Motorcycle Honda PCX 125 2012 review

The PCX125 scooter became the European bestseller among two-wheeled motorcycle vehicles in 2011. A total of 23,000 units were sold in Europe during the year. It combines the styling of a modern 'big scooter' with an agile and reliable chassis (and has everything you need for maximum comfort), making it a great choice for comfortable and enjoyable everyday transport.

In 2012, the PCX line was expanded to include the PCX150 model. It is equipped with a more powerful 150 cc Honda engine of the new eSP (enhanced Smart Power) version. This 4-stroke new product from the company has a single cylinder, liquid cooling and is designed to provide greater reliability, efficiency and quietness. Honda was the first motorcycle manufacturer to announce in 2006 its intention to reduce CO2 emissions across all of its products (and the factories that make them). The company's new generation of engines represents a step forward in this direction.

Honda's PCX125 has everything a benchmark small scooter should have: practicality, fashionability and, of course, fun. The PCX 125 scooter is an everyday vehicle, but despite this, it has to be stylish.

Honda PCX 125 easily combines elegance with functionality: flowing curved lines make the appearance dynamic, looking great in the city, and a full hood and tinted windshield perfectly protect the driver from flying dirt. The long and wide footpegs provide plenty of room for a long-legged position that matches the softness of the saddle. Twin headlights with a striking design and raised-up direction indicators add depth and presence to the PCX's face.

The development of the new generation of Honda PCX 125 scooter engines was based on several objectives: increasing reliability combined with excellent performance, reducing noise levels, reducing CO2 emissions and reducing fuel consumption. The 4-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine of the Honda PCX 125 scooter, with a displacement of 123 m³, 2 valves and an overhead camshaft, incorporates all the advanced friction-reducing technologies to increase efficiency (increasing power while reducing fuel consumption). The weight and overall dimensions of the engine are kept to a minimum, which allows designers to easily vary the layout of the power unit when used in the future on different platforms.

The key to increasing the efficiency of the Honda PCX 125 engine was the use of technologies aimed at reducing friction: - The displacement of the cylinder reduced the friction caused by the contact of the piston with the cylinder walls. — The mass of the piston was reduced thanks to computer modeling. — The cylinder liner has a micro-rough surface, which reduces oil consumption and improves cooling. — To reduce friction, the rocker arm axles have sealed needle bearings. Small and lightweight rollers work in tandem with profile-optimized cams and force-matched springs. — The radiator core of the engine cooling system has become 1.5 times more efficient at dissipating heat, which made it possible to use a lighter and more compact fan. This resulted in a 30 percent reduction in friction losses.* - Internal changes to the engine design have reduced engine oil mixing losses. Transmission oil volume has been reduced by approximately 25%.* - Transmission friction losses have been reduced by approximately 20% (at 50 km/h) by using bearings that have been carefully selected to match the load on each bearing. *Compared to previous Honda 125cc engine.

Fuel is supplied to the compact combustion chamber by the PGM-FI injection system with very high precision, which ensures optimal combustion speed and engine cooling, as well as optimization of torque characteristics for the modes most used when driving small-capacity scooters. The intake tract of the Honda PCX 125 is as smooth as possible, which promotes better air flow into the engine. Optimized ignition characteristics, together with more efficient combustion chamber cooling, have reduced the likelihood of fuel detonation.

Smooth and exceptionally quiet starting of the Honda PCX 125 engine is achieved through the use of an electronically controlled alternating current generator-starter and a decompressor, which reduces the resistance to crankshaft rotation caused by compression in the cylinder. The Idling Stop Switch system is also used to operate the engine, which is controlled by a switch located on the steering wheel on the right remote control. When this system is turned on, the Honda PCX 125 scooter engine automatically stops after 3 seconds of idling and instantly restarts when the accelerator handle is turned. This saves fuel when you are waiting at a traffic light, for example.

