Review of Stels Trigger its advantages and disadvantages

Motorcycle manufacturers rarely spoil motard lovers with new products - alas, the choice in this class is really very small, so each model, like the Stels Trigger 125, is greeted by the public with genuine interest. In addition, Chinese companies have flooded motorcycle showrooms with cheap small-capacity enduros, road bikes and cruisers, but somehow they haven’t imported motards before, and this is another reason to take a closer look at the Stealth Trigger 125. Despite the modest cubic capacity and obvious focus on novice bikers, this is a fun The two-wheeled toy is also popular with experienced motorcyclists who want adrenaline and entertainment.

Size doesn't always matter

And Stels Trigger 125 is an excellent confirmation of this. Its modest dimensions have only one drawback - it may not be very comfortable for a large motorcyclist. On the other hand, motards are not intended for long trips - you need to ride them around the city, clear traffic jams and have fun in every possible way. In addition, in the city, the Stealth Trigger 125 feels like a fish in water, and even the traditionally wide steering wheel does not interfere with seeping through cars, and the small engine provides surprisingly brisk acceleration. This bike is equally pleasant to ride on business, quietly passing where cruisers and sportbikes cannot squeeze through, or just ride on a warm summer evening. In addition, Stels Trigger 125 feels good on light off-road conditions. At least better than most other “asphalt” motorcycles.

The technical characteristics of the Stealth Trigger 125, by the way, are quite good for a budget Chinese motorcycle. The designers placed a 124 cc 1-cylinder liquid-cooled injection engine , which in itself is atypical for budget bikes from the Middle Kingdom. The motor is very good - 15 hp. and 12.2 Nm of torque, which is comparable to the characteristics of the 125 cc “Japanese”. At the same time, Stels Trigger loves high speeds, reaching its peak power at around 9000 rpm , which inevitably leads to unpleasant small vibrations. Unfortunately, this is inevitable on any small motorcycle. The transmission of the Stealth Trigger, by the way, is 6-speed , and all gears, except the top one, are quite short. On the one hand, they have to be constantly switched during active driving, but on the other, this has a very positive effect on the dynamics. The maximum speed of the Stels Trigger 125 is about 110 km/h , however, it’s a pity to “stoker” a light bike all the way - it starts to shake like a fitful Chihuahua dog.

Other advantages of Stealth Trigger 125 include ease of control. The bike actually steers very easily, which is facilitated by its low weight and proper mass distribution. The braking system is also surprisingly effective - both front and rear there are disc brakes with 2-piston calipers , and they stop the light bike well. The pendants, however, do not cause delight, but they do not cause hostility either. The Stels Trigger 125 has them, they work properly, but that’s all that can be said about them. Let's look at the rest in more detail:

What's good about Stealth Trigger?

Each motorcycle has its own advantages and disadvantages, and as it turned out, the advantages of the Stealth Trigger motorcycle are much greater than the disadvantages. Firstly, I would like to note the extended travel suspension. The suspension has two adjustment positions, the change of which determines its rigidity. This allows you to tailor the motorcycle specifically to yourself and to the conditions in which the bike is used. More specifically, you can adjust the central spring. Depending on the position, the motorcycle changes the stiffness of the suspension, and becomes a little higher or, conversely, lower.

I was also pleased with the fact that there are hydraulic brakes on both the rear and front wheels. This allows you to stop the motorcycle much faster in an emergency or in wet weather, and also skillfully transfers the weight of the bike from one wheel to another.

Having studied the electrics in more detail, it was concluded that the motorcycle has good waterproofing. In principle, it is normal for the enduro to have high-quality hidden and insulated wires and other electrical components. However, we are dealing with Chinese technology, so it would not be superfluous to check the quality of the wire winding. I would also like to note the tank. In Stels Trigger it is located under the seat. The specific reasons for its placement in this particular place are not completely clear, but there is a version that this has a positive effect on the weight distribution of the bike.

