Yamaha XVZ1300TF Royal Star Venture begins its history with 1999. The company released it as a successor to the luxury tourer XVZ1300D Venture Royale. However, many people tend to start counting from 1997. This year comes the Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe ( XVZ1300LT). However, it is worth noting that this model is intermediate. She has both the features of her predecessor and the features of the “Star”.
Without going into too much comparison, the Tour Deluxe is a stripped-down, cheaper version of the Venture.
This is what Honda did at one time. The hatch version is Gold Wing , and the stripped-down version is Pan European .
Venture was released until 2013 . In 2021, the concern announced the revival of the model, but as usually happens, the new product receives a different engine, components and is assembled based on a completely different version.
Specifications
The bike's engine was not updated. He received it entirely from his predecessor.
The engine has good acceleration dynamics due to its enormous torque.
It was a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine with a V-piston arrangement:
- working volume - 1294 cm3;
- power - 97 hp;
- number of valves - 16 (4 per cylinder);
- cooling - liquid;
- fuel supply - Mikuni carburetor;
- ignition - transistor;
- start - electric starter;
- tank volume - 22 l.
According to owner reviews, it is better to use AI-92 . At 95, the consumption is a little less, it drives faster, but at the same time it rings slightly. Mechanics claim that this is not a problem, it’s just the way the motor is.
Transmission and clutch
The motorcycle received a 5-speed gearbox. There is no back one.
The gear shift paddle is located directly above the comfortable and wide footrest.
The switching foot was made huge; for the average user, the first one can be turned on with the toe, the rest with the heel. Shifting is clear , gears are found immediately, the number reserve is large, the switching point is not critical.
The clutch force is overloaded by hydraulics. The owners believe that it is because of this that the handle works poorly. It itself is standard - multi-disc, oil bath .
The main drive is a cardan .
Brakes
Front brakes are double disc, rear brakes are single disc. According to owners' reviews, the braking system as a whole is rather weak for a 400-kilogram “monster”.
Perhaps this was influenced by the appearance of the Tour Deluxe, but according to the owners, the model’s rear brake is simply excellent . Although, apart from the 4-piston caliper on it, there are no other differences in the design.
Front: brakes:
- number of disks - 2;
- diameter - 298 mm ;
- support - 2-piston .
Rear brakes:
- number of disks - 1;
- diameter - 320 mm;
- support - 4-piston.
The model did not provide any options. Those who wished could put Nissin instead of their relatives.
Driving performance,
The developers indicated a maximum speed of 195 km/h.
The owners note that despite the impressive weight (almost 400 kg loaded), it is quite possible to achieve the declared speed. True, they note that in this case it is better not to overload.
Acceleration to hundreds
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h - 5.5 seconds .
Fuel consumption
Fuel consumption - up to 7 liters per 100 km . According to estimates, on the highway you can reduce it to 6 liters, in the city it rises to 8–9 liters.
Dimensions and weight
Yamaha XVZ 1300 TF is a heavy motorcycle, absolutely not suitable for beginners.
Based on all of the above, the most interesting question arises, posed in the title. Curb weight, with all fluids and a full tank - 394 kg.
The dimensions are no less impressive:
- length - 2,706 mm;
- width - 901 mm;
- height - 1,566 mm;
- on the saddle - 750 mm.
Wheelbase - 1,705 mm .
For whom is it intended?
A low saddle, limited in size, means that the purchase can only be considered for people of short and medium height.
The upright position and comfortable seat allow you to cover hundreds of kilometers without stopping.
However, according to high users, it is even more convenient for them to ride. If you move your legs forward, the shin guards provide perfect coverage even in the dirtiest situations.
What do the owners say?
Based on the experience of those who have been using this bike for years, there are no problems with maintenance. Spare parts are easy to obtain, and equipment does not break down often. Both from the photo and video it is clear that the bike is well suited for riding by two. Owner reviews confirm this.
Some believe that the passenger seat is no less comfortable than the driver's seat. Others believe that the driver's seat is even less comfortable. Yes, perhaps the passenger seat here looks like a small chair.
One review noted that the bike, despite its dimensions, maneuvers well. But, of course, the maneuverability of this model is compared with other tourers. Such equipment can never compare even with road motorcycles in this aspect.
!Important: it is noted that this specimen does not withstand off-road conditions. But this cannot be attributed to objective shortcomings, because tourers, in principle, are not designed for this. According to the description of those who have been traveling on touring models for a long time, the car is stable in a variety of conditions. But it requires an asphalt road. And when choosing a route, it is important not to forget about this.