The Honda PCX 125 city scooter uses a wide-range V-Matic variator, which has a low-noise and durable belt made of highly elastic rubber. It provides more efficient transmission of torque to the rear wheel, reducing fuel consumption. Fuel consumption of the PCX125 is 44.6 km per liter, which in terms of a 5.9-liter fuel tank equals 263 km per fill-up.

The durable backbone frame of the Honda PCX 125, made of steel pipes, provides a low saddle height (761 mm), which, combined with a wheelbase of 1305 mm and “relaxed” steering geometry, gives a confident and stable movement. The turning radius is only 1.98 m, which makes it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The 14-inch wheels also add stability, enhancing driver confidence.

The combined brake system engages the 220mm front brake disc and 130mm brake drum simultaneously, distributing braking force equally between them to achieve smooth, progressive and effective braking performance on the Honda PCX 125.

The versatility and comfort of the PCX 125 can be enhanced with a range of genuine Honda accessories, including: - Honda lock alarm kit - Rear rack - 26-litre top case - 26-litre top case bracket - U-lock - Scooter cover - Windscreen glass – Leg cape

Review of Honda PCX (2011)

1. Stops the engine after 3 seconds, provided that it is completely stopped and the brake is pressed (can be turned off). Starts instantly. Never caused any irritation. The engine always turns off when placed on the side stand.

2. I drove the PCX 19,000 km.

3. The device exceeds expectations. Firstly, excellent brakes (combined). Secondly, super comfort. In fact, the softness of the ride can be compared to a car. (My weight is 80 kg, I travel alone).

Combined brakes mean that when braking with the left brake, both the rear and front brakes are applied. Two circuits are connected to the lever. All this is dosed as needed. The result is excellent. At this weight, no ABS is needed.

I tried it with two people (+55 kg) - it’s not interesting, the handling deteriorates sharply, uncertainty appears, the dynamics drop (the maximum speed remains 105 km/h).

4. The device is lightweight and handles well in traffic jams.

5. On the highway it is relatively sufficient (maximum speed is 105 km/h, possibly electronic, since it does not depend on the wind or even hills). At maximum speed it is stable and does not cause uncertainty.

6. The only thing I would like “more” is overclocking. Still, the motor is clearly jammed. From zero it accelerates smoothly, but not evil. Moreover, completely unscrewing the handle is not the best option; you need to dose and play with gas. It accelerates to 60 km/h in one go, then it seems like it changes gear within 2 seconds, then again confidently accelerates to maximum speed.

Even at a speed of 105 km/h, when you slightly release and add gas, you feel a pickup (you feel acceleration), but the speed quickly stabilizes around 105 (that’s why I think that the limitation is electronic).

7. The tank fits exactly 150 rubles. (a little more than 5 liters, I refuel when the last line is flashing, there are 9 of them in total, and they clearly disappear non-linearly). Traveled from 200 to 240 km. It was 240 during the run-in, acceleration was at 1/3 of the throttle and the speed was no more than 60 km/h (in reality it was possible to keep no more than 80, it accelerates too easily even when driving like that).

8. Yes, the motor is as quiet as a child.

9. Build quality is very good. (My PCX was brought from Japan, they said they assembled it there, the stickers on the moped are in Japanese). Although the main assembly location is in Thailand.

10. Tidy is normal, nothing more; no tachometer, no clock, no temperature.

11. The low beam lights up immediately during the factory, the button controls are the same as everyone else, there are no punctures. The light is above average, I traveled at dusk.

12. Yes, the engine is cooled with water!

If you need anything, ask.

Comparison with analogues

Compared to illogical models, Honda zoomer 110 and Honda Click 125i and others. The PCX 150 has a more modern design and a higher top speed thanks to its 150cc volume. Moreover, the models are in the same price category. In terms of reliability, it is superior to expensive analogues. PCX became popular in Europe because of its environmental friendliness, in which it has no equal.

Reviews

The scooter has become my daily vehicle. I drive it to work, use it to move around the city, travel to distant shopping centers and to the stadium (outside the city). I'm happy with the model: good handling and stability on the road. Of the minuses: it is difficult to drive for more than 3 hours - the seat is not comfortable.
