What documents do you need to carry with you on a moped up to 50cc?

Running in the Alpha RX 110 moped
Hi all! In this article I want to touch on the following topic - the running-in of the new Alfa moped.

After purchasing a new moped, the owner is faced with the question of how to properly break in the engine. This procedure must be carried out on absolutely any equipment, since it significantly extends the life of both the engine itself and the moped as a whole. Four-stroke engines have a number of features that should be taken into account during break-in.

The most common question for the owner of a new Alpha is: how many kilometers must a four-stroke moped travel for its engine to get used to and be ready for long-term use?

Most manufacturers indicate a minimum value of 500 km, but to achieve the maximum effect from break-in, you should drive at least 1000 km in a gentle mode. Only after the odometer shows the coveted number can you safely turn the throttle to full.

During break-in, not only the piston group is ground in, but also the bearings and gears. As a result of controlled wear, the necessary technical clearances appear, which at the moment of maximum load and overheating allow the motor to function normally.

Reasons for withdrawal

There are usually several reasons why an owner has to remove a wheel:

  • after a long ride, balancing is required;
  • the disc is cracked or bent;
  • drum brakes have stopped working properly (worn out pads, problems with the brake system, etc.);
  • complete replacement of spare parts;
  • restoring a tire after a puncture or replacing it completely;
  • scheduled maintenance;
  • failure of internal bearings;
  • removing the gearbox;
  • The bushing axle is cracked.

Maintenance of the Alpha moped during the run-in period and after

Lapping involves the appearance of metallic inclusions in the oil in the form of small chips. When there is too much of it, it becomes an abrasive that can ruin the engine and completely damage it. Of course, you can go to Motozilla and buy any spare parts for an Alpha moped , but why spend money?

To avoid this, after the first 400 km you need to change the oil in the crankcase. By the way, you can also buy it, as well as many other things, on Motozilla. And when you test drive an Alpha, you don’t need to force things and increase the mileage for days. After driving for 30-40 minutes, give the engine time to cool down. A quarter of an hour is enough for this. If you follow these recommendations, your moped will last a long time.

Sequence and features of work execution

Before removing the rear wheel from a moped or scooter, you need to have all the necessary tools. If you have a special case with keys in your garage or home, you can immediately start doing the work. The procedure is not complicated, somewhat reminiscent of a similar operation with a car. The only difference is that there are a large number of other structural parts inside that prevent quick disassembly. Although the part itself is fixed with only one nut.

Work should begin by placing the vehicle on the step. It is important to choose a flat, stable surface so that when dismantling the scooter does not fall on its side. If you have performed this procedure a long time ago, we strongly recommend treating all threaded connections with WD-40 spray. If there is rust, you will have trouble unscrewing it. Therefore, the use of this spray will greatly facilitate the procedure, since all the bolts and nuts will be easy to unscrew. To prevent the wheel from spinning when dismantling, press the brake pads by securing the brake handle with a regular belt, as in the photo:

The design of most models requires preliminary removal of the muffler along with the exhaust pipe. If you do not do this and immediately unscrew the nut securing the wheel, it will not come off, since the muffler will rub against the tire. To remove the clamps, you need to loosen the fixing bolts and then unscrew the two nuts located under the power unit. Having done this, carefully remove the muffler and leave it in a convenient place.

For example, in some cases, Chinese scooters do not require preliminary removal of the exhaust pipe (for example, on the Viper 150 model with a drum brake system). Much depends not only on the design, but also on the width of the tire/air pressure inside it. On the other hand, having removed the exhaust after all, removing the wheel rim will be significantly simplified.

Note! A paronite gasket is installed between the exhaust elbow and the cylinder. Don't forget to put it aside so you can put it back in its original place later. Otherwise, the exhaust sound will deteriorate. In addition, the absence of a paronite gasket increases the risk of getting a leg burn from exhaust gases that have a high temperature.

