Some motorcycles, like the Irbis GS 150, are destined not to shine on the track or highway, but to be simple workhorse, unpretentious and modest. And who said that this is bad? You need different bikes, not just super-expensive ones or simply too powerful for beginners. In fact, Irbis 150 GS is Russian-Chinese answer to the super popular Yamaha YBR 125, inexpensive, simple as a brick, and great for training for beginner motorcyclists. Or just for everyday driving around the city or countryside, why not? He is quite capable of both of these tasks, as practice shows.


The Chinese have been persistently trying for a long time to move the YBR 125 off the pedestal, winning their market share in the niche of budget motorcycles, but so far they have not been particularly successful. The Irbis GS 150 can also hardly be called a new leader in this segment, but it will undoubtedly find its buyer, mainly due to its affordable price and generally good quality. The same YBR 125, by the way, is also assembled in China, so why is the Irbis 150 GS worse? If you need a simple motorcycle, but don’t have a lot of money in your pocket, then it’s worth taking a closer look at. Judging by the reviews of the Irbis GS 150 and the reviews of the owners of this bike, it is quite good, and even more so for its price. Let's see together what he is.

Driving performance

Pit bikes are not intended for cross-country racing, so you shouldn’t expect any special speeds from such a vehicle.
The maximum speed for the TTR 125, declared by the manufacturer, is 100 km/h. But the mechanics note that “this is subject to a fair wind and a good descent from a hill.” Acceleration to 100, accordingly, cannot be considered.

Fuel consumption

Fuel consumption depends on driving style and surface quality.

  • On a rolled primer - 1.5 liters.
  • Usually it does not rise more than 2 liters.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the motorcycle is best suited for riders of average height and shorter.

We decided to choose a café racer or something vaguely reminiscent of it, an entry-level one for a real hipster. Costing from 120,000 to 250,000 rubles. The models were selected by the editor-in-chief of Moto magazine, Anton Vlasov.

The requirements for hipster carts are simple: a budget price tag and the possibility of tuning by the average garage mechanic. Well, appearance within the framework of style, naturally!

The price for the new 2012 model starts at 31-33 thousand rubles. Depending on the dealer stores selling this motorcycle, prices may vary. In used condition. this model can be found for 15-20 thousand rubles. When buying a used bike, the price will depend on the mileage, year of manufacture and general condition of the motorcycle.

Conclusion: Irbis TTR 125 is a good cross-country motorcycle made in China. In terms of price/quality ratio, we can say that it is one of the market leaders in its class. A lightweight, technologically advanced and simply beautiful pit bike is suitable for educational purposes and off-road riding not only for teenagers, but also for adults.

Engine

The extremely archaic engine of the Irbis Intruder motorcycle is a simple air-cooled power unit with a power of 12.2 hp. This is frankly not enough for dynamic driving, so it’s not easy for the bike to reach a speed of more than 90 km/h, especially if it’s hampered by a strong headwind. But this engine also has undeniable advantages - it has a long service life, pulls well at low and medium speeds, digests any gasoline and is generally not prone to breakdowns.

Transmission

Structurally, the 5-speed gearbox is not far removed from the engine, that is, it is extremely simple and generally reliable. But it’s far from ideal - judging by the reviews, most owners are faced with the problem of finding a neutral gear. This does not indicate a breakdown, but rather a flaw, and this little thing really begins to irritate over time. However, it is still possible to adapt to the behavior of the gearbox, and if you turn on neutral not after stopping, but half a second before it, when the motorcycle is about to stop, then it is much easier to catch.

Chassis and brakes

The suspensions of the Irbis Intruder 200 are mediocre - too weak and primitive. They were clearly created with the average citizen of the People's Republic of China in mind, who is inferior in weight to the average Russian, and under a tall biker the Irbis Intruder 200 motorcycle immediately sags. Even without a passenger, the front fork often breaks and the wheel touches the inside of the fender, and the two rear shock absorbers don't behave much better. The brakes are also quite weak; the front wheel has one brake disc with a 1-piston caliper, and the rear wheel has a drum.

Electronics

There are no auxiliary systems, and the electronics themselves are no more complicated than in some Minsk or Sova. The only differences are the ability to start the engine from the starter and a USB port, but all these functions are implemented extremely simply. After purchase, it is also recommended to check how the wires are laid - at the factory they are sometimes laid out carelessly, and they can fray due to vibrations.

Weight and dimensions

Dry weight is 130 kg, and all these kilograms are felt in full, since the center of gravity is located quite high. In terms of dimensions, the bike is comparable to any of its “classmates” - for one driver it is quite comfortable, but if there is a passenger on the seat it will become a bit cramped. But it will not take up much space in the garage, and it is quite possible to park it with the car, squeezed into the space between it and the wall, even if there is not much space.

