First, a thought is born (I think somewhere deep, in the left hemisphere)))…) and does not give you peace either at night or during the day! You can’t sleep peacefully (even at low temperatures))) or concentrate on work! This thought does not leave you, it blocks and eclipses all other thoughts. All! If you manage to think about something, then only in parallel with it! And she keeps gnawing at you and gnawing at you! Getting stronger and stronger! Eating your brain, crawling from the left hemisphere to the right, it paralyzes your consciousness and normal functioning. And it becomes clearer, clearer and more beautiful. Homemade wheel in the Urals

That’s why you see (and quite often) Ural motorcycles with homemade wheels, where instead of wire spokes, either metal strips or rods or pieces of water pipes are welded on. But again, the one who says that the wheel of an “IZh” or, say, a “Minsk” does not care about any roads will be mistaken. Take my word for it, even these seemingly strong products fall apart. The whole question is on what roads and under what conditions the motorcycle is used. Alexey Garagashyan, who has gone through all imaginable and unimaginable types of off-road, shares his experience of creating wheels designed for any load and many times superior to classic (domestic, of course) wheels in strength.

Welded homemade wheels in the Urals have high rigidity due to the lack of movement of the rim and hub, thanks to the high elasticity of the parts that make them up. Strength is ensured by high-quality welding of all parts and a sufficient cross-section of the spokes. Welding on the jig eliminates axial runout of the rim, and the same length of the spokes eliminates radial runout. The rim for making homemade wheels must be new and undamaged. The jig for individual production of homemade wheels is very simple. This is an axle with an M10-M 12 thread, mounted on a perfectly flat plate, which can be a piece of a large channel, a beam, etc. A steel hub (without bearings) is put on the axle with the same lateral clearance and pulled to the plate with a nut through a washer. If necessary, a lining is placed under the hub to ensure its axial displacement relative to the rim. Here it is necessary to ensure that the hub axis is perpendicular to the plane of the slab. Then the rim is laid on the slab so that its center coincides with the center of the hub (measured with a ruler); if necessary, shims are installed under the rim. After this, it is tacked at points in 5-10 places either to the plate or to the pads welded to the plate. Once again I want to note that the rim must initially be perfectly accurate.

I bring to your attention a small photoset of how the M1 Valentino Rossi 2008 was made from a simple R1 2006. The price of all this joy comes to about 4500 Euros...

Engine tuning

Tuning the Dnepr engine is caused by defects in the ignition and fuel systems. The first is corrected by installing electronics and a carburetor from a VAZ 2106 , the second is by replacing the standard centrifuge with an oil filter.

In the latter case, it is desirable to install additional oil channels, which entails altering the automobile oil pump. To create the pump housing, a metal blank is machined into which a cavity for the gears and axial holes are machined. Next, the fittings are cut in.

An adapter for the filter is also made independently. It contains two pressure reducing valves:

This system allows for trouble-free lubrication of all elements with purified oil.

Improving operational and technical characteristics

Roll insulation: soft and self-adhesive, plate or rolls, thermal insulation for walls 150 mm, types and properties of thermal insulation materials

Tuning a motorcycle engine on your own is almost impossible. This will require unique parts and extensive experience. Therefore, in most cases, such motorcycle tuning consists of completely replacing the standard engine with a forced one. And this work can only be carried out at enterprises that have the appropriate permit, because they directly affect the safety of the vehicle.

Motorcycle tuning related to improving performance can be done independently. Additional elements for this can be purchased at a motorcycle store or made with your own hands. Motorcyclists who travel a lot usually lack space to store their belongings. For this purpose, trunks are installed. They come in fabric, plastic and leather. At the location of attachment - central and side. To ensure a comfortable ride in cold weather, motorcycle tuning involves installing heated steering grips. At first glance, a minor change brings great benefits to the rider in controlling the bike. Installing additional fender liners will allow you to drive in rainy weather and off-road without fear that the passenger's back will be splashed with mud.

Increasing engine power!

Increasing engine power!

Methods for increasing engine power can be divided into “superficial” and “global methods”.

Superficial methods for increasing engine power, as a rule, do not require a major reconstruction of the unit, but only involve modification of its individual parts.

Global methods involve a major change in the engine, which requires special, professional intervention.

The first option is to increase engine power. This method is classified as “superficial” methods of influencing the engine,” and its essence is to reduce the resistance of the air flow entering the fuel supply system. In general, instead of a conventional air filter, filters are installed, as they say, of “zero resistance,” thereby ensuring that the air flow enters the combustion chamber of the engine with the least loss.

