Reviews of Stels Tactic Rating: 3.3 out of 5 3 reviews found

The Stealth Tactic 50 scooter did not shine with impressive technical characteristics, catchy design or other advantages even at the moment when it first went on sale. Why did he become so popular? It's simple - dealers offered it at a very low price , and this attracted a large number of thrifty buyers for whom the cost of purchase and maintenance is of paramount importance. Over the past years, tens of thousands of copies of this model have been sold, and many of them are still in use, because there are no problems with spare parts, and budget motorcycles are always relevant.

Design

Externally, the Stels Tactic 50 somehow subtly resembles all the scooters in the world at once, which is clearly visible from the photo. It is completely devoid of any recognizable features, and when creating its appearance, Chinese designers clearly did not bother. Why, they were even too lazy to copy some nice Japanese or European bike! But for this price it will do.

Sax is a gamna. Varik in the link is also a gamna.

The list in the first post (subject to compatibility) will clearly be better.

Specifications

If you dig deep into the depths of this bike and conduct a small comparative analysis, you will find that it is assembled from the same spare parts as dozens of other similar models produced in China. At the same time, all the main components are quite reliable, since they were copied many years ago from outdated Japanese models, and since then they have been produced on an industrial scale without any changes.

Engine

Take the most primitive 2-stroke engine from the last century and get the power unit installed on the Stels Tactic. Its resource is short, but it is more powerful than 4-stroke engines of comparable cubic capacity - as much as 4.9 hp. and 3.6 Nm , with peak torque already at around 4000 rpm . The engine is very torquey, so the scooter quickly picks up a maximum speed of 65-70 km/h .

Transmission

Like other similar bikes, an ordinary stepless variator . It is quite reliable, but does not operate smoothly, so when the gas is opened sharply, nothing happens for a split second, and then a jerk follows. Perhaps this feature is partly due to imperfect operation of the carburetor.

Chassis and brakes

The entire structure described above is located in the depths of a tubular steel frame , which does not differ in significant strength and resistance to high loads. But Chinese engineers were generous with a disc brake for the front wheel , installing a 220 mm disc with a single-piston caliper. The rear wheel has a conventional drum mechanism. The suspensions are rigid and short-travel, extremely budget-friendly and devoid of adjustments - a monoshock absorber with a pendulum at the rear and a telescopic fork at the front. The wheels are 12-inch, standard width for scooters, 120 mm and 130 mm front and rear, respectively.

Electronics

What kind of electronic stuffing can we talk about when we have before us a scooter that is cheap in all respects and has a production cost of several hundred dollars? A compact battery, a headlight comparable in power to a flashlight, a bundle of wires – that’s all. But the likelihood of malfunctions with electronics tends to a minimum, and if something happens, everything can be repaired easily and quickly.

Weight and dimensions

The dry weight of the scooter is only 94 kg , and the curb weight is 5 kg more, according to the manufacturer. The Stels Tactic 50 seems very light; if desired, a couple of average men could easily lift it with outstretched arms. Its compact dimensions make it not very convenient for tall drivers, and those with long legs may even have a specific problem - the steering wheel rests on their knees when turning.

Controllability

Any small scooter is very easy to steer, and Stealth Tactic 50 only confirms this rule. And how else can a bike weighing less than one hundredweight and with a wheelbase of 1275 mm be controlled? Its turning radius is comparable to that of a baby stroller, and it easily darts between cars even in dense traffic jams. All this makes the Chinese scooter an excellent choice for urban conditions.

Fuel consumption

Fuel consumption averages about 2.5 liters per 100 km, although it largely depends on driving style. This is not the smallest figure for a 50 cc moped, but the archaic two-stroke engine is not particularly economical. For models with a larger piston engine, gasoline consumption also increases to approximately 3 liters per 100 km.

Scooter price

On the secondary market, used copies are sold at prices ranging from 20 thousand rubles and above, on average sellers want about 30 thousand . Most of the mopeds offered are already equipped with tuning, and have a 70 or 100 cc piston on board instead of 50. This is convenient, considering that according to the documents, the bike is still considered a moped, for which a category M license is enough to drive. The new Stealth Tactic 50, alas, are no longer produced, but there is a 150 cc modification on sale.