If you need an off-road bike, we advise you to pay attention to touring enduros, especially models from Honda; among these there are decent specimens that are capable of covering considerable distances not only on roads, but also over rough terrain.
The XVZ 1300 Royal Star Venture is an interesting model for those who need a reliable touring bike. Among other advantages, it is worth noting convenience. The capacity of the containers makes traveling easier.
Modifications
“Zvezda” has three modifications, but they differ only cosmetically, as well as in some details that require the legislation of export countries. It is worth noting that the model was not supplied to the domestic market.
- In 1999, assembly of the main modification began.
- In 2002, Midnight Venture was released . The model is made in black tones, and there is a row of rivets along the seats. No benefit - cosmetics.
- In 2006, Venture S model appeared . Since it is being developed for America, it receives a chrome package. It will be supplied to Europe only in 2010.
Production of the black model was discontinued in 2008. The main one was in 2011. Until the end of 2013, only the S modification .
Competitors
Honda CTX 1300.
Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan.
Apart from the own stripped-down development of the Tour Deluxe, the following models were competitors in the Yamaha Royal Star Venture tourist class.
Honda CTX1300 . Among the features:
- upside-down fork and two shock absorbers at the rear;
- combi-brakes and ABS;
- traction control.
Smaller tank and engine capacity, injector, Started in 2014, ended in 2021.
Honda VTX1300T . Had:
- 2-cylinder;
- 6 valves (3 per cylinder)
- more than 1300 cubes;
- 6-speed gearbox.
Modification T had platforms for legs, side trunks, and a backrest for the second number. Started in 2008, ended in 2009.
the Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan is also sometimes included in the comparison . But:
- engine of a different cubic capacity;
- own fuel supply system;
- belt main drive.
And there is a lot of confusion in the modifications - pure, only with a rear case, only with a back, only with side cases (leather) they put it in a different class.
It’s interesting that none of the competitors dared to use such an original and convenient solution instead of a standard saddle. In all presented models, the second number is offered a perch on the rear wing.
Review of the Yamaha XVZ1300TF Royal Star Venture + Yamaha XVZ1300CT Royal Star Tour Deluxe motorcycle
Royal Star Venture.
- Engine. Some people know, others don’t, but the engine is from a V-Max, and some spare parts are also suitable from it. The volume was increased to 1300, the torque was increased, and the maximum speed was reduced. The engine almost doesn't care whether the second number is present or not. The loss in dynamics is felt only when fully loaded. The engine has already been driven for 60 thousand, no one has ever looked into it, it works great, but I would adjust the valves. After synchronizing the carbs, the bike began to work somehow... softer.
- Box. The gearbox is 5 speed. A lot of people ask if there is a reverse gear. She is not and has never been on any Ventura. If you see a car in advertisements, it means they're fucked. Overall I really liked the box. After some time, you find out at what speed the gear shifts softest. Sometimes it’s so smooth that you don’t even feel a click. Shifting occurs with a huge paw, first gear with the toe, the rest with the heel. At first it’s unusual, but then on other motorcycles, out of habit, you try to poke with your heel.
— Clutch. Still, hydraulics are a blessing. Despite this, after the first trip, especially in the cold and through traffic jams, my arm hurt for another week. Over time, of course, I got used to it. The stock clutch basket has some kind of clever radial pressure plate. The valiant company Barnett Clutches came up with a special adapter to bring this design into divine shape. It consists of a plate and 6 small springs, inside of which the fastening bolts pass. In total, this design gives better downforce. In addition, reinforced springs can be installed. They generally promise to be eternal. At first, the left hand won’t come to its senses anymore, but after one season of driving with such a clutch, this hand will be able to crush a metal crowbar. In general, why did I bend this here - the clutch is unlikely to survive to 100 thousand, I will change it to a Barnett one if I don’t sell the bike.
— Suspension. There is a regular fork at the front, not an inverted one, at the rear there is a monoshock. It is possible to adjust the preload using pneumatic inflation, but this is recommended only if you are planning a trip with a full load. In general, the hanger is soft, swallows even large potholes tolerably, and only breaks through a couple of times during the season. One drawback - the oil is poured into the fork 15 - it takes a very long time to warm up in the cold. I manage to drive 10 kilometers before the suspension starts to work smoothly.
— Brakes. There are two discs at the front and one at the rear. People say that Venturas only brake normally on their original pads. Relatives are too expensive, so I installed blue Nissin ones. According to reviews, this is generally the best that can be put here among analogues. As a result, the brakes are simply amazing. You're amazed at how quickly they stop a four-hundred-kilogram cart (plus the rider, sometimes the asshole and luggage).