The second option is to increase engine power. Its essence is to accelerate the emissions of exhaust gas from the combustion chamber of the engine. This is achieved by replacing the “stock” exhaust manifold with a manifold, popularly called a “spider”. A “spider” is a name given to a certain type of exhaust manifold.

Traditionally, together with the “spider”, for greater performance, they use a straight exhaust pipe, which is called a “route” or “direct flow”. “Route” is a channel for moving the flow of exhaust gases, made of a pipe with a diameter slightly higher than the diameter of a conventional exhaust line, starting from the “spider”, and, bypassing the resonator with a muffler, ends exactly at the site of this muffler. The pre-existing highway is, of course, removed. It should also be said that when using the first two methods of increasing engine power, you provide the car engine with a device that allows you to save gasoline.

The third option for increasing engine power is to increase the supply of fuel to the combustion chamber of the engine. This method can significantly add power to the engine, but the disadvantage is an increase in fuel consumption. Its essence is to increase the fuel jets (in carburetor-type engines) or “reflash” the injector (for injection engines) - “chip tuning”.

This method, as practice shows, negatively affects the working life of the motor, and in this case, you should forget about increasing the life of the motor forever.

The fifth option for increasing engine power is to increase the compression ratio within the engine combustion chamber. To increase the efficiency of using fuel mixtures, the compression ratio within the combustion chamber is increased. A similar effect is achieved when the surface of the cylinder heads is modified, thereby reducing the combustion chamber.

Also, in order to increase engine power in this way, the “cams” on the camshaft of the cylinder heads are processed so that the duration of opening of the intake valve of each cylinder becomes longer, thus ensuring that a larger amount of the fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber of the engine. This method allows you to significantly increase engine power, while ensuring a noticeable reduction in fuel costs.

Moto tuning → Tuned Kawasaki ZX-14R Tribal bike – Roaring Toyz

Roaring Toyz specialists, led by former racer Robert Fisher, are world famous for high-quality tuning of sports motorcycles. They love to modify modern bikes, making them more powerful and faster. For example, Kawasaki ZX-14R (ZZR1400) Tribal. By tradition, the Roaring Toyz team tried to make something unique and unusual, although the corporate style, of course, can be seen: power, muscular and aggressive design, fiery airbrushing. Unfortunately, there are no detailed specifications of the motorcycle, but without a doubt, the work done was insane. Every little thing, every detail is thought out and in its place.

Moto tuning → Tuned motorcycle Ducati Monster MS4R 2007

Abroad, choosing a used motorcycle is extremely simple: there is a lot of equipment, but it costs a penny. Thus, if desired, anyone can try their hand at customizing without much damage to their pocket. Ducati Monster motorcycles have been produced for 20 years, so there are plenty of donors, and Italian bikes always look cool regardless of the year of production. In addition, some companies and specialists produce special kits for upgrading the Ducati Monster, which greatly simplifies tuning/customizing the motorcycle. One day, Canadian enthusiast Nelson Gonsalves saw the MS4R kit designed by Paolo Tesio and bought it for his Ducati.

Types and possibilities of tuning

Almost every bike owner eventually comes to the desire to make his motorcycle unique and convenient for everyday use. You can bring this to life in different ways. Some people purchase special kits consisting of linings, deflectors, moldings, and do the tuning of the motorcycle with their own hands. It’s easy to do this kind of work yourself in your garage. But to carry out modifications to increase engine power or improve safety systems, it is better to entrust them to specialists and carry them out in specialized workshops.

For both cars and motorcycles, tuning can be cosmetic, technical or combined. Each type involves a specific set of work.

Cosmetic work

This type of motorcycle tuning is also called appearance restyling. It is often carried out on motorcycles that have been in use for a long time, that is, more than 5 years. During this time, the paintwork fades or is damaged as a result of falls and the bike loses its external luster. And it’s worth a lot for a motorcycle.

Cosmetic work

The simplest option is to simply repaint or restore the damaged coating. But you can approach this process creatively and make motorcycle tuning. To do this, airbrushing is applied to the gas tank or plastic parts. It is better to entrust such work to specialists. You can cover some parts with vinyl film yourself. This will give the motorcycle a stylish look.

By using neon lighting, they make the bike unique. After all, not a single production motorcycle is produced in such a configuration. However, you should remember that you need to purchase the backlight as a complete set: with an ignition unit and a color control panel. By performing motorcycle tuning in this way, you can get an absolutely unique bike.

External tuning: make your bike special!

