- Honda motorcycle model
The Honda Shadow 750 series of cruisers begins its history in 1983 with the introduction of the Honda NV750 Custom model, which was available in the North American and Japanese markets. In 1986, the motorcycle changed its name to Shadow 750, being updated technically and visually. The model of that time was quite heavily boosted (which is typical for all Japanese cruisers of those years), producing up to 66 hp. power. These versions are present at Japanese auctions, but due to their age, there are not many of them.
In 1997, the first version entered the market with the name Honda VT750 Shadow in the American Classic Edition (ACE) modification, which began the rapid growth of the model’s popularity. The modification featured classic American features with deep fenders, wide spoked wheels and chain drive. At the same time, an internal Japanese modification was released - the Honda Shadow 400.
In 2000, the Shadow 750 line was replenished with a new modification - the Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit. In Japan it was sold under the name Slasher, and in Europe - Black Widow. The model featured short fenders, a thin 19′ front wheel and a smaller fuel tank (13 liters instead of 14 liters in the ACE). Otherwise, the motorcycle was equipped with the same engine, chain drive and two carburetors.
In 2003, the Honda VT750C Shadow ACE modification finally left the market, giving way to the new Honda VT750C Aero. The new model received many technical changes regarding ergonomics, overall dimensions, front suspension, engine, intake system (using one carburetor instead of two) and drive (instead of a chain, the model received a cardan and changed gearbox ratios).
In 2007, the Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit (Slasher, Black Widow) modification leaves the market, giving way to the new Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit. The model visually resembles the previous modification, but is equipped with a 21′ front wheel, electronic fuel injection (since 2008, 1 carburetor in 2007), cardan drive and a 14-liter tank. The Aero modification gets an injector.
In 2009, another modification appeared - the Honda VT750C2B Phantom. In some countries it was sold under the name Black Spirit. Despite the similarity of the name with the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit, the Phantom modification is not related to it, but is a version of the Aero in black, straight handlebars and short fenders. The Aero modification includes versions with ABS.
In 2010, another modification was introduced - the Honda VT750RS Shadow. In the Japanese market it was sold as the Honda VT750S. Visually reminiscent of the classic Honda VRX400. The Shadow 750 differs from the entire line in its shortened wheelbase, increased seat height, increased ground clearance, practically the lowest curb weight (second only to the NV750 Custom), a 10-liter fuel tank and a chain drive.
In 2013, the RS modification leaves the market, and the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit receives a version with ABS (designated VT750C2S). 2015 was the last year of production of the Honda VT750C2 Shadow Spirit modification.
Currently, only the Aero and Phantom versions are present in the production line.

As you know, American choppers are the most “chopper” choppers in the world. That is, the most correct, the most stylish, the most “traditional”... There are also others - Japanese. They strayed from their pack and began to live a solitary life, like a lone wolf. Due to their overly developed sporting or tourist inclinations, they began to be classified as special “breeds” of bikes.
The newly-minted “hermits” now look with nostalgia at their ancestors and, at the same time, donors, trying to imitate them in the simplicity and sophistication of the original style. They're trying in vain. They took a different path of evolution and there is no turning back. But there are, nevertheless, modern Japanese bikes that successfully reproduce the style of a real chopper, and through the use of modern technologies improve the breed, bringing more comfort and reliability to it. There are few of them and they are born rarely. Therefore, the birth of the new Honda Shadow Spirit VT750DC can be regarded as an extraordinary event that deserves to be known to as many admirers of this style as possible.
The Shadow VT750 model has been produced by Honda for a long time, but only this year its modification, called Spirit, which translates as “Spirit,” has absorbed features from the distant past. It has smooth body lines, a low classic seat, a high handlebar and a large 21-inch front wheel. True, the rear suspension is still present, and this is quite natural, because only a few can currently ride Hard-tails. Unlike the commonly installed alloy wheels, the wheels of this “Spirit from the Past” are spoked. The difference in the diameter and width of the wheels is determined by the same canons of style. The front tire size is 90/90-21, while the rear roller is much wider, but smaller in diameter - 160/80-15. Perhaps the only thing that makes it a representative of the 21st century is the water cooling system, the radiator of which is located directly behind the front wheel, between the pipes of the duplex frame. All the other bells and whistles present on the bike are well disguised as antique. Spirit's style takes him back many decades and creates a unique charm that is now almost forgotten. Not everyone dares to ride a classic chopper now. And only those who want to stand out from the crowd, who live in a fascinating past, will love this bike with all their hearts.
