Yamaha Jog RR scooter review
Yamaha scooters have the most sporting character among all Japanese-made models.
This refers to the fact that all devices from this manufacturer, without exception, have sporty, dynamic characteristics.
If we talk about the Yamaha Jog model, then in the 50cc segment it is the face of the company, constantly improving and being refined.
But, despite the excellent sporting and dynamic characteristics, the Yamaha Jog is also available as a sports version of the ZR.

This model often becomes a winner in races , and it will appeal to those who want to squeeze the best out of their technology.
Yamaha Jog ZR will easily reach 75 km/h using the switch installed on models intended for the Japanese market.
But there is one nuance here. From Japan, scooters arrive on domestic shelves tuned, they are equipped with sports CVTs and Daytona switches.
But our craftsmen replace such parts with regular ones, and then sell the scooter at the same price. Therefore, it is best to purchase ZR models from a container ; here you have a better chance of getting a tuned version.
It is necessary to take into account that tuning often reduces the engine life by half. And, given that these scooters are purchased for the purpose of aggressive riding, it is assumed that the engine will be used to the maximum.
This vehicle is in no way suitable for a quiet ride to get groceries to the store or to work. Yamaha Jog ZR is not for lovers of a quiet ride.
We will look here in detail at the characteristics of the Japanese scooter - Yamaha Jog RR.
Yamaha Jog Aprio scooter review
The Japanese 50cc Yamaha Jog scooters demonstrate a bright sporty character.
In the high-speed Jog family, Yamaha has included the Jog Aprio scooter, with a less aggressive character than all other models. An interesting review of the Jog Aprio scooters and a comparison of its characteristics with the parameters of other Jog scooter models. Features that characterize Jog Aprio:
- quieter dynamic characteristics
- the latest digital ignition system
- excellent handling and predictability
- conservative design
- light weight and dimensions
- rack under saddle
- it is permissible to increase the ground clearance by installing higher wheels
- It is permissible by tuning to increase the speed to 90 km/h.
The engines on all Jog scooters are dynamic and have virtually no flaws. They are distinguished by their high efficiency, but the consumption of the Jog Aprio scooter is only 1.6 liters per 100 km, which is much less than that of the Jog Z NextZone, whose consumption is 3.5-5 liters.
Scooters of different years of production differ in some parameters and are designated type1 and type2.
Type 2 scooters have increased power and increased ground clearance due to higher wheels. Some models have a front disc brake. Technical characteristics of the Jog Aprio model (first type):
Length — 1615 mm Width — 630 mm Height — 1000 mm Seat height — 700 mm Wheelbase — 1135 mm Ground clearance — 100 mm Gas tank — 4.0 l Oil tank — 0.8 l Gross weight — 61 kg Engine — 3JK 2-stroke Cooling — air Volume — 4 9cc cm | Cylinder — 1 (diameter 40 mm) Piston stroke — 39.2 mm Compression — 7.3 Power — 6.4 hp at 6500 rpm Torque — 0.75 at 6000 rpm Electric starter and kick starter CVT (V-belt) Suspension front - telescopic Rear suspension - pendulum Front drum brake Rear drum brake Wheels - 80-90/10 |
For beginner scooter riders, Jog Aprio is the most suitable option for gaining initial skills in driving high-speed scooters.
For many, the versatility of the scooter is also attractive; it can be used not only in the city, but also outside it. The price of a scooter can be called affordable - the average cost of a scooter is 25 thousand rubles. Yamaha Motor Co. Dealers Ltd, for scooters without mileage in Russia, they provide a 1 year or 1000 km warranty.

The main power unit is a gasoline, single-cylinder, 2-stroke 3KJ engine. The transmission is automatic (variator). The engine receives the necessary cooling due to the air flow that is created while driving. The working volume is 49 cc. The 3KJ is started using an electric or kick starter. Horsepower 6.4.
Rear and front wheel size: 80-90-10. Main overall dimensions: length - 1615 mm; width—630 mm; height - 1000 mm. The scooter weighs 61 kg. Maximum load on frame 150 kg. The volume of the gas tank is 4 liters, the oil tank is 0.8 liters. Declared fuel consumption (passport data) is 1.8 per 100 km. The frame is steel, tubular type.