Repair and tuning

Maintainability and low cost of spare parts are characteristic of almost all Chinese motorcycles. In addition, it is a good place to practice your first repair skills, which may come in handy sooner or later. It’s better to practice on something budget-friendly, and the hero of our review is perfect for this role.

Repair

Anyone can repair the Tactic 50 themselves. If you've seen the inside of at least one budget scooter, then you've seen them all, because they have minimal differences. Forget about special tools and so on, for any service and repair operations, a standard set of tools will be enough for you, the most complex of which will be a regular torque wrench with adjustable torque. And then only if you get into the depths of the engine.

Spare parts

This model, like many others, was assembled from components used by various Chinese motorcycle manufacturers. Therefore, there are no problems with spare parts, and there is no need to contact dealer stores - everything you need can be picked up from other scooters. Spare parts are cheap, and you can buy everything you need, even a new engine or a complete set of plastic. The prices will definitely please budget-conscious bikers.

Tuning

Usually, all tuning of cheap Chinese bikes comes down to minor decoration, but the popularity of the model has made its own adjustments here. Since all the components from which the Stels Tactic 50 is assembled are used on other models, they are widely used. Therefore, a lot of things are suitable for this scooter, and many owners change the piston by installing a larger-volume CPG. You can even buy such tuning on Aliexpress, and many dealers at one time sold bikes with a new piston, although according to the documents they remained 50 cc.

Scooter modifications

Officially, Stealth Tactic 50 was produced in the same form throughout all years of production, and the only difference was the color. In practice, many dealers independently installed different tunings, after which they slightly raised the price. The most popular was the installation of a piston group of increased volume, which gave an increase in power, and according to papers the moped remained 50 cc.

Advantages and disadvantages

Comparing the Stels Tactic 50 with other similar scooters, it is difficult to identify any distinct strengths or weaknesses. But we’ll still try, although this is just another extremely budget moped, the whole purpose of which is to carry its owner and, if possible, not cause him problems.

Advantages

  • A small mass , not reaching even a hundred kilograms.
  • Very low price of both the scooter itself and all spare parts for it.
  • Abundance of available tuning.
  • Economical and low maintenance costs.
  • Simplicity and maintainability.

Flaws

  • Low service life of a two-stroke engine.
  • Small gas tank volume .
  • Low quality plastic , which can crack not only from a fall, but also from vibrations or driving on uneven roads.

Owner reviews

Actually a normal moped, considering the price, but there are a lot of minor problems with quality. Plastic can be broken with your hands, iron is also not a fountain, all the brackets clearly use some kind of incomprehensible silumin alloy, clearly not designed for heavy loads. The frame itself is also fragile, I know a man whose frame simply cracked when he was driving along a dirt road in the village with a heavy passenger. I didn’t have this, but the front wing mounts fell off twice over the summer until they were welded tightly. The CVT is still a bit dull, but you get used to it quickly. Andrey, Mednogorsk.

I bought the scooter new in 2014, already with a 70 cc piston engine, like a little more vigorous. The guys never found fault, the piston itself is not visible, it is hidden under the plastic, although there are different stamps with the engine number on it. The maximum speed at 70cc is about 85 mph without a headwind, this is according to the speedometer, but it’s probably lying on the higher side. My consumption is about 2.5 liters per hundred, sometimes it was 3 liters. The scooter has not yet been sold, it sits in the village, and is used for its intended purpose from time to time. I don’t see any point in selling it for pennies, that’s why I left it. It always starts up after winter without any problems if the battery is charged and fresh gasoline is poured into the tank. Nikolay, Moscow.

I owned this model for two years and had mixed impressions. On the one hand, this is a really normal scooter for the price of a bicycle, what else do you need? On the other hand, constant minor breakdowns simply freeze out, then the candles die one after another for an unknown reason, then the mirror mount falls off for no reason, or something else. And I recommend pouring only synthetics into the engine, then the engine will live longer than 3-5 thousand km. It will bend quickly on mineral water, it has already been tested. Ivan, Vologda.