After removal, unscrew the bolt holding the shock absorber at the bottom. Move the stand to the side. Some scooter models have only one shock absorber, located where the CVT is. There is no need to unscrew the latter (only if you plan to further remove it and overhaul/replace it). If your scooter has a rear disc brake, be sure to unscrew the caliper and move it to the side.

Useful videos on removing the rear wheel from various scooters

You can learn how to remove the rear wheel from a Yamaha Majesty 125 scooter from the video below:

How to remove the rear wheel on a Vespa scooter:

Sooner or later, every moped driver wonders how to remove a wheel on a scooter . There can be many reasons for removing a wheel, the most common of them (there are interesting articles on the links, I recommend reading):

  • If you have a flat tire on your scooter
  • The brake mechanism requires servicing (read the article Servicing the drum brake on a scooter)
  • Sometimes to adjust drum brakes
  • Disassembling the gearbox
  • Replacing brake pads
  • To balance a scooter wheel (I recommend reading Balancing a scooter wheel with your own hands)
  • And of course to change the wheel

Removing the rear wheel on a moped is not as difficult as it seems, but, frankly speaking, it is not easy either. This process is very different from a similar operation with a car due to the fact that many other structural elements of the scooter, such as the exhaust pipe, shock absorber and other parts, prevent the removal of the rear ramp with the disc in the scooter. Although the scooter wheel itself is fixed with only one nut.

Preparing to remove the rear wheel of the scooter

dismantling and removing the rear wheel of the scooter by placing the moped on the center stand. We choose a flat surface for this. Before carrying out work, we recommend treating all threaded connections with a liquid such as WD-40 or similar.

In most cases, to remove a tire, you need to dismantle the muffler with the exhaust pipe, that is, unscrew two nuts from the bottom of the engine (photo above) and loosen the bolts that secure the muffler clamps (position 2 in the figure below).

Removing the rear wheel on a Chinese scooter in some cases (for example, on a Viper Storm 150 with a rear drum brake) does not require dismantling the exhaust pipe, but here everything is individual and even depends on the width of the wheel and tire pressure. In any case, with the exhaust removed, it will be more convenient to remove the wheel rim. By the way, do not lose the paranit gasket, which is installed between the cylinder and the exhaust pipe elbow.

Determining the optimal speed during break-in

Any technique has technical differences, and mopeds with different cubic capacity also have different maximum speeds. To determine this speed, you need to carefully study the technical data of a four-stroke moped and take 75% of the maximum speed from the data specified by the manufacturer.

For example, a 110cc moped with a 15-teeth drive sprocket has a maximum speed of 85 km/h. This means the maximum break-in speed in fourth gear will be 63 km/h.

It is also worth remembering that the throttle should not be turned more than 2/3 of the maximum value. Many novice owners of mopeds and scooters think that they need to dilute gasoline with oil, but with four-stroke engines, this is not necessary. Once in the combustion chamber, the oil does not burn and is deposited on its walls.

How to unscrew the rear wheel on a scooter

If you don’t have an impact wrench, then use a wooden block to secure the wheel from turning (it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to hold the disc by pressing the brake lever). When installing the block, I recommend placing it on the bracket, and not on the variator cover, since it is not made of very durable material.

Now we take a wrench, a suitable head and try to unscrew the nut securing the rear wheel of the scooter. We don't lose any details.

Next, unscrew the bolts securing the mudguard to the bracket (item 3) and the bolts securing the bracket to the power unit block.

We completely remove the bracket from the gearbox axis and do not lose the spacer sleeve.

Remove the rear wheel from the axle. If something is still holding the wheel, slightly unscrew the adjusting nut on the drum brake cable, since the pads may have pinched the disc. How to do this is described in detail in the article Adjusting drum brakes on a scooter.

Another spacer of larger width is installed inside the wheel.

That's all. Now you know how to remove the rear wheel on a scooter and you can do it yourself.

Installing the rear wheel on the scooter is done in the reverse order.

Recently, many new automobile products have appeared on the market. A truly revolutionary solution in recent years has been the one-wheeled scooter, which combines compactness, comfort and affordable cost.