In the evenings, especially on Friday and Saturday, the roar of engines and the smell of burnt rubber fills the city streets. Guys celebrate the end of the work week with grabs. Or, for those who are more relaxed, gatherings in open cafes on the embankment with their girls. Somewhere there are two or three motorcycles, and somewhere up to a dozen or more. Passing onlookers and walking couples often look at the equipment with interest and note that the motorcycles of these guys are very different from the factory ones. Each has its own zest. Soul…

For these guys, a motorcycle is primarily about individuality and self-expression. They are ready to spend hours discussing new gadgets, saving money for months for exclusive tuning, and waiting weeks for its delivery from a popular American online auction. That is why motorcycles are so different from standard ones, and so pleasing to the eye of a connoisseur. Having talked with just such “street racers”, I want to clarify what motorcycle tuning is now.

This article will, for starters, be about minor external tuning, the so-called “tricks” that allow you to slightly customize the bike to suit you, also improving its appearance. The most accessible, and at the same time the most “bright” type of tuning for an outside viewer. This is something that is worth purchasing literally in the first days after purchasing a motorcycle.

So, let's begin.. Mirrors: Quite a popular tuning object. Moreover, mirrors, as a protruding, fragile element of a motorcycle’s design, are likely to fail if the motorcycle falls. When going to the store for a new set of mirrors, you need to understand the purpose of the replacement. If mirrors are purchased to increase functionality and visibility for the rider on the road, then you should pay attention to models with spherical mirrors and extended holders. An interesting detail will be the built-in turn signal repeaters, which will certainly add safety on the road. However, it may be difficult to connect the wires, especially if the bike is wrapped in a tight body kit. If you think about design, there is also room for imagination. Mirrors can be very interesting in shape and design, which will add charm to the motorcycle. Starting from tiny “ears” for sportbikes, and ending with gothic forged mirrors for custom ones. However, it is important that at least some minimal functionality is maintained. Beauty requires sacrifice, but still...

Lighting technology: The light of a motorcycle must be bright and reliable. Safety directly depends on this. Some time ago, motorcycle manufacturers began switching to LED brake lights and turn signals in their new models. However, if your motorcycle is not one of them, you should take a look at tuning. After all, LED optics last much longer, shine brighter, and consume less energy. Fortunately, there is now a wide selection of lighting equipment for almost any motorcycle.

Practical advice: you should give preference to button turn signals, because in case of a fall they will protect the plastic of the bike. Or, at least, they won’t damage it themselves, unlike turn signals “on a leg”, which can, like a lever, break out a piece of the body kit.

Interesting options for integrated brake lights and turn signals. This allows you to “kill two birds with one stone”: to unload the tail part of the bike from everything unnecessary, and allows you not to bother with dismantling the turn signals during amateur track competitions - it will be enough to tape the brake light. The xenon headlight stands out. You can install xenon for low beam. Better - bi-xenon (xenon for low and high beam).

When installing xenon, simply replacing the lamp is not enough. The xenon lamp works with its own power supply, which generates a 25 kV pulse. You need to find a place for this block, approximately the size of a wallet. If there are two headlights on a motorcycle, then two blocks are needed. What is important is that the xenon lamp has a delay when turned on, several seconds, after which it warms up to maximum brightness within 10 seconds. It must be taken into account that the reaction of light is not instantaneous. The cost of a xenon lamp is about 20-40 USD. (while halogen is 2-5 cu.) And the entire installation kit will cost from 80 for the simplest xenon, to 300 dollars for bi-xenon from a well-known company, like Hella or Philips.

An interesting tuning option would be strobes. This is officially prohibited in our country, but few people are stopped by administrative barriers. But visibility on the road increases significantly. For really “showmen”, you can install neon lighting for the underbody (or engine - in custom cars). When shooting through the city at night, you will be guaranteed attention.

Crash protectors: So-called “crashpads” or sliders. A very necessary thing, especially for riders who are not burdened with experience. Although no one is immune from mistakes, just like from subsequent falls and expensive repairs. If you have an accident at a high speed, you should no longer think about the motorcycle, but about yourself. But in case of annoying falls on the spot, or low speed, scratched plastic or engine can cause great disappointment. But, protecting a motorcycle from this is quite easy. They install the main crash pads on the sides of the motorcycle, as well as a large number of pads on everything possible: steering weights, front and rear axles, crankcase cover, surface of the side muffler. Often the bobbins have a rather bright aggressive look and add “points” to the motorcycle.

Advice: buy sliders from well-known companies, from official dealers. In the case of a low-quality slider, in the event of an accident, the consequences will be worse than without it at all.