18.07.2011
I have been friends with motorcycle technology for a long time. I first sat on a motorcycle at the age of 11 and rode myself. Nobody really taught me how to ride, since my father himself didn’t know how to ride a motorcycle, so you could say we learned everything together. My first motorcycle was “Minsk” 125 cc. 1993. Then I rode the Voskhod 3-M 175 cc, then for a short time there was the Owl 175 cc, and the last of “ours” was the fresh IZH-Planet 5. That’s all of ours. Then I was taken to the “Japanese”, I rode a “Honda VT250”, 1993. A very comfortable and light motorcycle, with a “sport bike” design, but of course it had little sportiness, even though the engine produced a decent 51 hp, for its weight I would say it was even too much. Then there was a break, 18 years old, and I’ve already driven cars. Somehow I moved away from “motorcycles”. But then 2007 “hit”, as I remember now, I had a “wedge”, I was inspired to buy a scooter, it had to be a new one and the main criterion was its dimensions, that is, I needed a fairly large scooter . Although my height is not a giant (182 cm), but after riding the Honda Dio, I realized that riding on a chair with wheels is not an option. Dangerous. So I was looking for one with a normal wheelbase, normal weight and dimensions. I gave preference to 50 cc models. I went shopping, looked at a bunch of “substandard Chinese” ones from the “semi-finished product” category, and finish the rest yourself with a file and a hammer, as they say. The companies were also unclear, I don’t even remember what. One day I found information on the Internet that supposedly a bicycle factory had opened in Kubinka near Moscow, making “Stels” bicycles and motorcycle equipment. Well, I decided to “smoke” the forums, so what? I really liked the “Tactic” model, so I settled on it. At a price in 2007, it ranged from 31,000 to 36,000 in different places. I decided to go to the direct branch, to Lyubertsy near Moscow to get it. Before that I called and ordered assembly (they come disassembled from the factory), I said I’ll arrive in an hour and a half, assemble the red one for me. They say okay, let's start. We get into the Blazer truck, drive there, drive up to the store, some woodpecker is already standing there and trying my scooter on the go. I go up to the seller and say, what the...?! And he, with that look of a “half-asleep swan,” says: “Oh, I thought he was you,” I say, well done, observant, only he is not me. In short, the scooter was “bought” from me... I’m ordering the assembly of a second one.... I waited another two hours... The smoke-filled “hacha-collector” was actively wielding the key and constantly smiling. And I waited and “scorched” him so that I collected everything correctly and did not forget anything. I was especially interested in the brakes, steering column and wheel mounting. After all, I still have to drive it to Yugo-Zapadnaya in Moscow, and from Lyubertsy it’s a hell of a lot of work. In short, after 2 hours they assembled it, and here it is. I didn’t really try to look at him; I had already spent half a day staring at him before. I just checked whether everything worked electrically, listened to how the engine worked, checked the brakes and maneuvering. It seems normal. In short, I drove my “horse” home. I tell my dad, cover my ass, I’m scared to drive, it seems to me that everyone is trying to run me over! I won’t tell you how I drove these kilometers, having passed half of the Moscow Ring Road. I experienced different emotions and used swear words periodically when I approached the overpass interchanges on the Moscow Ring Road. There, on a tiny moped, everyone is trying to squeeze you, and some stupidly don’t see you at all. Thanks again to my dad and his jeep. I came home to the garage in this damn thing for suicide, already doubting its safety and the safety of driving it in Moscow in principle. Well, oh well, no worries. I liked it while driving, the engine good luck, confident in modes up to 50 km/h. Then unpleasant vibrations