In principle, this is not difficult to do, if not for two “plugs” with an “owl” piston. First: the distance from the finger to the bottom is 5 mm less than that of the Jupiter. Second: there is a “hole” in the piston with a “petal” for purging.
The first mismatch was easily eliminated: I removed excess metal from the cylinder jacket on a lathe so that the cylinder “sits” 5 mm. I had to tinker with the “holes” - I gave them to a specialist to weld. But first I bored out the cylinders for the pistons. Then I found old “Jupiter” pistons (of course, it is better to use “owl”) and cut plugs from their skirts of the same diameter as the holes in the parts being welded.
I removed large chamfers on both sides of the holes in the pistons and plugs and inserted the plugs. Welding in argon was carried out at the factory: the pistons were scalded both outside and inside. I processed the welded pistons by hand - I carefully peeled off the outer seams with a file and sandpaper. Then he adjusted the pistons directly onto the bored cylinders and removed the excess with sandpaper. I spent the season with this piston engine: modifications increased dynamics and top speed.

After polishing, install paronite gaskets under the plugs of the bypass channels and firmly tighten the screws securing the plugs (6 pieces). The use of sealant is not recommended. The windows (both inlet and outlet) should also be polished, having previously removed any irregularities.
To increase power by increasing the crankshaft speed, you can raise the edge of the exhaust port by a couple of millimeters. To reduce carbon formation, you need to polish the bottom of the piston to a shine, and remove casting flaws in the inner part that create resistance to the fresh mixture.

The crankshaft main bearings should rotate easily, without jamming, and should have virtually no play. This also applies to other bearings, since tight bearings waste engine energy. Finding good bearings is not very easy these days. It is advisable to use high-precision ones. After modifications, the crankshaft must be balanced.
The importance of reducing the volume of the crank chamber should not be underestimated. Due to the reduction in volume, the pressure of the fuel mixture will increase, which will improve the filling of the cylinders and increase power. True, this is no longer easy; the crank chamber and crankshaft will need to be reworked, and this is already a lot of work.
The cylinder head must not be damaged. The threads for the spark plug and decompressor should also not be damaged. If there is damage at the joint, it needs to be ground down a little on an abrasive wheel. If necessary, do the same with the cylinder, first unscrewing the studs.
