaws:

  • Decent weight of the unit.

INNOCEMTI Radium 300i

An attractive and interesting model from a world-famous Italian company. The company has been producing similar products for many years. During the design process of this unit, engineers paid special attention to its attractive appearance, ergonomics of control and landing, maneuverability and wind protection. The scooter has 16-inch wheels - not every passenger car is equipped with wheels of this diameter. The windshield is shaped in such a way that it easily cuts off air flow from the driver, so it is permissible to use a helmet with 70% overlap, in other words, it is not at all necessary to provide chin protection. On the front side there are two fairly large headlights: the first is intended for low beam lighting, the second for high beam lighting. At the same time, the spot of light is not too large, so at a significant speed it may not be enough.

The engine capacity is 300 cc, which provides a thrust of 27 Nm. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes very little time. The seat is slightly inclined towards the steering wheel, is characterized by an average level of rigidity, and has good orthopedic qualities - the lower back will not get tired even during a long trip. The glove compartment is not very spacious, but everything you need on the road fits there with ease.

Advantages:

  • The ergonomics of the windshield are well thought out;
  • Easily accelerates to 100 km/h;
  • Optimal engine volume;
  • Anatomical seat with a slight slope towards the steering wheel.

Flaws:

  • The turn signal button is located directly under the horn, so pressing it is not very convenient.

Sym Maxsym 400i

Universal two-wheeled products that are perfect for both short trips within the city and far beyond its borders. The seat here is double, each part is equipped with a passenger backrest. It will support the lower back in the correct position and prevent it from getting tired during many hours of driving. At the same time, the seat itself is two-level - it turns out that the passenger will be slightly higher than the driver. The front side of the product is equipped with fairly large headlights; the side lights are made using LED filaments. All this looks as aesthetically pleasing as possible, a bit like motorcycles from the Japanese company Yamaha. The steering wheel has a plastic cover that does not slip at all in your hands, and the dashboard is illuminated with a soft blue glow at night. Despite the fact that the product is quite large, it is quite easy to operate.

The scooter's center of gravity is low, so it can corner optimally. Only the central stand acts as a tilt limiter. When making a sharp turn, you can clearly feel that the developers have made the rear part much heavier than the front. The braking system of the scooter is simply excellent - both front and rear brakes work well, and the model is equipped with an ABS system. The engine is equipped with only one cylinder, allowing the unit to accelerate to 140 km/h or up to 160 km/h if the driver is driving without a passenger. The wind deflector functions optimally, but you won’t be able to adjust it to your height.

Advantages:

  • It behaves ideally both in city traffic and on the highway;
  • Accelerates quickly;
  • Reliable braking system;
  • High power of the unit;
  • Original seat shape.

Flaws:

  • You won’t be able to adjust the wind protection and adjust it to your own height.

Honda PCX-150

This model went on general sale back in 2012, but it still continues to be quite popular among motorcycle enthusiasts around the world. First of all, users prefer this scooter due to its original design and interesting internal layout, which is not similar to any modern unit. The front headlight looks quite massive, shines brightly and over quite a decent distance, so you can ride this scooter at night at a fairly high speed. The windshield is shortened and tinted. The steering wheel here is made of beautiful chrome-plated steel and is open. The mirrors are narrow, but the visibility in them is still very good. The instrument panel is made on a liquid crystal basis, has an anti-reflective coating and a high level of information content. The overall dimensions of the product are 1915x740x1090 mm, which ensures excellent maneuverability of the product.

The engine capacity here is 150 cc - enough for the city. The scooter is a two-seater. The seat is quite large, divided into two parts; the driver's seat has a not very high backrest. No inconvenience was found during long trips. There is enough legroom. The trunk profile is long, but not very deep - one helmet and a protective jacket can fit. The scooter is equipped with wheels with a radius of 14 inches, so steering is quite easy.

Advantages:

  • Low weight;
  • Low fuel consumption;
  • Very bright headlights;
  • Wind protection is well thought out;
  • There is a factory cigarette lighter;
  • Comfortable seat.

Flaws:

  • The tank capacity is only 8 liters.