Seat: Quite an interesting component from a style point of view. And very important for the pilot. After all, the seat, along with the handles, is something that is constantly in contact with the rider. If the motorcycle is used for everyday trips or traveling several thousand kilometers on weekends, then you should think about comfort. If the motorcycle is intended for the track, then the main thing is that the seat does not interfere with actively transferring the body weight. An exclusive saddle ordered from the workshop, with a stylish color scheme or artistic embossing, can make you a trendsetter in your crowd.

Steering wheels, handles, levers: Handles are essentially a pilot's working tool. And they should be comfortable - that's the main thing. Tourists will be interested in heated handles. For “racers,” there are handles with unusually high grip properties. There are a lot of offers on the market, however, apart from the above-mentioned options, everything else is a palette of manufacturers, colors, materials that do not differ in anything in essence. A very popular tuning part is brake and clutch levers. There are a lot of offers, you just need to choose the color and shape. The racing levers are separate. They are short, less prone to damage, and highly customizable. Next is the steering wheel, or clip-ons. There are different steering wheels, and you should choose them specifically for yourself based on shape, inclination, height, and color. With clip-ons the situation is a little more complicated. Cheaper models allow you to change handles. In more expensive options, you can also adjust the angle of the handles (for example, for a track). And for long trips, clip-ons curved upward, like on classic steering wheels, are useful.

Adjustable footpegs and brake/gearbox levers: The best option is to buy tuning adjustable footpegs, ideally racing ones. Racing ones have a number of significant advantages. Firstly, the brake and gearbox levers are mounted on bearings. Secondly, they have a very wide range of height and position adjustments. This allows you to accurately adjust their position to suit you and your goals. Thirdly, the grip of such footpegs with motorcycle boots is much better than others, thanks to their special texture with notches. They also act as an additional crash protector. And, besides, they look great, especially if you choose a bright color.

Practical advice: before ordering racing pegs from a particular company, ask if they have a brake light activation mechanism. Some racing models do not have this by design.

Glass: Windshield offerings are very diverse. Stock glass can be replaced in any color and degree of transparency. The most popular glasses are “flasks”. These glasses are the same length as standard ones, but are more convex. They divert air flow much better, and at the same time, do not create additional resistance. Another direction is tourist glass. Their shape is identical to the stock ones, but the length is longer. This allows the rider to be protected as much as possible from wind and bad weather, without worrying too much about aerodynamics. In addition, there are a number of intermediate options that allow you to choose glass specifically for your tasks and preferences.

Under the approving cries of friends, you can leave the parking lot. The first brick has been laid. Next there will be more - Airbrushing... Tuning of direct-flow mufflers that break the silence of the night, and discussion of such words that caress the ear of every rider like “Akrapovich”, “Arrov”, “Leo-Vince”.. Refinement of the engine to extract maximum power... Tuning of suspensions, for the sake of stability in urban time trials, and their fine tuning. Perhaps, after tens of thousands of kilometers of attempts to goat, you will start to succeed in a couple of stunt chips, and you will need to remake the motorcycle for the stunt. All this for the pleasure of rushing along the night avenue, forgetting about everyone, faster than the wind. Or seducing another beauty at the bar. Do what you want... There are no rules! Just get the most out of the bike, take everything from life! But that's another story... Stay tuned for future articles!

Internal tuning of domestically produced motorcycles

If we are talking about Soviet or Russian motorcycles, then achieving any serious improvements without completely replacing the engine will not be easy. However, some masters take on such a task. The essence of their work is that they are trying to reduce unnecessary fuel losses during engine operation. To do this, the oil is changed and its level is subsequently regularly monitored. This allows you to reduce friction in mechanisms, which quite significantly “eats” power. If necessary, some friction units are replaced. The chain drive is also subject to technical inspection. To avoid loss of power, it is also recommended to maintain optimal tire pressure.

One of the most effective ways to increase engine efficiency is to clean the cylinder, the quality of the filling of which also determines a lot. All channels through which fuel and air move must be free of contamination. However, you shouldn’t be zealous - the trajectories of movement of both components of the motorcycle’s future food should remain the same.

A straight-through muffler on a bike is a complete nonsense. If you don't want the whole city to hate you, don't be tempted to install this product. As a result, you will spend money on a muffler, on its installation, on gasoline, the consumption of which will immediately increase sharply, and, possibly, on paying fines for violating noise standards.

All the changes described above will, of course, affect the operation of the motorcycle, but the technical characteristics will improve slightly. Adding power and speed to a bike is only possible by replacing the engine. Reinstalling the carburetor can be a kind of half-measure on this path.

Improvement of security systems

Motorcycle tuning in this area includes installing feedback alarms, immobilizers and brake disc locks. Based on the fact that motorcycles are the most stolen type of vehicle, it is recommended to use an original alarm system with a location sensor.