appear. I accelerated it to a maximum of 75 km/h, only later, after running it in. The running-in, as far as I remember now, was, in my opinion, either 700 km or 1000 km. This was enough for me until 2010, that is, I drove a total of 1000 kilometers, and that was in the first year, then it stood for a very long time. There was no time and nowhere to travel. During this time, the battery “died.” In 2010, I got one of these in the garage, and I thought I’d ride there so that I wouldn’t take it to the dacha. As a result, I brought the trailer and the car, loaded it and went to the country. On the way, I stopped at a motorcycle service, already there, almost near the dacha, I told the guy, do everything for me, the scooter has been standing for a long time, check everything and fill in what is needed. As a result, they changed the spark plug, adjusted the carburetor and changed the oil in the variator. Before that, something was filled in there that was very reminiscent of solid oil or lithol, in short, the mechanic himself said what kind of jelly it was, here you need to fill it with normal oil. When I arrived at the dacha, I decided to check everything completely, removed all the plastic up to the frame , and tightened absolutely all the bolts, fastenings, checked all the wires. I put it back together and “voila” as they say. Now I drive it every weekend, I drove it through the summer before this. I don’t know what they say about Chinese scooters in general, but they have never given me any problems (they just say that they last a little, and they tell terrible stories about how their frame broke in half and in general the “kick-ass” is solid) ). It always starts, nothing falls off, the frame doesn’t break in half and the fork doesn’t pop into your head, it doesn’t seem to have lost the wheels either. I never fell on it, didn’t even scratch it, and didn’t put 3 people on it either. I just follow the technical regulations and put my hands on the equipment a little. I like the package. In 2007, together with the case, it cost me 33,500 rubles. It has an electronic dashboard, alarm system, auto start, hydraulic disc brakes, everything is done “in an adult way” in principle. I like it. The engine, as already mentioned, is 50 cc, as they say – 5.5 hp. There is nothing special about it that differs from others of similar volume. Spins up to 10,000 rpm/min. In fact, this didn’t surprise me a little, by the way. When you’re driving alone, it pulls well, but if you’re driving alone, it’s already starting to get “moody”; once it just overheated and didn’t want to go at all. But I think it’s violence for two guys to ride on a fifty-kopeck piece, especially since I’m not that “inchy” in weight. I advise you to clean the air filter more often, the place there is not very good, it is very dusty. And it’s also very, very inconvenient to unscrew/screw in the spark plug, you can’t figure it out. The moped regularly transports my butt and I’m not biased towards it, it has long ago paid for itself in my eyes. I evaluate it fairly, and I evaluate my own copy, but honestly, I don’t know how it is for others. The only critical disadvantage I can mention is the tires. Very dangerous rubber, very slippery and not good at all. Once my front wheel skidded on the asphalt while turning, it just started to slide off the road as if on ice, and the asphalt was dry, but not much with sand, the kind that accumulates at the entrances from the highway to a gas station. In short, I’ll sum it up. I can recommend him! Optimal in terms of price/quality. And there are a lot of scooters now! Guys, don’t be afraid to choose, don’t be afraid to ride, just be careful there, I came to the conclusion that a scooter is much more dangerous than a motorcycle. That’s why I didn’t drive it around the city, I have one life, and my health is also not rubber. As for a scooter, I can’t say anything bad about it. It drives, brakes, starts, beeps, winks with headlights, doesn’t break down…. What else do you need? Good luck to everyone on the roads.