Dust in the eyes. Test drive the M1NSK Vesna scooter for $1,300

During a two-week test drive of the Belarusian-Chinese (mostly Chinese) M1NSK Vesna scooter, we were surprised by two things: its agility and breakdowns. It’s even hard to say which is more surprising! But so you understand right away: the M1NSK Vesna V125 is not even a scooter - it’s a style. And beauty...

“You're behind the wheel, tonight,” Depeche Mode plays in the headphones. And you are rushing to Osmolovka through sunset-lit Minsk on a retro scooter, cutting through the flow of cars with checkers...

You can see what it looks like in our video. For those who are used to receiving information by text, continue reading.

This fashionable scooter is very suitable for girls, not just for a hipster with a beard. Moreover, first you need to get the “AM” category in the case of the 50 cc version or the “A1” category for the 125 cc version. This is relatively easy to do - and it will look like in a Depeche Mode video...

First of all, it's beautiful. The video contains the whole philosophy of retro scooters: beauty and style are the most important thing, and everything else is not so important.

Pay attention to this inscription. One guy at a motorcycle plant rummaged through the entire archive to find the original emblem of the 1956 Minsk motorcycle. It was sent electronically to China and cast there in pseudo-chrome. Yes, yes, the emblem, like this entire scooter, is made in China. You can start “trolling” the motorcycle plant in the comments. But the assembly of the next batch may already be Belarusian. The main thing is that the Minsk motorcycle brand has been preserved, and this is important. Do you understand?

Minsk, together with the M1NSK Vesna V125 scooter, turns into Rome during the motorcycle season. It is not at all necessary to go to Italy - with Vesna Rome will be in Minsk every day. In the morning I put on a suit and went to work. I threw the helmet under the seat and went to the office. In the evening - to Oktyabrskaya, Zybitskaya, Osmolovka, or just take a ride around the center. The main thing is not to fall, because a business suit does not protect well from injuries at a speed of 80 km/h.

Secondly, it is moving with a smile. Because this is not a scooter - it’s a positive thing on wheels. When meeting, retro scooter owners always smile at each other. Passers-by smile at you. You smile at them. Everyone is happy.

As you already understand, the name Vesna was given to it for a reason. From 1946 to this day, Italians have been producing the iconic Vespa scooter. In Europe you can meet him at every step; countless films have been made with him. And there are more and more retro scooters in Minsk.

Thirdly, it is fast, convenient and almost free. From a traffic light, the 125 cc version we have on test moves ahead of the cars. True, if there are “racers” nearby in cars with powerful engines who want to compete, Vesna has no chance. But still, for its volume, it is playful, and even untested! There is a variator here, you don’t need to change gears, which is also convenient. Smooth, quiet, comfortable acceleration.

It is very, very narrow - you can drive through any traffic jam. Official fuel consumption is about 3 liters. While the run-in has not been measured, perhaps it will be even less. At the gas station you pay with coins.

"Maximum speed"? It’s not clear yet, because the scooter has not been fully tested. Officially 80 km/h, but we managed to accelerate to 88 km/h. To our surprise, there are no vibrations. It is not suitable for long trips, the transport is more urban, but on the route Minsk - Ratomka it performs well every day.

Well, how good?.. The house is about 700 meters away on a dirt road, and the wheels are small. After a normal motorcycle with big wheels, you drive along it very slowly. Interestingly, at first the scooter seemed very stiff, then for some reason it became softer. At least the suspension doesn’t break: there’s a normal fork in the front, two shock absorbers in the back. A guy who rides cheap 50cc scooters rode by and said the suspension was pretty good. But it's still a bit harsh...

But it steers very well, laying it down or driving around hatches is a pleasure! After my personal M1NSK C4 250 (this motorcycle has very powerful brakes, you can lock them with your little finger), the brakes did not seem to be the most effective: there are no rear drums at all, and the front disc ones are even more or less so. Over time I got used to it, the brakes were broken in, you can brake more or less normally, but for emergency braking you need to apply force to the levers. In general, mediocre brakes. And they still squeak!

The scooter is certainly beautiful. But it breaks! After our test, the factory workers are simply obliged to fix everything. Such a beautiful thing - and it breaks. How so?

The first thing to break was the ignition switch hatch. As planned, it should perform an anti-theft function. But I picked up the scooter at the factory, came home, closed the hatch - and it broke down. The ignition lock cylinder turned out to be closed, the scooter could not be started - I had to break out the hatch with a screwdriver...