Pros and cons of Stels Trigger 125

Advantages

  • Good acceleration dynamics
  • Quite effective brakes
  • Modest weight - only 139 kg with a full tank
  • Excellent handling
  • Kick starter available in addition to electric starter

Flaws

  • The price is quite high for a 125 cc Chinese bike.
  • Good suitability for both asphalt and light off-road, especially if you install universal tires on it
  • The actual impossibility of taking on board a passenger taller than 160 cm due to the modest dimensions of the Stealth Trigger 125

Advantages of 125 cm3 over 50 cm3

Any person who is more or less familiar with motorcycles will definitely say that there is a difference. The difference of 75 cm3 does not seem that big at first glance. In fact, this is true, but only if we are talking about sports motorcycles, the cubic capacity of which starts from 600 cm3. Such an increase in cubic capacity on a sports bike will be truly unnoticeable. Firstly, enduros are much lighter than sports motorcycles, and secondly, “sports” have more cylinders.

However, you can understand everything yourself if you first ride the Stealth Trigger 50 , and then switch to a slightly more powerful version. It’s only worth saying that the first option is still more suitable for beginners. And for people with experience driving a motorcycle, the 50 cm3 version will seem boring. In any case, the right to choose remains with the buyer.

Reviews from Stels Trigger 125 owners

Cool moped, I bought it new from the dealership as a second bike, the first and main one was the VTX 1800. At first I read a lot of reviews about the Stealth Trigger, then I decided to buy it rather than a used Jeep, I ended up picking it up at the dealership at a discount for 66k, now it seems to be more expensive already worth it. With a height of 175 cm and a weight of 70, it drags confidently; I travel for work every day during the season, since on Vtyksa it’s hard to drag through traffic jams in the center, especially in the heat. Mileage 11,000 km, flight normal. Vitaly, Moscow, Stels Trigger 125 '2015

I use the bike mostly outside the city, I put it in off-road tires, with which it even moves confidently through the mud, although the suspension settings are not enough. There were typical Chinese problems - loose screws, oxidized contacts and other unpleasant little things. For its price, the motorcycle is normal, a Japanese one in such a budget would be a waste of money. Roman, Bologoe, Stels Trigger 125 '2014

A very interesting lightweight motard, perfect for riding around the city. I took the bike from my hands, scratched and lying on both sides, so I repainted it right away, without the Stealth inscription no one will even recognize the Chinese. Nimble, lightweight, easily handles heavy two-wheelers in traffic jams, and can drive anywhere, even on steps. The suspension is a bit harsh and the gears have to click constantly. Accelerates sharply, enough in the city. Vasily, St. Petersburg, Stels Trigger 125 '2016

Review of Stels Trigger its advantages and disadvantages

What is the difference between 2T and 4T engines?

Let's start with the operating principle. Any internal combustion engine has a piston that rotates the crankshaft (and ultimately the wheels) through a connecting rod, driven by the energy of combustion of fuel vapor mixed with air (combustible mixture). In a 2T engine, the process of filling the cylinder with a fresh combustible mixture, compressing it, igniting it, power stroke (when the combustion energy forcefully moves the piston down, rotating the crankshaft) and releasing exhaust gases occurs in two strokes.

First beat. The piston goes up, compressing the fuel mixture. The flammable mixture ignites. Second stroke, working stroke. The expanding gases push the piston down. When it is at the bottom, it opens the exhaust and intake ports in the cylinder walls. The exhaust gases exit into the muffler, a fresh fuel mixture takes their place and the first cycle is repeated. All this happens in one revolution of the crankshaft. In a 4T engine, the process of filling the cylinder with a fresh combustible mixture, compressing it, ignition, power stroke and releasing exhaust gases occurs in four strokes. First stroke, intake. The piston moves down, the intake valve opens, and the fuel mixture enters the cylinder. When the piston reaches the bottom position, the intake valve closes.

Second stroke, compression. The piston goes up, both valves are closed, the fuel mixture is compressed. When the piston is at the top, the spark plug ignites the combustible mixture. Third stroke, power stroke (expansion). Hot gases expand rapidly, pushing the piston down (both valves are closed). Fourth measure, release. By inertia, the crankshaft continues to rotate (for uniform rotation, weights are installed on the crankshaft - crankshaft cheeks), the piston goes up. At the same time, the exhaust valve opens and the exhaust gases exit into the exhaust pipe. In the upper position of the piston, the exhaust valve closes. These 4 strokes occur in two revolutions of the crankshaft.

