MotoGP: Suzuki GSX-RR (2020) - young forces of a 100-year-old company
Suzuki's MotoGP factory project has been relaunched and revamped, although its line-up remains unchanged, with Alex Rins and Joan Mir continuing their partnership in the 2021 World Championship. But the Suzuki GSX-RR and its colors have changed. Let's see what's new!
MOTOGONKI.RU, February 6, 2021 - The colors of Team Suzuki Ecstar have become lighter, closer to classic Suzuki - blue and white with red splashes. And no wonder: this year the Hamamatsu plant celebrates its 100th anniversary, but also its 60th anniversary of participation in motorsports.
Video: broadcast of the presentation of Team Suzuki Ecstar 2020
The first step in the history of MotoGP was made by Suzuki in 1960 in the 50 cc class. with Ernst Degner. Subsequently, the project developed and the Suzuki plant achieved worldwide recognition.
Suzuki RT67 (1967)
The design of the new Suzuki GSX-RR is based on the idea of the historical prototype Suzuki RT67, which was raced by Barry Sheen and Stuart Graham in 1967. It was a 125 cc prototype with a 123.7 cc 2-cylinder, 2-stroke engine. 35 hp With this machine, Graham became bronze medalist in the GP125 World Championship that season - this began the success story of Suzuki in Moto Grand Prix.
Suzuki GSX-RR (2020)
The prototype of the GSX-RR series was born quite recently, in 2015. Traditionally, Suzuki has cultivated the GSV-R series V4 engine in MotoGP. However, the transition from 2-stroke to 4-stroke engines hit Suzuki Racing the hardest in 2002. While in 2000 the private Suzuki team owned by Kenny Robets could fight for the championship title and then defend it quite successfully, then starting in 2003 the factory prototype was not successful for many years. Until Suzuki left MotoGP, completely rebooted the racing program and rethought the foundations of the company's success.
Historical connections: from Suzuki RT67 to 6th generation GSX-RR
And Suzuki's success in the sports and touring motorcycle sector has always been based on an icon - the GSX-R
- first, 750 cc, and then 1000 cc. And it was an in-line, 4-cylinder superbike, so successful and reliable that it won many top awards and titles on all continents, especially in the United States of America, but also in Australia, in the UK.
Evolution of Suzuki GSX-RR 2015-2020
Until December 2013, Suzuki tried to refine the GSV-R platform, but at that moment they came up with a bright idea: if the GSX-R1000 is so successful, why not make a prototype on the same base? The Suzuki GSX-RR prototype was born very quickly. It is indeed based on a platform with an inline 4-cylinder engine.
The current GSX-RR will be the 6th generation of this platform.

Suzuki
We had to wait a whole year until the Suzuki factory completed the design and released a new liter jixer.
At the Intermot 2021 exhibition, the Japanese presented the Suzuki GSX-R1000 2021. A year ago, the manufacturer teased the public with a new jixer, and now the long-awaited motorcycle was officially announced, although the presentation of the charged version of the Suzuki GSX-R1000R 2021, which we will talk about later, was a surprise. The 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is a completely new superbike. It is equipped with an inline 4-cylinder engine with VVT (variable valve timing technology). The engine produces 199 hp. and torque 117.5 Nm. The crown jewel, of course, is the 6-axis IMU electronics: 10-level traction control, engine modes, corner ABS, launch control, downshift and upshift quickshifter (the last three systems are only for the Suzuki GSXR-1000R).
The 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000 sportbike with all fluids weighs 200 kilograms, that is, the new Suzuki product is an equal competitor to the category leaders (BMW S1000RR, Kawasaki ZX-10R, and so on).
Japanese specialists have developed a mechanical valve timing system to circumvent MotoGP regulations regarding variable valve timing systems. Suzuki's VVT technology uses ball bearings that rotate with the cams and changes their orientation as rotational speed increases. At that point, the gear changes to synchronize the intake, giving a 5 percent increase in power or 10 hp. The same technology has been adapted into the 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000, and it is an elegant solution to a difficult problem that other brands are trying to solve.
It will be interesting to see how the 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000 with VVT performs in the real world, although Suzuki's progress in MotoGP is a great indicator. The bike also features Suzuki's Broad Power System technology, which boosts low-end torque (important for quick acceleration). Suspension on the 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is provided by a Showa Big Piston fork and matching shock absorber (the GSX-R1000R features a Showa Balance Free fork and a Showa Balance Free Cushion shock absorber).
The new Suzuki GSX-R1000 2021 should go on sale at the beginning of 2017, and the Suzuki GSX-R1000R 2021 should go on sale towards the end.