A week after the test, the scooter sat for a couple of nights, started up in the morning, stalled, and then stopped starting.

It feels like something happened to the fuel supply. To figure it out, you need to get to the bowels of the scooter. And this is where the problem arises. You need to unscrew the four bolts securing the seat and trunk. There are keys in the trunk, but among them there is no “10” key to unscrew the necessary bolts! Forgot to put the most important key!

They unscrewed it and it turned out that the fuel pump had become airy and stopped pumping gasoline. The tank here is located under the bottom, the fuel pump pumps gasoline into the carburetor. I had to spit gasoline, pumping it through the tube with my mouth. There is no pleasure in this. After that, the scooter started working, but a couple of times after parking the fuel pump also malfunctioned, I had to put the scooter on the center stand and properly unscrew the throttle.

Then the bolt securing the air filter housing fell off - I had to pick up another one in the garage.

Well, for dessert: something is tapping in the bowels of the scooter, the front brake is creaking, and after riding on a dirt road, something is creaking in the back.

So many problems - in just two weeks of a test drive and a 400 km mileage. And it creaks, it’s infectious...

In general, the factory needs to do a little work on the scooter, because otherwise it’s very cool. A fashionable, stylish thing that also brings you good luck! Fast, practical and very economical. If only it weren’t for these minor problems, squeaks and a weak rear drum brake! We hope the motorcycle plant will fix everything. And he won’t forget to put the “10” key in the trunk. So, just in case...

Other details about the M1NSK Vesna V125 are in the pictures.

Notes in the margins

The 50cc version of the scooter costs about $1200, the 125cc version costs $1300. Expensive? Original Vespa 2014 in our ad database it is valued at $4700. True, there are 280 “cubes”, and this is a completely different level of technology, nevertheless, you have to pay for the style. There is also a 50cc Vespa 2011 on sale. worth $2300. But new Vespas are not sold here... If they were, they would not be sold here, because they are very expensive.

There's a USB port hidden in the glove compartment so you can charge your phone on the go!

Above it is a hook for a bag from the store. Very convenient when the trunk is already occupied with things.

Publication from Yuri Gladchuk (@hladchuk_yura) June 12, 2021 at 11:58 PDT

It’s better not to drive the 125 cc version in this form - it’s purely for a photo shoot. You need at least a minimum set of equipment.

The presence of an emergency light is also a sign of civilization... Not all motorcycles have it. You can apologize to motorists for your pirouettes in traffic. The scooter is daring, sharp, youthful, therefore - understand and forgive...

The turn signal switch is inconvenient: you need to reach for it, but the force is not even close to being adjusted. Some kind of Chinese switch...

The trunk is not the most spacious, but it is there; an open helmet can easily fit in it. But the Shark integral no longer fits.

The six-liter tank is located under the bottom.

The scooter manufacturer is Taizhou Zhongshen Motorcycle.

The side step does not securely fix the Vesna when parking. The scooter falls over if you put it on the side stand and the road goes down a little. But I survived one such fall with virtually no consequences - a small scratch and a broken tip of the rear brake lever, no cracks. You need to make sure that the footrest is positioned a little further forward.

But there is a central stand - it’s more reliable, but it’s not so convenient to set it up.

There are retractable footrests for the rear passenger.

The CVT is very convenient in the city. I “unscrewed” the handle and drove off.

At first it was difficult to get used to the “stool” seat behind the wheel, but then I started moving my legs a little forward on special stands - it became much more comfortable.

The tires are Chinese, called Duro. There are no complaints about them. Alloy wheels are very elegant.

The 1P52QMI-C engine is a standard Chinese one for a scooter: air-cooled, four strokes, horizontal cylinder arrangement. The choke in the carburetor is automatic, start it and go, which is also convenient.

The dashboard has a fuel level indicator; you don’t need to look into the tank - you can’t see anything there anyway.

The mirrors are beautiful pseudo-chrome. But they are poorly regulated and jam.

The electric starter is duplicated by a kick starter. But the battery is not bad for such a motor: when problems arose with the fuel pump, I turned the engine with the starter for a very, very long time, but the battery was never discharged.

The rear light and turn signals are LED.

The front light is a regular halogen. The low beam shines under the wheels - and nothing is visible. But the long-range one hits well.