  • Honling Priboy 50 . An extremely budget scooter with forced engine cooling costs only about 30 thousand.
  • Racer Meteor 50 . A budget bike, economical and very light - weighs less than 80 kg.

FAQ

  • Everyone says that two-stroke engines have low engine life. Approximately what? On average, according to owner reviews, for this model it exceeds 10,000 km. Replacing the piston with a new one is inexpensive.
  • Do you need to fill it with gasoline already mixed with oil, like in a Soviet motorcycle? No, the oil is poured into a separate tank, from where it gradually enters the combustible mixture in the required quantities.
  • I'm going to change the CPG to a new one, I want to plug it into 100 cc, will I need to run it in again? Yes, but not as hard as at first, since the engine has been broken in for a long time. But for the first 500-700 km it is better to drive at a moderate speed, without high revs, and after the break-in is completed, you need to change the oil again.

Conclusion

Not all bikes are destined to be a source of pride for the owner. Some of them just need to quietly and unassumingly do their job without attracting the attention of passersby, and Stealth Tactic 50 falls into this category. Cheap, tenacious and unremarkable, it once became very popular precisely because of its low price. In addition, the 50 cc workhorse can be easily tuned , becoming noticeably more energetic, and all these joys cost very modest money. Compared to numerous competitors, this model does not stand out as anything special, but it is worth the money. If you need an extremely budget option for everyday needs, pay attention to it. Where is it cheaper?

Review of the STELS Vortex 50 scooter

When talking about Chinese scooters, you inevitably remember the first devices from the Middle Kingdom, which were not at all distinguished by their quality. But that time is in the past. A huge technical leap in scooter development and collaboration with Japanese and European giants is bearing fruit. Of course, China has not yet been able to achieve the same quality of execution of individual parts and the scooter as a whole, but there is still a long way to go. Each product has its own price, which directly depends on many factors. Chinese scooters have noticeably increased in price, but their quality has also increased significantly. One of the representatives of the modern Chinese motorcycle industry is the STELS Vortex 50 .
Every line of this scooter speaks of a desire for speed, and its daring and swift appearance is very reminiscent of European technology. However, there is no sports in this device and cannot be in principle - it’s not the right segment.

STELS Vortex 50 is equipped with a two-stroke QJ1E40QMB-4 . This is an air-cooled engine with a volume of 49.8 cubic centimeters, capable of producing 5 hp. power at 5500 crankshaft rpm. Maximum torque of 3.5 Nm. is achieved already at 3400 rpm.

A fully fueled STELS Vortex 50 weighs 96 kg. According to the passport, it is a two-seater, and the weight of two people, according to the manufacturer, should not exceed 165 kg. These tolerable characteristics of the maximum permissible weight indicate a fairly high-quality power frame of the scooter. By the way, the frame here is completely tubular, connected by welding.

Scooter dimensions (length, width, height) - 1830mm, 690mm, 1145mm. The scooter is identical in size to its European counterparts, but is slightly larger than the average Japanese scooter.

The engine is familiar, carburetor, with a compression ratio of 7.2. There should be no problems in repairs; the usual layout of the main components and parts is familiar to almost all mechanics in repair shops.

The scooter runs relatively quietly, which is undoubtedly due to the muffler. Depending on the modification of the scooter, the muffler is equipped with one or two exhaust gas neutralizers. It’s nice, because this is a clear look at the European market, where control of the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere is quite strict.

The STELS Vortex 50 engine uses popular NGK spark plugs: CR7HSA, BR7ES; Bosch: WR3AC; Champion: RL78C. Finding, if necessary, a replacement for such candles will not be difficult.

The suspension is stiff enough for a single scooter rider, but once a passenger is taken on board, the hydraulic system shows itself in all its glory. It is not known how long it will be able to please the scooter owner with its relative smoothness, but the start is extremely positive. The front uses a telescopic fork with two spring-hydraulic shock absorbers. Oil is used as a hydraulic element. The rear suspension is made according to the pendulum principle, where only one spring-hydraulic shock absorber of a non-separable type is used, unlike the front ones, where maintenance and disassembly are allowed.

Twelve-inch rollers are no different from their Chinese counterparts; the quality of the rubber is average. A tire of size 120/70-12 is installed at the front, and 130/70-12 at the rear.

The braking system is also no different from other analogues from the Middle Kingdom. There is a single-piston hydraulic disc brake at the front, and a good old drum at the rear. For an average car with a small engine capacity, this arrangement is most acceptable and there is no point in increasing the final cost of the device by using various combined systems or resorting to a rear disc brake.

The average cost of the STELS Vortex 50 is $1,100. The price is approximately the same in all representative offices throughout the country and differs slightly. Buying STELS Vortex 50 , if desired, will not be difficult for anyone. An expanded dealer network allows you to deliver the device even to remote corners of the country. The package includes mirrors, a case, a case, and an alarm. Frankly speaking, the case offered in the package will appeal only to undemanding users, and the service life of such a case will clearly disappoint the owner.