Locking the wheels will allow you to leave your bike on the street for a short time without fear. Statistics show that brightly tuned motorcycles are stolen less often. So it would be useful to bring it into this form.

Moto tuning → Tuned bike Triumph Thruxton 2004

The Triumph Thruxton is a motorcycle that looks great even in stock form, but is still often subject to modernization. For the most part, tuning a Triumph Thruxton comes down to easily perfecting all sorts of little things, since in the basic version the serial cafe racer is almost perfect. This Triumph Thruxton is the work of the Speed Merchant team of mechanics from Southern California. They specialize in producing parts for Triumph motorcycles and the late model Sportster. The latest project of the masters was inspired by vintage street trackers with a mixture of modern trends.

Modern Girder type fork

Often, customizers use four types of forks when creating their motorcycles: “Glide”, hydraulic, “Springer” and “Girder”. The first three are used most often and are already boring. has developed a modern “Girder” type fork with good performance parameters. In December 2009, RCC purchased the intellectual property regarding forks and other parts from . Based on that knowledge, they created the modern “Girder” fork. It is designed not just for regular chopper-like customs, but also for more sporty motorcycles. All metal parts are made of high quality 6061 T6 aluminum alloy with micrometer precision.

Blog named after AlexRomantic → Steam motorcycle

Episode 3 We managed to make a really working engine. Of course, due to the fact that there is almost no equipment and everything has to be done simply by hand, there are many small imperfections, but it works. And I didn’t even think that such a small engine would have so much power. After a few minutes of work, the parts got used to it (break-in) and the engine started and ran just fine. But, these are still tests in air from a compressor. Now you need to try it all out as a couple. Well, I think no matter what problems we encounter along the way, we can always redo and rebuild everything. In the meantime, let's enjoy the work of our little steam engine.

Increasing the power of a production motorcycle

The power potential built into a Japanese or Italian sportbike by the manufacturer is considerable, and it is enough for the eyes even without engine tuning. But the same manufacturer often limits the power rating of a serial engine. If you are tired of our dead roads and decide to go to the track and drop the speedometer needle at 200 km/h, but to your surprise you discover that the bike begins to “sneeze” at just 180, then your device has a factory throttle and it’s time to get rid of it from her.

Before disassembling the motorcycle to find the evil choke, let’s first figure out what they are and on what principle they work. In general, why is this done by the manufacturer, who, in principle, must work and fight for every horse from the herd of power, and what is a strangled motorcycle? This is a bike that, in order to adapt to the requirements of the road legislation of some countries, is either deprived of part of the power built into the engine by the designers, or is equipped with a maximum speed limiting device. But it’s not uncommon to use both.

But that's not all. Typically, motorcycle factories do not limit themselves to installing restrictors alone in the intake pipes. Often on sports cars, for example on the Honda CBR1000RR, the throughput of the exhaust system is specially reduced, and in addition there is also a standard catalyst, which also takes a lot of power. A strangled muffler is visible to the naked eye: the outlet holes of the strangled can are narrower than the holes of a normal or tuning muffler. You can work on the strangled can and remove the partitions (I recommend reading about a normal muffler here). But there is also a more expensive option: replace the muffler with a native full-breathing one (they are made for loyal countries) or buy a tuning forward flow, of which there are quite a few on sale now.

There are, in my opinion, the most interesting electronic engine throttles. The simplest ones are implemented in some Japanese motorcycles of small and medium cubic capacity. This harmful problem is a plate to which the contact of the speedometer needle closes when the digital value of 180 km/h is reached. As a result, the signal received from the closure of the arrow is sent to the control unit (in other words, the brains) of the motorcycle, and the unit cuts off one of the ignition coils, that is, two of the four cylinders. I’m amazed that they will come up with such crap at the factory, but we think that factory engineers are fighting for every horse.

There are several ways to get rid of this scourge. The first and simplest is to break off the plate, but it can be rolled, as on the Kawasaki ZXR750R, for example, and if you try to break the plate, you can unscrew the device, but it is expensive. Try to do what I did on one of the motorcycles: at the point of contact of the arrow with the plate, I covered the plate with a thin layer of epoxy glue, and as you know, glue or varnish is a dielectric, and naturally the contact and signal disappeared. But here you will also need to grind off the thrust contact on the arrow or bend it, otherwise at 180 km/h it will rest against the plate and will not show a higher speed. On some models, you can easily get to the wire that is soldered to the restrictor plate and unsolder it, and now when the arrow is connected to the plate, the signal will not go to the brain. You can also deceive electronics with the help of special chips that appear on sale, and installing a purchased chip is not difficult, since the kit often contains a simple connection diagram.
