The all-terrain vehicle was designed by Alexey Pozdeev in Yakutia - specifically so that it could easily see any sights while passing through difficult off-road conditions.

Having decided that such a method of transportation clearly does not correspond to modern realities, the author of the project developed a car capable of traveling on the most difficult off-road conditions. For this purpose, we had to abandon many technical solutions familiar to modern all-terrain vehicles. The Sokol ATV, photos of which are posted on many websites, is essentially an extreme vehicle. It seems that mass-produced models cannot compete with it when moving over rough terrain.

Of course, when working on the project, its author did not manufacture the components and assemblies himself, but took ready-made parts as a basis, albeit making certain changes and modifications to some of them.

Characteristics of the base model

The first version of the model is considered experimental. It was on sale, but the manufacturer considered its parameters insufficient and discontinued it. Of course, if you wish, you can find such an ATV in used form.

Engine

The experimental version was equipped with a 1SZ-FE engine and a Toyota Vitz gearbox. The volume of the power unit is 996 cm3, the power is 70 horsepower.

There are also four cylinders. And long-term engine operation is ensured by a liquid cooling system. All this makes it possible to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The next version featured the 1NZ-FE 1496 cm3 engine. volume and 109 horsepower. The new engine has a long service life and suitable parameters, unlike the first version. On average, 8 liters of gasoline are consumed per 100 km.

Suspension and transmission

To increase cross-country ability, the independent suspension was removed from the design. Instead, they installed Suzuki continuous axles. After the transmission, a rigid permanent locking of the interaxle type was added with fixation of the rear axle differential in a certain state.

Because of this, controllability was impaired and cross-country ability increased.

As reviews from owners show, the Sokol ATV has an uncomfortable suspension, but it is most suitable for it. Hydraulic brakes were added to the chassis, capable of working in difficult conditions. The suspensions do not have stabilizers, levers or other parts that can wear out. Due to this, the car can easily drive through large stones, logs and other obstacles.

The ATV was installed on continuous axles from the popular Japanese SUV Suzuki Jimni. But even the capabilities of these operationally proven units seemed insufficient to the developer. The transmission received a rigid permanent center lock, and the rear axle differential was tightly welded. It is clear that this did not have a very favorable effect on handling, but cross-country ability has increased significantly. At the same time, the front axle is still switchable. To do this, it was necessary to make special hubs of a hermetically sealed design. Along with the axles, hydraulic brakes also migrated to the all-terrain vehicle.

The suspension is made as simple as possible. Its design uses springs and silent blocks from the GAZ-3302 Gazelle, and there are no parts susceptible to damage, such as additional levers, rods and stabilizers. As a result, even if there are logs or stones under the belly of the ATV, the risk of breakdowns is minimized. Reviews evaluating the Sokol ATV say that it is difficult to call its suspension comfortable.
