Appearance
The bike looks very typical of its era: many stripes that combine with each other in aggressive and pretentious combinations. The colors are not distributed evenly, but form a pattern that is noticeable from afar. There is not one headlight in front, but two, which for many immediately says: the Honda CBR 250 RR is from the last century.
The shape of the saddle is characteristic. It is smooth, horizontal, and there is a sharp rise in front and behind. To some extent, this insures the rider during sudden braking and acceleration. Easier to stay in the saddle. As for the aesthetics of such a decision, for its time the angularity of sportbikes was just the peak of style (in moderation).
I want to buy a Honda CBR 250 motorcycle, how much does it cost?
Today, a new 2011 model can be purchased for $7,000-7,500. To do this, you need to find the dealer closest to you and place an order. A used 1988 Honda CBR 250 will cost approximately 2-2.5 thousand dollars, it all depends on the condition and mileage of the motorcycle.
Even though Honda has released the new model Honda CBR 250 R, which is currently one of the most popular motorcycles in the 250cc category, the old models (1986-1996) are still in demand among motorcyclists.
By purchasing this motorcycle, you get a reliable “iron horse” that will not let you down at a crucial moment, and will also bring a lot of emotions and pleasure from movement.
Comfort
The saddle, although narrow, is comfortable. Due to the fact that this car is the youngest in the line, it is unlikely to impress connoisseurs of the class. However, it is not suitable for every beginner. This sportbike has peppy dynamics. When the bike reaches 12,000 rpm, it reveals a new side of itself.
The car begins to accelerate more actively, and for a newcomer to the class this can become a problem. The steering wheel has a rather large turning radius and is tight. This gives the bike its characteristic sporty handling. This is not to say that the fork copes well with uneven terrain. However, this does not distinguish the motorcycle from its classmates for the worse. On the contrary, he, perhaps, even maintains a good level in this regard.
Years of manufacture and characteristics
The Honda XR 250 enduro was produced in Japan from 1995 to 2007.
Main advantages: easy handling, optimal weight - 119 kg, electric start, excellent low-end traction, rigid frame and suspension, high ground clearance and a compact engine due to a dry sump system with an oil tank in the frame. Due to this design, the oil is effectively cooled and does not overheat.
All this gave the motorcycle amazing cross-country ability and survivability.
Due to the short wheelbase and small fork angle, the Honda XP 250 steers well, which is valuable for enduro riding. Unlike competitors, this motorcycle has a slightly stiffer suspension, and the rear shock absorber is easy to customize with adjustments for compression and rebound.
On the Honda XR 250, speeds are switched clearly, regardless of mileage, the 6-speed gearbox always works perfectly, so the motorcycle can be compared to a Kalashnikov assault rifle. It should be noted that a good transmission is a distinctive feature of all Honda motorcycles.
Dimensions and weight
The bike is quite light. However, it only seems this way if the fuel hasn’t run out and you don’t have to drive the car manually for a couple of kilometers. The ground clearance is small, but this will not be a problem if the area of driving or traveling has more or less high-quality country roads. A very small hole will not damage the motorcycle.
Dimensions:
- tank – 13 l;
- ground clearance - 130 mm;
- curb weight – 158 kg;
- height – 1080 mm;
- width – 675 mm;
- length – 1975 mm;
- seat height – 1080 mm.
Although the length of the model is small, as well as the height and width, the height of the saddle is quite large. And it is unlikely that a person who is short in stature will have a comfortable feeling from riding such a bike. But such a seat height is normal not only for a sportbike, but also for a cross-country motorcycle, and even for some sports-style road motorcycles.
Power point
Its parameters are as follows:
- engine type - four-stroke, gasoline;
- working volume - 249 cubic cm;
- number of cylinders - 4;
- cylinder diameter, mm - 48.5;
- number of valves - 4 per cylinder;
- piston stroke - 33.8 mm;
- compression - 11.5;
- food - four VP-20 carburetors;
- cooling - water;
- starting - electric starter;
- ignition - electronic;
- maximum power - 40 hp. With. at 15,000 rpm;
- torque - at 11,500 rpm - 23.5 Nm;
- transmission - six-speed gearbox;
- clutch - multi-disc in oil bath;
- drive transmission to the rear wheel is a chain.
