Yamaha MT-01 motorcycle review
The motorcycle doesn’t consume buckets of gasoline. There is very little tuning. I liked the dynamics! It's rare to see power cruisers with such an engine. By the way, the power unit is installed from a Yamaha Varior. Very good brakes, but I liked the handling, it was at a higher level. It’s just that I couldn’t overcome the bitch vibration that the v-twin creates. The landing is quite high, I was not able to make a long distance ride on it. Maximum distance without stops is 150 km. After which my arms and back became numb, I agree, this may not be out of habit. I didn’t appreciate the landing, it’s not for long-distance driving. For that, he has more than enough charisma, he constantly drove away demons, sometimes they try to sit down, sometimes they try to touch him.
My conclusions are as follows: An excellent bike for the city and mini long-distance bikes. Very modern made. The sound guys is something, well, the engine itself commanded! in twin how not how. Excellent handling and plenty of power! There's a ton of charisma, girls throw themselves in stacks. Well, the price of this miracle only makes it a minus. But here it is, if you want a good bike, pay from the top.
I tested it one evening, just when I owned the X4. A mot for a rare fan. The steering, chassis and brakes are excellent, I expected worse. The weight is practically not felt. It will be very convenient in the city. The motor is really powerful! With wild vibrations, you can’t see anything in the mirrors)) It feels like you’re driving a motor. The vibrations are soft, not as nasty as on HD. Acceleration is quite brisk, the gears are short, as is the operating range of the engine. A tractor, in a word)) A small maximum speed... The dynamics of the X cannot be compared even close.
In general, you definitely need to find, look and ride it in order to understand whether it’s yours or not. Either you fall in love, or you will be disappointed.
I am the owner of this device. The fact that 600 ka makes it is complete nonsense. Up to 100 km I put in a 2005 R1. The longest trip I have so far is only 400 km one way with an average speed of 160-170, while the tachometer does not even have 4 thousand revolutions. Vibrations occur only in one range of 2700-3000. In general, he is very satisfied with the motorcycle; in Belarus there are actually no more than three of them.
The downside is that you simply can’t fall on it. There are no sliders or cages, and it is not clear where and how what is sold is placed. If you take it, it’s better to immediately take it with Akrapovic because They are difficult to find separately and they are not cheap. There are very few spare parts on the net - the motor is European and has not been supplied to the USA.
I bought the MT-01 in 2008, before that I rode a friend’s macaque a couple of times in the eighth grade - i.e. experience = 0.0 I doubted for a long time whether I could pull it off (they intimidated me with all sorts of articles like “the first one should be 125 cubic meters”), but the spendthrift turned out to be quite easy to manage and even friendly. The traction is excellent (for me, and I weigh 95 kg), with a passenger it’s stressful, and the driver and passenger are a selfish spendthrift. Aggressive appearance, unique sound - attention is guaranteed. At three thousand revolutions, an unpleasant vibration appears on the steering wheel - it’s uncomfortable to even hold your fingers on the brake lever, but as the speed increases, the vibration decreases to acceptable. Driving at speeds over 140 km/h does not bring much pleasure - it blows away with the wind, I bought a sports windbreaker for long trips, but have not tried it yet. A small unpleasant moment - there is a small range of revolutions in the first and second gears during which there is a loud knock from behind, for a long time I thought that the license plate was slamming from vibrations, but then I found the reason - the back of the saddle is slamming (the legs with which the saddle rests on the frame are made of dense plastic - they knock) sticking thick rubber pads on them solves the problem. But in general, it’s an excellent moto, you won’t regret it, although if you need a lot of dope, take the new V-Max, if you have the means.
The Yamaha MT-01 is a very, very unique motorcycle, a kind of hybrid, which, although it belongs to the class of street fighters, has a lot of features that are atypical for a city motorcycle. This experimental model first went on sale in 2005 and literally amazed many bikers. What can we even talk about here? It's not every year that the public is shown a city motorcycle with a monstrously powerful cruiser engine.
Yes, yes, the main distinguishing feature of the Yamaha MT-01 is the engine borrowed from the Yamaha XV1700 Warrior, a power cruiser that is very popular both in Russia and in other countries. Subsequently, the motor design for the MT-01 was redesigned to make it lighter, but the basics remained the same. However, the engine remained the heaviest part of the motorcycle. But the frame was made new, light alloy, although the first prototype of the Yamaha MT-01 assumed the use of a motor from Warrior and a frame from Yamaha FJR 1300 .
This 1.7-litre air-cooled V-twin comes with fuel injection and a 5-speed gearbox.
Since this engine has cruiser roots, it has the appropriate character - not very high maximum power, coupled with hellish thrust in the lower rev range. It's no joke - with a maximum power of 80 hp. The Yamaha MT-01 develops a torque of 150 nm, which is comparable to the famous Suzuki Hayabusa , only the MT-01 reaches its peak torque value at three and a half thousand rpm.
Due to the fact that the heaviest part of the motorcycle, the engine, is located very low to the ground, two and a half hundredweight of weight is not very felt, the bike seems friendly and quite light. True, after the first ride this impression disappears somewhere - the engine from Warrior, installed in a noticeably lighter motorcycle, turns the Yamaha MT-01 into a roaring rocket, capable of taking off like a bullet and disappearing somewhere far in the distance in a matter of seconds. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes the MT-01 just over three seconds, and the top speed is about 220 kilometers per hour.