The suspension damping system operates properly while driving. The front telescopic fork installed at the front copes with its tasks perfectly. A comfortable ride without shaking would not be possible without the rear spring suspension. Drum-type brakes are installed as a braking mechanism. Braking is fast, which is especially important in emergency situations.
Lightweight and reliable scooter Yamaha Jog Aprio
Today we are reviewing, one might say, a legendary model of 2-wheeled equipment from the land of the rising sun - the Yamaha Jog Aprio scooter. It's no secret that scooters that proudly “bear” the Yamaha banner are considered the sportiest among their Japanese counterparts. Aprio is no exception; in appearance, of course, this model may cause some mistrust. Small, modest dimensions can lead to the idea that the moped is slow and cannot be enjoyed at high speed. But the common “misconception” immediately changes after the first race.
The installed 50cc engine allows the Aprio to accelerate to 60 km/h. If you install several sports devices (switch, variator), the maximum speed increases to 70-80 km/h. Tempting, isn't it? If we add to these indicators the high quality of all parts and the assembly of the scooter as a whole, we can safely say that the Yamaha Jog Aprio is an excellent technique, especially for riding through the “concrete jungle”. Moreover, almost everyone can afford to buy a Yamaha Jog Aprio. Let's look at the main technical characteristics.

Design
Like most Japanese scooters of the 90s, the frame and engine on the Aprio Jog are “hidden” with plastic. Speaking of plastic, its quality is quite high. At the same time, it is quite flexible. In case of minor falls or micro accidents, only cracks remain on it. The electromechanical instrument panel contains all the necessary instruments and switches.

Scooter parameters
The dimensions of the Yamaha Jog Aprio 4JP scooter are as follows:
- Maximum length – 1615 mm.
- Maximum width – 630 mm.
- Maximum height – 1000 mm.
- Ground clearance – 100 mm.
The dry weight of the case is 61 kg, which is an extremely low figure among “classmates”. The wheelbase size is 1135 mm. Maximum load capacity is about 150 kg. The scooter is not a two-seater, so it is extremely inconvenient to carry a passenger with you.
Differences between the Yamaha Jog APRIO 4LV and the 4JP model
The 4LV and 4JP models do not have any noticeable external or technical differences between themselves; they have different frame numbers to indicate the year of manufacture. Both designations imply the same inexpensive and reliable scooter produced by a global manufacturer. The scooters are equipped with the latest ignition system. The first models were equipped with the most reliable 3KJ engine in the world, on the basis of which a prototype was later created, but it is not so highly reliable.
On the left in the photo is the Yamaha Jog APRIO frame model 4JP, on the right is the 4LV model
The scooters also differ from the rest of the line in electronics: the limit in Aprio is set at 60 km/h, which would seem to be mortally low, but this became the reason for the development of many tuning elements that increase power.
The presented model is associated with the installation of the switch and other additional parts. Aprio can be compared with the Lets line from the manufacturer Suzuki, because they were also aimed at comfortable and maneuverable movement around the city, but had an electronic limiter.
Scooter tuning using the example of Yamaha Jog
The idea of making your favorite scooter go faster and more dynamically than what the designers intended for it comes to mind for almost every new scooter rider.
And this makes sense, because... The power reserve provides confidence when overtaking, and the maximum speed in the region of 80-100 km/h allows you to avoid the soot of trucks slowly overtaking you on the highway. However, there is a second way out - to buy an initially more powerful device, especially since with the introduction of rights and registration (for now in Moscow), the line between mopeds and equipment that falls under the “motorcycle” category is blurred. Let's try to think a little and calculate the benefits of both the first and second options.
So - first we will proceed from the price, i.e. Let's look at the problem from a financial point of view. Let's see - on average, one of the best scooters for tuning - Yamaha Jog in all variations costs from 15 thousand rubles. until the 21st thousand. Let's take the Artistic (91st year) - 16,000, a relatively simple and well-thought-out tuning (for example, described below) will cost about 14 thousand (with a labor cost of 17), the arithmetic is simple - for a tuning device, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and with double the dynamics you will have to pay 29,000, i.e. about 1000 dollars. At the same time, you have a fairly original device, the appearance of which, if desired, can be left unchanged and avoid possible quibbles from the traffic police. The quibbles are explained as follows: roughly speaking, such a device is not subject to registration at all, because changes are made to the standard design, and you already find yourself in an illegal position (formally). However, we shouldn’t expect much zeal from our valiant road services just yet.