Controllability

The Intruder 200 motorcycle feels confident on rough terrain; it is not afraid of either wet ground or liquid mud. But on the asphalt, all its shortcomings are immediately felt - off-road tires are not conducive to sharp maneuvers, and the lack of traction does not allow for quick overtaking.

Fuel consumption

The gas tank holds 13.9 liters of gasoline, which is easily enough for 300 km of road without refueling, since the average consumption does not exceed 4 liters. The engine is not at all picky about fuel quality and readily consumes any gasoline. Moreover, there are serious suspicions that he is generally capable of working on anything that burns.

Well, it's time to tell the whole truth about Irbis motorcycles...

As I already wrote in the first post, the Irbis GS150 is my first motorcycle. I bought it spontaneously in the summer of 2014. It was perhaps the cheapest of the bikes presented in the store; only alphas, or deltas, and in the interpretation of this brand, Irbis Virago, could boast of a lower price. Yes, yes, under such a textbook name was hidden a Chinese 100-cc moped. Do I need to repeat that the choice fell on GS? I’ll say right away that among the representatives of such a famous company there were spendthrifts that I would easily exchange for a “little goose,” but the financial component was of paramount importance. And yet, for the sake of fairness, I will name devices that seem more interesting to me than the one I took. These are Intruder (hey, I also think we need to be more modest with the names) 200, TTR250 and XR250. The last one is actually designed for a tourenduro, my neighbor in the garage now has one. By the way, he praises. Having bought the motor, the first thing I did was drain the oil-like slurry from the crankcase and look at the manual. In it, in black and white, without any embarrassment, they recommended pouring a little Irbis brand. I admit, even if I had seen such oil in my eyes, I would never have bought it. So I crumpled up the manual, dipped it in the drill and made an excellent torch. And I filled the engine with ZIC synthetic.

At first the motor worked fine. The only problem was that electrolyte was leaking from the battery. And it didn’t flow like a child. Instantly the paint peeled off the cover of the drive sprocket, the metal (!) ring that snapped the rubber band that held the battery in place rusted and fell off. I had to make a new ring for the collective farm, but a little later that too fell apart. At the same time, the battery was charged normally, and the motor easily started with an electric starter. It’s amazing that the electrolyte continued to leak even when the motor was just standing in the garage. In the end, I had to remove the battery and throw it out the window. Started starting with kick. I can’t say how long this miracle of the Chinese motorcycle industry lasts, because it has driven less than 500 km, so the bike is still being run-in. To be honest, I have never revved above 4.5 thousand. At these speeds in fifth (highest) gear, the moped travels only more than 50 km/h, and engine vibration begins to be felt - as far as I understand, unlike the Intruder 200, the motor does not have a balancer shaft. They say this bike can fly at a speed of 120 km/h... Well, I have no reason not to trust other owners: it is possible that their speedometers show exactly this number. However, it seems to me that it is best to count on 100 km/h and not a kilometer more.

On one of my trips I ran out of fuel. Since then there have been problems. Maybe the carb grabbed debris from the bottom of the tank, although the fuel filter is in perfect order. Don't know. I know one thing: the engine still started easily, but immediately the speed dropped and I had to click the enricher, and it didn’t want to work smoothly in any of the three positions, it was necessary to click first in one position, then in another. The most interesting thing is that after engaging the gear and actually driving, the problem disappeared. It only appeared in neutral. Repeated disassembly and attempts to clean the carburetor yielded absolutely nothing. Adjusting the idle speed screw and changing the position of the needle did nothing. On the other hand, the brother Irbis Intruder had the same problem and it was solved in a few minutes - a smart guy came, looked at the bike, called a friend, asked how many revolutions to turn on the Irbis, and the bike started working like new, after which the same day it was successfully sold*. I think we should contact the same guy in the spring. A serious drawback of this model is the design and material of the central footrest. Not only does it almost scrape the ground when folded, like a plow, but it is also made of some kind of flimsy alloy. I sometimes like to drink beer in the garage and sit not on a chair, but on a moto... So, after several such gatherings, the central stand on the Irbis was bent and now splatters on the asphalt when driving. We'll have to remove it and modify it. From the very beginning, I was bothered by the frame design that was not closed at the bottom. I saw the solution on the same Irbis Intruder, there are already two steel tubes screwed under the crankcase from the factory - some kind of protection. I made the same thing, only from stainless steel tubes, bent them like a collective farm, but they serve their function. Someday I’ll have to take a photo and post it in the comments to this article.

Another disadvantage, but not a blunder, is that the wheels are too narrow: 2.50-18 and 2.75-18. If I don't sell it, I'll put on slightly larger tires. I have already installed the stock size on the back, but angrier.