They say that a two-stroke engine is more powerful and the scooter with it is more dynamic. It's right? Yes. A 2T engine manages to use fuel combustion energy twice in two revolutions of the crankshaft. Many believe that it is twice as powerful as the 4T engine. But pay attention, in the 2T engine part of the cylinder is occupied by the intake and exhaust ports, which means the amount of fuel that will then burn is less in volume than in the 4T engine, where the cylinder is solid. In the 2T engine, due to the simplicity of its design, the crankshaft is lubricated by oil added to gasoline. Oil in the working mixture reduces the energy released (oil burns worse). Due to the peculiarities of the intake and exhaust of the combustible mixture and exhaust gases in the 2T engine, more of the combustible mixture “flies into the pipe” without burning. In a 4T engine, this process is minimal due to a more complex intake-exhaust mechanism. As a result, 2T engines are indeed more powerful (but not twice as powerful), but their higher power is achieved in a narrower operating range of crankshaft revolutions (that is, you start from a standstill, the scooter barely accelerates, then the so-called “pickup” occurs). “, the scooter “shoots”, but quickly fades) and for a dynamic ride you will have to maintain a certain engine speed all the time. As you understand, the more powerful the 2T engine, the narrower the speed range, the finer the settings and the more expensive the engine. Either athletes (where it is more important to squeeze everything out now) or owners of chainsaws and lawn mowers (for which the simpler and cheaper, the better) can enjoy the full benefits of the 2T engine. If you want to improve the dynamic characteristics of your scooter, you can install a kit to increase the engine displacement to 70 cc.m. After the modification, your scooter will not be inferior to the 2T model and the riding pleasure will be greater.

Total

Despite the decent price (more than 80 thousand rubles in 2018 ), Stealth Trigger 125 undoubtedly deserves attention. It is equally good as a first motorcycle and as a recreational bike. And it can handle the role of utilitarian transport - it consumes little gasoline, traffic jams are not a problem for it, and it is easy to drive. Perhaps the Stels Trigger 125 can be called one of the best small-capacity Chinese motorcycles on the Russian market.

Review of Stels Trigger its advantages and disadvantages

Recently, motorcyclists have begun to pay more and more attention to two-wheeled enduro class vehicles. This popularity is due to the versatility of such motorcycles. Of course, the main task for which this class is produced is off-road movement - gravel, sand, mud, etc. However, no one forbids riding an enduro on asphalt roads, which these motorcycles also do very well. Indeed, when you have the opportunity to get off the paved road and have some fun off-road, you get a lot more pleasure from owning a motorcycle. One of the representatives of the enduro class is Stels Trigger, which will be discussed in our review.

Motorcycle modifications

It is available in two types, distinguished by the letters “X” or “SM” in the name. Stels Trigger 50 X is an enduro , and SM , accordingly, is a motard . They differ from each other in wheel sizes, tires, color schemes and a number of small details. Also, the X version is not equipped with mirrors, since it is not intended for public roads, being, from a legal point of view, sports equipment.

Review of Stels Trigger its advantages and disadvantages

I decided to write about this small-capacity motard, which recently became mine.
There is not much information on the Internet, but the model is very interesting, in my opinion, it will be useful to someone. A small preface: I have 3 years of experience driving motorcycles, I’m in my 4th year, it all started with a mokika ZiD 50 Pilot, there was also an Irbis ttr 125 pit bike, but that’s a completely different story. During this time, I had to tinker with engines and related little things more than once on other equipment.