The second option is weaving, for example Honda Lead 90, Suzuki Address V100, Yamaha Axis 90 . These scooters are already larger, heavier, more comfortable and more powerful. However, the engines of Japanese hundred parts are slightly derated, and for their volume they produce relatively little power (about 8-10 horses); the weight of the cars also plays a role. Maximum speed – 80-90 km/h. And let's return to the price - from 34 tr. in Moscow for a “fresh” device from 90-96. release. Here's the arithmetic - the dry residue when choosing tuning versus one hundred square meters is 5 thousand rubles, for this amount you can buy 25 liters of 2T oil or about 300 liters of gasoline (well, or 125 liters of beer, for example).
We've sorted out the numbers, now let's look at the purely technical side. The tuning path offers many opportunities and at the same time many pitfalls - incorrectly carried out tuning of a scooter may not yield anything at all, this requires a sober approach to the matter and good theoretical preparation. At the same time, the result can surprise and delight. In principle, the “large” scooters described above are much inferior in their characteristics to the “correct” tuning. At the same time, they have an undeniable advantage - an engine operating in the mode intended by the developers has a decent resource and safety margin, and the use of tuning inevitably leads to an increase in loads on engine components and transmission parts, so it is necessary to mention once again the need for a reasonable approach to tune and that the process itself can drag on so much that the final costs often exceed not only the cost of one hundred square meters, but also approach the price of a maxi-scooter.
From all of the above, a simple conclusion follows - it’s up to you, of course, to decide. Therefore, if you need a rocket or want to achieve optimal results at minimal cost, tuning is your choice. If you just need a fast, but without fanaticism, convenient device, then most likely you need a Japanese scooter with a 100 cc engine.
Now, in order to clear the fog a little over the concept of “correct” tuning, let’s share our experience using the example of a Yamaha Jog Artistic Spec produced in 1991 (1).
Let’s say in advance that the approach described below applies specifically to Yamahas with a horizontal engine, which can be tuned more readily than most of its classmates.
Let’s stipulate one condition in advance: before doing everything listed below, you need to make sure that all components and assemblies are in good working order, and you should especially pay attention to the condition of the crankshaft and main bearings, because increasing the load on worn parts will quickly lead to the death of the engine.
The first and most obvious way to achieve the desired result is to increase the engine displacement. From the varied assortment offered by Moscow offices, our choice fell on the cast iron piston Polini Sport class , i.e. almost a standard of increased volume, operating at the same speed. Thus, we get increased returns while preserving resources. A larger volume requires a larger amount of fuel mixture, and, therefore, it is necessary to give the engine more air and gasoline. The solution to this problem on the surface: a low-resistance filter element Malossi Red Sponge (2), installed in a standard air filter box, modification of the air intake pipe (3) and enlargement of the main jet. This can be done in two ways: replacing the jet itself or mechanically enlarging the hole of a standard jet. We strongly advise against using drills and bits - a brilliant solution to the problem was a thread soaked in polishing paste. It is advisable to change the intake valve petals (4) to carbon ones: we selected Polini with a thickness of 0.3 mm. A standard carburetor (14 mm diffuser) is quite sufficient for our purposes, and the purchase of an expensive 17.5 mm carburetor raises certain doubts. The same applies to the switch, which specifically on the Artists does not have a limiter. On other Jog models you may have to change the switch, because... all efforts will simply come up against the rev limit.
Yamaha scooters today
Today, many European and Asian manufacturers are guided by the standards of Yamaha scooters. The most reliable and expensive Korean and Chinese scooters are just analogues of the “Japanese”. The manufacturer has many worthy competitors, but it is still considered that the only more reliable than the Yamaha scooter is the Yamaha scooter. Their innovative activity is amazing; no one else has introduced improvements and new products as often as this company does. And with all this, Yamaha scooters do not break. Yamaha pianos are good, but scooters are perfect.