Along with electric and solar cars, this type of transport is gradually taking its rightful place in the hearts of car enthusiasts and in their garages. The price of this motorcycle know-how, the engine of which is particularly powerful, is affordable for anyone who is interested in purchasing stylish and ergonomic transport.

Alpha moped oil

First of all, Alpha owners advise using non-mineral oil, with a viscosity of 10w40 and not cheaper than 10 dollars, since anything cheaper is not considered (well, you get the idea).

Special oil that is created for four-stroke engines, use without hesitation.

You can also use car oil, this is the same liquid for four-stroke engines. You just need to choose the right viscosity, the manufacturers advise - SAE 10W/40 and the quality class recommended by API is not lower than SF.

For operating a vehicle in the warm season, a suitable viscosity is SAE 30, SAE 40 or SAE 50, and for the off-season - a viscosity of SAE 15W/40, SAE 5W/40.

If you follow the above rules for proper break-in and fill only with good and suitable oil, the alpha moped will serve you for many years.

Types of wheels

Scooter wheels are not only rubber, but also tires and rims. This also includes:

Scooter wheels, the price of which varies depending on the model and year of manufacture, are divided into:

The most common are alloy wheels. Their price is about two thousand rubles. The main material is aluminum.

Scooter wheel. Cast drive

Alloy wheels are installed on scooters made in Europe or China.

The price of a stamped disc is slightly lower. This model is less resistant to temperature changes and corrosion.

Scooter wheel. Stamped disc

An excellent choice for a large wheel is a spoked wheel. Its price is also low. In addition to a number of advantages, they also have a significant drawback: in case of deformation, it will be quite difficult to correct the problem.

Motor wheel

The motor wheel is a relatively new product on the domestic market. Having appeared a little later than the electric motor, the wheel motor has a number of enviable advantages:

  • the design of the motor device is characterized by high efficiency;
  • the motor wheel is quite easy to repair;
  • the wheel motor has a high specific power;
  • also the motor wheel has economical space;
  • The price of the wheel motor is relatively low.

The current period can be called the second birthday of the wheel motor. More modernized motor models can be used for:

  • electric bicycle;
  • electric car;
  • electric scooter.

The motor device intended for electric motorcycle equipment is a vertical brushless synchronous electric motor equipped with direct current. An armature is used as an axis, mounted on the engine housing using two bearings. The strator of the motor model is made of ultra-strong electrical steel.

The motor device is extremely reliable and, with proper care, can last for many years. The quality of the bearings determines the working life of the motor model. The type and power of the latest motor devices varies from 100 W to 15 kW. An excellent solution would be to purchase and install this know-how on your moped. The price of a model with a power of 500 W is about 17 thousand rubles.

Replacing wheels

In order to install or remove the rear wheel of your scooter, it is not at all necessary to become a client of an expensive service. Moreover, the price there often bites quite significantly.

How to remove

Sooner or later, every motorcycle owner faces the need to remove a flat rear tire. The price of a service from a professional tire service can hit your pocket, so you can try to solve the problem yourself.

Removing the rear wheel from a scooter is somewhat more difficult: to do this, you will have to disassemble part of the equipment. If the price of the issue is too high, and the owner is not a professional, then it’s still not worth the risk.

How to install a wheel

Putting the rear wheel on a scooter will be quite simple for someone who understands the issue. Reinstall the rear wheel in reverse order, making sure that all parts are installed correctly.

Final decision

Touring enduros can be divided into two types. The former feel great in off-road conditions and cope excellently with any conditions on the road, but are less comfortable when driving on the highway. The latter, on the contrary, are comfortable, but can fail in difficult areas.

There is always some dualism in choosing such a motorcycle. As a rule, almost any route consists mainly of driving on the highway, and only some, although often the most beautiful places, will have to be driven off-road, which may turn out to be quite passable under normal weather conditions. Therefore, you should decide what is better: to endure inconvenience during the main route, but easily pass difficult places, or to drive comfortably along the highway and “sweat” through difficulties.

However, there is a third option: traveling with a large group. The optimal option is 5-6 people, including a backup driver.