However, this motorcycle’s kinship with cruisers is limited to the engine. Otherwise, this is a modern, stylish urban streetfighter, albeit with unusual design and engineering solutions, such as mufflers partially hidden under the tail, which emit a powerful roar when you turn the throttle. If it were not for the engine, perhaps the Yamaha MT-01 would not be too different from other representatives of the MT series, but the engine is the main feature of this motorcycle. Yes, this bike won’t set any speed records, but calling its acceleration dynamics “good” is about the same as calling Jack the Ripper a prankster.
In addition to the powerful V-twin, the motorcycle has suspensions tailored for city driving with an inverted fork and a rear monoshock from a Yamaha R1, as well as excellent, very tenacious brakes. In addition, thanks to the long wheelbase, it is not in danger of suddenly lifting onto the rear wheel during a sharp start, which is good news. But what’s not encouraging is the consumption, which in the city averages about 9-10 liters, and with aggressive driving it can significantly exceed this figure. However, a 15-liter gas tank is not a problem for the Yamaha MT-01, since this is a city motorcycle, and in the city there are gas stations on almost every corner. It’s only a pity that Yamaha did not install a fuel level sensor and made do with a simple warning lamp that lights up when there is little gasoline left.
This motorcycle deserves attention at least because it is unique. How many bikes can you name offhand that can boast a luxurious sports chassis, a lightweight and durable frame, and at the same time a locomotive-like, high-torque and powerful engine? Same thing. And the MT-01 boasts all this and much, much more.

Service at an authorized Yamaha dealer. Deception and unprofessionalism.
Since I bought the Yamaha MT-09 TRACER in a showroom, new, to maintain the warranty I had to visit an official dealer, whose name I will not say here.
Before this, I could not even imagine that in Moscow/the region it was possible to treat clients and their expensive equipment the way I did.
So, maintenance at 10,000 km. It would seem, how can you mess up when changing the oil and filter? Can! I call up and bring the bike. The mechanic accepts it, and after a while gives it back, issuing a work order that specifies the work (3,600 rubles), semi-synthetic oil, 3 liter cans, and a branded filter for 1,190 rubles. Well, ok, having paid 7,640 rubles to the cashier, I get on the bike and go to the garage. Halfway there I notice the oil level light is on . I realize that this bad man poured 2 liter cans into my crankcase instead of the required 2.3 liters, and kept the third one, which I paid for, for himself. Having estimated how much time I would spend dealing with the service, I decided that it would be faster and closer to get to the garage, where I would add oil to the level and forgive them the 950 rubles cost of a liter of oil. Which is what I did upon arrival. But what was my surprise when the next day I found the “ replaced ” oil filter marked Hiflo Filtro, instead of Yamaha. Those. Not only did they cheat me on the oil, but they also didn’t change the filter (I installed the Hiflo Filtro myself at 5000 km). Such impudence already requires a showdown, and an hour later I was sitting in the office of the director of this service, explaining the situation. Unfortunately, that foreman was not there (he seemed to be on some kind of training), but the director, after listening to me and agreeing with the evidence in the form of work orders and an unreplaced filter, gave instructions to give me a liter of oil and my original Yamaha filter “ since I paid for it.” The error with the filter was explained by the fact that during this maintenance procedure the filter did not need to be changed, but it was written out by accident, without malicious intent. Well, let's believe it.
Rakes were invented specifically to be stepped on repeatedly. What made me turn to the same officials after the first incident, I don’t know. Maybe he thought it was an unfortunate accident.
So, one day, on a motorcycle that was still under warranty, it seemed to me that there was a knocking sound in the area of the steering column bearing. Where should you go in this case? Of course, to the officials. To professionals trained in special courses, equipped with special tools and armed with the knowledge of how to use them. To people whose entire service walls are covered with diplomas and awards.
Had arrived. Rolled up. Remembering the past, I insisted that I would stand in the service area and pretend to be a rag in the corner. What happened next left me in such shock that I didn’t even have time to take a photo of the “master’s” work. Having removed the yoke and getting to the “toothed” [castle] nuts, he stated that they needed to be tightened and everything would be fine.
Having searched and not found a special tool for these nuts, he decided that it was best, in the presence of the client, to start tightening them by resting something like a chisel on the “tooth” of the nut and hitting it with a hammer! And this despite the fact that the lower nut is first tightened with a torque of 52 Nm, and then loosened and retightened with 18 Nm, and there is a rubber gasket between the upper and lower! Using a chisel, instead of a torque wrench, he began to tighten where the Japanese clearly wrote the tightening forces! I couldn’t even imagine something like this from the officials. I thought this was the level of Izha repairs in garages.
Now I regret two things: that I didn’t take a photo of this process of twisting and that I went there at all.
Returning to the garage, I immediately went to the auto parts store, picked up a suitable hexagon, turned it into an “exclusive special tool” with a grinder, installed and secured the unnecessary 22-point socket inside and got an excellent opportunity to tighten these nuts using a regular torque wrench with the required torque.
Draw your own conclusions, but I recommend not visiting workshops where you will not be allowed to observe what is happening with the motorcycle.