- Salon. I mean ergonomics and all that. The bike is equipped with just a huge windshield, in the depths of which brains, wiring, speakers are hidden (there are also speakers at the back, by the way) and other tripe. In addition, on the inside there is a factory cigarette lighter and a button to turn on the chandelier. The windshield is very easy to disassemble. In general, after the same Honda PC800, servicing Ventura is simply happiness. The instrument panel is quite laconic. Moreover, the speedometer readings are physically drawn on the panel, but the speedometer scale (which is instead of an arrow) is already digital. In general, the tidy is reminiscent of those that were in the old Volgas and in the kopeck. Old school in short, I really like it. In addition to the speed, the dashboard displays information about mileage, fuel level (fucking, by the way, but you get used to it), there are as many as two tripmeters and a digital clock. On the sides of the speedometer there are warning lamps: turns, check engine, cruise control, oil pressure and, again, a low fuel lamp, which for some reason goes out when the tank is almost dry. It’s funny - the fuel level shows zero, but the lamp doesn’t light up. There are speakers along the edges of the windshield. I installed the standard size Sonya and stuffed a bunch of padding polyester into the windshield (and into the rear speakers too). The sound is more or less decent. In addition, on the instrument panel there is a cruise control button and a cassette recorder (!). Horseradish knows whether it finally works or has rotted for a long time. It seems to me that cassettes have never been shoved into it. By the end of the season, I tore it to pieces and made a glove compartment. And even more useful.
Next, your hands clasp a simply huge steering wheel. I wonder if there are even more on stock motorcycles. You can easily fit between cars. There are a bunch of switches on the steering wheel, on the left everything is as usual, except for the button for talking on the CB station, and on the right they also shoved cruise control and emergency lights. The only thing that bothers me is that I specifically have iron handles with rubber inserts. Hands get very cold when traveling at +15C and below, so heating is required here. And for such a thick steering wheel, Daytona makes it heated and it costs 5600 or so, which is generally a bit expensive for such a device. In general, they could put it in stock on such an expensive motorcycle. Next comes the tank. I have a female girl painted on my tank. The tank seems huge, as much as 24 liters. Enough for about 350 kilometers, in the city about 280. V-4 eats a lot. The minimum on the highway was 5.8 liters per 100 km, in the city about 8. Zhoppa is sitting on a huge sofa. And both driver's and passenger's. The previous owner knows a lot about a comfortable ride at any time of the year and therefore installed Emel's heated seats. Or Emelya 2, go figure it out now. It turns on independently for the driver and passenger. Specifically, to turn it on, I have a Kuriyakin block on the steering wheel, where the brake reservoir is. The backlight of the moto also turns on. Drukh said that you feel like you’re in a frying pan, and the shit is trying to boil away. So it's better not to abuse it. However, I highly recommend it to anyone who drives before the first snow. In addition, the presence of platforms for both the driver and the passenger significantly adds comfort. Plus, I also have Kuriyakin’s additional legs hanging on the arches. In long-distance travel, your legs rest comfortably on them, but you can only use them if you have long legs.
- Luggage compartment. The bike is equipped with side and central cases. The total capacity is who knows how much, but I proudly carry a cart from Auchan, almost completely filled with food, and place everything inside (the skills acquired from playing Tetris also have an effect). In case something doesn’t fit, there is a trunk on the central case, on which you can secure a backpack with a net for a helmet or a rope. Since the motorcycle does not have separate glove compartments, compartments for small items were built into the trunks. Two in the side cases and one large one in the central one. Well, in the left case under the mat there is a compartment for storing tools, where a set of hexagons and a pair of keys will fit. All cases are locked with a key.
- Service. After the plastic world, I really enjoy digging into this bike. Everything is simple and accessible. To replace the spark plugs, however, it is necessary to remove the tank, but this is not a problem, it is secured with three bolts. The rear wheel can only be changed with the right silencer and trunk removed. Antifreeze is added under the saddle, but replacing it completely will require some effort. The prices are quite reasonable. The pads are only a little more expensive than before, about 1500 per set. The pads all around cost 4500. Filters - oil about 400, air about 1500 (there are two of them). Bloodworm oil 7100 20W50. People still pour 5100, it turns out cheaper. It doesn't consume oil, no need to add anything until the next change. Gasoline – I already wrote about consumption. Lew usually uses the 92nd, on the 95th it rings a little, but it drives a little faster and the consumption is a little less. It's better not to pour shitty gasoline. I refueled with lousy gasoline here - the tank was only enough for 250 km on the highway and the motorcycle finally accelerated sluggishly. I reached another, fresh 92nd, and the bike went as it should.