The motorcycle was purchased at the end of November 2014. By a lucky coincidence, I got it for 70k. new rubles, of course, not without reason, where you bought them, as they say, are no longer available. It was the last one standing in one of the dealer showrooms, and as it turned out later, it stood there for a long time. The battery on the motorcycle was completely drained, and at my request to “charge and start,” one of the mechanics of the salon, if you can call him that, came out, and it immediately became clear that he was not friendly with this model. For about 15 minutes he tried to find this battery. and after some hints, having removed the front plastic and the air intake cover, I found it. From the factory, the triggers were installed with Bosh 7A, mine, apparently, had been discharged for too long and refused to come to life, without hesitation it was replaced with a similar one. By the way, the battery is really hidden deep and far away, which is good for me. For quick access, my advice is to put a pair with + and - somewhere under the seat, in case of charging or connecting any additional devices. The air filter is located well, almost at the highest point of the motorcycle.

Motorcycle price

A brand new Stels Trigger X costs about 70 thousand rubles , give or take. The supermoto modification is practically the same in price. And a used copy can be found for half the money, but you need to check the equipment very carefully before purchasing, since there is a non-zero chance of buying what bikers call with the contemptuous word “firewood.” Due to the extreme operating conditions, enduros and motards are easy to “kill,” especially if not properly maintained.

Technical characteristics of Stels Trigger 50

How much do you expect from a moped with a 50cc engine? cm. ? If not, this bike will surprise you. The compact motard (or enduro, depending on what you choose) is not only comfortable, it also rides much more vigorously than you expect from it, confidently fitting into sharp turns, obediently leaning when necessary, and in every possible way proving that with a 50 cc engine you can get a lot of pleasure from driving. The technical characteristics of Stels Trigger 50 X and SM do not have stars in the sky, but they are able to satisfy the needs of any beginner.

Engine

The Stels Trigger 2-stroke liquid-cooled power unit produces 5 hp. , which is several times more than the typical figures for a similar volume in most other models. The power is enough for Stels Trigger X to quickly rush forward if the owner carelessly releases the clutch. At high speeds, the agility becomes less, but the bike is still capable of reaching the maximum speed declared by the manufacturer of 90 km/h .

Transmission

The Chinese who developed the Stealth Trigger 50 collaborated with the Austrian company Generic in the process of creating the model. It was the Austrians who created the engine and gearbox , so the bike received a 6-speed transmission . The gear ratios are short, so you have to switch them often, but this solution adds agility to the moped. Sixth gear can be engaged already at 50 km/h .

Chassis and brakes

The steel chassis of the motorcycle is equipped with inverted telescopic fork a classic pendulum with a monoshock absorber . Among the adjustments, there is only the ability to change the pretension, but this is quite enough. The suspensions are energy-intensive, and they are sufficient for driving both on asphalt and off-road. But you shouldn’t seat a passenger, especially since the Stels Trigger X (like the SM version) was originally designed for one person , and it’s absolutely uncomfortable for two people. But on both wheels there are hydraulic disc brakes, which are effective and tenacious.

Electronics

Chinese designers did not equip the motorcycle with any auxiliary systems in order to keep the cost at an affordable level. As a result, the motorcycle has a minimum of electronics - only the essentials. And, judging by the reviews of the owners, it is advisable to personally check the insulation and wiring after purchase, since due attention is not paid to this important point at the assembly stage.

Weight and dimensions

Stels Trigger 50 X weighs as much as 111 kg (SM version - 115 kg) , which is a lot for a moped. But thanks to its low center of mass, it feels light and easy to handle. Dimensions are comparable to those of more powerful 125 or 250 cc models. see, and if you don’t know that this is a 50 cc bike in front of you, it’s impossible to guess it.

Controllability

The ergonomics of the Stealth Trigger 50 are well thought out, as is the weight distribution. Therefore, the motorcycle handles great, although a lot depends on the skills of the pilot. The Trigger 50 SM easily fits even into sharp turns at almost full speed, and the enduro version feels no less confident even on wet ground. You can drop the bike if you want, but the plastic is highly durable and it is unlikely to get damaged.

Fuel consumption

The stated figure is just over 2 liters . In practice, the picture is different, but gasoline consumption directly depends on driving style and operating conditions. If you drive the Stels Trigger X on hard off-road conditions and change the oil according to engine hours, the consumption can reach 4-4.5 liters per hundred . And in more benign conditions it will actually be about 2.5 liters . Considering the 10-liter gas tank , this is enough.