Despite the seemingly small engine capacity, the Spirit 750 is quite capable of delivering a lot of joy from communicating with it. He promises to be obedient like a servant, reliable like a true friend, and powerful like 45 horses gathered together and moving the bike along the road to the intended goal. Spirit is by far the youngest in the family tree of Shadow VT750 models. Therefore, his habits are honed, and production technologies are fine-tuned to perfection. Of course, there are innovations in it, but they have also been tested on other bikes of the company. For example, the proprietary PGM-FI direct fuel injection system was first installed on a 750 cc Honda cruiser. Externally, the absence of a carburetor is completely invisible. The entire injection system is hidden behind a chrome teardrop-shaped air filter cover. The company was forced to take such a step by overly “correct” Europeans, who would not allow the bike “in their possession” if it did not meet the new Euro-3 standards. But this decision also added advantages. The engine's response to the throttle has improved, and its consumption of high-octane fuel has noticeably decreased. Last but not least, this is the merit of an economical engine with three-valve heads and two spark plugs per cylinder. This configuration eliminates misfires and ensures the most complete combustion of the fuel mixture. The V-shaped engine with a cylinder camber of 52 degrees, thanks to the injection system, has also increased its maximum torque, which is now 65 Nm at 3500 crankshaft rpm.
The water cooling system improves the temperature regime of the engine and gives it such undeniable advantages as quiet operation and high performance under any load. These sensations are no longer spoiled by a noisy chain drive, which has given way to a quiet, maintenance-free driveshaft. The pulsations of the engine are now clearly transmitted to the rear wheel, and the five-speed gearbox with close gear ratios only complements the overall idyll. Vibrations from the engine are transmitted to the driver just enough so that he can feel his breathing and the desire to move on. The Spirit's steering wheel is mounted on rubber dampers that reduce vibration, and the footpegs are equipped with rubber pads. And the engine itself is well balanced and its operation will not cause irritation even on long trips. The frame, as an important link in the entire structure, is made of round steel pipes. The massive die-cast headset and forged link plates give it the rigidity needed to keep the bike stable on both straight and twisty roads. The 41mm front fork with 130mm of travel provides a comfortable ride and smooth handling over bumps. The rectangular-section rear pendulum hides the driveshaft on its left side. Two shock absorbers with a modern internal valve system and five-position spring preload adjustment are attached to it. Their arrangement at an angle of almost 45 degrees gives the rear suspension a good soft response, which, combined with a stroke of 90 millimeters, will allow the driver to feel like on a smooth highway on any road. There are brakes! They cannot but exist. It’s just not worth talking about their exceptional efficiency on this bike. A single 296 mm front brake disc with a two-piston caliper and sintered metal pads is not able to quickly stop a motorcycle with a dry weight of 230 kg. And the rear 180 mm “drum” will not particularly affect the braking dynamics. If there were two discs in front, it would be a completely different conversation. But, apparently, this was originally intended by the manufacturer. A chopper is a chopper... and one disc is still better than two drums. It should be enough for a quiet ride. Instead of the plus sign, put a tick and move on.
Let's look at the instruments. They are located on the tank and do not distract the driver from the view of the road in front of him. The round speedometer dial is framed by a chrome frame. Among the “useful things” it has lights for turning on neutral and oil pressure. The small digital display shows the mileage - total and current. Switching between these indicators is a button. For an additional fee, you can purchase many parts for the motorcycle that expand its range of applications and simply styling. Among them you will find a backrest for the passenger, a trunk, rear and side leather cases, a small handbag for the steering wheel, a leather tank lining with a small pocket, a chrome radiator protection, a wide windshield and many other pleasant little things.
The owner of the motorcycle will also be pleased with Honda's concern for the safety of his two-wheeled friend. In order to reduce the risk of motorcycle theft, an immobilizer is integrated into the ignition lock, which allows you to start the motorcycle only with the original key. If both keys issued to you with the motorcycle are lost, you can order and reprogram new ones only through an official Honda representative. Despite all these newfangled things, Spirit remains a real chopper with all his guts. It is not his fault that Honda cares about the comfort and safety of its customers - this is required by the harsh current times. The time in which it was released, but to which it does not belong.

Steel Bike Concept Workshop
SBC's workshop is located in Bordeaux, and its small team of mechanics and tinsmiths has gathered around a talented leader, a jack-of-all-trades who has spent six years honing the team's skills and developing a unique and recognizable style. The guys are not afraid to work with new models and their thousands of sensors, countless kilometers of wiring and other unsightly features of modern technologies that significantly complicate the work of customizers. In 2021, the workshop, tempted by larger budgets and the scale of projects, began to take on cars, but still the bread and butter of SBC was and is brought by motorcycles.
The more technically complex a project is, the more interesting it is to us. Changing the appearance of a motorcycle is an important part of the job, but improving its technical capabilities is at least equally important for us. I call it this: we are working on the visual part, and working even more on the technical part,” said a representative of the workshop.