Specifications
According to its parameters, this is a fairly fast car, which is not suitable for every beginner. The maximum speed here is significant, as is the acceleration to 100. However, this is only when compared with motorcycles in general. For sports these are small indicators. Due to the size and capabilities of the engine, fuel consumption is low.
Rear brakes | one disc, 220 mm |
Front brakes | two discs, 275 mm |
Rear suspension | pendulum, 105 mm |
Front suspension | telescopic fork, 120 mm |
Overclocking | in 5 s to 100 km/h |
Speed limit | 185 km/h |
Torque at the limit | 23 Nm |
Power to the limit | 40 hp |
Steps in a box | six |
Drive type | chain |
Consumption | 3.75 l per 100 km |
The suspension is a bit harsh, but that's normal. Torque and power are weak for sports, but just right for a beginner. And for some, it may be even better to start with weaker models. The technical characteristics are quite decent, considering how much such a copy costs. For a used one they are asking about 90 thousand Russian rubles, but you can’t get a new one these days.
Model history
Over the entire production period, the Honda CBR250RR model had several generations:
1986 - Frame number starts at MC14. This year's models featured dual disc brakes at the front, a single headlight, and a half-fairing.
1987 - Frame number starts at MC17. The Honda CBR 250 RR gets a full fairing.
1988 - Frame number starts at MC19. The motorcycle gets a single larger diameter brake disc at the front (instead of two) and a dual headlamp.
1989 - Frame number starts at MC19. This year's models have only one difference from previous ones - a speed limiter of 185 km/h.
1990-1991 — frame number starts with MC22. The motorcycle is undergoing a major update. The model gets a new, stiffer aluminum frame, dual front disc brakes (276 mm), a new swingarm, aluminum wheels and new carburetor settings. The dry weight of the motorcycle is 142 kg.
1992-1993 — frame number starts with MC22. Motorcycles of these years are practically no different from the models of the previous year, only the colors of the motorcycles change.
1994-1996 — frame number starts with MC22. The only difference between the motorcycles of these years and previous ones is that they are “strangled” to 40 hp. (instead of 45 hp) engine. These changes affected all 250 cc motorcycles in Japan and were due to changes in current legislation. The engine was “stifled” due to changes in the cylinder head and ignition system.
What do the owners say?
Reviews often mention that it is difficult to get spare parts for the car. And this greatly complicates maintenance. This state of affairs is due to the fact that the bike has not been produced for a long time, and there are a lot of other, no less interesting motorcycles on the market.
But this technique pleases those who prefer old sportbikes. And, according to the description of such owners, they are ready to put up with the difficulties of operation, although for different reasons. Some are nostalgic, experiencing the same sensations, while others want to touch the technology of the last century.
IMPORTANT! It is not easy to evaluate the dynamics of this motorcycle from a video, especially when compared with more modern and powerful models. However, owners warn that this is not the easiest sportbike for a beginner. Even if a person has, in principle, been handling motorcycles for a long time, but not sports-class models, it may be better to start with something simpler.
One review noted that the car is suitable for driving by two. There is some truth in this, but still, sports motorcycles, in principle, are not the best solution for those who want to ride with a passenger. If this is the initial task, you should pay attention to the sports-tourist class.
The CBR 250 RR is a good car for its time. Many people will still be satisfied with this technique. The motorcycle looks good both in the photo and in real life. And the dynamics are decent. But the problem of spare parts is acute, which is worth remembering, and if you really want such a model, it is important to choose a bike that is not too worn out and operate it with extreme caution.
New motorcycle Honda CBR 250 R
The new Honda CBR 250 R met all the expectations of motorcyclists. This motorcycle has been designed using the latest technology, including a new fuel injection system.
The engine of the CBR 250 R motorcycle, unlike its predecessor (without the letter R), is low-speed and has only one cylinder, which is capable of spinning the crankshaft up to 10.5 thousand revolutions per minute.
The light weight of the motorcycle, the smoothly functioning 6-speed gearbox, and stability at high speed make this motorcycle one of the best in the line of 250 cc motorcycles .
This motorcycle is assembled in Thailand, and can be found on sale all over the world.
The new 2011 model is a reliable, stylish, and most importantly affordable motorcycle, made in a modern style.
For lovers of Honda , we advise you to take a look at the younger model (125 cubic centimeters) in the CBR family called the Honda CBR 125, which strives to keep up with its older brothers.