INTERMOT-2018: Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R (2019) - update and key characteristics
Improved and expanded versions of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R were presented at INTERMOT-2018: there is not much new, but something was added to the motorcycle at the request of the owners.
MOTOGONKI.RU, October 2, 2021 — The model presented at INTERMOT two years ago has returned, modified and improved. So far, Hamamatsu has not decided to change anything radically, but has taken the path of adding details that were probably missed for some reason.

Otherwise, this is still the same superbike presented to us in the fall of 2016 and 2021.
Key Features of Suzuki GSX-R1000(R):
Engine: 4-cylinder, in-line DOHC, 999.8 cc. with Suzuki Racing VVT (SR-VVT), Suzuki Exhaust Tuning-Alpha (SET-A) and Suzuki Top Feed Injector (S-TFI).
Additional S-TFI injectors are mounted on the air filter housing itself directly opposite the throttle valves and are activated at high speeds, complementing the standard set.
SR-VVT is a variable valve timing system developed for racing by R&D Suzuki. The system is simple and compact: 12 steel balls are integrated into the timing gears; When rotating, the balls move in the grooves under the influence of centrifugal force, due to which the timing of the intake valve slows down. The higher the crankshaft rotation speed, the higher the power output.
Suzuki GSX-R1000R (2019)
Suzuki Exhaust Tuning-Alpha (SET-A) valves are installed in each exhaust pipe to improve power delivery at low and mid-range speeds. The higher the engine speed, the more the valves open.
The intake manifold pipes have different lengths - this is called Suzuki Dual-Stage Intake (S-DSI): for example, on cylinders 1-4 they can become longer, and on cylinders 2-3 there are standard pipes of a fixed length. Given the nature of the physics of gases, the longer the path that the flow has to travel, the slower it is. Thus, short pipes help to better fill the cylinders with the fuel mixture at high speeds, and at low speeds a slightly slower filling is required - and this is where long channels come into play.
Suzuki GSX-R1000 from 2021 is equipped with an advanced 6-axis inertial platform controlled by a 32-bit ECM processor. The IMU has 3 standard axes (x, y, z), and also analyzes 3 additional parameters - roll, yaw (rotation around an axis) and pitch (deviation from the horizontal plane).

The on-board computer analyzes not only the position of the throttle, but also takes into account the position of the motorcycle in space, the position of the crankshaft and the volume of oxygen before calculating the optimal quality of the fuel mixture, and then checking whether there is an excess of power at the wheel.
The ECM regulates thrust by changing the ignition timing, as well as the volume of fuel mixture passing through the injectors.
A system introduced back in 2021—RPM Assist—helps the driver avoid stalling at low revs. It works simply: the ECM slightly opens the throttles at ultra-low speeds when the gear is engaged, if the clutch is not depressed. The system thus facilitates ultra-slow maneuvering, for example in traffic or when parking.
The Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are equipped with Brembo brakes with 320mm T-drive floating discs, designed specifically for motorsports. 4-piston radial calipers (32mm) are actuated by 19mm Nissin master cylinders.

GSX-R1000R features:
The racing version's electronics package includes Launch Control, which limits engine speed when starting from a standstill, allowing for a smoother launch and the use of all power without loss. Now you don’t need to “play” with the clutch - you can just “throw it”.
The second difference from the GSX-R1000 is the fully adjustable Showa Balance Free Front (BFF®) fork and Balance Free Rear Cushion (BFRC®) rear shock.
(The GSX-R1000 comes with a slightly simpler Showa Big Piston Front (BPF) fork and a standard Showa progressive shock.)