And finally, the general impression of the bike. In general, the bike provides the owner with almost everything that could be required from a two-wheeled friend. On the road it behaves very smoothly, it is easy to control, I have no difficulty driving through traffic jams, only occasionally getting stuck where classics and sports can still squeeze in. Metzeler rubber is simply a miracle of rubber thought. In the rain, it grips the road perfectly, almost does not slip on the markings, it really helped out a couple of times (there was a very unpleasant moment when the Land Rover was slowing down in front and I was frightened and sharply pressed both brakes. Only for a moment did I hear the tires squeaking on the asphalt, then I immediately loosened it a little, followed by a very sharp deceleration, again using the Nissin pads). The pleasant, quiet sound of the mufflers does not wake up your neighbors at night and does not bother you on long trips. The legs are protected from the wind by huge flaps in which air intakes and fuse boxes are hidden. In the event of a slight fall, all this beauty is protected by lame safety arches, both in the front (protecting the shields) and in the rear (around the panniers). A stunningly successful design coupled with airbrushing makes everyone turn around. It’s true that girls don’t show their boobs from car windows, like some of my friends who have a different brand of motorbike))) By the way, about the girls. They fall asleep in the passenger seat, that's a fact. Not just for me, but in general on tourers, on my ex’s Pacifica, on a gold from a guy I know, on an electric train. So the central trunk is needed not only for luggage, but also so as not to lose the passenger. Moreover, they are light, you might not even notice them. It’s boring for them to go there, they need to come up with entertainment for the trip.
There are a few little things that I would like to change. The first is more sane speakers. 10 cm is not enough, but 13 or 15 cm would be just right. The second - as I already said - is heated handles. This can be easily fixed. And thirdly, on a car engine I saw a guy in Ventura, instead of a cassette player, had a slightly modified panel with a built-in navigator. The idea is just great, I want it too. He also had big speakers.
Differences between a Prostov piano and a Ventura piano
1) tank, the tidy has been moved from the tank to the face, the piano has large chimes on the tank and the Ventura has an old-school LCD, the tank is 4 liters larger due to the fact that the Ventura has 2 air vents on the outside and the piano has it under the tank
2) the engine of the Ventura is more vigorous, but it makes a slightly unusual whistling sound; the piano produces it in a smaller speed range and is practically absent, and it seemed to me that the exhaust of the piano sounds more pleasant than that of the Ventura, but this is subjective
3) the piano's shock absorber is horizontal at the bottom and the Ventura's is vertical in the center
4) Ventura has all sorts of tourist horns in stock, like a lot of chumadanov music, but all this can also be installed on the piano, but Ventura’s generator provides 50W more electricity, which in principle is nonsense.
Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe.
Good day to all those who are going to buy or have just bought a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe 05-12, when choosing between motorcycles, there was and remains very scant information on the Internet about this miracle of engineering. I want to tell you about my experience driving this device, all the pros and cons. So let's start with the disadvantages of which there are not so many on this motorcycle:
-the first disadvantage is that it is very inconvenient to pump up the wheels; the valve on the front wheel is directed upwards, so not every pump will fit. And the problem with the rear wheel is that in order to get to the tire, you need to lie down on the ground and reach it, it looks very comical if you are at a tire service, seeing how much work it cost you, the car service workers look at you sympathetically and do not take a penny for pumping .
-The second disadvantage is that the motorcycle is very demanding on timely gear changes, both down and up. But it is worth noting that in all gears it is very assertive and burdensome.
-The third disadvantage is that a couple of beeps in different places on this device are very quiet, so you will have to replace them. (issue price 300 rubles)
-The fourth and significant disadvantage is that this cruiser does not have emergency lights. But there is a way out: buy a kit on a foreign website consisting of a toggle switch for the steering wheel, a relay and wires. And then you can always “Say thank you” to those who missed you.
-Well, fifth, it is very difficult to move in a parking lot, parking lot, you always need to think about how you will drive out and cover the unevenness that may arise when manually rolling. It's a pity that there is no rear one like on the Gold Wing.
Well, now about the positive side of the motorcycle -
Despite its weight of 386 kg, it is very maneuverable on the highway, even at low speed it always stands confidently, a very low center of gravity, ground clearance of approximately 145 mm. I can only compare it with the Ural Voyage, which weighed 170 kilograms but felt terribly heavy and weak. Also, the Royal, thanks to its rear mono shock absorber with pumping and wide wheels, which by the way are wider than on the Gold 1500, does not notice such irregularities as thick road markings found on the highway and ridges. And its side windage is noticeably less than that of Golda.
