Troubles began already when registering with the traffic police. The engine and frame numbers corresponded to the entries in the documents, but on the plate that is attached to the steering column axis, the numbers are different. I guessed it: at the Kovrov plant named after. Degtyarev was confused; I waited a month for an answer to the request from ZiD. Finally, the formalities are settled - go ahead.
The motorcycle made such a noise when driving that people shied away - it was the “oak” tires that were “singing”. After running-in, the engine showed what it is capable of - it accelerated to 75 km/h. The speedometer needle has turned almost 360 degrees! It became scary. Not for the arrow - for yourself. Neither the Farmer's suspension nor its tires are designed for driving on asphalt. He is not “standing” on the road. The 200 cc engine seems to be good, but the clutch is weak - the discs wear out very quickly. The gearbox is too delicate, it needs additional post-factory fine tuning. I took the engine apart several times to adjust the engagement of 4th gear. The gear ratios of the “box” are, in general, well chosen, but those of the gearbox are not so good. On climbs, even in first gear, the engine pulls to the limit of its capabilities.
One day, after a successful fishing trip, he was pleased with himself and got ready to go home. I'm moving away, I feel something is wrong. Look, the engine is almost lying on the ground: the lower frame pipe in the area of the engine cylinder has broken* And around the tundra* I would have been cuddling in it for a long time, if not for a miracle - a repair team was working nearby to service power lines, there was a qualified welder with a welding machine
And how much the rear wheels and shock absorbers annoyed me! What smart guy thought of placing them on a slotted surface only 2 centimeters long?! While moving, the wheels, no matter how much you tighten them, constantly dangle and break the connection. The rear shock absorber seals wear out quickly and leak. And the springs are rather weak.
So I drove and suffered for several years until I acquired (it was my luck!) another Kovrovsky ZiD car - “Tarpan”. The device is lightweight, reminds me of the “Farmer” I know. The difference between them is that there are not one, but two wheels in front... I didn’t see any difference in quality either.
On the very first trip the chain broke - it was too weak for such a device. The half-ring yoke is poorly welded to the rear engine mounting pipe. A crack along the seam appeared after the same first trip. (Afterwards I drilled both pipes and tightened them with a bolt with wide washers. And then I welded it all together thoroughly.) The seat is from an ordinary Kovrov motorcycle. What genius put him here?! It's too narrow - you get tired on it quickly. The headlights are from the “Pilot”, they barely shine, and are also located too low. Maybe they are good for a moped, but the quad needs stronger light, at least the same as on the “Farmer”.

- I purchased this ATV in winter. Around the beginning of spring, my friends suggested that I do a short run along the outskirts and in forest areas, to which I agreed. On this run I tested the ATV engine and was pleasantly surprised. The first positive impression that stuck in my memory for a long time was that the ATV has excellent traction, and at very low engine speeds. At low levels the car drags like a tank. But at high speeds, the torque noticeably weakens, and there is no point in revving the engine further, since traction will not increase. As for other impressions, the model goes almost everywhere it is possible and impossible. The handling is not exactly excellent, but quite good.
- The Zid 200 Tarpan ATV is quite a normal device for the money. I liked the rubber on the wheels in this model. Here it is softer, which improves cross-country ability and, in my opinion, makes the ride even smoother. I have absolutely no negative opinion about this ATV. Mine has already covered more than 2,500 kilometers and during all this time the equipment has not broken down or caused any complaints. I corrected all the faults that existed on the first day and the model still does not fail. I haven’t driven it onto asphalt, and I don’t think it’s reasonable, because the ATV is designed for off-road use, for creating roads where there never were any. For others who scold this technique, I want to convey one thing, you just need to take care of the ATV and then it will serve its owner for a long time and regularly, because you can easily break Hondas and Yamahas due to stupidity.
- The ATV is very excellent, at least for its price. Zid copes off-road without much difficulty. The engine feels really powerful and torquey. Sometimes it even starts to slip. Fuel consumption is low, and sometimes very economical. The dimensions are compact, which gives it a noticeable advantage in maneuverability. It holds the road perfectly and doesn't wander around. Easily fits into a trailer, making outdoor trips easier. Although I purchased the ATV second-hand, there have been no serious breakdowns so far, which I’m very happy about. The only thing missing is the fuel level indicator, but overall everything is very good. I'm happy with the equipment, I don't even think about selling it.
