Honda NM4 Vultus touring motorcycle model
was presented as a concept in April 2014 at the Osaka Motorcycle Show and Tokyo Motor Show, and went on sale in June of the same year. The motorcycle has a very futuristic design, similar in appearance to the Honda DN-01 model. The reason for creating the Honda NM4 Vultus was the desire of Honda designers to present to the market a unique motorcycle from Japanese anime. By the way, the presentation of the motorcycle also took place at the largest show in Europe, London Comic Con, dedicated to comics, anime and everything connected with them. This fact is symbolic and once again emphasizes the concept and main idea of the motorcycle.
The model also has a name - Honda NC700JD
.
In the North American market, the model was sold under the name Honda NM4
(without the Vultus prefix).
Despite its unique design, the Honda NM4 Vultus is not a truly unique motorcycle. It is based on the Honda NC 750 platform, with the same engine, DCT automatic transmission and chassis. The model is focused on sales in Asia and North America.
The engine of the Honda NM4 Vultus is an inline 2-cylinder liquid-cooled unit with a capacity of 745 cc. see, producing 54 hp. and 68 Nm of torque. Maximum performance at 4750-6250 rpm. Models for the USA were equipped with an engine from the NC700, with a volume of 669 cm³ and a maximum power of 50 hp.
Other features of the Honda NM4 Vultus include a steel tubular frame, a 6-speed automatic transmission with two DCT clutches, a chain drive and simple suspension in the form of a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock absorber.
Main modifications of Honda NM4 (Vultus):
- Honda NM4-01
is the regular version of the motorcycle. - Honda NM4-02
- touring version with plastic side cases.
In 2021, the Honda NM4 Vultus model has undergone minor changes, affecting the settings of the DCT box and the appearance of a new exhaust system.
2018 was the last year of production of the model, after which it left the market and did not receive further development.

Chassis and brakes
The frame of the NM 4 Vultus is made of steel. This is a tubular body with a spectacular massive front. Wind protection, by the way, is also quite good. A stylish steering wheel and alloy wheels complete the image of a futuristic motorcycle that looks like it came straight out of the pages of a science fiction blockbuster.
The rear suspension is pendulum, equipped with a monoshock absorber. At the front, it's a 43mm telescopic fork. The NM 4 Vultus is braked by a 240 mm rear disc with a two-piston caliper and a 320 mm front disc with a two-piston caliper. ABS may be available.
In summary
The NM4 appears to finally consummate the long-standing efforts of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer toward designing motorcycles with greater ease-of-use so it can attract to a new generation of rider considering two-wheels for its low cost-of-ownership ( primarily fuel consumption) and the ability of a narrow-track vehicle with a small footprint to ride through the ever-increasing traffic congestion on our roads.
Clarification re the name of the Vultus NM4
Announced at the Osaka Motorcycle Show, the press materials from different arms of the Honda empire appear to be conflicting about what to expect. Honda Europe has announced the Vultus as being produced only in black, while Honda's Japanese headquarters is referring to the bikes as different models, dubbed NM4-1 and NM4-2 respectively, with one presented in pearlescent white and coming standard with integrated panniers in the rear.
Gizmag's Stephen Clemenger attended the Tokyo Motorcycle Show last weekend and reported that the name Vultus was not used by Honda in any context – all references to the bike were the black NM4-1 and white NM4-2.
Though Honda Japan is touting the bikes as different versions, the integration of carrying capacity appears to be the major, indeed, the only difference, and panniers will be optional on the all-black Vultus anyway. The images of the white prototype may hence be of a machine which doesn't carry the name Vultus when it appears.

In March of this year, Japanese Honda Motor presented its new motorcycle called NM4 at a motorcycle exhibition in Osaka. Less than six months have passed since the first clients, although for now we are only talking about clients in the USA, began to receive their motorcycles.
Motorcycle portal Motonews.ru presents to your attention a review article about Batman's new motorcycle - Honda NM4. ))
The NM4 motorcycle itself was developed under the slogans “neo-futuristic” and “cool”. Therefore, the bike turned out to be in a new, unique style, just like from a Japanese anime. One of the most popular colors is Mat Ballistic Black Metallic; at the presentation, Honda also presented a Pearl Glare White option.
Of course, it can be argued that the new Honda NM4 is a continuation of the history of the DN-01, because the NM4, like the DN-01, received an automatic transmission, however, in the development of the NM4, Japanese Honda took a step forward, because the DN model was equipped with a CVT transmission, and the new motorcycle has a dual-clutch transmission DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).
The Honda NM4 gets the same 670cc engine and frame as the Honda NC700X and CTX700, but the NM4 has a new subframe. The wheels of the new Honda NM4 are 18-inch, with the rear ones being 200mm wide. The device, according to many new NM4 owners, has a very low center of gravity.
Honda NM4 allows you to use two modes: D - Drive and S for Sport. Here everything is as usual, in the “Drive” mode the motorcycle quickly switches from gear to gear, and in the “Sport” mode it takes each gear almost to the limit, offering maximum acceleration.
In addition to the unusual design and innovations described above, the Honda NM4 has a number of unusual details.
For example, the passenger seat can turn into a backrest for the driver. And the dashboard can change its color, and you yourself configure your color preferences for each mode. There are a total of 26 options available. According to owners, it’s something special to watch the dashboard change color to red when switching to “Sport” mode. In addition, the Honda NM4 has four containers for all sorts of small things - two compartments in the front and two in the back. The front ones can easily fit a bottle of water, warm gloves or an iPhone6. In addition, one of the front drawers has a port for charging mobile devices, this compartment is also locked, while the other opens by pressing its lid. The two rear panniers can also be locked, but you'll be surprised they are smaller than you might imagine and smaller than they look from the outside. They can hold no more than a bottle of water, shawarma and a bag of chips.
The price of a Honda NM4 motorcycle in the USA starts at $11,000. The NM4's closest competitor may be the BMW C600 Sport, which costs about $9,500 in the United States, but you have to admit that compared to the NM4, the C600 looks a little simpler. It is still unclear whether the Honda NM4 motorcycle will appear in Russia...

Summary
Among the advantages of the X4 are its attractive appearance, excellent acceleration dynamics, excellent engine life, high ground clearance;
Among the disadvantages are the small volume of the fuel tank, insufficient brake efficiency, and large unsprung masses. The attempts of the Japanese concern Honda X4 to create a competitor to the V-Max can be considered successful: the X4 model, although it lags behind Yamaha in technical characteristics, has gained no less popularity due to its attractive design, excellent dynamics and good handling. Despite its shortcomings, the bike is still considered one of the most popular.