It protects very well from rain and wind, there was an incident like that on the highway, 600 km away. from home I was caught in a powerful downpour and there was nowhere to hide, but I continued to move at a speed of about 80 km/h and was absolutely dry, both my legs and torso were almost wet. After this I began to appreciate my “Pianinka” even more))
Well, with the electrics, everything is simply top notch, the cruise as standard works very well, that is, on a hill it increases to the set speed from a hill and decreases accordingly, it’s an amazing feeling that the throttle handle is spinning on its own.
The display with a digital arrow is very informative, you can display the time on it, there are also two resettable odometers, and a regular odometer. The strange thing about the digital fuel volume sensor is that up to a quarter of the tank it shows it full, and then only begins to reduce it with six scales to indicate that it is running out. On the remaining quarter of the tank, the scale shows that there is no longer any fuel in the tank and these scales begin to blink, the low fuel light turns on, and immediately the mileage countdown begins automatically on a “seemingly” empty tank. It seemed to me that this was a great idea and the scales were made in the manner of a battery on a mobile phone.
By the way, it is worth clarifying that the tank volume is 21 liters, of which the reserve, which is manually switched by a tap, is 3.8 liters. Eats 92 gasoline since it was intended for the American market.
Some wrote that the LCD display is not visible in the sun, I note that this is complete nonsense. Everything is very clear and informative. At night, the display is also clearly visible thanks to the good yellow backlight.
The gasoline consumption of the moto is quite modest despite its 4 cylinders. It eats about 5.5-6 liters on the highway at a speed of 120-140 and about 7-8 in the city.
The dynamics of a quite powerful 98-horsepower device cannot but rejoice; of course, you shouldn’t expect it to be a rocket like the Hayabusa, but it won’t let you fall flat on its face. This motorcycle has a quite comfortable cruising speed of 120-150 km/h. I tried to somehow accelerate to 180, but I already felt some discomfort.
I was choosing a motorcycle between the Kawasaki Vulcan VN1600 Nomad and the Yamaha Tour Deluxe. I preferred the latter because the Nomad has 2 shock absorbers at the back and it feels road unevenness much more acutely, the suspension is stiffer and it is afraid of road markings on the highway, skidding on the comb. The service life of the VN1600 engine before capitalization according to the manual is only 50,000 km; the Royal Star Tour Deluxe is about 200,000. The difference in power in favor of the Royal Star is 31 horsepower, although the Nomad has 1600 cubic meters and the Royal Star has 1300. Consumption of the Kawasaki Vulcan 10 -11 liters in the urban cycle, for Yamaha I described above. The seat height of the Nomad rider is much higher; I am short, about 170 cm. I could barely reach the ground, but on my own machine, I feel quite comfortable, but the second number, if not in the body, sometimes rolls around on the seat since it is wide and long, made for the American ass. Comparing with the Nomad, I can say that it does not have the wind-mud protection of the legs that the Royal Star has, so the slightest puddle will make you wear your pants. Also, at first I liked the Yamaha Venture, but after sitting on it, I realized that it was something between a Royal Star and a Honda Gold Wing
Flaws
Riding in traffic and handling on winding roads is challenging. The track is the element of this bike.
Users name few disadvantages.
- Large dimensions (shooting between rows and narrow streets is not for him).
- Weak fastening of the rear case (in order not to lose it, you need to strengthen the platform under it and the bottom of the suitcase itself).
- No heated steering wheel grips.
Many people consider a cassette player to be a disadvantage, but craftsmen make an adapter for MP3/CD or the front glove compartment.
and dignity
The model's strict design makes it an ideal choice for large-sized male bikers.
And the motorcycle has many more advantages:
- design and fit - chopper ;
- large selection of components;
- protection of motorcyclist's legs;
- music (support for “Russian” radio stations and stable reception, thanks to its own antenna);
- low center of gravity.
The red line running through all the reviews is convenience, comfort, reliability .
Comfort
This is a pleasant car to use, which is suitable for traveling not only to other cities, but even to other countries. Moreover, this bike is comfortable for two people to ride. This is due to the fact that the passenger seat is comfortable and safe. There is a comfortable backrest behind this seat. This one is also supported by a container for helmets.
The windshield is not too high, but it does the job. As well as a powerful headlight. The bike, of course, is inconvenient to handle with your hands due to its large weight and dimensions. However, with proper use, this will not have to be done often. This tourer is stable and will not fall over on its side even at low speeds. But in a traffic jam, you may sometimes have to prop it up with your foot.
